Over on EastEnders, an important day for Dot arrives as she reaches her 50th anniversary of working at the launderette.

Dot initially fears that her milestone has passed everybody by, but she's later surprised by a party to celebrate the occasion.

Heather and Fatboy are among those who help to make her feel special, and there are more surprises in store when Dot is treated to a short trip away to Ireland and a plaque to commemorate her 50 years of service.

An EastEnders source commented: "After 50 years of washing the smalls of Albert Square's residents, Dot is really disappointed when she thinks that everyone has forgotten about her anniversary.

"However, unbeknown to her, they've planned a surprise party and gifts including a holiday to the Green Isle."

ALBERT Square veteran Dot Branning is delighted when a surprise party is thrown to mark her 50 years of washing smelly pants.

Hard-working Dot is feeling a little down because she thinks everyone has forgotten her 50th anniversary working in the launderette.

But she’s all smiles when she walks in for her shift and discovers what Heather Trott and Fatboy have organised.

The pair leave her speechless after presenting her with a plaque to commemorate her half-century and a surprise trip to Ireland.

Dot is chuffed to bits with the effort everyone has gone to and has to choke back the tears as she gives her emotional acceptance speech.

An EastEnders insider said: “Dot is convinced everyone has forgotten her special day.

“She’s spent weeks reminding those closest to her and has been leading up to it for months.

“She’s worked in the launderette through the good times and the bad.

“And the place wouldn’t really be the same without her. So it was only right this special anniversary was celebrated.

“Dot is one of the soap world’s best-loved characters and when you think of her you always get an image of her in those famous overalls.

“Everyone at the party gives Dot a real day to remember – but it’s the plaque that really gets to her.

“She’s absolutely over the moon with it and will be going on about it for months to come.”

Watch the touching scenes as Dot celebrates her half-century at the launderette on BBC 1 a week on Tuesday (October 11).

Monday

Zainab receives a voicemail from an impatient Amira, who is frustrated that her calls are being ignored. Yusef overhears the voicemail and suggests to Zainab that she should perhaps let Amira speak to Syed. However, Zainab isn't keen on this idea, explaining that if Syed is granted a divorce it will allow him to go ahead with his civil partnership plans, which she doesn't want. Putting a plan of his own into action, Yusef makes a phone call to Amira and suggests that they should meet.

Later, Denise tries to play peacemaker between Zainab and Masood, but her efforts lead to her arguing with Zainab. When Denise loudly refers to the recent 'suicide attempt', Zainab is mortified and rushes round to Yusef's surgery. Using Zainab's unsettled state to his own advantage, Yusef offers to call off his job interview in Pakistan so that he can stay with her. A grateful Zainab agrees this would be for the best. As the day continues, Yusef meets Amira as planned and is shocked when she introduces him to Yasmin, Syed's baby daughter…

Meanwhile, it's the day that Tanya's cancer treatment begins and she tells the radiographer that she's worried about losing her hair. However, Tanya is relieved to hear that she'll just experience some thinning of her hair. Later, Tanya prepares to undergo chemotherapy but gets cold feet, deciding that she can't go through with it. Fortunately, Lauren is there to support her mother and convinces her to see sense. Tanya also meets Siobhan, a fellow cancer patient, and they agree to be "text buddies" from now on.

Elsewhere, a tanned Shirley returns from holiday; Roxy is stunned to learn that Janine now owns her flat and is on a mission to make her life miserable; Whitney is ecstatic when she discovers she's got the job in the nursery; Christian decides to throw a surprise flat-warming party; Janine continues to flirt with Michael; and Ben realises that Shirley knows what happened while she was away but accepts him for who he is.

Tuesday

Syed goes to spend some time with his daughter, but with Amira being adamant that Christian is to have no contact with her, Syed is forced to keep his visit a secret.

Meanwhile, Mandy tries her best to wind Ian up, but her actions lead to dire consequences for Ian and his beloved car.

Elsewhere, Kat receives a phone call that sends her into a panic.

Also today, Tyler tries to plan the perfect night with Whitney, but old memories come back to haunt her.

Thursday
Meanwhile, the fallout of Mandy's behaviour makes Ian re-evaluate his life, but will he forgive her for her actions?

Elsewhere, Tanya continues to struggle with her radiotherapy and work and is forced to rely heavily on Lauren.

Also today, Whitney is upset after the events of the previous night, but when she goes to see Tyler, she is shocked to hear what he really thinks of her.

Friday
Lauren is worried about her mother and calls an old face to come back and help. However, things don't go to plan and Tanya is left feeling vulnerable.

Realising the severity of her mother's situation, Lauren is determined to let her hair down but ends up in a compromising situation with Tyler.

Meanwhile, Whitney is apprehensive about her relationship with Fatboy going from friends to boyfriend, but Fatboy is thrilled. However, it's clear that Tyler is extremely jealous.

Also today, Syed suspects that Ben has a crush on Christian, and Pat reveals her worries to Norman.

EastEnders landlady Kat Moon receives romantic advances from a delivery man named Mark next week, leaving her facing the temptation to cheat on husband Alfie.

Kat (Jessie Wallace) rejects Mark's advances when he tries to flirt with her at The Vic, but Alfie later annoys her by adopting a 'treat her mean, keep her keen' attitude towards their marriage - mistakenly believing that he'll impress his wife this way.

When Alfie (Shane Richie) takes things too far by completely rejecting romantic attention from Kat, she heads over to the R&R where she catches up with Mark (former Bill star Chris Simmons) again.

Mark quickly continues his attempts to flirt with Kat and points out that Alfie didn't look at her once when they were at The Vic earlier. Will Kat be wooed by Mark or will she stay faithful to Alfie?

EastEnders airs these scenes on Friday, October 14 at 8pm on BBC One.

Just not possible for any soap character in a steady relationship to stay faithful ... when are scriptwriters going to realise that not everybody cheats on their partner, even if they are going through a rocky patch :wall:
