Neighbours fans were originally introduced to Carmel in 2002, when she helped to track down Susan after the popular character had gone missing while suffering from amnesia.

This time around, viewers can expect to see Susan and Carmel's relationship tested as their strong personalities lead to some clashes. Things later become even more complicated when they both fall for the same man.

Child, confirming her return, commented: "It's been great fun to be back and wonderful to work with some familiar faces, and also lots of new and very talented young actors."

Carmel's return scenes air in November in Australia and a month later for UK audiences.

Neighbours returnee Kirsty Child has confirmed that her character Carmel Tyler will set her sights on Karl Kennedy when she arrives back in Erinsborough.

Carmel is heading to Ramsay Street to visit her sister Susan (Jackie Woodburne), and will be sticking around for a two-month guest stint.

Having recently separated from her husband, Carmel is looking for love again - and her search soon leads her to Susan's ex-partner.

Child told TV Week: "Carmel just breezes in and thinks she'll come and stay with Susan to start a new life in Erinsborough. She gives Susan a little bit of a shock, and not an entirely pleasant one!

"Carmel is very outgoing and I don't think she's entirely sensitive to the feelings of others. She's also very keen to find a man and wants Susan to join her on a manhunt."

When Carmel heads to a speed-dating night with Susan, she is intrigued to find Karl (Alan Fletcher) among the other participants.

Child added: "[Carmel] thinks, 'Well Karl is a very eligible man with everything a woman could desire'. Karl, being a very friendly person and quite naïve in a way, doesn't realise Carmel is interested in him at this point."

Earlier this year, show bosses teased that Carmel and Susan would "both fall for the same man" in their new storyline - which could mean that Susan's feelings for Karl are set to be reignited.

Neighbours airs these scenes next week on Eleven in Australia, and in December on Channel 5 in the UK.
