CORRIE cabbie Lloyd Mullaney is in for a shock later this year – when an ex-girlfriend reveals he has a secret daughter.

Soap bosses are looking for actresses to play the driver’s former flame and his child, who will join the show in September.

A show source said: “Lloyd hasn’t been in touch with this woman for a while, and then she waltzes in and announces that he has a daughter.

“The news will knock Lloyd for six. His reaction will be pretty explosive.”

Last week viewers saw Lloyd – played by Craig Charles – return to the cobbles following the actor’s six-month break to film a new series of hit TV series Red Dwarf.

Lloyd quit Weatherfield back in December after selling his half of a cab company to Steve McDonald’s ex, Becky.

Coronation Street's Lloyd Mullaney is to discover that he has a long-lost daughter in an upcoming episode.

Soap insiders recently hinted that the surprise was in store for Lloyd (Craig Charles), and the story has now been confirmed on the official ITV Coronation Street website.

Lloyd becomes aware of his estranged offspring when he bumps into Mandy, an old flame, who reveals the existence of Jenna, his grown-up daughter.

Mandy - portrayed by Pamela Nomvete (EastEnders) - becomes a cook at the Rovers, while Jenna - played by Kriss Bohn (Law and Order UK) - works at the local hospital.

Producer Phil Collinson said: "The story allows us to establish two terrific actresses alongside Craig Charles and create an instant 'new' family for Lloyd.

"Mandy is a warm and big-hearted character who has seen a lot of life and is always ready to dispense common-sense advice and wisdom.

"Jenna is a clever, educated young woman, whose life will be turned upside down as she struggles to come to accept Lloyd as her real father."

Charles returned to the soap earlier this month after an extended break, filming the new series of sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf in the process.

Lloyd's past comes back to haunt him when he bumps into an old flame and discovers a grown-up daughter he never knew he had!

A long-dead affair is rekindled and secrets and lies come spilling out as Lloyd, his ex Mandy and their daughter Jenna, struggle to come to terms with the secret Mandy has carried for over 20 years.

As they settle into a more permanent life in Weatherfield Mandy, played by Pamela Nomvete will find a home cooking at The Rovers and Jenna, played by Krissi Bohn, working at the local hospital. But another secret looks set to rock this fragile new family and change their lives forever.

Pamela has previously appeared in EastEnders and Lewis and Krissi's credits include Law and Order UK.
