Coronation Street bosses have announced that Sir Derek Jacobi has filmed a walk-on appearance on the soap.

The 73-year-old actor and director paid a visit to the ITV1 show's set last week to appear as a punter in the background of a scene at the Rovers Return.

Jacobi had previously spoken of his desire to join the cobbles for a cameo role on a number of occasions.

A Coronation Street spokesperson told The Mirror: "We have tried for years to try and sort out a role in the show for Sir Derek, but we have never quite managed it.

"We are as big a fan of his work as he is of ours. He is an Equity member, so there was no problem getting him on set. It is highly unlikely viewers would spot him, but we hope it made his day."

Coronation Street will air the scene in question later this year.

Pity would have been nice to see Cadfael on the street, can't understand why a good cameo role couldn't have beeen sorted, The Man From UNCLE was slotted in , and did sod all.

How is this a spoiler? :thumbsdow:searchme:Surely this should have been put in the General Corrie News. It certainly is not worth starting yet another NEW thread for a fleeting appearence of someone who does not even speak nor interact with the cast.!!!!!

Because in my mind it is a spoiler whether the actor speaks or not does not matter to me

The words "spoiler alert" in full capitals is usually used to warn readers of a spoiler.
The term spoiler was introduced in the early days of the internet, on the internet, and is often associated with specialist internet sites and in newsgroup postings. Early rules of netiquette insisted that spoilers could and should be normally avoided, but if the posting of "spoiling" information was unavoidable, it be preceded by a warning ("SPOILER!"), or the spoiler itself has to be masked so that it can not be visible to any but those keen for details and not fazed at the thought of such potentially plot-revealing information. Sometimes, these warnings are omitted, accidentally or deliberately (see below), and some unwitting readers have had literature, films, television programmes and other works that they were looking forward to experiencing "spoiled".[1]

Never mind all that. I want to know if he brought Iggle Piggle with him.
