View Full Version : Jai Sharma ( Chris Bisson )
Emmerdale businessman Jai Sharma must face the reality of his double life next week as Rachel Breckle goes into premature labour.
Jai is horrified when Rachel (Gemma Oaten) suddenly starts experiencing contractions and has to be rushed to hospital, but he knows that he can't get involved in the situation without wife Charity (Emma Atkins) discovering his secret.
Feeling helpless as his baby may not pull through, will Jai be able to cope with the mess he finds himself in?
Here, Chris Bisson - who plays Jai - reveals his take on next week's big episodes.
How is Jai feeling about Rachel's pregnancy at the moment?
"It's been very, very difficult and stressful trying to keep the truth about Rachel's pregnancy under wraps. Obviously Jai has put himself in an extremely difficult position and it's now starting to unravel for him."
What happens when Rachel goes into premature labour?
"Jai is very much under pressure throughout this whole period and he's facing the consequences of leading a double life. He's very worried about Rachel, but he's also very worried about his relationship with his wife Charity!
"It kicks off on the day of the auditions for the nativity play. Jai arrives to watch Noah and when he opens the door to the church, Rachel and Charity are in the middle of a blazing row about the play. At the end of that, Rachel starts to feel twinges and goes into labour very prematurely.
"Charity doesn't help matters because she says, 'This is so early that it's dangerous'. So Jai immediately starts panicking and it's very traumatic for him. Rachel breaks down, an ambulance comes and she gets taken away in it."

