Sir Jimmy Savile has died at his home aged 84.
The former presenter, most famous for his show Jim'll Fix It, passed away at his home in Leeds, according to Sky News sources.
Savile was just two days away from his 85th birthday.

James Savile was born in Leeds on Halloween in 1926, the seventh child (‘I was the “not again!” child’) of Vincent, a bookmaker’s clerk, and Agnes, the woman he always called the Duchess.
He went to work in the coal mines at 14 and if he hadn’t been hurt in an explosion seven years later, would have spent his life there.
He raised staggering amounts for charity — his accountant lost track after £40million — much of it for patients with spinal injuries.

Savile claimed to be the first ever DJ, and said in his autobiography that he was the very first person to ever use two turntables and a microphone at an event back in 1947.
He later competed as a semi-professional sportsman, taking part in the 1951 Tour of Britain cycle race and a professional wrestler.
Talking about his sporting past, Savile once said: 'If you look at the athletics of it, I've done over 300 professional bike races, 212 marathons and 107 pro fights.
'No wrestler wanted to go back home and say a long-haired disc jockey had put him down. So from start to finish I got a good hiding. I've broken every bone in my body. I loved it.'
In 1964, Savile presented the very first edition of Top Of The Pops from a television studio in Manchester. He went on to present the BBC programme for the next 42 years.
During his time in the television and radio industries, Savile became famous for catchphrases including 'How's about that, then?', 'Now then, now then, now then', 'Goodness gracious', and 'Guys and gals'.
Fans were quick to take to Twitter to pay tribute to the legendary presenter, with Katherine Jenkins leading the way.
She tweeted: 'Sad news Jimmy Saville has passed away.My sis & I always wanted a Jim'll Fix it Badge/Medal. Loved that show.Great memories #RIPJimmySaville.'

James Wilson Vincent Savile was born on October 31, 1926 in West Yorkshire. He was the youngest of seven children born to homemaker Agnes Monica and bookmaker's clerk Vincent Savile. He had a brush with death at just 5 months old when he contracted pneumonia, but apparently recovered after his mother asked a nun to pray for him.

As a teenager, Savile was conscripted to work in coal mines during World War II and narrowly escaped death again in an underground explosion. He was warned that he may never walk again after the blast brought a rock face down on his back, damaging his spine. However, he defied doctors' expectations by throwing away his crutches after just three years.

Savile discovered a passion for music in 1940s and began playing records in local dance halls. His use of two turntables and a microphone at the Guardbridge Hotel in 1947 is said to be the first instance of this now-standard practice and Savile regarded himself to be the world's first DJ.

He went on to manage several dance halls around the country in 1950s and also worked as a hospital porter at Broadmoor Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary.

He carved a semi-professional sports career for himself too, taking part in the 1951 Tour of Britain cycle race and working as professional wrestler, although he won just seven of 100 bouts.

But music was Savile's real passion and he joined pirate station Radio Luxembourg as a DJ in 1958. While there, he was recruited to launch classic BBC chart show Top of the Pops on New Year's Day 1964.

He left Radio Luxembourg in 1967 and joined Radio 1 the following year, where he fronted Savile's Travels, discussion format Speakeasy and retrospective chart show Jimmy Savile's Old Record Club. Savile left Radio 1 in 1989, by which time he had launched his best known piece of work - the TV show Jim'll Fix It.

The programme, which saw Savile make children's dreams come true, ran on the BBC between 1974 and 1994. Over its 20-year run, Savile 'fixed it' for more than 1,500 fans.

Savile could still be heard on various radio stations around the UK until the late '90s and he made several more appearances on TV, becoming the subject of a Louis Theroux documentary in 2000 and returning to front the last ever edition of Top of the Pops in 2006.

Savile was not just known for his work in the media; his array of catchphrases like "now then, now then, now then" became iconic and his distinct style of shell suits and gold jewellery teamed with a smoking cigar was frequently spoofed.

He was also famed for his extensive charity work, raising amounts in excess of £40m, most of which went to patients with spinal injuries.

Savile was honoured with an OBE in 1971 and received a knighthood in the Queen's 1990 Birthday Honours List. Other accolades collected throughout his life included a papal knighthood from the Vatican and an honorary doctorate of law from the University Of Leeds. He also became one of only two civilians to complete the Royal Marine Commando speed march across Dartmoor.

Broadcasting legend Sir Jimmy Savile is to be buried at a 45-degree angle looking out over the sea in one of his favourite places.
On the last day of his three-day funeral, Sir Jimmy's gold-coloured coffin will tour Scarborough, North Yorkshire, before he is laid to rest.
Over the last two days, thousands of people have turned out in the veteran DJ's home city of Leeds to pay their respects at his coffin and his funeral.
On the third day of his funeral, the larger-than-life broadcaster will be taken past his flat on the Esplanade before going to the seafront and on to Woodlands Cemetery.
He will be buried with a Royal Marines medal and green beret and a Help for Heroes wristband.
Roger Foster, Sir Jimmy's nephew, said his uncle spent a lot of time on the seafront in Scarborough mixing with lifeboat men and fishermen.
On Wednesday, TV and radio colleagues joined Sir Jimmy's family and friends in St Anne's Cathedral, Leeds, for a two-hour Requiem Mass as thousands of well-wishers watched outside on big screens.
And on Tuesday, around 5,000 people paid their respects to the star when his coffin was displayed in The Queens Hotel, in Leeds.
Sir Jimmy, who presented the first episode of Top Of The Pops, was found dead at his flat in Roundhay, Leeds, just two days before his 85th birthday.
The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall led the tributes to him.

