i drank the tea, i am sure it was around 30 weeks i started drinking it, i will ask my friend who works in a health shop tomorrow and check, i am sure it helped me as it was just about the only thing i did differently, with my first i had a 14 hour labour and had a vontouse and an epidural, with my second i just had about a 3hour labour and just gas and air! i am so sure the raspberry stuff helped it is supposed to help get your cervix ready or something like that!!!

twinkle_eyes83
21-06-2005, 20:57
i think i might start taking it now then

willow
21-06-2005, 21:03
i would find someone who knows about it first, i think there are different strengths and i dont want you to get any adverse reactions, do you have a health shop locally or you could ask your midwife

Siobhan was last around on the 10th I think at 17:13. According to her profile anyways. She was going on maternity leave from work which was where she got her internet access, she should be back with us soon though because she's moving home and getting Broadband at home. Her baby is due soon though.

they are one of the best, but they have loads of calories too so i dont eat them too often!

Treacle
22-06-2005, 21:21
I don't worry about calories. I just stick the whole bar in.

willow

Treacle

willow
25-06-2005, 06:58
With Stephen I craved pickled onions dipped in double cream  though luckily it didn't last very long!!!

that does not sound very appitising!! that makes my strawberries in gravy seam a bit more tasty!!!

Jojo
25-06-2005, 09:57
I'm just glad it didn't last that long! Then I went on to home grown runner beans mixed with mashed potato and gravy. Had no cravings except for food in general with Ciaran and this time round I am addicted to acidic drinks. Gone off orange juice now and hit the fizzy apple juice instead (which I hate normally!)

willow
25-06-2005, 10:06
that sounds yummy i love mash!!!! fizzy apple is not that nice i prefer cherryade

Jojo
25-06-2005, 10:12
Had to be all mushy and mixed in together. The weird thing is that Stephen now loves his veg. Can't get enough of it, so maybe its from the craving. And runners are high in folic acid too, so it was a double bonus.

willow
25-06-2005, 10:21
i like mash mixed veg and gravy all mixed up, in a nice big bowl and i will happily sit in front of the tv eating it!!! and i'm not pregnant!! when i had niall i ate everything that did not move and it did'nt help that i was working in a kitchen at the time!! i put on 4 stone!!!

Jojo
25-06-2005, 10:29
I measured my ever expanding bump with a piece of string and a marker when I was pregnant with Ciaran and 2 days before he arrived, my waistline/bump measurement was 51 inches!!!! And I was a size 10! I've kept the string as a keepsake, but compared my now bump to find that I am the same size now as I was when I was 5 months with Ciaran!! I hope it slows down, as I haven't actually put any real weight on yet!!

willow
25-06-2005, 10:37
i was completly different with both of minewith niall i was massive all the way round like a swimming ring, and with niamh i just had a nice neat bump and did not put on too much wieght with her. and now she is 15 months i am back to what i was before! thankfully i now have clothes that fit!

Jojo
25-06-2005, 10:41
No such luck for me, I was a size 10 had Stephen (nice neat bump), back to a size 10, then with Ciaran absolutely huge and still a size 12-14. Once this one has arrived I have promised myself to get back in shape and to make an effort too!! I don't like being this size. My hubby says I have a backside that you can rest a pint on!!!! He was being affectionate though - I think!!

willow
25-06-2005, 10:50
i was a size 6-8 when i fell with niall (now 9 & 1/2) i managed to get back to a 10 after about 3 years!!! i am now a 8-10 after having niamh 15 months ago but i think that is only because i went back to work when she was 10 weeks old and i have quite a physical job lifting boxes most of the day!! and i got put on anti depressants about 3 or 4 months ago so i gave up drinking so that has helped a lot!!

Jojo
25-06-2005, 10:54
I'm going to make myself get in shape after this one, I spend too much time working from home and generally sitting on my backside, which is doing my figure no good whatsoever. Hubby thinks I am joking, but we'll see who is laughing when he is left with the kids while I get back in shape. It did take me years to get back in shape after Stephen though. Only just got there before I had Ciaran and there is an 8 1/2 year age gap between them!!

willow
25-06-2005, 11:04
i have got the same gap between my 2!!!

