Marc Elliott and John Partridge are to leave EastEnders, it has been announced. :crying:

The duo, who play lovers Syed Masood and Christian Clarke, will be written out of the BBC soap in November in a dramatic storyline currently being kept under wraps, reports The Mirror.

Executive producer Lorraine Newman explained: "Marc and John have been a fantastic part of the show and their characters have been a huge success.

"Their storylines have broken boundaries that have not been seen in a soap before and the love for them by the viewers can be seen in their 'Chryed' fans.

"When Marc announced he had decided to move on, we had a tough decision to make. After numerous conversations, which included John, it was decided that there is only one outcome for Syed and Christian.

"We wish them both all the best for the future."

Elliott, who joined the series in 2009, said: "I have had a brilliant time on EastEnders and made some amazing friends. I have also been blessed with some incredible storylines.

"I am especially pleased that the show has tackled and raised awareness of the sensitive subject of being a gay Muslim."

He went on to say: "As an actor you are always looking for new challenges and I feel now is the right time to explore different projects - perhaps returning to my roots in theatre."

Partridge, who first appeared as Christian in 2008, added: "I have had the time of my life at EastEnders, but I have always gone with my instincts - and leaving at the same time as Marc felt like the only thing to do.

"It is the right end to the story and for Christian. But, excitingly, it is also the start of a whole new chapter for me."

Earlier this week, Masood Ahmed actor Nitin Ganatra teased that Syed would return to the "dodgy dealings" of his younger days in a future storyline.

Meanwhile, EastEnders newcomer Gary Lucy's character Danny Pennant is rumoured to be involved in a love triangle with Syed and Christian when he arrives in Walford.

It's very bittersweet news, I love Christian & Syed and their love story but I am sick of the way they've been treated by the Eastenders bosses, they've been criminally underused for the best part of 2 years now. I really respect Marc Elliott for deciding to leave, I am sure it was soul destroying been given nothing substantial to do for months on end. He is a talented actor and I wish him great success in the future. I am glad John Partridge decided to leave at the same time as Marc, I just hope we get a happily ever after. I doubt I'll watch the show after November, I only started watching again for Chryed and apart from Ian and Zainab at the moment, I really couldn't care less. Maybe one day tptb who wasted the potential of two great characters and actors will realize what they've lost and when they do I hope both ME & JP are enjoying success where their talents are appreciated.

Off the top of my head, I think they might run off with Jasmine. Really sad to see them go, but rather impressed with John Partridge saying he'd go too, suggests he does care about the character and their storylines and isn't just going to stay on for the sake of it.

EastEnders stars Nitin Ganatra, Nina Wadia and Phaldut Sharma have promised that the upcoming exit of Syed and Christian will be "particularly special".

It was announced last week that Marc Elliott and John Partridge are to leave the BBC soap, with their final appearances taking place in November.

Speaking to Digital Spy at the TV Choice Awards last night (September 10), the trio said that saying goodbye would be "very painful" for both themselves and the Masoods.

"Of course we're going to miss them, yeah," Ganatra said. "We've become such a big family unit anyway and to see the family split up like that it's going to be very painful.

"We all get along so well and we have a lot of fun together, so yes it's going to be sad to see them go."

Sharma jested: "I've just arrived [as] the guys left, so I've taken it quite personal."

Confirming that Syed and Christian's exit storyline is currently being filmed, an emotional Wadia added: "There's happiness, there's sadness... it's a particularly special exit."

Ganatra also stated that autumn in EastEnders is "going to be pretty Masood-heavy" as Syed's dodgy dealings "lead to another crisis in the household".

"Who knows what's going to happen to the Argee Bhajee?" he joked.

EastEnders star Preeya Kalidas has returned to the soap for a brief guest appearance, Digital Spy can confirm.

The actress is reprising her role as Amira Shah once again before her on-screen ex-partner Syed Masood makes his departure from the show.

Kalidas hinted at Amira's return on Twitter last week, telling fans: "The heels are back and I'm not talking about mine.."

