EastEnders schemer Michael Moon flies into a rage later this month as Janine Butcher tells him that she is cancelling their wedding.

Janine becomes disheartened in the coming days when she hears that her family may not be able to make it to the ceremony. Later, heavily-pregnant Janine panics as she collapses in pain. When she heads out to see the doctor, she is advised that her wedding may be coming at the wrong time as such high levels of stress can be dangerous for the baby.

Soon afterwards, Janine breaks the news to Michael that she has decided to cancel the wedding. Michael is enraged by the news and immediately blames Jean, storming round to The Vic for a showdown with her.

As the row escalates, Ray and Jack are forced to step in and throw a distressed Michael out of The Vic and into the gutter - leaving him at rock bottom. How can Michael get the wedding plans back on track?

MICHAEL MOON loses his cool and has to be held back when his feud with Jean goes out of control.

EastEnders’ sinister schemer sees red after his fiancée, Janine, cancels their wedding.

Jean has been refusing to let Michael get away with stealing her and Alfie’s money and, with fiery Kat in her corner, has been hounding him to admit the truth to pregnant Janine.

So when the mum-to-be collapses in pain and doctors warn her the stress isn’t good for the baby, she decides to call off the wedding.

Michael, played by Steve John Shepherd, blames Jean and storms round to the Vic to have it out with her.

Things quickly turn aggressive and it’s left to his business partner Jack and the pub’s chef Ray to hold him back then dump him unceremoniously in the gutter outside.

Someone really should have told him – you don’t mess with the Slater girls, Michael.

Tuesday 19th at 7-00pm

Janine's wedding plans start to go wrong when she hears that her family may not be able to make it to the ceremony. To make matters worse, a persistent Jean is continuing to confront her about Michael, asking how Janine can trust a man who has stolen from his own child, Tommy. Later, Janine panics as she collapses in pain. She tries to call Michael for help, but it's no use as he is not answering his phone.

Janine then heads out to see the doctor, who advises that her wedding may be coming at the wrong time as such high levels of stress can be dangerous for the baby. When Michael eventually returns, Janine reluctantly breaks the news to him that she has decided to cancel the wedding. Michael is furious over the news and immediately blames Jean, storming round to The Vic for a showdown with her. However, Ray takes no nonsense and throws an emotional Michael out - leaving him at rock bottom…

Meanwhile, Jay is excited over his wedding plans and urges Abi to go public with their news by putting her engagement ring on. Later, Abi gets the ring stuck on her finger just in time for a Branning family lunch celebrating her trip to Costa Rica. At first, Tanya and Max are oblivious to the ring as they shower their youngest daughter with affection, but Jay soon forces Abi to reveal the ring to her parents. How will Max and Tanya react?

Elsewhere, Lucy is distraught as a menacing Derek continues to steal money from the café. Needing a friend at this difficult time, Lucy tries to make things up with Lauren. Soon afterwards, Lauren notices that Lucy appears to be frightened of Derek and it's not long until she finds out why. As Derek pays a visit to the chip shop to threaten Lucy, he's unaware that Lauren is hiding in the back, hearing every word…

Also today, as the Moons continue to struggle with their finances, Kat tells Alfie that she knows Roxy was responsible for their recent loan rather than Eddie.

Wednesday 8.00pm

Hour-long episode

Janine's wedding plans appear to be back on track after all as Ricky, Tiffany, Morgan and Diane all return to the Square. At the same time, Jean remains determined to prove her innocence, so she steals keys from Billy to sneak into Michael's house and look through papers. When a surprised Diane finds her there, Jean claims that her name is Maggie Moon and she's there to collect the buttonholes.

Michael is also having a difficult day as he is taken down to the police station to be questioned over allegations of fraud. After blaming Jean for everything in his police interview, Michael heads back to the Square and is shocked when Diane tells him that his relative Maggie is inside. Shocked to hear his late mother's name, Michael heads inside and confronts Jean, who shows her tough side by grabbing Michael's St Christopher memento and flushing it down the toilet.

Later, it appears that Michael is back to his old tricks when a funeral director arrives to see Jean, declaring that Stacey is dead. The 'news' shocks everyone, until Mo reveals that she has just spoken to her on the phone. When the funeral director claims that he took a call from Jean about a funeral for Stacey, Jean's mental stability is once again called into question. Jean soon begins to lose control as she smashes glasses on the bar and screams about Michael's sick games. Kat is injured among all the commotion - and she soon agrees with Alfie that Jean needs medical help…

Meanwhile, Max and Tanya try to convince Abi that marriage at such a young age would be a huge mistake. Soon afterwards, Max shares the news of Abi and Jay's engagement with Phil, who isn't happy either. Jay remains determined to rebel in the face of disapproval from Max and Phil, but Abi is starting to have second thoughts, especially as Jay seems to assume that she'll be giving up her other ambitions when she marries him. In the end, Abi decides that she will go to Costa Rica.