Jojo
25-06-2005, 11:08
I'll blame it on me giving up smoking after 14 years last September!!

Was Niall good when you had Niamh. Stephen was brill and really excited, though I think he isn't so keen now cause Ciaran follows him like a sheep everywhere and when you are 11 1/2, you just want to hang with your mates. They are really sweet though, loads of cuddles and stuff!

willow
25-06-2005, 11:12
he was fab he still is!! he loves having a little sister, niamh is not quite old enough to follow him around but when we pick him up from school she runs (well sort of!!) up to him and gives him a big cuddle!!

Jojo
25-06-2005, 11:28
Stephen is the same. Ciaran goes made when he comes home from school, and is gutted if he misses him in the mornings. I think Stephen is quite glad that I am having another one though, cause Ciaran keeps saying about the baby and I think Ste feels that it will take some of the pressure off of him!! The only downside is if Ci is tired he starts hitting out at Ste and he takes it and doesn't do anything back cause he doesn't want to hurt him, so that can be difficult at times. My blood pressure is a bit up at the mo and late in the afternoon all I can hear is the two of them arguing!!

A lot of people I know criticised me for having such an age gap between them, but in some ways I think it makes them closer. And all of Stephens mates love him. He's like their football team mascot!!!

willow
25-06-2005, 11:37
we have got out of going to football today as the weather is so yukky, niamh would scream through the whole thing she hates being stuck in her pushchair now she can walk. during his last mach he scored 7 goals so i hope that was not because of us!!!!

Jojo
25-06-2005, 11:41
Ciaran's the same, but he wants to join in with them, so has tantrums on the side line!! I tend to get over excited too, so its quite good that the season has finished. They are only going to have a few weekend games over the summer.

willow
25-06-2005, 11:44
all we are having is touraments i think today might be the last one, i hope so i have not got much more room for trophys!!! niamhs favorite game is to nick the cones!!

Jojo
25-06-2005, 11:46
Ste plays in defence, so not much chance of scoring, although he scored loads in his first season, the only problem was they were in his own net!! :rotfl:

He did get best sportsman trophy at their annual award this year though, so he was chuffed with that.

willow
25-06-2005, 11:48
niall got most improved player, they dont really have set positions but niall is usually mid field (i think!!)

Jojo
25-06-2005, 13:43
I have been having 2 poached eggs with 4 rashers of bacon every morning of late and the day doesn't seem right if I haven't had it.....maybe thats why I am so big!! :rotfl:

willow
25-06-2005, 13:51
it depends on how you are cooking it, i can't see it being that bad!!!!

Jojo
25-06-2005, 13:55
At least the eggs aren't too fatty as I am cooking them in water, but they are really runny yolks which you're not supposed to have. And the bacon is cooking in the micro till really crispy so shouldn't be too fatty, just really yummy!!

willow
25-06-2005, 13:58
that should be fone, if the eggs are really fresh i can't see a problem with runny ones i ate them all through with niamh and she is fine, i love poached eggs!! yum i think i may have one now!! thanks i was wondering what to have for lunch!!

Treacle
25-06-2005, 14:00
I just have a plain egg omelette or sometimes put a bit of tomato in and occasionally mushroom.

willow
25-06-2005, 15:50
but if you are craving it your body takes over, i was reading a mag a while ago and there was a lady in there who was pregnant and she was craving petrol! it started off with just smelling it then she started drinking it  in the end she had to go into hospital as she was in danger of becoming very ill. in the end she was ok and had a healthy baby

Treacle
26-06-2005, 04:17

oh no i hate it! some of my friends like it but whenever i go in a petrol station it always makes me feel sick

Jojo
27-06-2005, 10:40
I'm with you WQ, I love the smell of petrol!! I could stand in a petrol station all day, but then nothing would get done. I would never drink it though, even I was uncontrollably craving it, the damage that could be done. I worry if I have a little twinge, let alone drinking something so obviously damaging.