Does Jai find a way to be there for Rachel?
"Well, obviously he can't go with her, so Ruby goes with her and Sam is left hanging around. Jai then thinks on his feet and says that he'll give Sam a lift, which means that he can get away from Charity and manage to get himself to the hospital.
"Because Jai and Sam explain that they're not relatives, the hospital refuses to give them any information. Obviously Jai can't blow his cover, so he can't get any information whatsoever from the hospital."
Is it difficult for Jai to hide his panic and not arouse suspicion?
"Jai manages to hide his panic quite well at first, but he finds it more difficult when he's at the hospital with Sam. Sam is trying to send Jai home because he doesn't really need to be there anymore, but Jai obviously doesn't want to go. At the same time, though, he doesn't want to hang around too much in case he makes people suspicious.
"The situation runs on for a few episodes, because Jai is constantly badgering people for information on Rachel and the baby. He calls Dan into the office at the factory and also tries to get hold of Ali. Basically, he wants to get hold of anyone who could give him some news. But Rishi keeps warning him that he's at risk of blowing his cover."
How does Jai react when he finds out that the baby has arrived?
"When he finds out, he has mixed emotions. He's elated that the baby has been delivered safely, but he knows that the situation is still critical and he's extremely frustrated that he can't be there.
"Later, there's a point where Rishi comes into the factory and reveals that Rachel's baby is a little boy. That's the first that Jai has heard of it. So all the way through it's second-hand information for him, because he can't be at the hospital and he can't see the baby."
Did you feel sorry for Jai when filming the scenes?
"Well, it's a very, very difficult position, because Rachel isn't answering her phone and Rishi is telling him to stay away. In some ways, you feel for him because he can't see his son and doesn't know whether the baby is going to survive or not.
"But on the other hand, it was always going to be this way. Jai has tried to play this game and keep it all a secret, so this is the price that he has to pay for that. He's been incredibly selfish because he wants to keep his marriage with Charity, but he also wants to keep the baby. Those two scenarios are really incompatible!"
Does there come a point where Charity realises that Jai is behaving strangely?
"Yes, Jai needs a cover story in the end, because he's absolutely going crazy and Charity knows that something is wrong. Charity thinks that he might be having an affair, so eventually Rishi has to intervene and tells her that Jai is still upset about her not wanting to have a baby.
"Charity can't take it anymore - she can't live with the pressure of Jai wanting a baby. She makes it clear that she's never, ever going to have a child for him. In some ways, this makes Jai realise why he wanted Rachel to keep his baby in the first place. If it was left to Charity, he'd never have a son. But obviously his behaviour is very deceitful."
Does Charity believe Rishi's cover story?
"I think she does believe the cover-up, because they've argued about this so many times before. In an ideal world, Jai wouldn't have ended up in a marriage without having discussed whether they were going to have a kid in the future. But it's a soap and that's not how things work out!
"In the end, it's one lie after another and each one compounds the last. Personally, I have no idea how Jai could possibly live through something like this! The pressure he's under is absolutely unbelievable and unbearable."
Jai finally gets a chance to meet his baby in the end, doesn't he?
"He does, as Rachel finally responds to him. But she says that this is the first and last time Jai is ever going to see baby Archie, which completely breaks his heart. The one thing that Jai wanted was a child, and now he's got one, he can't have it. He didn't see that one coming!"
What will happen next to Jai?
"He'll probably go on a downward spiral. Jai is absolutely at his wits' end. It's chaos and he's in absolute turmoil. He's being horrible to everybody because he can't see his son.
"Jai does think about coming clean. He tries and fails, and there's a few times where he's about to tell Charity. But for one reason or another, it doesn't happen!"
Emmerdale businessman Jai Sharma makes a temporary exit from the village next week as the pressure of his baby secret becomes too much to bear.
Jai reaches breaking point in the coming days as Rachel Breckle (Gemma Oaten) leaves him out in the cold when she finally brings young Archie home from the hospital.
With Sam Dingle (James Hooton) seemingly becoming a father figure in his place, Jai cannot cope any longer. Needing space, he decides to head off on an extended business trip to France - but does this mean the end of his marriage to Charity?
Here, Chris Bisson - who plays Jai - chats about the build-up to his character's two-month break from the show.
How would you describe the current situation between Jai and Charity?
"Things have become very difficult for Jai with baby Archie soon coming back to the village. On top of that, his relationship with Rachel is permanently difficult because of the big secret they're hiding! Charity is picking up on his tetchiness and his uncharacteristic behaviour, so he's in a really bad place and he's not the Jai that we know."
Jai must be relieved when he hears that his son can finally come home from hospital, though…
"Jai had planned for his son to come home and he bought the house for Archie and Rachel in the village for that. However, Rachel doesn't communicate with Jai at all, so all of the information he gets is second hand.
"Jai only finds out that Archie is coming home because Ali and Ruby come to ask him for the keys to Rachel's house. That's the first he's heard of it. He's not in charge of the situation and there isn't any communication from the mother at all."
Does Jai worry about how Rachel might cope with motherhood?
"I think he naturally does have reservations. These are the things that Jai didn't think about when he asked Rachel to keep the baby! Rachel is the village chav, so she wouldn't be his first choice for the mother of his child! It's a problem.
"Rachel's lack of experience shows through in some ways, and Jai is also a lot older than her so they're communicating on a very different level."
How does Archie being brought into the village affect life for Jai?
"It's a very difficult time for Jai. He doesn't really know what's going on and because Rachel won't communicate with him, it makes things even more tricky. Jai and Rachel only ever come together at points of friction. There's never anything nice about that relationship, because Jai is trying to force his way in and Rachel is trying to push him out.
"Jai has never even been able to hold his baby, and it's driving him insane. When Archie does come home, Jai notices that Sam is stepping in, he's looking like the father and holding the baby. It's driving Jai crazy."
What happens next?
"The image of Rachel, Sam and Archie as a family is killing Jai. Sam spends a night at Rachel's helping her look after Archie and although it's innocent, Jai can tell that it's pushing in another direction. That's where Jai would like to be - looking after his baby.
"Things then get even worse when Jai is at The Woolpack and we see Rachel and Sam bring Archie inside. This is a big problem for Jai, because the baby was born prematurely just a few weeks ago. Archie still isn't even full-term, and Rachel is bringing him into a pub.
"Jai confronts Rachel about this, but she's very resistant and adamant that she's doing nothing wrong, although clearly a well-advised parent wouldn't take a 36-week old baby into a pub! It drives Jai mad and it hits home that he has absolutely no control over this child."
Why does Jai and Rachel's argument become so public at The Woolpack?
"Rachel is quite resolute and tells Jai not to give her any grief about this. He turns round biting his tongue but then he bumps into Sam, who spills a couple of pints on him.
"Jai just snaps and lets rip. He calls Sam all the names under the sun and Rachel ends up defending Sam by slapping Jai, which Charity witnesses. The whole pub comes to a standstill!"
Does Charity get suspicious?
"It's a strange one, really. Charity thinks Jai is making a scene because she still won't give him what he wants - a child of their own. But it just reaffirms to Jai that he can't stick around in the village anymore. He can't handle the lies, the deception and the fact that his baby is kind of being mistreated. He has no control over that, so he's fighting a losing battle."
How far can Jai realistically go in his arguments with Rachel, given that she could cause a lot of trouble for him?
"Rachel always has the upper hand. She has the baby which is what Jai desperately wants, and she also keeps threatening to tell the secret. Why she doesn't tell the truth is a judgement for the audience to make at this stage, because she may threaten it, but actually going through with it would have pretty serious consequences for her and the baby!
"If Rachel told the truth, she wouldn't have an easy ride from Charity. The house and the maintenance and all of those things she's enjoying would probably be in doubt. She may well get them back, but in the short-term, it would be a big risk. But we haven't really seen what the big risks are on Rachel's part."
Why does Jai decide to leave for the extended business trip to France?
"He's got a baby that he can't see, he has surrounded himself with layer upon layer of lies, and he is constantly dodging bullets. He's in a terrible place and he can't handle it.
"The audience will probably see that the situation is of his own making. Part of me does feel for him because he's in such a tight spot, but then part of me thinks he's got what he's deserved. I think the story team here have managed to weave the story, make it complicated and muddy the water significantly.
"It's not clear who's right and who's wrong. I think some people will sympathise with the fact that Jai's desire to have a baby has put him in a terrible spot. He should have been honest and told the truth, but it's a soap and that wouldn't be any fun!"
Charity warns that she won't wait for Jai while he's away. Isn't he tempted to just tell her the truth as their marriage is in trouble anyway?
"Their relationship is certainly hanging by a thread. Why he's holding onto it, I don't know - maybe because he loves his wife and he loves Noah.
"Jai has always been the nice guy, and he still is that person underneath. I've had to work out a reason why, and I think Jai believes he's protecting people in some ways. It'd be much easier if he just came clean, but it's a ticking timebomb. The audience wouldn't want Jai to come clean just yet!"
Is your on-screen break connected with the recent arrival of your baby son Harry in real life?
"Yes, this is why Jai has hit rock bottom, because he needs to leave the show for a while! I'll be back filming in February and I'll be back on screen at the end of March. You've got a two-month break from me!"
Emmerdale's troubled businessman Jai Sharma will soon make a decision that might come back to haunt him, abandoning plans to tell wife Charity the truth about his baby son Archie.
Jai considers coming clean with Charity (Emma Atkins) after she confesses to her one-night stand with Declan Macey, hoping one betrayal will cancel out another.
However, when Jai shares his intentions with Archie's mother Rachel Breckle (Gemma Oaten), she convinces him to carry on keeping quiet about their secret - fearing that it could break up her own relationship with Sam Dingle.
Here, Chris Bisson - who plays Jai - chats about his character's choice.
What happens when Jai tells Rachel about his plan to tell Charity the truth??
"Well, Jai goes round to see Rachel and says, 'Look - you've got what you've always wanted. No more dirty secrets, it's all going to be out in the open'. He promises that they can both face the consequences.
"But Rachel panics! She's spent the last six months really turning the screw on Jai, and we've never really seen what Rachel gets out of the arrangement, but now it becomes clear. Obviously she's got the house and she has the financial support, but also she now has something to lose because she's in a relationship with Sam.
"It's new pressure on Jai, because now Rachel doesn't want him to tell Charity either. She knows that it's a risk because she doesn't know how Sam would react, especially after she's been deceiving him over this. So we see Rachel squealing a little bit!"
How are things between Jai and Declan at this point?
"Jai has decided that he's going to get on with his marriage and try to get over the Charity/Declan thing, but he's still very angry with Declan! He really gets himself worked up into a bit of a state about this.
"Jai heads round to Declan's house to have it out with him. Declan's horrified, because Jai's saying things out loud that Katie shouldn't be hearing! Fortunately for him, it turns out that Katie's not actually in earshot."
Does Jai want to tell Katie the truth about Declan and Charity?
"Well, he's leaving it open to chance because he's saying things loud enough for her to hear if she happened to be in earshot. He's actively gone round to Home Farm to look for Katie and tell her. Then there's a bit of a scuffle! Jai tries to go and tell Katie what Declan has done, but Declan stops him and Jai throws one punch.
"It doesn't turn into a full-on fight, because Declan takes the punch - he knows that he shouldn't have slept with Jai's wife! Then in walks Katie, and it's a question of whether Jai will go through with telling her now that they're both in the same room…"
Jai later hears that Sam will be moving in with Rachel. Is he unhappy about that?
"To be honest with you, Jai has come to terms with the fact that Rachel's going to have a relationship and someone's going to move in at some point. It just happens to be Sam, and there is some bad blood there because Jai had a stand-off with him just before leaving for France.
"It still narks Jai slightly, because he's still keeping quiet about Archie. Sam is telling Jai that he looked after Archie when he had colic and is talking like he's a big expert, and that upsets Jai. But it's just a consequence of the secret!"
Does Sam realise anything is amiss?
"There's one point where Sam comes in at the end of another Jai and Rachel stand-off. He doesn't hear the conversation, but when they cover for what they've been talking about, he gleans that it's a question of rent. Sam later comes round to offer to pay some rent, and he brings Archie with him! Jai doesn't want to take any money from him, especially if the consequence is him being pushed out even further by Rachel.
"When it comes down to it, this storyline is still a love story between a man and a boy. Archie is the child Jai has always wanted, so Jai's constant motivation is to try and keep Archie close. Obviously the selfish part of that is that he wants to keep his marriage too."
For that reason, Jai carries on keeping quiet about Archie…
"He does, but this is the opportunity where he really should have told Charity. He hasn't done that, so things are only going to get worse!"
Jai also has another idea - Rachel should start cleaning for him again and bring Archie with her, allowing them to spend time together!
"It's quite a good idea, because Charity's never going to turn down a cleaner! She's certainly not suspicious about it.
"In terms of Jai and Rachel, he's pressing for the things that he wants, and she's pressing for the things that she wants. He just wants to see the baby, and the bottom line is that Rachel will always have the upper hand because she has control of Archie. She'll be able to manipulate him in any way she wants."
Rachel does have another demand for Jai…
"Yes, on this occasion, she forces Jai to give Ali the supervisor's job at the factory, against everyone else's wishes. Ali doesn't even apply for the job, Jai just offer her an interview and gives her the position. It's a surprise for everybody, but nobody knows the reason why. There's also a bit of a rift between Nikhil and Jai over this."
Can Jai juggle all of his commitments by being a good father to Archie and a good husband to Charity?
"I think Jai has the potential to do that, but only if he comes clean. I don't see how it will ever be possible for Jai to maintain any sort of relationship with Archie with Charity in the dark.
"Jai really has to make a decision on what to do, and I think ultimately he would have to come down on the side of the child and tell Charity the truth. He's clearly never going to give up his child - there's more chance that he'll give up his wife!"
How do you think Charity will react when she finally finds out Jai's secret?
"I think everyone's expecting fireworks when Charity finds out. I'm sure that there will be, and I'm sure that there'll be a bit of revenge, too! But we have discussed it, and people do react differently to how you think they might under extreme circumstances.
"I suppose there is potentially a part of Charity - amid all the shouting - that will realise how important this baby is to Jai. Fatherhood is the only thing that Jai ever wanted, and if Charity had agreed to have a baby with him, we wouldn't have a soap storyline would we? They'd be happily ever after!"
Is the storyline still fun to play?
"It is fun to play, yes. I think before Jai went off to France, it was a very one-sided situation, because he was being pushed about and we only ever saw his reaction to what was happening to him. He was getting into a state!
"Now there's more of a balance, because we've now actually realised that Rachel has something to lose, too. She's now complicit in the big secret, because she's prevented Jai from telling Charity the truth. We're starting to get a better understanding of what's going on here and where these two characters are positioned.
"It's a great soap story and there are lots of twists and turns. In the episodes coming up, there are hints that Jai is maybe finding a bit of his old self as things settle a bit. We start to see him a little bit happier, but of course, it's always going to be very difficult for him to be the person he was when he first arrived in the village.
"I do miss the old Jai sometimes, as it's all been doom and gloom. For weeks and weeks before Christmas, I was coming into work and Jai was full of angst, so I'd spend all day crying and shouting. It was absolutely killing me, so a bit of light relief is nice!
You've recently become a father in real life. Has that affected your performance?
"Yeah, I think so. It's been a strange coincidence, as the timelines have been pretty close. Had Archie not been born prematurely in the show, Jai probably would have become a father at the same time as me in real life. That made things real and easier to play in some ways, because I instinctively knew how I would feel in real life.
"Obviously it very much informs the performance as you consider the way you feel about your own child. Being a father, I can understand how difficult it would be to be pushed away and excluded from seeing your child. That's a very difficult and real situation for a lot of people. I suppose my performance is more informed now."
Do you think Charity and Jai's marriage can survive?
"The truth will out, obviously. I think Jai's marriage would have more chance of surviving if he just told Charity the truth. I think if we hit the point where she just finds out herself, that'll be it and it'll be curtains for the relationship.
"But I genuinely don't know how this is going to resolve itself, and it looks like we're set to play this storyline for a little bit longer still. Each time we get to a point where Jai could reveal the truth and it doesn't happen, it gets that little bit more tense. The stakes are raised a little bit higher each and every time!"

