Corrie Christmas storyline - what the elf's going on?

There's a wonderful picture in today's Mirror of Chesney Battersby-Brown and Gary Windass dressed as elves, riding a bike.

And that's not a sight I think we've seen in Corrie before, not elves on a bike anyway!

Coronation Street are now filming their Christmas episodes so I guess this pictures's been taken from one of the festive storylines. Looks like it might be fun!

Aw thanks Alan I loved Ena Sharples as a child, she reminded me of an aunt. I hope there's going to be a happy christmas in Corrie this year, no death or misery. Just happiness and laughs. Let's leave the gloom & doom to Albert Square.

Yet another Christmas spoiler although this one has been well leaked

Peter Barlow gets a right stocking thriller this Christmas when he ends up between the sheets with sexy factory boss Carla Connor, says The Star.*

I guess we've all seen this coming for a long time, but it's great to hear they finally get together. Poor Leanne, though! The paper says that Peter even vows to Carla that he'll*leave Leanne for her.

Coronation Street's Peter Barlow will be involved in a scandalous storyline this Christmas.

It has been revealed that the soap character, played by 43-year-old Chris Gascoyne, will vow to leave his wife Leanne (Jane Danson) for rival Carla (Alison King) in special episodes that could see the reformed alcoholic also fall off the wagon.

According to the Daily Star, Peter tells Carla that he has fallen in love with her after they spend the night together, saying: "I've fought this for months, but I can't fight it any more. I want us to be together."

However, when he tries to break the news to Leanne, she says: "I love you Peter and I'm not going to give up on our marriage just like that. When I married you it was for better or worse and I'm going to fight until my last breath to keep us together."

Touched by her words, Peter admits to a furious Carla that he didn't tell her the truth but she admits to him: "I love you too... more than anything. I do understand and I can't live without you so for now I'll make do with having you when I can."

A Coronation Street insider revealed: "Things are about to hot up for Peter. His turmoil will result in him being tempted to fall off the wagon and things will come to an explosive head over the Christmas period."

Coronation Street stars have been filming scenes which see Katy Armstrong give birth at a Christmas party, reports have revealed.

The teenager, played by Georgia May Foote, goes into labour early while enjoying festive celebrations at the Weatherfield Community Centre, according to the Daily Mail.

Although an ambulance is quickly called, Katy's baby is believed to arrive while she is at the Centre as paramedics do not turn up on time.

The young mum's boyfriend Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) is there for the birth as he is working at the Centre, dressed as a Christmas elf.

Katy and the baby are later taken to hospital with Chesney by their side.

The teen couple's current storyline began earlier this year when they decided to start trying for a child together.

Katy soon fell pregnant and they have since been forced to deal with the financial realities of their situation as they prepare for their baby's arrival.

Coronation Street continues on Thursday at 8.30pm on ITV1.

Christmas wouldn't be the same in Coronation Street without a dramatic storyline.
And instead of previous years' more depressing episodes, this year the Weatherfield residents will have something more joyful to celebrate with the birth of a new baby.
Teenage couple Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote) end up becoming parents earlier than expected when the 17-year-old goes into labour during a Christmas party.

That's not a real baby! Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) cradles a baby doll after girlfriend Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote) gives birth in the Christmas episode
Market stall holder Chesney is dressed as an elf working at the Weatherfield Community Centre when his young girlfriend's waters break.
But with paramedics nowhere to be seen due to the busy Christmas season, Katy ends up giving birth in the Centre.

In scenes filmed this week, Foote is seen being wheeled into an ambulance with Aston playing the proud dad as he cradles their young baby.

Too young? The couple have both been worried if they will be able to cope with a child
And to make the episode even more Christmassy, it fittingly begins to snow as the ambulance draws away.
Their child will be the latest in a list of Christmas babies on the soap, with Sally Webster giving birth to Rosie Webster on Christmas Eve 1990 and Judy Mallett welcoming twins on Christmas Day 1998.
Despite their young age, Katy and Chesney have quickly become a popular couple as they fought to stay together, despite the initial interference of her over-protective father Owen (Ian Puleston-Davies).

Dramatic arrival: Katy ends up giving birth in the Weatherfield Community Hall before being taken to hospital
After watching Chesney's sister Fiz Stape (Jenni McAlpine) give birth to his niece Hope early following the tram crash last year, the couple decide to have a child of their own.
But Corrie viewers saw Katy start to panic if she was ready when she and Chesney struggled to look after Hope when Fiz was first wrongly arrested for the murder of Colin Fishwick.
But with Chesney only just 17 with a young family to support, he's also been feeling the strain financially and risked the couple being evicted from their council flat when he failed to pay their rent.

CORONATION STREET bosses have decided to make their festive episodes full of Carry On-style comedy rather than doom and gloom.

They’re hoping their festive treats will beat BBC1 rival EastEnders, whose episodes are expected to be full of heartbreak.

ITV chiefs decided on a cheery Christmas after last year’s tram crash that devastated the cobbles.

