Before coming to a decision that she might regret, Amy should bear one thing in mind. A baby is for life, not just for Christmas.

Although she has managed to resist the emotional pressure put on her by Val and even her son’s grandfather Zak not to give up the child for adoption, she has a change of heart when she sneaks in to see the battered father Cain in hospital.

“I hope you’re hurting so bad you can’t stand it,” Amy hisses at his bedside, thinking he’s asleep. “I’m going to see my son now. And maybe
I will keep him. Bring him up in the village. And there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Calling the infant Kyle, the name given to him by the nurses, a nervous Amy brings him home on the Friday before Christmas.

At this rate, Val and Pollard could start their own orphanage. It could be a nice little earner for crafty old Eric.