Chris Bisson with his family on 'This Morning'
On screen in Emmerdale, Bisson's character Jai Sharma is experiencing parenthood from a very different perspective, as he is the secret father of Rachel Breckle's son Archie. The businessman has had little contact with Archie since his premature arrival in December.
Reflecting on being a father in real life and on screen, Bisson said today: "It was difficult at times, because we were dealing with premature babies, and then it was going home to see your girlfriend and thinking, 'I've just been crying all day about what happens when things go wrong'.
"But also it does give you that knowledge of what that love is like when you've got a baby of your own, and what lengths you would go to in order to protect the baby. I suppose it all affects how you play it."
Jai's storyline reaches another peak tomorrow night (April 26) as his suspicious wife Charity catches him with baby Archie at the factory.
Bisson continued: "Twitter's been going mad, because everyone's desperate for Charity to find out and come and catch me. She actually catches me with the baby in my arms tomorrow night, so it just gets progressively worse.
"We've just been filming some of the fallout, and then I've had a bit of a quiet period. We'll come back to it."
Asked whether things will get better for Jai, he replied: "I'm hoping so. It's funny, actually, because Jai's become more horrible to play - he's become more devious. Actually that's more interesting for me, but it's hard playing a storyline where you're always depressed. A bit of lightness would be nice!"
Emmerdale continues tonight at 6.45pm on ITV.
Emmerdale's Jai, Rachel and Charity storyline took a shocking twist this evening (April 26) as Rishi Sharma made a desperate attempt to cover for his deceitful son.
With Charity on the warpath after finding out that Jai is the father of Rachel's baby, Rishi suddenly intervened by claiming to be the dad.
Emmerdale bosses decided to keep tonight's twist under wraps to provide an element of surprise for viewers, and fans will now have to wait until Monday to see whether Charity believes Rishi's false claims.
Earlier today, Digital Spy caught up with Chris Bisson - who plays Jai - to hear his reaction to tonight's episode and where things might be heading next.
What are your thoughts on tonight's big twist?
"First of all, I think it's great that we don't give away all soap storylines all the time. It's always nice when there's a reason to tune in and watch the episode, rather than reading every detail in the magazines.
"There's been so much hype around this and everyone was just expecting Charity to go absolutely ballistic in tonight's episode. Of course that did happen, but then there was another twist that you just didn't see coming. It's a jaw-dropper. Whether Charity buys this or not is another matter, and you really will just have to tune into Monday's episode to find out how the story unfolds."
How long have you known this was coming?
"I've known this was coming for months. We filmed this episode six weeks ago now, but from chats with the producers, I knew that this story would lead up to Rishi trying to cover for Jai.
"As an actor and someone who's enjoying the story, I quite like the idea that this big lie could get compounded by an even bigger one. As I said before, you'll have to wait to see whether Charity believes it - but the longer it goes on, the worse it gets!"
You and Gemma Oaten (Rachel) have both done live TV interviews this week to promote the storyline. Has it been difficult not to give tonight's twist away?
"Yes, I was on This Morning yesterday and I felt so guilty! I get on well with Schofe and Holly, so I felt like a bit of a cheat having to dodge some of their questions! I didn't lie, but I didn't go as far to reveal what would happen. I'll have to tweet them to apologise!"
What kind of a reaction are you expecting from the viewers?
"I'm hoping that the twist was jaw-dropping and that everyone will be discussing what might happen next. We've got the whole weekend to wonder what will happen if Charity believes it and what might happen if she doesn't accept what Rishi is saying. There's also the question of whether Jai would go along with it and whether Rachel would go along with it.
"What happened tonight was Rishi standing up to save Jai's marriage. Now Charity has to buy it, Rachel has to go along with it and Jai has to buy into it too! Rishi may have created a whole world of problems, because if Charity doesn't believe what he's saying, then she'd never look at him in the same way either. She'd see him as a liar who's just trying to protect his son."
When Charity confronted Jai, was her reaction as bad as he'd feared it would be?
"Well, she didn't come in and start a physical fight immediately! (Laughs.) That was probably because Jai was holding the baby, but also because she was in shock. Nobody usually pulls the wool over Charity's eyes - she's very smart and savvy.
"But in some ways, I think the audience might quite like seeing Charity get taken for a ride, as some people don't like Charity's character! What's been interesting with this storyline is that people have sided in different ways all the way through - some viewers are supporting Jai, some are supporting Rachel and some are supporting Charity. Everyone's been in the wrong in some ways and there is no clear victim."
If Rishi's scheme works, will Jai be hugely grateful to his father?
"You'll have to tune in on Monday to find out! It's very, very interesting and it's complicated whichever way it goes. Another lie to compound the previous deception would only make everything worse. It may or may not work, but whether it's a good move or a bad move I'm not sure!
"Unfortunately, as I had to dodge questions from Holly and Phil yesterday, I'll have to dodge some of yours as well as I can't give away what happens next! I apologise to Digital Spy readers in advance, but you'll just have to tune in on Monday to see the outcome!"
Are you excited for what's coming up on Emmerdale with new producer Kate Oates on board?
"Absolutely, it's a really exciting time to be part of Emmerdale. We're doing fantastically well in the ratings and the storylines are really good. Kate was with us before as a story producer, and it was Kate who first got the Jai baby story up and running."
Do you disapprove of Jai's antics, or do you find yourself justifying his behaviour in order to play him?
"You always have to believe the words that you're saying on screen, otherwise nobody else will believe them either. It can be difficult sometimes, because Jai is so hypocritical at times with what he says. In trying to understand your character, you do have a degree of sympathy for their situation.
"It's quite funny, as sometimes we sit in the green room and make comments about the characters, but the actors in question can get very defensive about their character! I'm not so defensive when it comes to Jai, as people are bound to have opinions on what he does."
We've seen more of Georgia recently. Is Trudie Goodwin with the show full-time now?
"Trudie is back and has been around the building, so there's a lot more to come from her. I'm definitely hoping that she sticks around, because she's a great addition to the Sharma family. Georgia is such a great character and I think the Sharmas were missing that strong female character at the head of the family."
In real life, you welcomed baby Harry earlier this year. How are you finding being a new dad?
"I absolutely love it. We had Harry on This Morning yesterday, but that was a bit impromptu, to be honest! We were going to London for the day as a family as I was down to do the interview, so he made a little appearance on screen.
"We had loads of feedback yesterday - my Twitter feed went barmy with people sending really nice messages about how cute he is. I'm grateful for those and it's always nice to hear. I'm a very proud dad in real life, and I'm just glad my life isn't as complicated as Jai's!"
Emmerdale's Charity Sharma will be out for revenge after she discovers the truth about baby Archie's paternity next month.
Viewers know that Charity's husband Jai fathered Archie with Rachel Breckle when they had a one-night stand last year. However, the long-running storyline saw Jai's dad Rishi cover for his son, falsely claiming the child was his, after Charity became suspicious.
The paternity plot will reach its climax next month when Charity finds out the truth after Rachel comes clean with her boyfriend Sam Dingle, reports the Daily Star Sunday.
Charity is out for revenge after confronting the pair, furious that they used Rishi to cover up their deceit.
Bhasker Patel - who plays Rishi - recently told Digital Spy that he would have to hide out "in a bunker" when Archie's paternity was finally revealed.

I wonder why Rachel tells Sam now? Does something happen to encourage her to do it?
As for Charity, I have zero sympathy for her. She's not exactly an angel after she slept with Declan. As for him, I can imagine the smug look on his face when he sees Jai is not innocent in all this. He did have suspicions for a while, after all.
I don't think Katie needs to get revenge on Charity, as some magazines pointed out a few months ago.
And Priya? Another excuse for her to mope some more.

Emmerdale businessman Jai Sharma has a busy fortnight ahead as he is delighted to finally get a lead over the whereabouts of Rachel Breckle and their baby son Archie.
Jai is intrigued when a man named Mark approaches him with possible information over where Rachel is hiding out, but he isn't willing to share the details for free…
Here, Chris Bisson - who plays Jai - previews the twists and turns in store following Mark's arrival.
How does Jai react when Mark gets in touch?
"Obviously Jai has been desperately searching for Rachel and Archie. The private investigator hasn't turned up much and Jai is coming up with a new plan because he's getting really frustrated and really bogged down with it. His media campaign in the newspaper and on the internet has got a result - somebody's bitten, so immediately his hopes are up."
Does Jai's first meeting with Mark go well?
"When Mark comes to see Jai, it's seemingly going okay until Rishi mentions that Rachel is in trouble with the police, which leads to Mark walking out. At this point, Jai is pretty desperate and pretty upset. He tries to say to Mark, 'Look, we can keep the police out of it, I just want my son back', but Mark's not really having any of it.
"So that's a bit of a problem, but Jai has got his hopes up now. He knows that somebody knows where Rachel is - or he thinks somebody does, anyway. It goes quiet on the Mark front and then suddenly out of the blue, Jai gets this photo message of Rachel. So this Mark is proving that he knows Rachel and then Jai really gets his hopes up."

Rishi and Jai meet with Mark
Rishi tries to warn Jai off, doesn't he?
"Yeah, Rishi is more cautious from the outset. Mark is a bit of a dodgy character and I suppose in some ways it all plays out against Jai's better judgment, really. But Jai so desperately needs some hope and he's all-consumed with finding Archie. He'll take any little lead that he gets."
Charity and Declan are shocked when they hear about the lead and decide to find out more from Jai. How do they go about that?
"Charity tries to seduce Jai in a way, but not seductively! She tries to seduce Jai by being amicable over the divorce. She's trying to be nice, but I think it's true to say that Charity's only nice when she wants something and Jai sees through that. He is wrapped up in his own problems and she is trying to find information.
"Charity and Declan absolutely don't want Rachel turning up. If the truth comes out, Declan will go down for fraud and for arson, Charity will be complicit and Declan will probably take Charity with him. The stakes are pretty high."

What happens when Mark meets up with Jai again?
"On the second meeting, Jai really is hopeful that he's going to get somewhere after he's seen the photographic proof. Charity's in the factory sniffing around, but she's trying to be nice and dresses it up as if she has come to talk divorces in a nice and adult way. Mark turns up so Charity sees him, but she doesn't know who he is. Then we get into the nitty gritty of the negotiations with Mark and what it's going to take."
What does Mark want in exchange for the information?
"It's money. He claims that he's from the same estate as Rachel, which he is, as he's got a photo on his phone. But Mark also says that if he were to take Jai to Rachel, then he would be known as a grass, so he needs to relocate his family. He wants a lot of money - he wants £20,000 for it. There's a final twist and he comes back for more. Mark is greedy. He's trying to extract every bit of money that he can out of Jai, and Jai wants to believe everything that he says."
Jai accepts what Mark is saying and heads to the estate. What is his plan?
"Jai is planning to snatch Archie, and he's brought toys to try to make that easier for Archie. Jai knows that Rachel is up for arson, so if he snatches Archie she can't really go to the police. Jai has arrived with Mark, and Mark goes to check if the coast is clear, but the viewers will see that Declan and Charity have arrived too…"

We can't give away what happens next, but Jai is also involved in Priya's storyline next week…
"Yes, we see in the next week or so that Priya is not really eating and Jai has started to notice. She's had anorexia before and they've got through it - now she's pregorexic and she's reacting to her body changing and getting bigger. She doesn't want to get bigger - she doesn't want to get 'fatter'.
"Eventually Jai does manage to get it out of Priya. Leyla tips him off that she thinks something's wrong, but of course, somebody with a really severe problem like that is a very polished and professional liar. They are used to thinking about what they're going to say to people, and how they're going to cover their tracks and where they're going to lose their food.
"It's very difficult to detect, and especially for someone with the problems that Jai's got, he's really not focused on anything else but trying to find Archie. It's hard to spot, but when he does find out he tackles Priya directly about it."
What happens when Jai confronts Priya?
"Jai is quite forceful with it. I suppose these were difficult scenes to play because on the one hand Jai needs to be sympathetic, but on the other hand he needs to get a confession first and foremost. Priya needs to admit what she is doing and only at that point can they help her.
"Jai uses shock tactics on Priya and she does admit it. She admits it really because she doesn't want Jai to tell Rishi or her mum. So she's admitted it to Jai and Leyla, but whether or not she's going to actually be true to her word is another thing. This is a long storyline and it's going run all the way up until Priya has the baby, and then possibly beyond."

What do you make of that storyline?
"It's an important story and Fiona [Wade, who plays Priya] takes it very seriously. The whole Emmerdale team has invested a lot of time in trying to get it right and trying to understand it, as it's a very real and serious problem for a lot of people. We treat it all as sensitively as we possibly can - without losing the drama of course. We have to see the gritty reality."
Are you missing working with little Adam who played Archie?
"Yeah, I do miss him. Jai is desperate to have him back. I still do work with him, because I've got a photo of him on my desk. Jai has a photo of Archie on his desk in his office, so every time I'm playing a scene, he's always there sat on the desk. He's still here in spirit. We're just waiting for the time that we get him back."

Jai Sharma finds himself caught up in a war between Megan Macey and Leyla Harding next week when they both make rival offers to invest in his business.
Jai is in desperate need of some cash following some reckless spending, but do his loyalties lie with current partner Megan or feisty Leyla?
Here, Chris Bisson - who plays Jai - previews his character's decision and ponders whether his interest in Leyla will become a romantic one…
How is Jai feeling about his relationship with Megan at the moment?
"I think it's just 'alright' between Jai and Megan at the moment. The relationship really suited Jai while the situation with Charity and Declan was going on, but I suppose now that Charity and Declan are married, it's not quite as interesting as it used to be!
"It did really suit both of them, because it was always Jai, Megan and Robbie versus Charity and Declan. I suppose now it's just become a little bit flatter."
Why do Jai and Megan start clashing over the factory?
"Megan puts pressure on Jai as she wants to invest in the factory. Jai is having some financial difficulties because he spent a little bit too much money trying to find Archie. He needs a short-term loan now, but Megan doesn't want to give that to him - she wants to buy into the factory herself.
"Jai resists this for two reasons. One is that Megan is interfering and will want to take over, while Jai sees this very much as his business.
"The other reason is that Jai maybe isn't 100% sure about their relationship anymore. You maybe shouldn't mix business and pleasure anyway, but if you're unsure about the relationship, it doesn't quite work. But Jai obviously can't say that, otherwise he'd be walking with a limp! He has to skirt around this issue and tow a sensitive line!"
But then Leyla comes forward with a rival offer…
"Yes, Leyla gets wind of the situation. Priya is involved in that a little bit too. Priya knows that Jai isn't keen on Megan's ideas, so she preps Leyla to come to the factory and make him a financial offer.
"This offer appeals to Jai because he thinks that Leyla is thick. He thinks that he can have Leyla working on the factory floor, take her money and nothing will really change. Because Leyla isn't an established businesswoman, Jai thinks that he'll be able to control the factory more if they do things this way. He's confident that Leyla won't be interfering and questioning his decisions."
How do Megan and Leyla react when they become rivals?
"Well, it all comes to a head in The Woolpack, when Leyla throws down a challenge to Megan, almost Apprentice-style! Leyla suggests that they should both take £40 of Jai's money and aim to build on it within a couple of hours.
"Jai quite likes the idea, as he's sitting in the middle of these two beautiful battling women! He thinks it's quite fun and Leyla has got quite a spark to her, which Jai is starting to like."
How does the challenge go?
"Leyla gets her former lapdancing outfits out and gets some of the other girls dressed up in them. They sell burgers to the cyclists who are taking part in the Tour de France, so Leyla makes cash quite quickly.
"Megan also reluctantly accepts the challenge, but she goes off and sorts out some sort of deal involving chocolate Santas for the factory. This is obviously the duller but more profitable way of making money! Megan doesn't actually have the cash on her, as what she's organised is all 'in theory', while Leyla actually has the cash.
"In the end, Jai decides that he likes the 'get up and go' style that Leyla has. It's compounded by Megan being a bit snooty towards Leyla, and that puts the final nail in the coffin. Jai has grown to like Leyla's sparkiness, but Megan puts her down and is quite aloof. That's when Jai makes the decision that he's going to accept Leyla's money!"
Is Jai making the right decision?
"It's very short-lived, because Leyla comes into the factory lording it up and it's really not what Jai was expecting. Leyla doesn't come to work to do her normal job - she goes straight into the office and tells everyone about how she has invested. She even asks which desk is hers, which is not what Jai was wanting!
"Jai then asks Leyla to apologise for her behaviour and she doesn't like the way he's treating her. He is quite condescending and I particularly enjoyed playing him like that, to be honest with you!"
As Jai is starting to like Leyla, could there be more to come there?
"It depends on how the director cuts the episodes! (Laughs.) I definitely filmed a couple of glances, as Jai has noticed Leyla now and she's on his radar. Jai thinks Leyla is a bit thick and a bit gobby, but also sparky and fun."
Do you think Jai deserves some happiness?
"Well, let's be fair, Jai has had a pretty rubbish time and he's been at his lowest ebb. Nothing has gone right for him. I should have listened to all those old ladies in the supermarket! When Jai first got involved with Charity, everyone used to come up to me and say, 'Oh you want to steer clear of that Charity, she's bad news!' They were right!"
Emmerdale launches a new affair storyline in tonight's episode (Wednesday, July 30) as Jai Sharma gives into temptation with Leyla Harding.
The businessman turns to Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) for comfort when she is there for him by chance following a humiliating experience at The Woolpack.
Jai is still currently in a relationship with Megan Macey (Gaynor Faye), while Leyla has recently gone into business with her - so it's clear that both characters are playing with fire as they betray one of the village's feistiest residents!
Digital Spy recently caught up with Chris Bisson, who plays Jai, to hear more about the steamy storyline and the drama to come.
Why has Leyla caught Jai's eye?
"It's been a slow-burner between Jai and Leyla. Jai never really took her seriously until she had that competition with Megan over who should invest in the factory. That was when Jai realised that he liked Leyla's spark. She seemed very fun and she proved herself not to be as ditzy as Jai first thought. He saw something a little bit intriguing about her at that point.
"Through Priya's arranged marriage storyline, we've also seen a slightly more serious side as Leyla is really sticking up for Priya. That's meant that Jai and Leyla have been forced to interact with each other, and they've realised that they get on very well."
How is Jai feeling about Megan at the moment?
"Their relationship is in a bit of a funny place. Jai is not so focused on Megan at the moment, because he's spending so much time worrying about Priya and her plans for an arranged marriage with Rakesh.
"I think in some ways, things have gone a little bit flat with Megan as far as Jai is concerned. He sees a bit more spark with Leyla now that he's had his head turned by her. They both like each other, but that is a big problem because Jai is clearly with Megan!"
How does the affair between Jai and Leyla start?
"The first moment of infidelity between Jai and Leyla actually comes after Megan has pushed Jai into a position that he really doesn't want to be in. Megan encourages Jai to attend a family do at The Woolpack, even though he really doesn't want to as he cannot stand Rakesh.
"Jai ends up losing his temper with Rakesh at the pub, but he accidentally punches David instead. He then feels upset about the position he's been put into and how he's now viewed by the rest of his family, who can't understand why he's acting this way."
What happens next?
"Jai goes round to see Megan at her new business, but she's not there and he ends up chatting to Leyla about what happened instead. They drink a bottle of champagne that Jai dropped off earlier as a good luck present for the wedding business, so one thing leads to another after that!"
Does Jai feel guilty about betraying Megan?
"Yeah, definitely! We've played quite a few scenes where Jai and Leyla are both feeling guilty. You'll see more of that going forward. At first it's just a case of, 'What have we done?!' They do feel guilty, but despite that, there's still a spark and they do like each other.
"It's a tricky position for both of them and it would be best for everyone if they just came clean, but we're a soap and we never do that, so it will rumble on!"
We'll also find out more about Jai and Rakesh's history next week, won't we?
"Yes, next week they have a showdown outside The Woolpack and the truth will come out. That's when the audience will finally know exactly why Jai hates Rakesh. Leyla is also involved in that situation, as she comes out to defuse what could be a fight outside the pub. Leyla then tells Jai that he really needs to come clean with Priya about everything.
"The reason that Jai hasn't told everyone why he hates Rakesh is that Jai is heavily implicated in the problem himself! He can't tell everyone why he hates Rakesh because he hates himself just as much for what he's done in his own past.
"In the end, with a bit of help from Leyla, Jai comes to the conclusion that Priya will forgive his own misdemeanours but she really needs to know why he feels so strongly against Rakesh. Jai tells Rakesh that he'll take the flak, because his sister's happiness is more important than his pride."
Viewers probably think Jai is overreacting to Rakesh so far! Will they be more understanding when the full story comes out?
"With the way it's played out so far, nobody can understand why Jai is acting the way he is. Even I didn't know when I first got the scripts! The first time Jai saw Rakesh, he threw him out of the house immediately. Then on the third time, he attacked him!
"I had to go up to see the story team to ask, 'What's Rakesh done? He must have done something pretty bad for me to attack him straight off!' They explained it all to me so that I could play those scenes properly, knowing full well that the audience and the characters would think that Jai was completely overreacting.
"Jai probably still is overreacting a little bit, but he is protective because Rakesh wants to marry Priya. He thinks that their past behaviour was alright when they were young, but now Rakesh wants to marry his sister, now it's not okay!"

