EastEnders launches Kat Moon's affair storyline next month as viewers see her getting close to a number of Walford's male residents.

As show bosses announced a few weeks ago, Kat will be cheating on Alfie with a mystery man throughout the summer, but his identity will remain under wraps for quite some time.

Ray Dixon, Michael Moon and Branning brothers Derek, Jack and Max are the five suspects who have been officially named by the soap's chiefs.

The story begins as Kat (Jessie Wallace) takes over the running of the Queen Vic's new football team, deciding that Alfie's approach to recruitment isn't working. However, the landlady's own techniques involve flattery and flirtation as she tries to get punters on board, putting her in close contact with a number of Walford men.

Fans will see bad boy Derek (Jamie Foreman) share more scenes with Kat when he asks her to recruit Joey for the team, keen to keep his estranged son in the area on a more permanent basis.

Derek also appears unusually loyal to Kat when Vivienne - the manager of a rival team - starts bad-mouthing her at the pub. Standing up for Kat, he throws bitchy Vivienne and her entire squad out of The Vic!

Meanwhile, Kat appears to be on much better terms with Michael (Steve John Shepherd) as she takes him upstairs at The Vic to give him some of Tommy's old baby clothes.

With Michael's newborn daughter still in hospital, the pair share a long, emotional moment - so could there still be a romantic spark between them?

Max (Jake Wood) is also firmly in the mix as he enjoys some flirty banter with Kat outside the pub following the team's first game.

As Kat teases Max about his legs, he appreciates hers - but is it just harmless fun, or could it develop into something more?

There is also the possibility that Kat and Ray (Chucky Venn) could become more than just friends as they also seem to be getting closer.

At one point, Kat accidentally burns herself on a hot plate in the kitchen - so Ray rushes her over towards the cold tap. With their bodies in close contact, they share a moment of their own.

Jack (Scott Maslen) is also spending lots of time at the pub, and fans will know that he and Kat have always got on well - especially in the aftermath of the tragic baby swap.

Kat's affair begins on July 4 as she sleeps with one of the five suspects. However, viewers will be left guessing over which one…

EastEnders airs these scenes on Monday, July 2, Tuesday, July 3 and Wednesday, July 4 on BBC One.

Monday

Joey begins to manipulate Alice by claiming that their grandmother will be paying a visit this afternoon, urging her to be there. However, Alice isn't entirely convinced and her suspicions prove correct when she calls her gran, who knows nothing about any visit. Alice quickly confronts Joey over the lie, wondering whether he planned to lock her up once he got her home. She once again defends Derek by insisting that he has changed, but Joey won't listen.

Later, Derek is keen to keep Joey in Walford on a more permanent basis, so he encourages Max to give him a job and also asks Kat to recruit him for the football team. However, Joey isn't pleased by his father's interference, which causes more tension between the pair. Derek soon loses patience with Joey, claiming that he doesn't care about his son anyway now that he has Alice's acceptance. Wanting to wind up Derek further, Joey accepts a job from Michael - knowing that his father won't be happy about it…

Meanwhile, Kat decides to take over the running of the Queen Vic football team because she feels that Alfie's recruitment techniques aren't working. She soon approaches Jack, Ray and Max to sign up as members and proves to be extremely persuasive, using flirtation to get them on board and encouraging them to spread the word. Alfie later discovers that Kat's techniques have been a little too successful - they now have far too many team members signed up!

Elsewhere, Lola accuses Jay of grassing her up to the police. Jay denies doing any such thing and soon confronts Lucy, knowing that she may be responsible. Lucy confirms that she did speak to the police about Lola, but only because she didn't want the authorities to start asking questions about Ian's absence. Later, things get worse for Lola when she is charged by the police and taken in for questioning.

Also today, Kim offers to get Sasha a work experience placement with a friend who works in a hospital - but fails to correct the youngster when she assumes that the job will be in forensics

Tuesday

Derek decides to make a special family lunch for Alice and Joey. However, Joey - who has stayed the night - claims that he has more important places to be. Later, while Derek is busy cooking, Alice receives an urgent text from Lauren and rushes off to find her in The Vic. It soon transpires that Joey actually sent the text, still determined to keep Alice and Derek apart.

