Little is known about which characters Danny will be interacting with, but show chiefs have teased that the charmer "oozes sex appeal" and has a "compelling charisma".
An EastEnders statement said: "With his irresistible charm and luring persona, Danny is desired and envied by both men and women - girls want to be seen with him and boys want to be him.
"He will inevitably create controversial encounters and his provocative and lustful nature is bound to land him in trouble."
Along with Footballers' Wives, Lucy's previous acting credits include regular roles on The Bill and Hollyoaks.
Danny's first episode will air in September.
The perfect twist to the Kat infidelity tale would be him x

Oh I remember him from Hollyoaks. Lets see how long it take him to have his wicked way (god I am being very polite for a Friday morning!), with the ladies of the Square, with EXPLOSIVE consequences!

why would a City Banker live in Walford? or am i just being naive?
But bring it on, at last someone is thinking of the 30something viewers and not just focussing on "hollyoak" type characters for the kiddies (sorry meant young adults!)
Maybe it's turn for the 30 something viewers to have some adult castings????????????
No doubt this Danny will start the tongues wagging!!
EastEnders newcomer Gary Lucy will play a gay character in Albert Square, it has been reported.
The actor's alter ego Danny Pennant, who arrives in Walford in September, will apparently become involved in a love triangle with Christian and Syed.
A source told The Sun: "All the girls think he's a real ladies' man. But they're soon disappointed when it turns out he's not interested in women.
"He'll ruffle a few feathers and Christian and Syed's relationship will be tested."
Fans could be left to wonder whether Christian and Syed's relationship will break down because of Danny.
An EastEnders spokesperson refused to confirm or deny the rumour, telling Digital Spy: "It's fair to say that Danny is going to cause a few problems for the residents of Walford but viewers will have to tune in and see for themselves as we don't want to spoil the surprise!"
Details of mischievous city banker Danny first emerged at the beginning of the month.
Ex-Footballers' Wives star Lucy has signed up for an initial three months with the BBC soap.
Christian (John Partridge) and Syed (Marc Elliott) have been quiet since their storyline with Amira concluded in March.
let me guess if syed or christian sleeps with him syed's money problems disappear
Gary Lucy has spoken about his "fantastic" new role in EastEnders.
The former Hollyoaks actor will appear in the soap later this week as city banker Danny Pennant.
His character finds himself in a love triangle with Syed (Marc Elliott) and Christian (John Partridge) after meeting Syed at the Argee Bhajee.
"It's been a fantastic couple of weeks, a good storyline and one I thoroughly enjoy," Lucy told The Sun.
Talking about playing a gay character, Lucy said: "It's different for me, a challenge, but one I'm happy to grasp and I'm enjoying.
"It's a fantastic opportunity."
Christian and Syed - who are currently planning their wedding - will be leaving the soap in November as part of a dramatic storyline.
When asked if Danny is the main reason behind their exit, Lucy added: "I don't think it's the real reason that they leave, but I don't think it helps much."
Gary Lucy's first EastEnders scenes will air on Thursday (September 27) on BBC One.

Every time I see this I read it as 'Danny Pregnant'...
EastEnders bosses have announced that Gary Lucy is returning to the soap as a regular cast member.
The actor's charming alter ego Danny Pennant will reappear on screen in June, when he is lured back to Albert Square on business.
Danny was originally introduced to EastEnders as a guest character last year, and his storyline saw him stir up trouble in Walford as he was involved in a love triangle with popular couple Syed Masood and Christian Clarke.
Speaking of his EastEnders return, Lucy commented: "I'm extremely excited to be joining such a fantastic show - one which my family are huge fans of and I grew up watching.
"I enjoyed the little taster last September and am looking forward to exploring my character further, seeing what's in store for him and which characters it will involve."
EastEnders' executive producer Lorraine Newman added: "We are absolutely delighted to reveal that Gary Lucy will be returning to EastEnders. Gary clearly felt at home on the show and his wonderful portrayal of Danny Pennant left us with an intriguing character to explore - it really was only a matter of time before he returned.
"Danny's stories will see him crossing paths with some of our best loved characters, and I am sure the audience will relish in the fact that the complex nature of this character means that nothing is ever simple."
Lucy has previously had roles in Hollyoaks, The Bill and Footballers' Wives

I know what you mean, he was a plot device for Syed, I can't think of any reason for him to come back to the show!
EastEnders fans will see Danny Pennant pay another visit to Walford next week as he attends the grand opening of Ian Beale's new restaurant.
Ian (Adam Woodyatt) is eager to impress city banker Danny, hoping that he might agree to invest in the business.

Ian is introduced to Danny.
When everyone heads outside for the grand unveiling of the restaurant's sign, Ian is stunned to see that the name has been changed from 'Ian Beale @ Le Square' to 'Scarlett's'.
With Ian's scheming investor Janine Butcher responsible for the last-minute change, she advises him to buy her out if he doesn't like it. However, Ian knows that he can only afford to get rid of Janine if Danny agrees to offer up some cash in her place.

Ian is shocked to see the name of the restaurant.
Later, things get even worse for Ian as restaurant waitress Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) accidentally spills drinks all over Danny, having secretly consumed one too many herself.
Ian apologises to Danny and hopes that this hasn't scuppered his chances of an investment. However, Ian is left disappointed when Danny informs him that his job is to find people to invest - and he certainly won't be asking anyone to invest in this restaurant!

