No!! Not Tootsie. I hate seeing animals in soaps suffer :( Anyway, I'm looking forward to Bernice coming back. I don't really remember her because I was really young, but from what I've seen on Youtube, she seems like a good character

Bernice is trouble.
hope declan fails to rescue katie village could do without her
Emmerdale's Katie Macey returns home to the village following her honeymoon this evening (November 6), but disaster is just around the corner for the newlywed.
Katie will be at the centre of huge episodes later this month as dramatic scenes see her fall down a mineshaft, which could leave her life hanging in the balance.
Over the next few days, viewers will see Katie's fresh start turn slightly sour as she has more rows with Megan and even falls out with her good friend Gennie.
Katie's new husband Declan (Jason Merrells) is also left furious with her when he discovers that she set up Robbie with the damning CCTV footage a few weeks ago.
The revelation that Katie hasn't been entirely honest with him doesn't sit well with Declan, and leads to significant tension between the couple for quite some time.
However, following one particular argument with her husband, Katie is caught up in a big accident while they are both riding on quad bikes on some of the land near Home Farm.
Declan watches on in horror as Katie falls down a disused mineshaft, but will he be able to rescue his wife? Or is Katie in deep trouble?
More details on the storyline will be revealed later in the month, but Sammy Winward - who plays Katie - has described it as her biggest plot to date…
Emmerdale airs the accident on Thursday, November 22 at 7pm on ITV1.
Meanwhile, Emmerdale will soon air Bernice Blackstock's return scenes as she turns up at The Woolpack unexpectedly.
Arriving back in the village, an emotional Bernice (Samantha Giles) tries to compose herself before going through the pub's back door.
Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) is shocked by her daughter's sudden reappearance, especially when she breaks down in tears and admits that her marriage is in big trouble. It later emerges that Bernice has been having an affair…

Bernice's ex-husband Ashley (John Middleton) is also stunned by her arrival and is sceptical over her intentions, declaring that he knows she isn't back due to any maternal instinct towards their daughter Gabby.
Fearful of Gabby enduring any more disruption to her life, Ashley and Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) try to talk to Bernice about setting some ground rules where the youngster is concerned. However, Bernice says that she has no idea how long she'll be staying and won't be taking any lectures from them…

Emmerdale airs these scenes on Tuesday, November 20 and Wednesday, November 21 at 7pm on ITV1.
Emmerdale's Declan Macey is left distraught next week as his new wife Katie falls down a mineshaft just moments after a furious row with him.
The couple clash bitterly at Home Farm in the coming days, and when Declan heads off on a quad bike for some time alone, it sparks a terrible chain of events as Katie (Sammy Winward) climbs on another one to follow him.
While the pair are both out on the bikes, disaster strikes for Katie when she falls - quad and all - down a disused mine. Declan tries his best to rescue her, but when his efforts make the situation worse, things look incredibly bleak…
Here, Jason Merrells - who plays Declan - answers some quickfire questions about the storyline.
Is Declan's marriage to Katie already in trouble?
"Well, there's a worm that has got into Declan's head now! It's about Katie lying to him over the whole Robbie situation and how she set him up to get rid of him. Even though what Robbie did was way beyond the pale, Declan has become a little bit fixated on the fact that Katie was dishonest.
"In a silly way, Declan had held Katie up as an icon of virtue, but now things have gone wrong and he's worrying that he can't trust her. Personally, I think it's a bit of a storm in a teacup, but like men can do sometimes, Declan runs away with it. He gets himself into a bigger argument than he intended, and it spirals out of control..."
Is that how the mineshaft storyline comes about?
"Yes, Declan has been having another argument with Katie when he goes off on a quad bike. Basically, he storms out and goes off! Katie follows him on another bike and it all stems from there, building up to the moment where she falls into the mineshaft."

How was the storyline filmed?
"There were lots of different set-ups, so the team had to be quite clever about it. They dug a hole out on-location for the exterior scenes, and then we had the interior of the mine in the studio, which looked amazing. So it was all filmed in different stages and put together.
"Some bits weren't exactly as they seemed - we had to fake the depth of the mine at certain points, and pretend that the ground was uneven when really it wasn't, because to build an entire mineshaft would have been out of the question! We did our best and I think it will look really good on screen."
Were you blessed with good weather for the outdoor scenes?
"It was actually really tough! It reminded me of the John Barton stunt that we did in winter, except that it wasn't minus five temperatures for this one! The conditions were tough, but I think that brings us together as a team."
How does Declan react after the accident?
"Declan is absolutely in bits - he's a complete mess. He realises that he was being silly by arguing so much with Katie, and now he could have lost her completely. He goes into a meltdown about it."
Katie shouts up to Declan that he shouldn't leave her alone, but that's exactly what he does as he goes to get help. Is that a difficult choice to make?
"I think that's a reasonably good decision that he makes. He feels bad about leaving Katie, but he has to do something because he has no phone.
"You'll see that Declan runs to the nearest farm, which is Moira's farm, and he gets a tractor to help rescue Katie himself. What he's doing is pretty logical and it's what most rescue teams would do - get a rope down there and tow her out.

© ITV
"Unfortunately, Declan pulls the tractor too near the hole and there's a further collapse, which causes Katie to fall a bit deeper. So he feels even more guilty after that, because he's made things ten times worse…"
What happens next?
"You'll see that things get very dark for Declan. Katie falls so far down that she disappears and they can't hear her anymore. In the end, there comes a point where the official rescue teams begin to slow down - they're starting to phase out the attempts to save Katie.
"Declan has very intense emotions - he just thinks that he's killed Katie. He spirals downwards into self-hatred as a result…
Monday

Later in the Woolpack, Charity riles Cain as she accuses him of letting Cameron off the hook too easily. Desperate for revenge, Cain assures Charity that Cameron is only making what will come to him even worse.
Over at the hospital, the nurse enters Sarah's room with the colouring book from an 'anonymous' well wisher and Debbie is touched, unaware of who it's from. Later, Jimmy is worried when Charity collects her files, telling him that she's taking her contracts with her and his business will fail without her. Jimmy feels burdened when Nicola tells him that he hasn't got much of a choice but to get Charity to agree to a deal that suits everyone. He is then left angry when a client wants to work with Charity, not him.
As the day continues, a triumphant Charity makes a deal with Jimmy - they split the business 50/50. Jimmy is left wondering if he's done the right thing.
Elsewhere, Paddy and Rhona are interviewing for a new vet, but are not hopeful about the applications. Brett arrives late for his interview and Paddy feels threatened when the newcomer steps in to help out at the busy surgery. Rhona offers Brett the job, wanting him to start tomorrow. Paddy can't think of a reasonable objection.
Also today, Zak's visit to his psychiatrist leaves him feeling positive about how things are going, while Edna is worried about Tootsie's health and her finances.
Wednesday
t The Woolpack, Bernice is quick to slam down the phone when Ashley appears, and she is sheepish when he comments that he knows she is not back in the village because of her maternal instincts. Soon afterwards in the café, Bernice is catty towards Nicola and Laurel. Diane and Rodney are saddened but not surprised when Bernice tells them that her marriage is over and that's why she is back.
Later, Laurel and Ashley try to talk to Bernice about setting some ground rules where Gabby is concerned. However, Bernice says that she has no idea how long she'll be staying and won't take lectures from them. Diane tries to read Bernice as she enjoys herself, drinking champagne with Charity - but it's clear that Bernice is pondering her hidden agenda as she makes another discreet phone call…
Meanwhile, Pearl has made an extra effort for Brett's first day at the vet surgery. Paddy tries to find fault in the new recruit, but fails. Rhona takes Brett back for lunch and Paddy has little choice but to let him stay with them until he gets a place sorted. Paddy is miserable as he tells Marlon about the new vet, whom he can't live up to. Marlon is stumped and can't think of what to say to make him feel better.
Later, Paddy is bolstered when Brett tells him that he is a tough act to follow, but he soon realises he is being patronised. He's not thrilled when Brett comes home later and offers to cook for them. However, Rhona is too tired to deal with Paddy's insecurities.
Elsewhere, Katie is insecure and worried about the state of her marriage, while Charity signs the papers for the business deal and Jimmy lays down the ground rules before he signs himself, worrying about what he is letting himself in for.
Thursday
Katie turns down Declan's plan to have the day off, wanting things to get back to normal. She then visits Gennie wanting to make up, but Gennie is not in the mood. Soon afterwards, Nikhil is concerned about Declan's mood as he wants him to play pinball and have a drink with him, needing a break now the hard work is out of the way. Katie overhears Declan voicing his concerns to Nikhil about Katie having lied to him, which leads to an argument between the couple.
Declan tells Katie that he thought she was different and wonders why she married him as she knew what he was like. Outside Home Farm, Katie tries to talk to Declan as he revs up the quad, but he drives off. Katie climbs on another one and tears after him, not fastening the strap of the helmet. She catches up with her husband and confronts him, but he speeds off again and she is forced to give chase.
In the end, Declan's quad runs out of petrol, but Katie bitterly heads back on hers, leaving him to walk. Declan is shocked and horrified when Katie crashes the quad and falls - quad and all - down a disused mineshaft.
Meanwhile, Laurel feels pushed out as Gabby is back from her trip and seems excited about seeing Bernice. Ashley warns Bernice about making false promises to Gabby. Ashley also tells Laurel that he won't let Bernice upset things with Gabby. Diane is determined to find out what is going on with Bernice. Soon afterwards, Bernice is silenced when Diane confronts her about having an affair and leaving her daughter behind, saying that she has ruined everything again.
Elsewhere, Brett asks about Paddy's canoe and Paddy can't resist mentioning a 'good' stretch of river to use it on, while Jimmy feels guilty as Charity disproves his misgivings about working together.
At the mineshaft, Declan tries to get to Katie, but the ground starts to crumble away. He tries to reach her by taking his shirt off and throwing it to her, but she loses her grip and falls backwards deeper down into the hole. Declan screams out to her and we see her face is bruised and partially buried. Katie starts to come round and sees she is at the edge of the ledge as more of the ground falls onto her. Katie pleads with Declan to stay with her and he is torn between remaining there or going for help.
Over at Home Farm, Nicola can't get through to the absent Declan as he has left his phone behind in the sitting room. Sam suggests to Nicola that she could try calling Katie's phone, but it falls off the ledge as Katie tries to reach for it. Declan makes the decision to go for help, trying to shut out Katie's pleas as he runs…
Meanwhile, Bernice decides to tell Diane and Rodney the full story about her affair with a man named Steve, and Diane thinks she is a fool. Diane offers her a brandy but quickly takes it back when she realises that Bernice is with Steve because he has money.
Soon afterwards in the café, Gabby arrives and tells Laurel that Bernice and Diane were arguing, so she left. Gabby enjoys spending time with Laurel, but Ashley dreads having to deal with Bernice as he takes her back. Diane senses trouble brewing as Ashley wants a word with Bernice and she feels caught in the middle as the former couple argue, with Bernice walking out in tears.
Elsewhere, Edna wants advice about Tootise and Brett is more than happy to oblige, while Ali asks Rishi if they're looking for a replacement sales manager.
Friday
Declan runs into a field where Moira is and asks her to call the emergency services. He wants her and Andy to come with the tractor to try to get Katie out, but Moira is not convinced it's a good idea. They try to feed some rope into the mineshaft, but end up moving the tractor too close and it caves in, resulting in Katie falling down into the black hole below. We see her lying unconscious while the others listen for any sound, horrified by the deadly silence.
