I was wondering if any one know some one that has to have dyalisis.

My husband is diabetic and after some 16 years with the condition his left kidney has stopped working and the right only working a half rate,he is still in hospital, but has been told today he will be on dyalisis three days a week for the rest of his life. But the biggest blow is he can only have a litre of fluid a day, and that includes things like gravy custatrd etc.

I am looking for ideas of what to feed him when he comes home. He cant have sugar cos of diabetes. Now he cant have potasium or any salt. what can I give him.....

Not allowed Oranges, Grapes or Bananas, salty snacks, nuts, tomatoes or tomatoe puree, mushrooms, garlic, no soups, red meat only once a week, potatoes only boiled, no pasta, no coffee,no broccilli, cauliflower the list is endless and of course no alcohol. any meal ideas would be gratefully recieved.

Salmon? with a nice salad and new potatoes. or some chicken pieces?

It's difficult - pretty much anything with a sauce is ruled out by the sounds of it.

Thanks Lunalee I had been searching around, and didnt find much,They are very informative. It is going to take up a lot of time doing menus but I know what I am doing now.once again thanks a lot. It is amazing the amounts that are limited in the way of foods we all eat every day. I shall be protecting my kidneys from now on.
