Coming up in Emmerdale, Adam Barton commits arson in a shocking act of revenge against Cain Dingle.

Adam (Adam Thomas) grows increasingly resentful of Cain in the coming days, and is particularly disgusted when his family members start thanking the bad boy for saving Holly's life after she suffered a heroin overdose.

When Adam confronts Cain (Jeff Hordley) at the garage later this month, a heated argument follows and Adam ends up throwing a petrol canister at the mechanic's injured leg, causing petrol to leak everywhere.

Cain is in agony and feels powerless when Adam knocks more flammable liquid onto the floor. In a moment of madness, Adam picks up the blowtorch and declares that it's time for Cain to beg for forgiveness.

Adam then totally loses control as he throws down the blowtorch, igniting a fire. He hesitates for a split second, before leaving Cain locked inside the garage as the flames spread…

Monday

Marlon is taken aback when a concerned Rachel tells him that she's worried about how Ashley treats Sandy. She's stung and angry when Marlon dismisses her accusations and thinks she's saying it out of spite. At Mulberry, Sandy realises that Ashley wants him out of the house and is quick to agree as Laurel heads to work. Marlon is then concerned when he spots a downbeat Sandy alone at the pub.

Later, Paddy finds Sandy sitting at the bus stop in the cold, but he refuses to be taken home. He finally lets himself in at Mulberry, knocking a table on his way in and waking the kids. Ashley is angry and complains about him spending all afternoon drinking, leaving Sandy feeling guilty. Sandy is then shaken when Ashley takes his keys from him and tells him they'll negotiate a curfew…

Meanwhile, Andy is concerned about Adam's attitude over him being farm manager. At the same time, Holly doesn't want to see the drugs worker, but Moira is determined that she must get help. Back from seeing her worker, Holly says that she wants to thank Cain for saving her. Later, in the barn, Adam shifts feed bags - clearly pushing himself beyond the point of exhaustion.

Elsewhere, Declan makes Megan a business partner, leaving Charity thwarted when she wants to speak to him about a job, while there's a sense of Aaron fooling himself as he tells Chas and Paddy that he's okay with Ed going to live in France.

Tuesday

Marlon tells Rachel that Sandy didn't seem himself yesterday, further fuelling her concerns. At the same time, Sandy is hurt and frustrated when an angry Ashley refuses to give him his keys back. In the café, Marlon takes the opportunity to speak to Laurel about Sandy. However, Laurel is furious at Rachel's allegations and tells Ashley about her gossiping.

Later, Ashley berates Rachel for spreading rumours and sacks her in front of Sandy. Sandy questions Ashley's treatment of Rachel, but Ashley reacts viciously and reminds him who's in control. Towards the end of the day, Ashley apologises to Rachel, but it's clear that Rachel's suspicions haven't gone away…

Meanwhile, Megan invites Jai, Charity, Nikhil and Gennie up to Home Farm for lunch. She turns up late and clashes with Katie, but Charity is on a charm offensive and sticks up for her. Megan then reveals her ulterior motive - she's looking for investors for the festival.

At the same time, Adam is annoyed when Moira tells him that she has accepted Megan's generous offer for the fields. Adam is further infuriated when Moira offers to pay for Cain's pint as a thank you for saving Holly's life. Moira then hands in her notice at the pub, determined to focus on her family.

Elsewhere, Aaron is unexpectedly upset when Ed cancels a date.

Wednesdday

Chas and Paddy worry that Aaron is going to get hurt by Ed. Aaron pretends that he wasn't bothered by Ed standing him up yesterday, but gives Ed a taste of his own medicine by leaving him waiting at the café. Aaron then gets sick of Debbie and Cain's meddling when they tell Ed that Aaron will meet him in the pub that night. Aaron tells them there's no point stringing it out - he's finishing it with Ed.

Later, when Ed arrives at the pub, Aaron tries to end it. However, Ed soon leaves Aaron gobsmacked when he asks him to consider moving to France with him…

Meanwhile, Adam is still bitter about Andy being farm manager and jokes to Moira about getting to work before Andy sacks him. Later, Holly convinces Adam to go to the pub with her, but Adam is furious when she thanks Cain for saving her life after the overdose. Adam grabs Holly's arm and tries to move her away, warning Cain to stay away from them.