Soon afterwards, it seems that Joey is finally relenting when Alice persuades him to join the family lunch after all. However, scheming Joey brings Lucy, Fatboy, Whitney, Tyler and Anthony along with him - knowing that this will provoke his father. Joey's plan seems to work perfectly when Derek finds it impossible to stay calm, turning violent as he goes for Joey. Alice is horrified over the altercation, but as the arguments continue, she soon realises that Joey has manipulated the situation. Feeling forced to choose between her father and brother, Alice announces that she's staying in Walford…

Meanwhile, as the Queen Vic football team trials begin, there's a surprise in store for everyone when Mo announces that she is the team physio, threatening to get up close and personal! The men aren't sure whether Alfie has what it takes to make the final lineup, but Kat doesn't have the heart to leave him out. Instead, she leaves a livid Ray on the bench, even though he's clearly the best player they have.

Elsewhere, Lola's 16th birthday is far from a happy one as she has to go to court. Once there, Lola hears that she'll have to do community service and wear an electronic ankle tag. Later, Lola explains the reasoning behind her crime to Jay - declaring that she sabotaged the cars for his sake.

Also today, Phil is mistakenly delivered a banged-up old burger van at The Arches. He decides that Shirley could try running it to take her mind off the loss of Heather - and is pleased when she accepts the challenge.

Wednesday

Kat enjoys flirty banter with Derek, Max, Jack and Ray ahead of the football team's first match. Michael also gets in on the act by offering a gift of football shirts for the team, which Kat gratefully accepts. The team end up losing 4-3 at the game, but show there are no hard feelings by inviting rival team the Old Lions and their manager Vivienne Martinez back to The Vic.

Back at the pub, Kat continues getting close to a number of Walford's male residents. First of all, she shares a moment with Ray in the kitchen when she burns herself on a hot plate and he guides her towards the cold tap. Secondly, Derek defends Kat when Vivienne bad-mouths her, taking control on her behalf by throwing Vivienne and the entire Old Lions team out. Next, Kat enjoys more flirting with Max outside of the pub, while she and Michael later share a long, emotional hug upstairs after she hands him some of Tommy's old baby clothes.

Kat's appreciation of the male punters hasn't gone unnoticed by Alfie, so he makes it clear that he wants some attention himself. However, he is drunk and ends up crashing out on the bed. Back downstairs, Kat heads into the kitchen and is approached by a mystery man. Showing obvious pleasure, Kat invites the guy in, sleeping with him then and there. Once alone again, Kat exits the kitchen and takes her place back behind the bar where Michael, Ray, Jack, Max and Derek are. Kat has just slept with one of the five men - but which one?

Meanwhile, Jay is determined to cheer up Lola and spends the day with her. While the football match is going on and The Vic is closed, they sneak into the pub and make a cocktail after spotting that Alfie has dropped his keys outside. They manage not to get caught despite a few close calls, but Lola only just manages to get home in time for her curfew. Billy isn't pleased that Lola was almost late, so he refuses to let Jay in the house after her. Feeling spontaneous, Lola runs out again and plants a kiss on a shocked Jay.

Also today, Phil is pleased to see that Shirley is back to her old self as she continues to work on the burger van project. Phil forbids Ben from reminding Shirley that it's Heather's birthday, not wanting to upset her again. In a strange gesture of self-comfort, Ben writes Heather a birthday card, which he hides.

Thursday

Kat is plagued with guilt after cheating on Alfie the night before. Alfie misinterprets her subdued mood, thinking that she is annoyed with him for being so drunk yesterday, so he buys her a bouquet of flowers to make up for it. Kat insists that she isn't angry with Alfie, but is merely having second thoughts about joining the pub league. Alfie decides that his undeserved place on the team is the source of the problem and immediately quits - telling Kat that they can be joint managers instead.

Kat spends most of the day ignoring constant phone calls from her mystery lover. When she finally answers, she tells the man to leave her alone. Soon afterwards, though, the individual in question calls up on the pub's phone. Alfie is the one who answers and he clearly recognises the voice of the man on the other end, telling Kat that her 'favourite fella' is on the line. Kat is enraged by the behaviour of her lover and refuses to speak to him. But will she give in as he continues to beg her for a meeting?