Declan tries to justify his actions of trying to get Katie out as they hear the sirens in the distance. Knowing he has made things worse, Declan feels guilty as he tries to speed up the rescue work and is told it may take some time. Down the hole, Katie stirs and screams to Declan, but there is no answer and she realises just how lost she is…
Meanwhile, Rhona and Paddy discuss Brett's popularity. Paddy is ashamed when Brett catches him mimicking him and tries to apologise, but Brett doesn't take any nonsense. The trio then receive the news Tootsie might have cancer and Paddy feels silly for mocking and questioning Brett's methods.
Brett wants to tell Edna the sad news but Paddy gets in there first, much to the disdain of the other two. Brett later decides it isn't working at the vets and tells Rhona and Paddy that he is leaving. Rhona wants Paddy to sort it out and Paddy is aware he has made a mess of the situation.
Elsewhere, Gabby is pleased to hear that Bernice, Ashley and Diane will go to her assembly as a family. Bernice is determined to make things work and turns on the charm with Diane as she helps behind the bar. Diane then prepares to tell Ashley why Bernice is really back.
Also today, Bob sees Ali is struggling with her reading and comes up with an idea to use karaoke, but it backfires when Dan laughs at her singing.
Emmerdale newlywed Katie Macey faces a terrible ordeal in the coming days as she falls down a mineshaft and is left battling to save her life.
Terrified and in severe pain deep down in the mine, Katie is forced to crawl her way through a tunnel in a desperate bid to escape as her chances of rescue are looking bleak. Will she ever see husband Declan again?
Here, Sammy Winward - who plays Katie - reveals the full details of what fans can expect from the dramatic storyline.
How frightened is Katie after the fall?
"She's terrified! Just before she falls down the mineshaft, she's had a huge argument with Declan. Even though they've only just got married, he's not sure how he feels about her anymore and vice versa. So Katie is already feeling horrendous about that when she falls down the mineshaft.
"At first, Katie thinks there's a possibility of getting out because Declan throws a rope down and also tries to pull her up with his coat. But Declan's attempts to rescue her don't work and then she actually falls deep down into the mine. After that, Katie realises that she doesn't have much hope of getting out unless she takes action herself."
How bad are Katie's injuries?
"Her injuries are really bad. The first time she falls, she knocks herself out and ends up with head injuries. When she falls for the second time, it's quite a big fall and she shatters her pelvis. That means she can't walk and she basically feels like she's been split in two."
Can she hear the rescuers up above?
"Initially Katie can hear Declan, Andy and Moira who are trying to rescue her - that's when she's on the first ledge. She can't see them, it's just hearing their voices because she's already deep down in the mine. It's when she falls down again that she can't see or hear anybody."
How do things progress from there?
"Initially Katie has a source of light because the quad bike she was riding on at the time of the accident has also fallen down into the mine and its headlights are on. But then the battery goes out and Katie is left in darkness. The only source of light she has after that is her phone. She's hoping desperately that she's going to have a signal, but unfortunately she doesn't."
Katie decides to make her way through a tunnel rather than staying in one place to be rescued. Why is that?
"Well, she's lying on the floor but then debris starts to fall from above, so she knows that she has to move. Because of her injuries, she has to crawl through the tunnel using her arms to pull herself forward. She's in absolutely excruciating pain, and to make matters worse she's crawling over debris and barbed wire. But she knows that she has to do it to get out.
"It's pretty much the tunnel from there on in and she's continuously crawling from that point forward. From then on, what's behind her is blocked anyway so she has to keep going forward."
What are the conditions like?
"She's crawling along in mud and water, and there's blood everywhere. It's horrendous! She gets her leg hurt on the barbed wire, screams out in pain and has to rip her shirt to stop the bleeding herself. She's also freezing cold because of the water.
"Because it's pitch black, Katie has no idea how long she's been down there for. She definitely loses a sense of time."
What was the storyline like to film?
"Most of the scenes were filmed at our studios in Leeds on a purpose-built set. They built three different parts for the scenes I had to do - there was the initial drop where Katie falls, the part where she has to lie with a shattered pelvis, and then the third bit was the tunnel. So it was fantastic, really! It was an amazing design and it's definitely the most dramatic storyline that I've done."
Did you have to get really dirty during filming?
"Oh my God, like you wouldn't believe! I've never felt so grotty in all my life. I had four layers of clothing on, including a wet suit. They were sodden and all covered in wet mud. I also had to have gravel rubbed into my hair, wet mud on the top and then dried blood around my face. I was pretty much covered from head to toe.
"I was filming the scenes for three or four days, and they didn't want me to wash my hair or clean my nails at the end of each day as they wanted to make it look realistic."
Did the poor conditions make it easy to identify with Katie?
"On the last day in the tunnel, absolutely - it was freezing cold. We did have heaters and they gave me hot water bottles, but it was so difficult to get in and out of the clothes that I just had to stay in the wet clothes the whole time. The water being pumped in to the tunnel was freezing."
Back in the village, a candlelit vigil is behind held for Katie at The Woolpack. How would she feel if she knew that?
"I don't know how anyone would feel about that! On one hand it's lovely, but I don't think she'd want people to have given up on her. Megan has returned to the village to support Declan and she's actually the one who says that people shouldn't be giving up on Katie. She's the last person that you'd expect to say that."
Does Katie have time to reflect on the row she had with Declan?
"Yeah, definitely. She drifts in and out of consciousness, and there's certainly parts where she thinks she is going to die. She has a lot of time down there to think about what's important to her and everything that's happened recently.
"I don't think Katie feels that she did anything too wrong, but she does understand that the arguments have led to horrendous consequences and she's definitely regretting that."
Is there any hope for Katie?
"Well, she actually gives up at one point. Her phone battery goes and it's pitch black, so she drifts out of consciousness again. When she wakes up, she sees a patch of morning light so she decides to make her last effort to get out. That gives her some hope, but you'll have to tune in to see how things turn out!"