Jimmy Saville is today lying in an unmarked grave after his family removed his headstone and sent it to be broken up and disposed of in a landfill.

The £4,000 tombstone, which bears the star's image and lists his accomplishments, including the epitaph “It was good while it lasted”, was removed at around midnight last night after Savile's family requested it be taken away out of “respect to public opinion”

The move came after police said they believe the “predatory sex offender” could have abused up to 25 victims over 40 years.

Savile's family said they made the decision to ensure the “dignity and sanctity” of Woodlands Cemetery in Scarborough.

The headstone was due to be removed at 7am today but work was brought forward to midnight to avoid unwanted attention, and out of respect for those with relatives in the graveyard.

It has now been taken to a stonemason's yard in Leeds where the inscription will be ground down and will then be broken up and sent to landfill.

Funeral director Robert Morphit, of Joseph A Hey and Son, who organised Savile's funeral and oversaw the dismantling of the headstone, said: “Yesterday afternoon the family contacted me and said they'd thought very carefully about the course of action with regard to the stone.

”They had decided that in order to protect the dignity and sanctity of this cemetery it was appropriate to remove the stone.“

He said the stone was removed in three pieces and taken away on a lorry.

”We've taken it back to our yard in Leeds. We'll grind the inscription off and we will dispose of the memorial. It'll be broken up and just go to landfill.

“When we erected his headstone not three weeks ago I expected it to be here forever. I never thought it'd be removed, let alone so quickly.”

The grave, in which Savile was buried at an angle so he could “see” Scarborough Castle and the sea, will remain unmarked for the foreseeable future.

The prime spot, which is roped off, was today identifiable only by several bunches of flowers on a dirt patch.

Mr Morphit said once the family comes to terms with the outcome of various investigations they will make a decision as to how it should be marked in the future.

A family spokesman said in a statement: “The family members are deeply aware of the impact that the stone remaining there could have on the dignity and sanctity of the cemetery.

”Out of respect to public opinion, to those who are buried there and to those who tend their graves and visit there, we have decided to remove it.“

A number of memorials to Savile have already been removed, including an inscription on the wall at Leeds Civic Hall in recognition of his charity work, and a street sign in Scarborough. A plaque outside his home has been defaced.

Yesterday, Commander Peter Spindler, Scotland Yard's head of specialist crime investigations, said the abuse appeared to have been on a ”national scale“.

He told the BBC: ”At this stage it is quite clear from what women are telling us that Savile was a predatory sex offender.“

Scotland Yard has formally recorded eight criminal allegations against the former Top Of The Pops presenter so far in its investigation, named Operation Yewtree.

The alleged abuse involves teenage girls as young as 13 and includes two complaints of rape and six of indecent assault, with officers looking into up to 120 lines of inquiry that could lead to up to 25 victims.

Mr Spindler said allegations span four decades, the earliest dating back to 1959, and suggest Savile had a ”predilection for teenage girls“.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said at least five forces - the Met, Surrey, Sussex, Northamptonshire and Jersey - are investigating allegations.

As well as claims relating to abuse at the BBC, Jersey's Haut de la Garenne children's home, and Duncroft Approved School for Girls near Staines, Surrey, police have contacted Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Leeds Royal Infirmary, where Savile did charity work.

After the inquiry, Scotland Yard will produce a joint report with the NSPCC to look for lessons that can be learned and conclusions drawn.

The NSPCC received 40 calls in the five days after the claims emerged. Of these, 24 have been referred to police or other agencies, and 17 directly relate to Savile.

There were also 21 unrelated calls to the helpline stemming from publicity over the allegations.

Chairman of the BBC Trust Lord Patten has given his backing to inquiries by police and the corporation, saying allegations against Savile could not be excused as behaviour from a time when ”attitudes were different“.

BBC director-general George Entwistle has also apologised to victims and said the corporation would hold its own inquiry, to follow a police probe.

There was a question asked on the Irish Radio when I was over there about Jimmy. it asked is the woman who said she walked in on him and caught him with a child just as guilty as him for not reporting it... I think she is. Who opens a door, sees a grown man having sex with a child and closes it behind them.. That poor child was probably thinking someone was going to save them and the woman just walked away and said nothing until JS was dead. That is just wrong

The people who did not report this man are as guilty as the alleged paedophile himself.

One could as the same question about the Roman Catholic Church and some childrens homes. It seems to ba an institutional thing where people with power abuse itby preying on the vulnetable. As for the BBC i belive bosses knew it was going on but because Saville wax so popular and his shows had such high ratings that they turned a blind eye. I feel Esther Rantzen is a tad hypocritical when she says she knew it was going on or suspected it but did notknow who to report it to
Could this be the same Esther Rantzen who married Desmond Wilcox one of the beebs top managers?

I think the church was different.. Those kids there didn't come from a loving family and it was only the nuns who were aware who had no say in it at all. They would never have been believe. This is case of people seen it take place and not saying a word. I am not say that either is correct but I just can't get my head around how one man was let away with it after been discovered on more than one occasion. I am stunned beyond belief.. Who walks in on a man abusing a child and calmly closes a door with a "sorry for disturbing you" shrug.. sick sick sick. I won't care how powerfully, how much money this person has, it is wrong and everyone knows that... I doubt Jimmy had the police in his pocket as the church had
