D.S Phil Hunter (Scott Maslen) panics when he discovers his ex is immigrating to Australia and taking his daughter with her. PC Steve Hunter (James Lloyd), concerned that his brother is making the same mistakes their father did, calls their mother Lynn (Anita Dobson), who surprises Phil by turning up at the station unannounced. Lynne wastes no time in telling her son in no uncertain terms to face up to his responsibilities as a father. Phil, in a rare onset of emotion and guilt, rushes to be at Kate’s (Tamsin Skan) side when she has her baby scan. Somehow, he finds himself proposing to her…
Lucy (Lisa Stevenson) reluctantly allows her son Bradley (Dane Carter) to testify against his father and the case is finally drawn to a close. But is Ben (Joe Caffrey) a free man or a convicted paedophile? Either way, the result is sure to have devastating and long term effects on the family. Despite everything that’s happened, D.C Terry (Bruce Byron) takes no pleasure in seeing his brother’s pain.
Meanwhile, Smithy is taking a few risks of his own in the relationship stakes when grabs the opportunity to meet up with gangster’s wife Louise Larson (Rosie Marcell) and continue their daring relationship.
P.C Tony (Graham Cole) on the other hand is having no luck at all with women and tries his hand at internet dating. Phil finds out and ropes Acting DC Gary Best (Ciaran Griffiths) into playing a trick on Tony. But will he see the funny side of it?
Superintendent Adam Okaro’s (Cyril Nri) old friend Isaac (Anthony Warren) pulls a few strings at the local council to help Adam with his road safety campaign, which has been taking a lot of effort to get off the ground.

D.S Phil Hunter (Scott Maslen) is trying to get his head round the fact that he inadvertently asked Kate (Tamsin Skan) to marry him. He lets it slip to D.S Samantha (Lisa Maxwell) who is less than sympathetic to his situation.
Phil is surprised when Kate turns up at the station and is horrified to discover that she has been mugged at knifepoint. His temper gets the best of him when he finds the thug who is responsible. Kate, impressed by his passion for the job, sees Phil in a new light – could there be a wedding to plan?
Inspector Gina (Roberta Taylor) returns to work immediately after receiving treatment for her cancer. Clearly unfit to work but too stubborn to admit it, she relies on Sergeant June Ackland (Trudie Goodwin) to oversee the relief.
Acting DC Gary Best (Ciaran Griffiths), desperate to make an impression, gets the break he’s been waiting for when he investigates a stolen goods scam. DCI Meadows (Simon Rouse) approves a bust but things take a sinister turn for the worse when it’s revealed that drugs could be involved. Unfortunately, it’s too late for DC Best, DC Masters (Sally Rogers) and DC Sim (Wendy Kweh) as their suspect is threatening to shoot them. A struggle occurs and Gary is shot in the back. Is he breathing?
Superintendent Adam Okaro’s (Cyril Nri’s) traffic campaign hits another stumbling block when the Borough Commander warns him that he is encroaching on Barton Street’s territory and to back off. Unimpressed by this, Adam turns to old friend Isaac Collins (Anthony Warren) who uses his connections to try to help. However, Isaac’s shady past is soon to catch up with him…