Treacle
27-06-2005, 14:55
I used to drink terps because I loved the taste but petrol, yuck!

Luna
27-06-2005, 14:57
I read that story about the girl drinking petrol. She had started off just putting some on a rag and sniffing it during the day but then started to suck on the rag and she said it just got worse from then on. The doc's had to admit her and i'm sure i read something about her not being able to get some sort of pain releif because of her addiction.

Treacle
27-06-2005, 14:59
Ewww black petrol trickling down your tongue ewww.

27-06-2005, 15:03

Jojo
27-06-2005, 16:05
I suppose we could never understand that sort of craving, unless we went through one similar ourselves!

Treacle
27-06-2005, 16:18

Jojo
01-07-2005, 09:45
Oooo yum - I love em but the rice bits hurt the roof of my mouth after a while. I've gone right off chocolate, which is really annoying cause now is the time I have a perfect excuse to eat it!!! :rotfl:

I have my healthy addiction to fruit - very sad!! Not that it will help my figure much!! :rotfl:

Treacle
01-07-2005, 15:52

01-07-2005, 15:56
My only craving was smoked salmon, I used to rush to M&S in my lunch break and get small packets. I would eat one there and then and another one on the bus on the way home. I sat up the back and tore the packed open with my teeth and ate it with my fingers. I did this every day the whole tiime I was pregnant and working with both pregnancies.

Treacle
01-07-2005, 15:58

Red grapes are the nicer - black ones I don't even bother with!!

Treacle
04-07-2005, 10:45
Not seen any black ones round here either.

Jojo
04-07-2005, 10:46
We have green, red (though more of a plum colour) and black ones. The black ones always have pips in though  . Red ones are really juicy, green ones a bit bland.

Treacle
04-07-2005, 11:01
I love green grapes though :D

I also love a good bucket of strawberries.

Jojo
04-07-2005, 11:07
You'll have to go to a Pick your Own, like I do - made loads of strawberry ice cream from fresh strawberries yesterday. Couldn't believe that 500g cost 2 quid odd, and I bought 2kg of them for 3.20!!

Treacle
04-07-2005, 11:11
There's a farm that grows them near where I live so I just go and pinch them.

di marco
04-07-2005, 11:36
i love strawberries! :) my mum said that we could go strawberry picking at some point as she used to do it when she was younger. i was quite sad when i got home from my performing arts lesson today and found that my mum hadnt bought any strawberries when she went shopping this morning :(

Jojo
04-07-2005, 11:39
There's a farm that grows them near where I live so I just go and pinch them. When I pick them, it tends to be one for me, one for my basket, so I end up having double what I have picked. There are about 3 pick your own farms around me, so I have a good choice!

di marco
04-07-2005, 11:43
yeh id be eating them as i picked them too! :)

04-07-2005, 11:50

04-07-2005, 11:51

04-07-2005, 11:52

No reason at all - i'm just a really picky eater and wont touch anything i havent tried before
Well how did you start eating in the first place then did you just remember what you liked being fed when you were little?

Luna
04-07-2005, 14:06
Yeah thats about it - I was brought up by my gran mostly who was a really picky eater too. So i only ate what she did. She has gotten worse over the years though. Anything that is reported in the newspapers as being bad for you she cuts it out of her diet. She is slowly running out of food to eat!!!

I did learn to eat pasta though which i thought was a big acheivement for me :D

Jojo

The great thing about Marmite (as long as you love it, not hate it!!) is that it has loads of folic acid in it :cheer:

I was addicted to it with my other 2 and at the beginning of this pregnancy, but gone right off of it now!

Food cravings and aversions are a normal part of life, but seem to intensify during pregnancy. Nutritionists believe that the craving is not for the food itself, but for what it contains and the effect it has on your body. Cravings can also be the result of a dietary imbalance. A high grain diet often produces wild cravings for fats and sweets. Those high in protein can bring on cravings for sugar, and high sugar consumption can make some individuals crave salt.

