Neighbours doctor Rhys Lawson will soon launch a nasty plan to land a place on Erinsborough Hospital's surgery programme, it has been revealed.

The Ramsay Street medic, played by Ben Barber, failed to make the cut on his own merits - but he spots an opportunity to get back in the race in episodes soon to air in Australia.

When Rhys meets new surgical intern Erin, he pretends to be romantically interested in her - hoping to distract her away from work and get her kicked off the programme so he can take her place.

Elise Jansen, who plays Erin, told TV Week: "[Erin] is kind of shy. She's confident with her work, but just before we meet her, she lost a lot of confidence after breaking up with her boyfriend of five years. So now everything goes into her work and not necessarily her social life or appearance."

"She's a little bit reluctant when [Rhys] first asks her out," the actress continued. "She's so focused, plus it's a bit out of the blue - normally someone like Rhys wouldn't be interested in someone like her.

"But she's flattered by it and it's lovely to go to dinner with someone and feel there is a connection there. So she gets taken in by his charm - she doesn't know it's all an act."

Neighbours will air these scenes next week on Eleven in Australia and in February on Channel 5 in the UK.

Grrr... I hate Rhys, and it sounds as if he's only going to get worse.

Neighbours teenager Sophie Ramsay will develop an attraction to a "mysterious" newcomer in an upcoming storyline, reports have revealed.

The Ramsay Street schoolgirl, played by Kaiya Jones, is going through a rebellious phase when she meets charming Corey at a gig.

Sophie is impressed by Corey following their introduction and it doesn't take long before they share a kiss.

Toby Wallace, who plays Corey, told TV Week of his character: "Corey's brother is in a band - and he sees him as a really cool person. Corey wants to follow in his footsteps, so he dresses like him and pretends he's into music and going to gigs. Underneath he's almost a geek, but he gets away with it because he's got this charm about him."

"He meets [Sophie] at one of his brother's gigs - they both click and she really likes him," the actor continued. "But there's this wall between Sophie and Corey in that she doesn't really know who he is. She likes that mystery."

Wallace also revealed what it was like to film the pair's upcoming kissing scene.

Asked whether he found the romantic moment awkward to shoot, he replied: "At first, but it was quite comfortable after a while - although we did about 15 takes because we had to do different angles."

Neighbours airs these scenes next week on Eleven in Australia and next month on Channel 5 in the UK.

Here's a first look at Neighbours guest star Toby Wallace, who'll soon be making an appearance as newcomer Corey on the soap.

As reported earlier this week, Corey is a mysterious but charming guy who Sophie Ramsay (Kaiya Jones) meets at a gig in a forthcoming episode.

Sophie is going through a rebellious phase when she meets Corey, and as they get to know each other, it's not long before they share a kiss.

We hear that Corey will only appear in a handful of episodes, but it should be interesting to see how he fits into Sophie's rebellion following her troubled times with Noah and Kate. Will there be more heartbreak ahead for the teen?

Neighbours airs Corey's first scenes next week on Eleven in Australia and in February on Channel 5 in the UK.