An EastEnders spokesperson confirmed the news to Digital Spy today (September 11), explaining that Amira will be back on screen for a couple of episodes.

The reasons for Amira's return have yet to be revealed, but show bosses have promised plenty more drama for the Masoods in the build-up to Syed's exit.

Amira was last seen in Walford in March, when she left the area after finally realising that Syed would never love her.

Marc Elliott and John Partridge, who play Syed and his lover Christian, announced their EastEnders exits last week and will depart screens in November.

EastEnders star Marc Elliott has landed a West End theatre role after making his departure from the soap.

The actor recently filmed his final scenes as Syed Masood, who will bow out from Walford in November.

Elliott has now been confirmed for an upcoming production of Stephen Belber play Tape at the Trafalgar Studios in Whitehall, London.

Tape is billed as "a high stakes and suspenseful exploration of memory, truth and perception", focusing on the reunion of two high school friends who previously dated the same woman.

Former Hollyoaks actor Darren Bransford (Nick O'Connor) and actress Kate Loustau also appear in the play, which runs from October 10.

When Elliott announced his EastEnders departure last month, he confirmed that he was interested in "returning to my roots in theatre".

The actor is bowing out alongside on-screen partner John Partridge, who plays Christian Clarke.

EastEnders star Marc Elliott has explained his decision to leave his role as Syed Masood.

The actor revealed that he had always planned to spend to spend three years on the BBC soap since joining in 2009.

Speaking to Soaplife, the Walford star acknowledged that he has slightly exceeded his original time scale.

Elliott said: "I always intended to do three years and ended up doing three years and seven months.

"I thought it was time to flex some acting muscles."

The departures of Elliott's character Syed and John Partridge's Christian Clarke were announced in September, and will play out on screen in November.

Syed and Christian wed next Tuesday and will become the first gay couple on a soap to have a civil partnership.

Departing EastEnders star John Partridge has called on bosses to bring in new gay characters.

Partridge's alter ego Christian Clarke, along with boyfriend Syed Masood, will be leaving Albert Square next week.

When asked by Inside Soap about his feelings for the show, the actor declared: "I'll always be an avid fan of the show.

"They should bring in some hot new gay guys - out with the old and in with the new."

Of his time with co-star and on-screen lover Marc Elliot, Partridge further gushed: "I've learned so much from Marc - in fact, I said that to him as we were leaving.

"Some of it I liked, some of it I didn't. But we're like brothers, we really are. I've made a friend for life in Marc."

Walford's other gay resident Danny Pennant will also be leaving the Square shortly, as actor Gary Lucy was only signed up for a short stint.

Meanwhile, Ben Mitchell is currently serving time for the murder of Heather Trott.

EastEnders' Syed Masood has one last chance to save his relationship with Christian Clarke in tonight's (November 15) episode of the soap.

With Christian (John Partridge) preparing to leave for America and Syed (Marc Elliott) refusing to speak to him again, Zainab and Lucy are forced to intervene by scheming to get the stubborn pair into the Argee Bhajee and locking them in.

Finally alone, Christian and Syed have a long and honest conversation about their romance and the various problems they've encountered during their time together - which could finally put things into perspective for them.

Later, Syed seems ready to give things another try and races to find Christian, who will shortly be leaving for the airport. Will he be able to track down Christian and salvage their marriage?

EastEnders actor John Partridge has said that the soap needs to have more gay characters.

Partridge played gay personal trainer Christian Clarke for almost five years until he left the soap in November with husband Syed Masood (Marc Elliott).

The actor has spoken of his hopes that the couple's popularity will inspire writers to bring in more homosexual characters.

"We only ever had a positive response from people," he told The Sun.

"It became a love story and the fact that it was two men became immaterial. It really became something that was quite beautiful as opposed to sensational."

He added: "Bring in hot new gays, that's what I say. Everyone needs to be represented - so somebody's got to come flying that pink flag."

John Partridge will appear alongside former EastEnders co-star Nina Wadia in Channel 5's Celebrity Wedding Planner on Friday (January 4).

He will also star in a West End revival of A Chorus Line from early February.