Elsewhere, Derek forces Anthony to take Alice out on a date, believing that his daughter needs a confidence boost. However, when Anthony picks her up, he finds Derek is coming along as her chaperone. Later, Tyler, Fatboy, Lucy and Poppy joke with Anthony about the best way to let Alice down. When Alice overhears a laughing Anthony practicing a cruel rejection, she gets upset and rushes off - leaving Anthony to face the music with Derek.

Also today, Tanya isn't best pleased when Lauren informs her of how Derek is bullying Lucy.

Transmission day to be confirmed. Will either be Thursday, June 21 OR Friday, June 22 at 7.30pm on BBC One depending on football.

Hour-long episode

It's the day of Michael and Janine's wedding. Kat is beginning to doubt Jean's story about Michael and is considering sending her back to the hospital. However, as she still isn't sure what to do, Kat demands honesty from Michael once and for all. Michael eventually admits the truth to Kat, realising that he can't let Jean be sectioned. He then begins to open up to his former flame, confessing that he finds it difficult to care about Tommy, Janine or even his new baby.

Soon afterwards, Alfie and Jack arrive to take Michael to the ceremony and Kat tells the pair that the schemer has finally admitted his guilt. However, Michael plays more games by denying doing any such thing. Alfie is unsure of who to believe but eventually chooses Kat, before warning Michael that he wants nothing more to do with him.

Later, with the ceremony about to begin, Janine approaches the marquee but is left startled when Jean appears. Jean then leaves Janine visibly distressed by placing her hand on her bump, warning that the baby will be unloved. Janine tries her best to ignore Jean's words as the proceedings begin, but as Ricky starts to give a reading, there's a further surprise in store as Michael takes Janine back down the aisle.

Outside the marquee, Michael confesses to Janine that Jean was right all along and he did steal the money. Michael then gives Janine a shocking ultimatum - rip up the pre-nuptial agreement or they don't get married. What will Janine do?

Meanwhile, it's the day that Abi must leave the Square for her trip to Costa Rica. When Abi shares her intentions with Jay, he assumes that Max and Tanya are forcing her to go, so he starts hatching a desperate plan to run away with his girlfriend. However, Abi refuses to go with him, admitting that she isn't prepared to give up on her ambitions. Fearing he can't cope without her, Jay tells Abi that it's either Costa Rica or him. What will Abi decide?

Elsewhere, Tanya confronts Derek over his mistreatment of Lucy, but he taunts her by saying that there are secrets about Max that she wouldn't like either. At the wedding, Tanya confronts Max over what he was up to when they were separated. Max is forced to confess that he did things he's not proud of, especially as someone got hurt. Following his confession, Max gets down on one knee and proposes to Tanya. After hearing about Max's dodgy dealings, will Tanya still want to marry him?

Also today, Derek blames Lucy when Alice reveals that her mother has somehow found out about their secret meetings. Derek drags Lucy out of the café to confront her, but he's stopped in his tracks when a man arrives on the scene and punches him, knocking him to the pavement. The newcomer turns out to be Derek's son Joey, who immediately makes an impression on a smitten Lucy.

EastEnders fans will soon see Max Branning begin to open up about the secret he has been keeping since last year.

Max's time in Manchester with his brother Derek in late 2011 has been at the centre of fan speculation for some time, but the full story behind their mysterious activities has yet to be revealed.

Next week's episodes see ruthless Derek (Jamie Foreman) bring the subject up yet again as he finds himself in another argument with Max's partner Tanya.

When Tanya (Jo Joyner) confronts Derek over his cruel treatment of troubled Lucy Beale, the Albert Square villain fires back by stirring up trouble - revealing that there are things she doesn't know about Max and what he did while they were separated.

Later, as they attend Janine and Michael's wedding ceremony, a concerned Tanya confronts Max about what Derek said.

Max (Jake Wood) then begins to share his shame over what went on last year, confessing that he did things he wasn't proud of - and someone got hurt.

With his confession out in the open, Max finally feels ready to take his reunion with Tanya a step further - asking her to marry him. But will Tanya accept the proposal after what he's told her? And how much about the Manchester trip is Max still holding back?

EastEnders airs these scenes next week on BBC One.

EastEnders star Jo Joyner has admitted that she is still waiting to find out the exact details of Max Branning's secret.

Max was up to no good in Manchester last year after taking time away from Albert Square when Joyner's character Tanya rejected him.