Rakesh's presence has unsettled Jai
Would you like Jai and Leyla to become a proper couple?
"I think they make quite a good couple. They're definitely quite fun together, but it isn't going to be easy because there's a lot going on - certainly in Jai's life and a lot in Megan's life as well. That will all play out in the future. They certainly like each other but they also understand that it's not the right thing to do."
Will there be fireworks when Megan does find out?
"I have no idea what happens yet! I think all of the characters have been through a lot and Megan has probably taken her eye off the ball a little bit. With the whole Priya and Rakesh situation going on, Jai and Leyla have really slipped under everyone's radar. There's such a big hoo-ha about Priya's arranged marriage that I don't think anyone really notices what's going on.
"Jai and Leyla are having an affair and they cover it up pretty well - for a time! But at the end of next week, there is a situation where Jai and Leyla are repeat offending at the factory and Rakesh arrives. They're not 100% sure what he's seen after that…"
Would you like Jai to be involved in Charity and Declan's comeuppance when it finally happens?
"Definitely! Jai should be involved because he's been really hurt by Charity. We know he's hurt her too, but when the truth eventually comes out about what Charity did to get rid of Rachel and Archie, I'm sure there will be fireworks.
"Jai is still very cut up about losing Archie. There's still a picture of Archie on his desk at work and his pain over that situation is something that is never going to go away. It still hurts deep down inside, whether we're filming scenes to do with that issue or not."
It's been a busy year for the Sharmas so far, so will that continue into the autumn?
"Yes, I think they're going to stay pretty busy to be honest with you. We've just introduced new characters, so Rakesh is on the scene, his son Kirin is joining too and there's quite a lot going on there.
"The Megan/Jai/Leyla triangle will play out for a while too, so there's certainly plenty more to see from the Sharmas…"
Emmerdale aired a big reveal moment at the end of Tuesday night's episode (October 14) as Jai Sharma was confirmed as Charity Macey's kidnapper.
A number of names had been in the frame after Charity was attacked and locked up in a shipping container, but viewers now know that Jai has taken the drastic action - wanting answers over the whereabouts of his young son Archie.
Digital Spy recently caught up with Chris Bisson, who plays Jai, to hear his thoughts on this surprising storyline twist for his character.
When did you first hear that this storyline was coming up?
"It came out of a conversation that I had with the show's producer Kate Oates at an awards ceremony. I asked, 'How are we going to resolve the Archie story once Declan leaves?' Kate told me they were thinking about it, and I said that from my experience of being a father, there would be no lengths that Jai wouldn't go to in order to get information on Archie's whereabouts from Charity. It would be a gloves-off situation, as he would definitely hate her and be thinking of doing something nasty to her!
"Further on down the line, Kate told me that she'd been thinking of what I'd said at the awards, and so they'd decided to go bigger with this storyline. Obviously they were planning on it anyway, but it was the severity of it that changed."
Is it unusual for the bosses to take on board ideas from the cast?
"It's not unusual, but I think sometimes you just have conversations that resonate with them. Obviously I only think about Jai - that's what they pay me to do! So that's why I said that I thought Jai could be taken to extremes with this story. That obviously struck a chord with the writing team and it all just fitted together nicely.
"I'm definitely playing a much darker character than I came in with, but like everybody in Emmerdale, bad things happen and that changes your character's personality!"
How did you feel when you saw the scripts for these episodes?
"I was still quite shocked by what Jai had done and the way that he'd gone about it. What he's done is very much pre-meditated, and that's the disturbing thing! Once I'd read the scripts twice, I realised that Jai must have got all of this organised in advance. He's gone away, found this shipping container and then decided what he was going to do to Charity. He's been driven to it.
"On Friday, you saw that Declan told everyone that Charity had Rachel's mobile number. Even when Jai went round to Home Farm afterwards, Charity denied that she had anything. Another thing is that Declan said to Jai that getting rid of Archie might have given Charity the greatest pleasure.
"Because of that, Jai has realised that if Charity has gone to those lengths to hurt him, she is absolutely never going to give up the information of where Archie is unless he forces it out of her. That's why what he does is so severe!"

Charity is being held captive
Is Jai planning to kill Charity, or is he just trying to scare her?
"Jai just wants the information of where Archie is from Charity. If he gets his son back, Charity will be released and there's no two ways about that. You'll have to wait and see how far Jai goes because I don't want to spoil this week's episodes, but he's already gone to the lengths of premeditated kidnap and torture. Those are very, very extreme emotional responses to a very difficult situation."
Is Charity shocked when she finds out the kidnapper is Jai? After all, she accused him of making empty threats on Friday…
"Yes, I think she is surprised! As Declan is still on the loose, Charity thinks that he must be the kidnapper.
"I think the audience will be surprised by this too. It's nice to hold things back and for there to be some genuine surprises in the show. It's an appointment-to-watch storyline, rather than just reading everything in advance online or in a soap magazine. In some ways spoilers can be counterproductive and certainly for my generation growing up, the watercooler moments came when people were talking about stuff that they hadn't been forewarned about. Those are the things that make the biggest ripples."

Jai wants answers from Charity
Do you think the audience will have any sympathy for Jai?
"I know that they didn't have much sympathy for him when he sacked Lisa the other week! (Laughs.) That was funny because my Twitter went absolutely barmy after that storyline! I wasn't expecting it, but if they write your character horrible, you play horrible and that's the way it goes.
"I think that the audience may understand Jai's actions, partly because Charity has been so devious. She has manipulated and hurt so many people on this whole journey that she's been on with Declan. Charity has chewed people up, spat them out and had no regard for anyone.
"When you play Jai against that and the audience's desire for Charity to get her comeuppance, which is long overdue, I think people will understand why he's been driven to these lengths. Although I think he's probably taken it a bit too far for some people's liking! We're playing out a case of 'Who's worse?', but you probably always get a little bit of sympathy and understanding if you're playing against Charity!"
Jai also has a shock accident of his own later in the week…
"Yes, I don't want to give too much away about that, but it's in the 7,000th episode of Emmerdale on Thursday that Jai ends up coming a little bit unstuck. That's pretty much as a direct consequence of what he's done to Charity.
"It's all related to that, as Jai is not a professional kidnapper, torturer or hitman! He's very much out of his comfort zone. He may be trying to play it hard and his emotions are driving him, but he's definitely out of his comfort zone and that pressure will start to get to him."
Do you think it's likely we'll see Gemma Oaten on screen again as Rachel to tie up all of the loose ends?
"I think so - I think it's inevitable that it comes full circle at some point, but whenever that is, I don't know. I honestly don't know what's going to come of that. I suppose the audience like to have things wrapped up, but at the same time it's nice for us to have ongoing stories that aren't resolved and are driving characters forward.
"Something like a missing son can certainly make people bitter and twisted. Jai is suffering from the emotional consequences of having that happen to him. I don't expect you to see him get nice again any time soon. It's the new emotionally damaged Jai that we're dealing with!"
Emmerdale star Chris Bisson has said that fans have been backing his character Jai Sharma for kidnapping Charity Macey.
The ITV soap aired a big reveal moment at the end of yesterday's episode (October 14), as Jai was confirmed as Charity mystery kidnapper.
Viewers now know that Jai attacked Charity and locked her up in a shipping container in order to get answers about the whereabouts of his young son, Archie.
Speaking about the storyline on Good Morning Britain today, Bisson said: "It was a shocker for lots of people - it's nice to hold back a storyline.
"It got a really good response and the most common message I got was that Charity had it coming. She's very unpopular."
Bisson previously told Digital Spy that he thinks viewers will be able to understand Jai's drastic actions.
He said: "I think that the audience may understand Jai's actions, partly because Charity has been so devious.

