The new series of Miranda, a festive special of The Royle Family and David Attenborough's latest Africa project headline BBC One's Christmas season this year.

Other festive highlights include the Christmas and New Year specials of Top of the Pops, an Olympics-themed version of retro sports entertainment series Superstars and seasonal editions of Call The Midwife, Strictly Come Dancing and previously confirmed Doctor Who episode 'The Snowmen'.

Attenborough's Africa will see the TV icon exploring the vast and diverse continent of Africa as it's never been seen before, using the latest in filming technology, including remote HD cameras and specially built HD starlight-sensitive cameras.

Jessica Raine, Miranda Hart and Pam Ferris return for the Xmas special of Call the Midwife, ahead of the record-breaking ratings hit's full return in January.

Victoria Wood's Loving Miss Hatto is a drama based on an article in the New Yorker magazine about an ordinary couple who manage to pull off the greatest fraud in classical music history.

Mrs Brown's Boys, Miranda and The Royle Family will bring laughter to the Christmas lineup, while the final ever episode of cult hit Merlin is also scheduled to air over the Christmas holidays.

Completing the BBC's Christmas bill is David Walliams adaptation Mr Stink, which stars Hugh Bonneville, Walliams, Sheridan Smith, Johnny Vegas and Pudsey the dog, and William Boyd's drama Restless, which has Hayley Atwell, Rufus Sewell, Michael Gambon, Michelle Dockery and Charlotte Rampling in its cast.

better schedule than itvs imo. be interesting to see how damaged the soaps are this year. emmerdale has been split into two against the dr and strictly. corrie against ctw and ee against da.

interesting to see what comes out on top.

for whats its worth i think corrie and ctw have a similar audience, where as da and ee are possibly different. i think ee could still be the top rated soap but possibly not the top rated show of the day?

the news at 8:30pm will not do itv any favours. having ctw running for 75mins is a master stroke by the beeb.