Tomorrow's (June 22) episode of the Walford soap sees Max begin to open up to Tanya about the mysterious trip, confessing that he is not proud of his actions as somebody got hurt. However, the full story remains under wraps for the time being.

Joyner appeared on Daybreak this morning (June 21) and confirmed that Max was up to "mischief" during his absence.

She commented: "We don't know what mischief. But we do know that while he was in Manchester, he got up to something.

"Do you know what, I honestly genuinely don't even know [what it is] yet! I don't know if they know yet! But there will be something. And yes, it will come out in a couple of months."

Joyner went on to praise the other dramas in store in tomorrow night's episode, which centres around Michael and Janine's wedding.

She said: "The wedding looks fantastic. I mean, just having that marquee in the middle of the Square is unusual, isn't it? It looked brilliant - it was great. It was up for a few days and they were intensive days of filming because there was a lot of cast involved.

"It's great storylines. I mean, it's great to see Gillian [Wright] doing so much, because I just think she's fantastic. And Charlie [Brooks] is fantastic obviously - whoever she's in a relationship with, I always want to watch it. So it is all going to come to a head over the next couple of days, and it's great."

Joyner added that she is expecting busy times at work before she takes a break from EastEnders in 2013.

"I'm taking a bit of time off, not until next year though," she said. "And between now and next year, I've just been told actually - literally just been told - how busy we're going to be.

"There's going to be a lot going on for the whole of the Square, but the Brannings particularly. I can't say much more than that, isn't it annoying? There's a few things that I want to blurt out, but I can't!"

EastEnders airs an hour-long episode tomorrow from 7.30pm on BBC One.

EastEnders star Gillian Wright has said that she is thrilled to see Jean Slater standing up for herself in her current storyline.

Jean has spent the past few weeks battling to prove that Michael Moon has conned her, but he has often stayed one step ahead thanks to his twisted attempts to discredit his new enemy.

Speaking on This Morning today (June 22), Wright explained that she was keen to show Jean's tough side while filming the emotional plot.

Wright commented: "Jean is a victim and the storyline is about a victim, I suppose. [But] I didn't want it to be played as a victim. So I'm looking for any opportunity for her to seize her own power.

"Sometimes that might be the smallest thing, like breaking into somebody's house and searching. That's a big thing - hiding under a table is a big thing!"

Asked how she prepared for her intense scenes with co-star Steve John Shepherd, the actress replied: "We work so fast, and we shoot not in story order, so we're really basically just on the floor and we're dealing with where the director wants us, what the scene's going to be about and then we just shoot. There isn't really that much time to discuss or play."

She added: "When you have a wonderful storyline like this, they don't come along all the time - [so] you have to get yourself in a place where the tears are ready to be produced or the anger is ready to be produced."

EastEnders fans see the story reach a climax this evening as Michael and Janine's dramatic wedding day arrives.

The BBC has today (June 27) defended Jean Slater and Michael Moon's recent EastEnders storyline following complaints from viewers.

More than 100 people have contacted the corporation to raise concerns over the plot, which saw Michael (Steve John Shepherd) con Jean out of a substantial sum of money before launching an elaborate plan to discredit her.

Jean, who suffers from bipolar disorder, was doubted by a number of Albert Square's residents as the story played out. However, Michael finally confessed his guilt in last Friday's (June 22) episode.

It is thought that some viewers were unhappy over the cruel treatment Jean received in the storyline. A statement released on the BBC's website has confirmed that others felt "the depiction of bipolar, as portrayed through Jean Slater, is unrealistic".

In response, the corporation said: "It is important to note that Jean Slater is not intended to be representative of everybody with bipolar disorder. We treat all of our characters as individuals, with their own sets of behaviours and opinions, and there's no suggestion that all of Jean's characteristics are linked to her condition.

"We work closely with a number of experts in the mental health field to ensure that we are as accurate as possible when it comes to Jean's bipolar, her medication, the impact it has on her and those around her, and attitudes and prejudices towards her."

The statement added: "Michael is a well-established villain, intent on destroying others for his own twisted motives, and the current storyline is completely in keeping with his character.

"The audience were aware from the start that it was Jean who was telling the truth even when other characters doubted her. In Friday's episode Alfie, Kat and Janine learned the truth, and Jean was completely exonerated."

In a separate statement, a BBC spokesperson confirmed the total number of complaints.

The representative told The Daily Telegraph: "We have received a total of 107 complaints from over 16 episodes. As every EastEnders viewer will know, this storyline has been running for over a month, with the climax reaching over eight million viewers.

"The storyline was never about Jean's bipolar disorder but about how Michael has manipulated her."

Actress Gillian Wright has played the role of Jean on and off since 2004. Her portrayal of Jean's bipolar disorder has previously received acclaim from the mental health charity Mind.