EastEnders star Gary Lucy has revealed more hints of Danny Pennant's future in Walford, promising a "softer side" to the character and a new romance.
Show bosses recently confirmed that Danny is heading back to Albert Square as a regular, having originally appeared on screen for a love triangle plot with Christian Clarke and Syed Masood last year.
Lucy added that he was delighted when he heard that the soap's bosses wanted him back.
He explained: "When I left last year, nothing was confirmed regarding a return. It had been talked about, so I was really hoping it would happen. Personally, I thought there was still loads to explore with Danny's character, and it would have been a shame if we hadn't been able to - so now I'm quite looking forward to that.
"Everything I've done so far has been really interesting, and based on the discussions we've had, I reckon we're in for good stuff!"
EastEnders fans see Danny pay another visit to Walford on Friday, June 7. He appears as a regular from July.
EastEnders star Gary Lucy has revealed that his character Danny Pennant will make a bee-line for Janine Butcher.
Viewers will see Danny return to the Walford soap tonight (June 7) as he attends the grand opening of Ian Beale's new restaurant.
Lucy had previously hinted that a new romance could be on the cards for Danny.
Speaking to Kate Garraway on ITV's Lorraine, Lucy said: "He comes in tonight and he makes a bee-line for Charlie Brooks's character Janine.
"I think he sees that she's the one with the money on the Square and there's a little bit of chemistry there. I think he's interested in tapping into her.
"Obviously Masood is from the storyline last year where Danny had a fling with the character Syed, so Masood isn't too pleased to see him."
Lucy also revealed that he was pleased to get the opportunity to return to the show as he felt there was more to explore with Danny.
He said: "We had spoke about it, but there was nothing confirmed. I think it would have been a real shame [if he hadn't] because I felt that it was a great opportunity for me to play such a different kind of character - quite complex.
"I think there was so much more to be explored there, and hopefully over the coming weeks and months, there should be."
EastEnders airs Danny's return to Walford tonight at 8pm on BBC One.

EastEnders star Gary Lucy has said that his character Danny Pennant's sexuality is "complicated".
Danny seems to be taking a big interest in Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) when he returns to Walford next week, which infuriates her estranged husband Michael Moon (Steve John Shepherd).
While Danny's intentions aren't clear, fans know that he was at the centre of a love triangle with Syed Masood and Christian Clarke last year.
Lucy told Soaplife of the new storyline: "When he turned up last time at the restaurant, he picked up on Janine and now he's come back to tell her that he'd like to help her with her investments.
"He's got his eye on Janine. But whether or not that is something that will develop romantically, we'll have to wait and see.
"He isn't what you think he is. That's the great thing about Danny. Nothing is ever as it seems with him. Michael is relieved that Danny's gay, but you never know, he might have that smile wiped off his face. Danny is a complicated character as far as his sexuality goes."
While Danny was initially introduced as a guest last year, he is now a regular character for the soap.
Lucy added: "I've got a long-term contract so I'm around for a while."
EastEnders star Gary Lucy has said that he wants to keep fans guessing about his character's sexuality.
The actor's alter ego Danny Pennant previously had a fling with Syed Masood, but a new storyline sees him trying to charm businesswoman Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks).
Speaking on ITV's This Morning today (July 11), Lucy revealed that Danny's true intentions will remain ambiguous for a few weeks.
Lucy explained: "He's quite complex when it comes to his sexual preference. Last time he was seen, he made a beeline for Janine and realised that she was the one with the money on the Square.
"I think he's quite charming, and as the weeks go on, we learn a little bit more about Danny and what lengths he's willing to go to, to get what he wants. Whether it's a romantic thing or whether it's just purely for his own personal gain remains to be seen."
Asked whether Danny really is gay, he replied: "It's difficult to say at the moment, but as the weeks go on, it becomes clear. I think he's complex, and some might say greedy!"
Viewers will see Janine's estranged husband Michael Moon (Steve John Shepherd) repeatedly try to warn her off Danny. However, Danny is able to stay in control of the situation.
Lucy added: "I think he's quite easy to adapt to any situation and he's quite charming and confident in himself, in both ways - in his sexuality and his business mind. At the beginning it's quite a fun relationship and Janine thinks that he's going to introduce her to a lot of rich city boys.
"I think with him, nothing is as it seems. At the beginning at least, you're always left guessing about what he's thinking and what he's up to at any time."
EastEnders continues tonight (July 11) at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Gary Lucy as Danny Pennant in EastEnders
Earlier this month, Lucy urged critics to "get with the times" after EastEnders received complaints about his character's on-screen kiss with newcomer Johnny Carter (Sam Strike).
He added: "Reaction was, on the most part, positive. There were a few on Twitter still living in the dark ages but on the whole, people were okay.
"I got one message on the internet from a guy saying, 'Thanks for that storyline because it gave me the courage to come out and tell my parents'. If you can do that, you as an actor and the show has done its job."

I don't think the writers knew whether to make him a villain or a goodie as he seemed to show some heart and emotion in his scenes with Lucy and then the opposite as a sleazebag chasing Syed and Johnny