Elsewhere, Sam worries that Zak is drinking too much when he has a funny turn, Charity makes it clear to Megan that she'll need her on side if she wants Jai to invest in the festival, while Ashley organises a family meal in the pub to prove that they're a happy family, but is unsettled when he sees Rachel talking to Sandy.

Thursday

Aaron tires of Adam's increasing resentment towards Cain and reminds him that his mum wasn't an innocent victim. Soon afterwards, Adam quizzes Moira about Cain, but she finally snaps - telling him that he should look at his own actions if he wants someone to blame. Adam then drives erratically into the village, looking for Aaron.

Adam is unable to find Aaron, but instead sees Cain working at the garage. Cain riles Adam until he throws a petrol canister at Cain's injured leg, with petrol leaking everywhere. Meanwhile, Zak wants Sam to stop checking up on him. Keen to prove himself, Zak insists that he'll pick Samson up from school. On their way home, Zak becomes disorientated, but covers to Samson that they're going to check on some traps. The pair end up lost in the Home Farm woods, but Zak is relieved when they come across Seth's hide.

Elsewhere, Chas has a go at Ed about his hopes of whisking Aaron off to France, Jimmy tells Carl and Rodney that he has a cunning plan to win round Nicola, while Ali is pleased to have a peaceful household as Ruby helps Sean with his maths homework.

Thursday - 2nd episode

Cain desperately looks for a way out of the garage as the fire spreads. Hearing his cries for help, Adam panics and accelerates away on his quad. The fire starts to take hold and Cain sees the situation becoming more dangerous. Adam's conscience soon makes him turn back, but he realises that he can't get into the garage and calls the fire brigade.

Soon afterwards, Adam kicks the door in and heads into the flames. Aaron sees the fire and alerts Debbie before racing to help, ignoring Bob's warnings. Cain, Adam and Aaron all make it out of the garage and Cain seethes about what Adam has done. Aaron confronts Adam about starting the fire, but seeing how petrified Adam is, tells him to keep quiet. Aaron then implores Cain to spare Adam, promising that he'll never ask anything of him ever again…

Meanwhile, Sam gets increasingly agitated when he can't get hold of Zak and Lisa presses him to reveal why he's so worried. Sam heads out to find them, instinctively heading for the pub first. Later, Megan finds Zak and Samson and senses something is awry, so she insists they go back to Home Farm to warm up. Sam then arrives to collect Samson, disgusted with Zak.

Elsewhere, Jimmy plays Nicola at her own game by organising a romantic meal - before revealing that it wasn't to seduce her and leaving her alone.

Friday

At the scene of the garage fire, everyone is shocked as they come to terms with what has happened. Soon afterwards, Holly finds Adam panicking and is stunned to hear that he started the fire. Moira is suspicious of the pair's behaviour, but Aaron arrives and backs up Adam's story. However, Adam continues to panic as he doesn't know what Cain is going to tell the police.

Later, Cain tenses when the police arrive to take his statement. Shortly afterwards, the police arrive to question Adam at the farm just as he is about to crack. Suspicious of Adam's story, Moira visits Cain and is left reeling when he reveals that Adam started the fire. But has Cain told the police yet?

Meanwhile, Sam reluctantly tells Lisa that Zak has been drinking too much and didn't know what he was doing. Lisa has a go at Zak when he returns home and he stalks back out again. Sam decides that he doesn't want Zak picking Samson up from school anymore.

Elsewhere, Cameron comforts Debbie who is struggling to comprehend their recent run of bad luck, while Ali is annoyed when Dan calls round to take Sean and Amelia out for their tea.

Emmerdale airs dramatic scenes tonight (March 22) as Cain Dingle is trapped in a huge fire at the garage.

Cain (Jeff Hordley) finds himself in serious danger when unstable Adam Barton (Adam Thomas) starts the blaze in a shocking act of revenge, blaming the village bad boy for his family's recent woes.

Adam flees the scene immediately afterwards, leaving an injured and helpless Cain locked inside. However, fortunately for Cain, Adam's conscience soon makes him turn back.

Arriving back at the garage, Adam rushes inside and a tense struggle follows as he tries to help the mechanic escape before it's too late…