I'm kinda disappointed myself that Jai is the kidnapper
Emmerdale businessman Jai Sharma finally enjoys some good fortune next week as he is reunited with his young son Archie.
Jai has to pay to get Archie back after a dodgy guy makes contact with him to share a suspicious story about the youngster's mum Rachel Breckle.
Here, Chris Bisson - who plays Jai - explains why his character accepts the deal with few questions asked…
Does Jai regret imprisoning Charity?
"I'm not sure Jai regrets imprisoning Charity. She needed to be taught a lesson, but I think he probably regrets how it all ended and I'm sure he's probably slightly damaged. I'm not sure how long it'll take for the psychological effects of imprisoning her to show, but it was all very traumatic and Jai got himself into such a state."
Does Jai think the trail for Archie has gone cold?
"After what happened with Charity, Jai has had to take a step back from himself and really look at himself. He's acted in a way which is out of character, because he's not a professional hitman! I think Jai is probably worried about his behaviour and he's worried about what the search for Archie has done to him.
"Charity has turned up nothing and she's clearly sticking by her story that she doesn't know where Archie is. Jai is probably satisfied that she doesn't know much and he thinks that he has to back off.
"Everything has imploded in Jai's life - his relationship with Megan, his affair being brought out, and he's also suffering physical injuries and psychological injuries. Jai decides to step back from the search for Archie for self-preservation."
How does Jai react when he catches Priya and Rakesh kissing in his office next week?
"Jai is not pleased but he handles it quite well, I think! He doesn't completely lose his rag but he's certainly not happy about it. Jai has organised a family meal, so he's almost setting them both up for a fall later on because he thinks his mum's going to finish the job for him!
"It doesn't quite turn out like that. There is an edgy moment in The Woolpack, but the big revelation is when Jai gets a text…"
What does the text say?
"It's an anonymous text from somebody who says that he has Archie. Jai's world stands still again, because of everything he's just been through. It's almost like he doesn't want to believe that it's true and he's trying to suppress his emotions.
"Jai says to this person that he's been stung before and that he needs to see the boy for himself. So he goes to meet him and this fella has actually got Archie in the back of a car."
What happens next?
"Jai runs over to the car, sees Archie and then tries to open the door to get in, but the car drives off. He then turns on the bloke who's brought him there, who says that he's there on behalf of Rachel. He says that she needs money to go into rehab and gives Jai a whole story.
"Against his better judgement, Jai wants to believe that Rachel's alright and that he's telling the truth. Jai has become slightly darker and he's not so interested in the hows or whys of the situation, but he just wants his son back. He's prepared to overlook the fact that he doesn't know for sure exactly what's going on."

How does Jai explain himself to Ali when he gets Archie back?
"Jai basically uses the story that the guy has told him, but he pretends that it was Rachel who said it and he's seen her. He hopes that will convince people. It all happens very quickly and Jai is an emotional mess after seeing Archie again. He even has to do a deal with the devil by asking Rakesh to help him come up with the money to get Archie back immediately.
"Jai does so, but in the process he hasn't really thought about the consequences or about Rachel's welfare. His focus is purely on getting Archie back."
What happens when Ali doesn't believe Jai's story and calls the police?
"Jai gets slightly worried because there's been a chain of events that doesn't necessarily make sense and he's covering parts of the story up. He's lying and manipulating the truth, so he's naturally concerned when the police arrive.
"At the same time, Jai is somebody who's been searching for his son for a long time. He's hardened and toughened, and he doesn't really care about Rachel as he's now got what's most important to him. For Jai, the price of having to lie to the police and fob Ali off is nothing compared to what it means to him to get his son back. He's prepared to do it. Jai is prepared to do a lot now, as we've seen!
"Jai is elated to have Archie back as it's all he's ever wanted. It'll never run smoothly, but if it did, Jai could actually be a nice person again!"
Emmerdale businessman Jai Sharma will return to his old tricks by cheating on his partner Megan Macey again.
Show producer Kate Oates has confirmed that an upcoming storyline will see history repeat itself as Jai gives into temptation with his ex-lover Leyla Harding.
Megan previously forgave Jai (Chris Bisson) for cheating on her with Leyla last year, but the big question is whether she can be so understanding second time round.
Speaking on Emmerdale's Facebook page, Oates commented: "I feel that Megan, as such a strong character, is someone that's put her own moral compass on the backburner somewhat just so she can support Jai. That's because Jai represents everything that she's lost.
"She's lost her own family, so she needs to really key into his - and that includes Archie. She's really going to be investing in him and supporting him in the custody battle that he's fighting with Rachel.
"It means she's taking her eye off the ball with other things. When Jai moves back towards Leyla - because let's face it, he can't resist his passion for her - Megan might find herself pushed to the sidelines again.

"I really want her to find out. When she does find out, sparks are going to fly, so watch this space because Leyla is supposed to be her best friend and we all know how those stories end up!"
Oates also spoke about the build-up to Rachel's upcoming exit, which will see her relationship with Sam Dingle hit the rocks.
She said: "I think what's really important to remember from Rachel over her year away is that she went through a really, really horrible time. She was always looking over her shoulder. Now she's home, but home isn't how she remembered it. The Dingles stood up for Charity, Sam stood up for Charity and she's really struggling to fit back in.

Sam and Rachel
"I think that what we see here is a load of anger that has been pushed down and suppressed, and it's going to come out. It looks like Sam might often be the one in the firing line for that.
"As Jai pushes for custody with Archie and gets nastier and nastier with Rachel, Rachel's really going to struggle with that. I guess the question is, can she handle those mood swings and that temper? Is Sam enough to bring her back from the brink, or is Sam going to find himself in line for some heartache?"

Emmerdale fans can expect rows and romance for Jai Sharma this week as his ongoing storylines continue to heat up.
The ruthless businessman has more trouble in store for Rachel Breckle as he aims to win full custody of their son Archie, but is he playing with fire when he also reignites his affair with Leyla Harding?
Digital Spy recently caught up with Chris Bisson, who plays Jai, to hear his thoughts on his character's bad behaviour and whether he'll have to face the music.
How do you feel about Jai becoming more villainous again?
"I certainly find it more fun to play! I get some great lines now! (Laughs.) It can sometimes be hard to justify his actions because he does overstep the mark regularly, but it's certainly more interesting to play him like that.
"I think Jai has come to the end of his tether with this Archie situation now. He starts demonising Rachel in his own mind by catastrophising various events. That's his justification - he's come so far and now he's got the final push to finally get his son."
Rachel hasn't been an angel either recently. Whose side do you think the viewers will be on when they go head-to-head?
"I don't know actually, but I don't think they're going to be on Jai's side! There's only certain moments when you see any redeemable qualities in Jai. With the stuff I've been shooting now, those moments are quite thin on the ground, to be honest with you!
"I think Rachel possibly has some sympathy from people because she shows genuine regret and remorse when she does something wrong, whereas Jai is a lot more bullish and he's certainly very ego-centric. He's out for what he wants and he isn't taking any prisoners on the way."
Rachel is horrified when Jai threatens her with court.

Jai and Rachel have more tension ahead
Why do tensions flare up between Jai and Rachel again this week?
"Archie suffers a broken arm when he's in Rachel's care. He's been in hospital and he's been patched up, but Jai knows nothing about it. He only finds out about it the following day when he hears it being discussed at the café. This infuriates him, because yet again he feels like he's been pushed out to the sidelines. As Archie's dad, he should have been told immediately, but there is some sort of conspiracy to keep the news from him.
"I think that starts to play on Jai's mind and that's the tipping point where he thinks, 'I can't trust Rachel and I certainly can't trust any of the people around her either, because none of them have bothered to tell me'. Lisa, Zak and Ruby are all implicated in that, because they know but don't tell him."
Some spoiler pictures for this week see the feud escalate further when Rachel causes an accident for Rishi. What happens there?
"You'll have to wait and see exactly what happens, but it's the beginning of Jai's strategy to undermine Rachel. It's to try to pull her close, wind her up and let her bring herself down. Jai understands that Rachel has got a temper and she's under a lot of pressure. He doesn't mind ramping up the pressure until it's unbearable.
"Jai wants everybody else - including the courts - to see that Rachel is unsuitable mother material and that Archie will have a better and more stable life living with him. Archie has already been on the run with Rachel, and now that her temper is causing problems, he's hoping that will play well for him in the custody battle."
Rishi doesn't approve of Jai's actions, though...
"I think Rishi is the only character who is purely looking in Archie's best interests. Jai and Rachel are polarised and they're in entrenched positions. I don't think either of them are going to back down.
"I don't think anyone doubts that Jai is probably a good dad, but with the way he goes about it, it's almost like he's prepared to destroy anybody else in order to make that happen."
Jai purposefully winds Rachel up and soon once again a fracas ensues

Jai purposefully winds Rachel up
With Rachel leaving the show, will Jai have to watch out for her potentially disappearing with Archie again?
"I think that's probably at the forefront of his mind when he's trying to win custody of Archie! I don't think it would quite be in the same circumstances as last time when Rachel was actually on the run and not traceable, but she is certainly showing herself to be very unpredictable and that she needs some anger management!"
How does Jai and Leyla's affair start up again?
"They're both drawn to each other and it's never really gone away. It might have gone off-screen, but I don't think for the characters it's ever gone away. Leyla's family are all moving abroad so she's feeling lonely and vulnerable.
"Jai is also feeling pretty desperate. He's fallen out with his dad, things with Megan are so-so and he's really upset about the Archie situation. They're both prepared to wallow and come to each other for comfort."
Does Jai have strong feelings for Leyla?
"I think they really do have a genuine thing for each other and that's something that we will see play out. This week is the beginning of something happening between them. With the recent poster that came out for the summer, it's clear to see that there is a love triangle coming. We're not really hiding the fact that the Leyla affair is going to be ongoing!"
Leyla offloads to Jai and before too long it leads to something else!