Meanwhile, Joey steps in to help Lucy when she gets some unwanted male attention while out and about. Jumping to her defence, he punches the guy in question. Later, Lucy invites Joey round to see her, rewarding him with a gentle kiss. Things heat up between the pair, but Joey warns her that he's bad news. Disregarding his warning, Lucy continues to seduce Joey and invites him into the house.

Elsewhere, Shirley's first day working in the burger van is a huge success. Back at home, however, things go wrong when she finds the birthday card that Ben wrote out for Heather. Shirley is furious that nobody reminded her about Heather's birthday and Phil is worried as she appears grief-stricken once more.

Also today, Zainab is thrilled when the Minute Mart wins a special award, young Kamil answers the phone to an unidentified caller at the Masood house, while Sasha and Cora try to increase sales in the charity shop.

Friday

Shirley begins to behave strangely as she puts on some uncharacteristic floral clothing and announces plans to sell the burger van, claiming that it bores her - and Phil does too. She ends up changing back into her usual clothes after being likened to Anne Widdecombe, but continues to act oddly by getting drunk at a Walford barbecue and harassing Fatboy. Soon afterwards, Shirley climbs on top of the public toilets in her emotional state.

Surprisingly, Shirley is not alone on the roof as Jean is also up there, having been doing some stargazing with her telescope. Jean quickly realises that Shirley is deeply unhappy with her life and offers her some words of comfort, telling her that Heather would have never wanted to see her this way. Shirley suddenly gets scared as her fear of heights returns, but Jean helps her to get down safely. Are the pair becoming friends?

Meanwhile, Kat feels guilty over her recent behaviour, and Alfie comforts her as she starts to cry - oblivious to her infidelity. Kat starts focusing on being the perfect wife and mother by cleaning, ironing and baking a cake, but she struggles to ignore the constant phone calls and texts from her mystery man. Later, Kat gets a text from her lover which asks her to meet him in the alley. When she heads outside, she asks the man to leave. However, Kat can't resist his advances when he pulls her in for a kiss…

Elsewhere, Joey is enjoying his romance with Lucy, but becomes unnerved when Derek claims that it's his destiny to be in Walford with the rest of the family. Still determined that he wants nothing to do with his father, Joey calls a taxi and says goodbye to Lucy - promising that he'll call her. Derek is shocked to see his son leaving, but Joey tells him that they will never strike up a bond. Joey then heads away from the Square in the cab.

Also today, Michael registers the baby's name as Scarlett Patricia Moon without Janine's agreement - but she can't deny that she loves the name change.

EastEnders fans will see that Kat Moon is plagued with guilt as her affair begins next week.

As we reported at the weekend, Kat will get passionate with a mystery guy at the Queen Vic on July 4, following suspicious interactions with a number of Walford men.

Max, Ray, Derek, Michael and Jack are the five suspects in the storyline - but even the EastEnders cast are in the dark over the outcome, as all scenes with Kat and her lover are being filmed with an extra to avoid leaks.

On the morning after her infidelity, Kat (Jessie Wallace) feels terrible over her decision to cheat on husband Alfie. However, it's a mistake that she finds it difficult to forget as her mystery man plagues her with constant phone calls and texts.

At one point, the guy even phones the Queen Vic's landline and when Alfie (Shane Richie) answers, he clearly recognises the voice on the other end. Completely oblivious to what's really going on, Alfie tells Kat that her "favourite fella" is on the line.

Kat is enraged by the behaviour of her lover and immediately decides that she can't let the affair continue.

However, Kat's resolve is tested when the man in question won't take no for an answer over the next day or so, continuing to call and text despite her rejection.

Still feeling unsatisfied in her relationship with Alfie, the landlady eventually meets her lover outside in the alley when he informs her that he's waiting for her.

Kat is initially intending to tell him to go away, but in the end, she can't resist his advances when he pulls her in for a kiss - and it's clear that this relationship will be going on for a while. But who is her persistent male admirer?

EastEnders airs these scenes on Thursday, July 5 and Friday, July 6 on BBC One.

An unlikely pairing, but it could work well.
