Coronation Street's Lloyd Mullaney goes into meltdown later this month after discovering that girlfriend Cheryl has been having an affair with her ex-partner Chris.

Chris gleefully announces the news to Lloyd (Craig Charles) as the two men have a massive row in this Friday's double bill, and things get worse for Lloyd when Cheryl confesses that she's fallen in love with her ex again.

Steve is there to support Lloyd as he struggles to accept the fact that he's lost Cheryl, but it's clear that moving on will be a difficult task for the heartbroken cabbie.

As all parties involved try to come to terms with what's happened, Cheryl pays a visit to Lloyd at the cab office to apologise and check that he's okay. However, Lloyd sends her packing - making it clear that he doesn't want her sympathy.

When Cheryl is gone, Karl (John Michie) makes a misguided attempt to cheer Lloyd up by claiming that he's better off without the bar manager - branding her a "freeloader" and a "user".

However, Lloyd is in no mood to hear anyone insulting Cheryl and flies at Karl - before sacking him on the spot! Can Lloyd get over Cheryl and will Chris's sick lies over his condition be exposed?

Coronation Street star Craig Charles has admitted that his character Lloyd Mullaney is heading for a "breakdown" as his love triangle storyline reaches its climax.

Lloyd receives a shock in Friday night's double bill of the soap as he discovers that girlfriend Cheryl Gray (Holly Quin-Ankrah) has been cheating on him with her ex-partner Chris.

Chris (Will Thorp) reveals the affair to Lloyd after the cabbie starts to get suspicious over his illness, accusing him of exaggerating his condition after discovering that he has lied about having a hospital appointment. Lloyd is immediately devastated by Chris's revelation and decides that he must have been wrong with his original theory.

Charles told itv.com of the latest plot developments: "Lloyd's about to tell Cheryl, 'He didn't have an appointment, there's nothing wrong with him, he's pulling the wool over our eyes and he's not even sick'. Chris knows that [he's] going to do this, so he pulls out his trump card.

"Things are going to get a lot worse. Lloyd's going to have a proper breakdown - he takes this really, really badly."

However, Charles also warned that Chris is likely to get his comeuppance for hiding the fact that his brain tumour has receded.

He said: "Chris has made a rod for his own back, because at some stage, it's got to come out that there's nothing wrong with him. And who knows what's going to happen after that? Will Cheryl then try and come back to Lloyd? Will Lloyd take her back? Watch this space!"

Coronation Street continues tonight at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV1.

Poor Chesney and Schmeichel. :( I shan't watch. Don't like pets dying in soaps.

Monday

At the Windass house, Katy unburdens herself to Anna, who visits Chesney. While sympathetic, Anna explains to Chesney that his girlfriend and unborn child need him now. The reality hits Ches, but when Katy again says they can't afford another operation, he blows up.

At the vet's, Schmeichel has taken a turn for the worse and the vet suggests having him put to sleep. Refusing to consider it, Ches takes his dog home but as he contemplates finding another vet, there's a knock on the door - it's a bailiff!

Meanwhile, as Lloyd struggles to deal with Cheryl's betrayal, Karl's attempts to cheer him up don't go down well. Flying into a rage, he tells Karl that he's sacked.

Elsewhere, Tina prepares for dinner with Matt and his friends, but the evening doesn't get off to a great start when Matt suggests that her choice of outfit is a bit revealing, while Ciaran's stunned when Michelle reveals that she's loving being back on the street so much that she wants to stay.

Owen and Anna spot the bailiff on Chesney's doorstep and rush over, urging him to come back tomorrow when they'll sort something out. The bailiff reluctantly goes, but Ches still can't think straight as he watches his dying dog.

Knowing only Katy can get through to him, Kirk calls her round. It's heartbreaking as Ches finally concedes that Schmeichel needs to be put down and calls the vet. He's overwhelmed by grief but vows to look to the future, aided by a phone call from Fiz.

Meanwhile, Tina feels sidelined by Matt's uni mates and when one of the girls reveals that she is Matt's ex, Tina's hackles rise, especially when she belittles her job. Outside, Tina lays into Matt for not defending her and when a passing PC asks if there's a problem, Tina turns on the copper - assuming they're a mate of Kirsty's. This leaves Matt mortified.

Back home, Tommy comforts Tina but will she see that he's more of a match for her than Matt will ever be?

Elsewhere, Steve tries to support Lloyd; Ciaran tells Michelle that he wants to return to the cruise ship and they both realise they want different things in life; while Tommy constructs a 'UFO' to fool Brian.

Thursday

It's an emotional day for Fiz as she returns to the street after being released on bail. However, her hopes for a fresh start soon fade when Michelle explains that there's no work for her and a trip to the job centre proves fruitless.

As news of Fiz's release spreads, the gossip starts. Her friends throw a surprise drinks party in the pub, but when Sally makes it clear she's not welcome, tempers flare. Can Fiz put her ordeal behind her?

Meanwhile, when Chris stops Russ from talking to Lloyd, a confused Russ decides to bunk off school. He's caught by Lloyd who takes him home to Cheryl, explaining how Chris shouted at Russ for trying to talk to him. Cheryl confronts Chris, who storms round to Lloyd's in a rage. Will there be fireworks?

Elsewhere, Michelle tells Ciaran that she wants to put down roots and have kids; Matt apologises to Tina for their row; while Tommy and Tyrone attempt to wind up Brian with their home-made UFO.

As Cheryl rails at Lloyd for attacking a man with a brain tumour, she insists on taking Chris to hospital. When Cheryl asks the doctor if the fall has affected Chris's brain tumour, the doctor is thrown - explaining that his brain scan was clear and the tumour receded weeks ago.

With her doubts mounting, Cheryl confronts Chris. She's horrified as Chris is forced to confess to his lie and tells him that she never wants to see him again. Alone with Lloyd, Cheryl apologises for hurting him and begs for another chance. Will Lloyd take Cheryl back?

Meanwhile, Ciaran plays some poker with the lads and his luck is in. Getting the taste, he raises the stakes and soon it's just him and Karl. The others are stunned as Karl throws his car keys on the table and Ciaran puts down the wedding cash. As Peter urges Ciaran to walk away, will he really gamble his wedding deposit?

Elsewhere, Fiz comes to a decision about her future; Nick and Eva grow closer as they bond over their recent disastrous relationships; while Ches scatters Schmeichel's ashes.

Her family and friends may give Fiz and baby Hope a warm greeting when she gets bail on Thursday and returns to the Street, but others are less pleased as they all celebrate in the Rovers.

“That’s quite a reception,” Mad Mary sniffs. “There’d ’ave taken the roof off for Crippen,” Norris huffily adds.

Having disrupted John Stape’s funeral last week, Snooty Sally Webster certainly isn’t in a forgiving mood either as she goes in for a drink with daughter Dozy Rosie, and is convinced Fiz was in league with her murdering husband.

“Thanks to your sister,” she snaps at Chesney, “Rosie was kidnapped twice and nearly killed. So if it’s all the same to you, I won’t be strolling over to shake her hand because I wouldn’t want the blood on it gettin’ on me cardie.”

But when Fiz grabs Sally, she ends up being thrown out. And without a prospect of work and Sally continuing to harangue her, Fiz comes to a decision.

“I can’t stay,” she tells Chesney. “As soon as I’m cleared, I’ve got to get away.”

How soon will that be, though?