Leyla offloads to Jai
The producers have teased that Megan's revenge will be one to watch out for when she knows the truth!
"I think Jai definitely needs to be wary of Megan. You can only rub so many people up the wrong way in a soap without getting your comeuppance, and I imagine that will come soon enough for Jai.
"To be honest with you, I don't actually know what happens yet because I'm not across the advance storylines. I'm just working on what we're filming now, but Jai is fairly ruthless over the coming period and he doesn't have that many redeemable qualities, so I'm sure there will be hell to pay!"
Is it nice to be involved in the show's big summer promo campaign?
"Yeah, it's always good when we get a bit of a momentum behind stories and the audience and the media get excited. We've had plenty of trailers and teasers to put out, because it gets people talking about it. I haven't read the scripts yet though, so all I can say is that we're all really excited to see what's coming."
We keep hearing whispers of death and destruction ahead in the summer...
"Well, I don't think I'll be speaking out of turn if I say you're pretty much guaranteed death and destruction of some kind at some point!"
Do the cast get nervous about those sorts of stories, knowing that some characters may have to go?
"I suppose it can be unsettling if you hear that there are going to be a lot of characters killed off. Some people worry about it more than others! I suppose it's inevitable, though - it's like in any big company when they announce the redundancies!
"What's fair to say is that in this line of business, it's always an option. Sometimes people can take it personally, but it's just the nature of the beast. That's what happens in soaps and that's what you know when you join a show."
Do you think what's coming up could top the 2013 siege and flood at The Woolpack?
"I would always like to think that we can go one better. The aspiration is always to go bigger. I don't think we'd ever admit or concede that we can't do any better than we've done previously, because we're always striving to be better!"

Could be a bluff and he is leaving
Looks like it has been confirmed according to DS:
Things are getting very nasty in Emmerdale and Chris Bisson has revealed his character Jai Sharma will be right at the centre of it.
The actor has assured viewers that he will be sticking around for a while to cause havoc, as he has signed a new contract.
During an interview on This Morning, he revealed: "He really ramps up the pressure... but he'll get his comeuppance - there'll be justice at some point."
Host Phillip Schofield said: "The trouble is, when people turn really, really nasty, they generally end up dead!"
Bisson then hinted that won't be happening anytime soon: "That is a bit worrying actually… But I've just signed a year contract!"
He added that he enjoys playing a villain and his storyline is set to get very dark: "This is only the beginning of Jai's nastiness, it ramps up a lot from here. It gets darker and darker."
The actor announced yesterday (June 10) that he is going to be a father for the second time with his partner Rowena Finn.

Jai Sharma's luck finally starts to run out on Emmerdale next week when his latest steamy moment with Leyla Harding is caught on camera.
The cheating businessman continues his affair in full view of a 'teddycam' that he has planted to spy on Rachel Breckle - a mistake that will surely come back to haunt him when Rachel gets her hands on the incriminating footage and tips off his wife Megan.
Here, Chris Bisson - who plays Jai - gives his reaction to the latest twist in Jai and Rachel's custody war.
Why is Jai so determined to get full custody of Archie?
"I think Jai wants to believe that Rachel is a really bad mother, so he's exaggerating everything that happens in his own mind. It suits his case and his agenda to believe that. Clearly Archie has already ended up with a plaster-cast on because he broke his arm in Rachel's care and Jai was the last one to find out. That has really wound him up because he should have been told as soon as it happened."
How does Jai react next week when Rachel tells him that Archie has been ill?
"It's another opportunity for Jai to keep pressing Rachel's buttons. In his own mind, he embellishes the truth again. Jai misinterprets what Rachel says, so he decides that Archie is on death's door and she's not doing anything about it!
"He tries to make himself look like the caring dad by getting the doctor to visit the house. He's always trying to strengthen his case and he'll do anything to undermine Rachel."
Jai also spots a cosy moment between Sam and Tracy at the café. Does he suspect something is going on between them?
"It certainly looks like a close moment, but again it's just an opportunity for Jai. He drops it into the conversation just before he walks into mediation with Rachel, knowing that it will ruffle her feathers.
"It seemingly backfires because I think Rachel has started to get a little bit wise to Jai at this point! She takes the initiative and proposes to Sam, making out that she thinks everything is alright.
"Clearly things aren't alright and Jai knows this. Rachel and Sam are hiding it, but there have been problems between them. Even though he's trying to undermine Rachel, Jai definitely feels isolated and he feels like people aren't telling him the truth. There are a lot of things that have been hidden from him lately."
It's also fair to say that Jai genuinely loves Archie.
"Definitely. He wants Archie to live with him and he knows that Rachel and Sam's relationship is unstable - he just can't prove it! They're hiding it, but the audience can see that it's true."
Why does Jai ask Leyla to spy on Rachel for him?
"The mediation session doesn't go particularly well and Jai still has his suspicions. He asks Leyla to go and befriend Rachel, suggesting that maybe she could offer her some free wedding advice.
"Leyla agrees but when she goes round, Rachel and Sam are in the middle of an argument. Leyla relays to Jai that Archie was crying, while Rachel was holding him and apologising. That's a very worrying thing for Jai to hear, given that Archie has already had his arm broken.
"By that point, Jai is getting very suspicious and uptight about the whole situation and he's worrying about his son."
How does the secret camera come into play?
"It's actually Leyla's idea. She comes up with the idea of hiding a camera in a teddy bear. It's a clever idea, because you can't really tell that there's anything in it. Jai plants it to try and get some evidence - it's some eyes and ears inside the house to find out if anything is happening to Archie. Jai knows that unless he can prove it, he doesn't have a case.
"What Jai suspects is partly true, but it's domestic violence between Rachel and Sam - it's not against Archie."
Unfortunately, the teddycam soon backfires on Jai!
"Yes, it's a classic soap storyline and we have to suspend the disbelief that Jai would be stupid enough to leave the teddy bear on when he's cavorting with Leyla! (Laughs.) But he does and he gets caught. People find out about the affair and there are going to be ramifications..."

Emmerdale star Chris Bisson has revealed how he discovered the sex of his baby on his 40th birthday.
The actor, who is known for his role as businessman Jai Sharma, will welcome a daughter with his partner Rowena Finn in December.
The couple are already parents to 2-year old Harry, and Bisson said they were "ecstatic" to discover they were having a girl.
He recalled to Hello magazine: "For the first time I saw our baby's face and she was sleeping with her little hand behind her head, just like Harry and I do.
"When she said, 'You've got a little pink one', we were ecstatic. I'd hoped, deep down, that our second child would be a girl and my wish came true.
"I'm so excited. After Harry was born, I was - and still am - totally besotted with him. I know I'll love my little daughter with all my heart too."
Bisson's daughter will arrive around the same time as his co star Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden's second baby is due. The couple announced their happy news back in June.
Bisson said: "Everyone quipped that there must be something in the water at Emmerdale because my co-stars Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden are also expecting their second baby around the same time as us.
"It's certainly true that there has been a bit of a baby boom at Emmerdale recently. Natalie Anderson gave birth to her son Freddie a few months before we had Harry."
Bisson and Finn previously announced their baby news with a YouTube video which saw their son Harry dressed up as a superhero.

The characters, played by James Hooton and Chris Bisson respectively, come to blows next month over Megan’s pregnancy, resulting in Sam hitting Jai over the head with a doorstop.
With Megan terrified that Jai will find out her secret, Sam realises he already does - and when Jai confronts him, things turn nasty.
Soon, he figures out the baby is his, and when Sam lets slip that Megan is planning on leaving him, they end up in a heated physical brawl.
Jai quickly overpowers Sam and continues to brutally beat him, leading Sam to reach for a nearby door stop and lash out with it.

Emmerdale star Chris Bisson has become a father for the second time.
The actor announced the news on Twitter, revealing that his partner Rowena Finn gave birth to baby girl Ella Rose this morning (December 8).
"Delighted to announce the safe arrival of Ella Rose, our beautiful baby girl," Bisson told his online followers.
The 40-year-old added that he and Finn are "overjoyed" to become parents again.
Bisson and Finn are already parents to their young son Harry, who turns 3 in January.
Finn's second pregnancy was announced in June this year, when Bisson revealed the news via an adorable YouTube video featuring Harry dressed as a superhero.
The couple later revealed that they were expecting a baby girl.
Speaking to Hello in August, Bisson enthused: "I'd hoped, deep down, that our second child would be a girl and my wish came true.
"I'm so excited. After Harry was born, I was - and still am - totally besotted with him. I know I'll love my little daughter with all my heart too."
Bisson's Emmerdale co-stars Charley Webb (Debbie Dingle) and Matthew Wolfenden (David Metcalfe) are also currently expecting their second child together.
Emmerdale's Jai Sharma will be left humiliated next week when his ex-wife Charity Dingle makes a discovery about his date with Carly Hope.
Jai's lack of love life will become quite the talking point among Nicola and Jimmy in future episodes, and they eventually form a challenge to see who can get him a date first.
A smug Nicola decides to resort to slightly dirty tactics in order to win the bet, and forces Carly to have a drink with him.
Although Nicola revels in her success, the same can't be said of the date itself as Carly struggles to stay interested in Jai's boring patter.