A craving is not a bad thing; it's a message from your body. If you are in tune enough, you will be able to respond to it appropriately. If a craving is allowed to turn into a regular binge, it could affect your health and the health of your baby.

During pregnancy you need all the right nutrients in the right proportion to stay healthy and help your baby to grow. It may be helpful to try and understand where cravings come from and the best ways to deal with them.

Here are some common cravings and what they may be telling you:

Apples Calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium. This is a pretty healthy craving. If you have a high-fat diet, your body may be craving the pectin for its ability to lower cholesterol.
Melon Potassium and vitamin A are its main nutrients. Canteloupes are also high in vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, biotin, and inositol - so go ahead, give into it.
Cheese Calcium, phosphorous and aluminium. Eat more broccoli and other green vegetables as a lower fat alternative.
Eggs Full of protein but also sulphur, amino acids, selenium and, in the yoke, fat. The white contains useful fat-dissolving choline. Often it's not the eggs, but the accompaniments (bacon, sausages etc) which are unhealthy. Vary your protein sources to include oily fish like salmon and mackerel and dried beans to ease the craving.
Milk Calcium is the obvious choice. But milk also contains useful amino acids such as tryptophan, leucine and lysine. As long as you're not allergic, allow yourself an extra glass.
Olives, pickles Sodium - your pregnant body needs more of it. Your body may also crave salt to balance excessive sugar intake.
Peanut butter/nuts B-vitamins, protein and fat. You need more of each when you are pregnant. A diet rich in oily fish will help diminish the craving and be lower in calories.
Diet dilemmas
Food cravings during pregnancy can sometimes present ethical problems as well. Many pregnant vegetarian women find they get uncontrollable cravings for meat. During pregnancy your requirements for protein are greater and a craving for meat may be a message from your body that it needs more first-class protein. There is no easy answer to this. Some women give in to the craving over the short-term and revert to strict vegetarianism after the birth. Others find that including fish or balancing pulses and grains in their diet boosts their protein intake. Including more eggs, milk or cheese in your diet is another way to provide good protein.

Finally, some women experience uncontrollable cravings for chocolate while they are pregnant. Chocolate is a complex food, which can bring about a complex series of biochemical reactions in the body. Chocolate, particularly dark chocolate, can be a useful source of magnesium and iron. So if you are craving chocolate, you may be slightly anaemic. Less sugary sources of these minerals include nuts, seeds, dates and figs (for magnesium) and red meat, eggs, nuts, seeds, beans and oatmeal (for iron).

Eating chocolate also stimulates the release of 'feel good' brain chemicals (called neurotransmitters) in the body; this combined with the immediate sugar boost, may help a woman who is tired or depressed to feel better, albeit for a short time.

Most commercially produced chocolate, however, is laced with additives and other undesirable synthetic chemicals (many of which are not listed on the label). So if occasionally you just have to give into the craving, try having organic chocolate as a somewhat healthier alternative.

A more positive approach to feeling good, however, would be to pursue a regular course of exercise and relaxation. If you're depressed you may want to consult a therapist to help you.

At the other end of the scale are aversions. As long as your diet contains a wide variety of foods, the odd aversion is unlikely to cause problems. However, if you suddenly develop an aversion to a food that is major source of nutrients for you, make sure you substitute other foods which will make up the deficit.

It is not uncommon for omnivorous women to suddenly develop an aversion to red meat during pregnancy. Like their vegetarian counterparts, as long as they are eating plenty of other protein foods (fish, cheese, nuts, tofu) and leafy green vegetables they too will be getting the iron and protein they require.

Isn't it strange how they can change so frequently though - one min, you want something sweet, next you can't stand it...the funniest thing with this one is that every time I have something to eat, it starts kicking - I don't know whether that means she/he likes what I am eating or not!!

Jojo
29-08-2005, 23:32
I also find that if something has slightly the wrong texture, I cannot swallow it no matter what - today for example, the swede was a little bit woody in places, and as soon as a woody bit touched my mouth, I thought I was going to bring it back up again. Its really weird!!