And top of the bill will be the heartwarming scenes in which student Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote, 20) gives birth to a baby boy on Christmas Eve.

But in true soap style, things don’t run smoothly as dad Chesney Battersby Brown (Sam Aston, 18) faces a dash across Weatherfield to be at her side when he gets the call she’s gone into labour.

And fans will be left giggling because Katy’s waters break while she’s dressed as the Virgin Mary during a rehearsal for the local nativity play.

Chesney, who was dressed as an elf to help sell Christmas trees, manages to reach Katy just in time to see his son being born.

There won’t be a dry eye anywhere as the lad breaks down crying as he cradles his baby.

He tells Katy: “I can’t believe it. We’ve got a son. Our son, my son. I love you so much.”

The pair will give the baby the festive name of Joseph.

It won’t just be Weatherfield’s youngsters bringing us Christmas cheer.

Golden oldies Rita Sullivan and Emily Bishop will turn Masterchefs as they battle it out to see who cooks the best dinner. Their war begins when Emily (Eileen Derbyshire, 81) tells Rita: “I think everyone will agree that I am a better cook than you, Rita.

“I think it best if I do Christmas dinner.”

Rita (Barbara Knox, 78) hits back: “Since when were you Weatherfield’s answer to Delia Smith? Your culinary achievements leave a lot to be desired.”

They decide to settle it with a cook-off, and let their neighbours choose the winner.

In other hilarious scenes, Corrie residents will wake up on Christmas morning to discover their presents are sitting under bald festive trees.

That’s because wide-boy Gary Windass (Mikey North, 25) sells them all rotten trees that shed their pine needles before the big day.

A show insider said: “It will be one gaffe after another that has everyone laughing.

“We want our fans to have a laugh over Christmas this year, not push them into depression.”

I wonder who thought up that original idea?

Still, at least it won't be during the actual performance as in The Vicar of Dibley.

Coronation Street star Sacha Parkinson has accidentally revealed that there will be a white Christmas in Weatherfield this year.

The 19-year-old inadvertently let the cat out of the bag when she tweeted pictures of the famous cobbles, covered in snow, as she filmed her final scenes as lesbian Sian Powers on the ITV1 soap.

"Look how beautiful the street looks..." she wrote.

A Corrie insider told the Daily Mirror: "It was supposed to be a surprise for the festive episodes. Next thing it's plastered all over Twitter. Sacha even tweeted how beautiful it looked.

"Cast have been warned about leaking storylines on Twitter. It seems she forgot," they added.

Sacha, who joined the soap in 2009, is set to make her dramatic exit as she gets married to Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) in the soap's controversial first lesbian wedding.

"It's been the best 3 years of my life, i'm very blessed to have been given this opportunity and I can honestly say my family has grown! The best memories, the best people, the best job. Thank you x," she later wrote.

Coronation Street character Becky McDonald will reportedly be caught in a fire on Christmas Day.

In the hour-long festive special, Becky, played by Katherine Kelly, drowns her sorrows after discovering that her ex-husband Steve (Simon Gregson) has proposed to Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).

She sets fire to photos of Steve but subsequently falls asleep, causing her flat to go up in flames, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Gregson and Kelly were spotted filming emotional scenes in Manchester last month, which were rumoured to include the moment Steve makes his final choice to stay with pregnant Tracy.

Kelly announced her departure from Coronation Street in April and her character will be seen for the final time early next year.

The latest reports suggest that Becky will ruin Steve and Tracy's wedding after she is falsely accused of killing Tracy's unborn twins by pushing her down a set of stairs.

It's now as traditional as dry turkey and over-boiled sprouts - the seasonal glut of soap opera action. On Christmas Day at 8.00 p.m., ITV1 viewers will see one Corrie character fighting for her life and another attempting to keep a promise. The yuletide soap epics seem to be the mainstay of the schedules, yet a quick look through the history books would indicate otherwise.

Back in the 1970s and early 1980s, there was very little Corrie around at all. It tended to be ITV policy only to air the show if Christmas Day fell on a normal Corrie day. Even then, it wasn't always the case. Also, Granada tended to keep the festive storylines fairly light and managed to wait until 1987, the year of Hilda Ogden's departure, before really having a big story on the big day.

In fact, the Corrie Christmas storylines tended to be either low-key or a bit odd. Some of those you could have enjoyed include:

1961 - Ena chokes on a sixpence, by crikey she does Minnie Caldwell!
1962 - Emily and the tranquilisers. Well, it was the Swinging Sixties . . .
1969 - Ena & Emily duetting on "Cockles and Mussels" in the Rovers. Valerie Barlow's topless rendition of "We shall overcome" was never transmitted.
1976 - Vera attempts to strip Ernie Bishop
1982 - The community centre dance sees Elsie getting groped by someone older than her . . .
1985 - Alf sits on a plum pudding
1996 - Curly and Maureen. Together. In bed . . .

We should be thankful though that Corrie has never strayed down the Albert Square root and killed off a major character under a Christmas tree.