When Charity overhears, she takes pleasure in revealing to Jai that Nicola is actually paying an uninterested Carly to have a drink with him, leaving him feeling humiliated.
Not content with leaving it there, Charity proceeds to wind Jai up so much that he eventually snaps at her - just as Megan walks in. Oh dear! Has Jai blown it?
Emmerdale airs these scenes on Thursday, May 12 on ITV.

holly's death looks to bring him close to moira, will more develop between grieving pair
Emmerdale's Jai Sharma is reminded of his dead girlfriend Holly Barton next week when he meets a troublesome newcomer.
Jai is still grieving after the tragic loss of Holly, who suffered a fatal heroin overdose in shocking scenes late last year.
With Jai still struggling over Holly's death and dealing with his own addiction issues too, next week's Emmerdale episodes see him attending an NA meeting at the village hall.
When a young woman called Nell arrives at the meeting, Jai is immediately struck by her resemblance to Holly – as well as how similar the two girls' stories are.
Jai later tries to befriend Nell, but he's soon left kicking himself when he realises that she's managed to snatch his wallet without him realising. Has he underestimated her?
Chris Bisson, who plays Jai, revealed: "Jai is in a bit of a sensitive place at the moment and his feelings about Holly have become heightened again. He's being quite revealing about his own inner thoughts at the NA meeting when Nell first arrives.
"When it's Nell's turn to speak, she has a story that resonates with Jai. It reminds him of Holly's story and there's another reminder because of the way she looks. When you put the two things together, there's definitely something there and a resemblance to Holly.
"Jai talks to Nell after the meeting, but he comes back in and discovers that his wallet has gone. He's clearly upset about it, because he's just been really nice to her! He even gave her his jacket because she was cold, but this is the way she's treated him in response!
"But I think Jai takes it pretty well. He understands Nell's situation and how addicts are. Rather than calling the police, he takes her out for something to eat and he offers her help. By the end of that first meeting, Jai is hopeful that Nell will come back to the next NA meeting so she stays clean."
Jai is honest with Nell when he tells her that she reminds him of someone he wishes he'd helped more in the past.
When Nell then takes this opportunity to reveal that she's staying on a friend's sofa at the moment, Emmerdale fans may be left wondering whether this new character can really be trusted.
Chris added: "I don't think Jai has dealt with his grief over Holly's death. It was a big shock for him. It's not just grief that eats him up, it's guilt too. Although it's clearly not Jai's fault that Holly re-used drugs and passed away, he feels that he could have done more.
"Jai can't over the fact that if anyone should have known what was going on with Holly, it's him because he'd used drugs himself in the past.
"I'm also really glad that we're playing a story with Jai where we see that addiction problems don't just disappear and every day can be a struggle. I think that's important.
"Sometimes we'll do a story where all of the characters move on afterwards, but this is something that it's not easy to move on from. It certainly will never go away for Jai."

Emmerdale spoilers: Has Nell’s secret plan against Jai Sharma been revealed?
Jai Sharma has found himself pulled into the troubled world of newcomer Nell recently after meeting her at an NA meeting and reaching out to her in Emmerdale having found himself reminded strongly of the late Holly Barton.
But fans are already speculating that Nell could well be conning an oblivious Jai after reading the recent newspaper interview he did alongside Moira about Holly’s tragedy. Is Nell deliberately trying to pass herself off as a likeness to Holly to lure Jai into a trap?
When Nell pointedly said that she sees her late gran in other people and it is like receiving messages from the person she lost, Jai was overwhelmed after looking into her eyes and seeing Holly – and alarm bells were ringing for viewers. Is Jai about to be conned?
In upcoming scenes, Rakesh Kotecha will become concerned for Jai as he continues to try and help Nell as her problems escalate. Feeling that he was unable to help Holly, Jai wants to do everything he can to be there for Nell and not make the same mistake again.
So blinded by his guilt over what happened to Holly, will Jai ignore Rakesh’s warnings and fall into a sinister trap?
Or is Nell actually genuine?
Emmerdale producer Iain MacLeod has revealed that Jai Sharma will fall for his new friend Nell in the coming weeks.
Jai (Chris Bisson) was shocked to meet Nell at an NA meeting last week, immediately noticing how similar she looks to his late girlfriend Holly Barton.
Nell's story is also remarkably similar to Holly's, although some fans have expressed their suspicions that all isn't as it seems – and we'll soon see that not everybody in the village trusts her either.
Speaking to Digital Spy about the Nell storyline, Iain explained: "I can't say too much, but to Jai, she is a promise of redemption and a chance to do again what he didn't do right by Holly.
"The question becomes – does he fall for her because he is falling for her, or is it because he is trying to turn her into Holly? Or is she becoming Holly in his imagination?
"It's just a story about him trying to find redemption with somebody who reminds him of a lost love. Some of the stuff is really poignant.
"It felt like unfinished business for Jai when Holly died, as I don't think anyone really knew he was even with her at the time. It felt right to revisit that and give him a second shot of happiness, I suppose."
When Nell made her first appearance last week and revealed her story, some suspicious Emmerdale fans suggested that she'd read about Holly in the paper and was mimicking her story to con Jai.
Others also speculated that she could have been the one to supply Holly with the drugs that killed her last year.
All of the fan theories are certainly intriguing, but could Nell genuinely be in need of Jai's help? Only time will tell...

Emmerdale stars Chris Bisson and Scarlett Archer have hinted that there could be trouble ahead for Jai's controversial relationship with newcomer Nell Fairfax.
Jai has recently become romantically involved with troubled Nell – who bears a striking resemblance to his late girlfriend Holly Barton. But some fans have speculated that Nell isn't all she seems, and could even be cruelly conning Jai for cash by using a fake sob story
Appearing together on Lorraine today (May 17), Chris and Scarlett – who play Jai and Nell respectively – shared their thoughts on the mysterious storyline.
When asked if Jai was heading for disaster, Chris said: "Yes. The characters have come together because of what's happened to them in the past, but the audience are thinking that there is going to be trouble ahead."
Scarlett added: "Nell is very troubled and it doesn't look the best when you put them on paper. She is trying. It's difficult for her and she has to contend with Jai's family.
"Priya is protective of Jai and there is a lot of hostility there. It's difficult for her to come into this environment."
Scarlett – who is a world away from her dark alter ego in real life – also discussed her delight in landing her first big acting break in Emmerdale.
"It feels like a bit of a dream at the moment," she said. "I need someone to pinch me. When I was working before, I was taking a few days out to film something and then going back to my day job.
"This has been the first job where I have been able to quit working as a waitress, so that's been amazing. No-one really talks about how much rejection you face as an actor. You have to develop a very thick skin."

I always considered Holly was a poor actress but Nell is even worse. She over acts and it appears very false. I hope she isn't around for very long.

I agree why didn't Rishi simply go down as his dad.? No need for adoption. I suppose it depends on how far gone she was.

Well, I'm super disappointed in Jai, but I'm glad that he's not a killer. Still, his Dan Woodhouse-like moves were very disturbing and I really dislike his cheating his cousin either.

Personally I think Amit got everything he deserved, he killed Rishi to get the full inheritance.

I wouldn't think Jai would pay of Amit's loan shark, why would he nothing to do with him, let Amit worry about them.

Emmerdale's Jai Sharma is set to take revenge on Eric Pollard.
It's been a tough few months for Jai after his biological father Amit arrived in the village last year.
In March, Jai teamed up with Eric to prove that Amit must have had a hand in Rishi Sharma's tragic death last year. After a tense confrontation, Amit eventually admitted that he'd killed Rishi to get his hands on the family inheritance.
Months after Amit's departure, Eric began blackmailing Jai by repeatedly demanding free food and drink at The Hide in return for his silence.
Jai's troubles were heightened further when he broke up with his wife Laurel Thomas earlier this month. The couple's split comes after their recent rows over Amit's departure and Jai's betrayal of his half-brother Suni.
In scenes set to air next week, Laurel and Jai's split continues to upset both households. After initially being in denial over Laurel's decision to end things, Jai is forced to accept that it's over between them.
In the hope of making himself feel better, a bitter Jai decides to expose his recent schemes with Eric to a disappointed Brenda and Rodney.
How will Eric feel after Jai exposes the truth?
Jai actor Chris Bisson spoke earlier this year about the re-emergence of his character's dark side following his revenge on Amit.
"[This] has changed something inside him, and going forward the way he views life and people and relationships may well be affected. Certainly, the way he treats business will probably be affected too," he said.
"I think he is going to become a bit more ruthless. He feels he has been taken for a bit of a fool, and he feels like that is never going to happen again. So yes, maybe Bad Jai is back!"
