Neighbours bosses have released new details and pictures of the upcoming car crash storyline featuring the soap's teen characters.

As first revealed a few days ago, disaster will strike for Sophie Ramsay, Andrew Robinson, Tash Williams, Chris Pappas, Summer Hoyland and Ed Lee in the coming weeks as they are involved in a terrifying road accident.

Show chiefs are hoping that the story will help to raise awareness of two major dangers for young drivers - distraction and overloading cars.

Neighbours' executive producer Richard Jasek commented: "When we were plotting the story, we were staggered to learn how common it is for young drivers to be coerced into taking more passengers than legally allowed and are then so easily distracted.

"Ironically the character who is driving is the most responsible of all our teens, but succumbs to pressure to allow one too many passengers.

"It is one of those decisions that at the time seems quite harmless because they're not travelling very far, but like real life situations, distance has nothing to do with it."

The cast and crew of Neighbours filmed the dramatic scenes earlier this year, and are promising that the repercussions of the accident will last for quite some time.

Neighbours fans in Australia will see the storyline begin on August 20. The scenes air in the UK from September 17.

When Paul forbids her from going to a gig, Sophie rebels and sneaks out in the boot of Chris’ car. Then later the reveal of Andrew’s betrayal has devastating consequences.

Tuesday 21st August
On his way to pick up Vanessa for their long-awaited trip, Rhys comes across an incident that could drastically affect his trip to Japan; later Tash is confronted by her feelings for Ed.

Wednesday 22nd August
Chris blames himself for the crash, refusing to fight back against Paul; Andrews not surprised when Tash vents her fury at him for lying about the casino group and blames him for the crash.

Thursday 23rd August
Paul pulls a big contract - reminding Lucas of exactly how much he has to lose; meanwhile Toadie and Sonya disagree about whether they’d like to learn their baby’s sex.

Friday 24th August
As Lucas debates whether or not to accept Chris’ resignation, isolated Chris goes to visit Sophie; meanwhile after the crash, Summer struggles to hide what she’s going through.

Neighbours' Kapoor family secure a permanent place on Ramsay Street on UK screens later this month as Ajay makes a shock bid for Number 24.

Ajay (Sachin Joab) suffers a setback in the coming days when he loses the local council election thanks to his nemesis Paul Robinson, who publishes a hatchet article against him in the newspaper just prior to the vote.

Left to consider the future, Ajay is suddenly intrigued when he attends the auction for the Ramsay house, which sees Lucas pull ahead as the top bidder.

Just before Lucas can celebrate, however, Ajay makes a rash decision to join the bidding - and it turns out that he's prepared to stump up a much higher value than everyone else.

As the Kapoors are officially announced as the new owners of Number 24, Priya (Menik Gooneratne) is livid that Ajay has gone ahead with the idea without consulting her.

Ajay is keen to convince Priya that they'll have a bright future on the street - can he talk her round?

Meanwhile, Natasha Williams continues to grow closer to Ed Lee as they prepare to promote their 'Odds On' app.

On the day of the project's big launch, there's a last-minute panic when Ed discovers a sudden glitch in the software, which could threaten the success of Andrew's planned promotional event.

Tash and Ed frantically battle to solve the problem and when they finally fix things, their celebrations lead to a near-kiss.

Although the app launch is a success, Tash's good mood doesn't last for long when Andrew suggests that Ed shouldn't be involved in any media interviews to promote the project.

Andrew believes that Ed's socially-awkward manner could count against them, but will Tash really let him be cut out of the picture after all his work?

Neighbours star James Mason has revealed that Chris Pappas relenting to "peer pressure" causes the upcoming teen car crash.

Disaster will strike for Chris, Sophie Ramsay, Andrew Robinson, Tash Williams, Summer Hoyland and Ed Lee in the terrifying road accident.

Talking through the chain of events, Mason told TV Week that the teens are on the way to a concert when they discover that Sophie Ramsay has secured a ride by hiding in the boot. Chris then agrees to let her sit on Summer's knee as the journey continues.

Mason commented: "Chris really is a pretty sensible, straightforward kind of guy who knows the rules - his morals are good. But he gets talked into overloading the car by letting Sophie get in with them.

"He wants to please his friends and make sure everyone's happy - and it doesn't help that the whole group use a bit of peer pressure to convince him. The others just don't see any danger in what they're doing."

It was recently confirmed that with too many passengers in the vehicle, a heated argument will lead to driver Chris getting distracted and swerving off the road. The row is between Andrew and Tash over their gambling app.