Emmerdale's Ashley Thomas is surprised to discover that ex-wife Bernice Blackstock is back in the village this evening (November 20).
Tonight's episode sees Bernice (Samantha Giles) turn up at The Woolpack unexpectedly, tearfully telling mum Diane that her marriage is crumbling and she may not be able to make things work.
Soon afterwards, as Diane gets back to work behind the bar, Ashley (John Middleton) walks into the pub's back room and is stunned to find Bernice there.
Ashley is both cautious and inquisitive over Bernice's sudden reappearance, fearful of the impact on their daughter Gabby when she returns from her school trip in Paris.
However, Bernice shows that she's in no mood to explain herself when she brushes off Ashley's questions, telling him that she has no idea how long she'll be staying for…

Emmerdale airs tonight at 7pm on ITV1.
Emmerdale star Sammy Winward has admitted that she doesn't want her young daughter to watch her character's upcoming accident storyline.
The actress's alter ego Katie Macey has a horrendous ordeal ahead in upcoming episodes as she falls down a mineshaft and is left trapped for days.
Speaking on Daybreak this morning (November 22), Winward confessed that she may ban her 7-year-old daughter Mia from watching the storyline, which includes scenes of Katie trying to make her escape by crawling through a tunnel in excruciating pain.
Winward explained: "I don't know what I'm going to do about this. She'll probably badger me into watching it - she won't listen to me at all! But I think it's a bit much. Tonight might be okay, but tomorrow's episode, no! I think that'll be too much for her - it gets a bit too much."
On watching the episodes herself, she said: "I haven't seen it put together yet, so tonight's going to be my first viewing as well."
Winward, who joined Emmerdale in 2001, added that she is still delighted to be working at the soap.
She said: "I've been there about 11 years now. [It's been] very eventful. But they keep finding things for her to do, which is great.
"I absolutely love it, it's a great, great place to work. I've got all my best friends there, and the cast and crew are awesome."
The 27-year-old also joked that Katie is lucky her mineshaft fall didn't take place before her wedding last month.
She laughed: "Usually something happens on the day of the wedding, so she was given a few weeks which in soapland [is actually] a great marriage!"
Emmerdale airs Katie's mineshaft drama tonight (November 22) at 7pm and 8pm on ITV1.

I'm not watching these episodes.. I can barely watch when she's in small scenes, but when she's hugely involved I never watch it

This was my first thought when I read about the storyline. What a great way to get rid of a terrible character, but I think she will survive and be stuck in a wheelchair and a loveless marriage. Maybe Declan will hook up with Chas when she's released or Bernice. He could do with some fun in his life.
