I know some Emmerdale fans won't agree with me but I have no empathy for Aaron because the way the writers have written his character has made him very unlikable. What is there to like about Aaron? He is obnoxious, rude, and mean to just about everyone. He just comes across as this monster. Yes, it is sad Jackson is gone but the constant anguish and Aaron just reverting back to his bad habits isn't interesting. The writers seem to me to be just be focusing on Aaron's suffering for dramatic effect BUT I feel they aren't getting anywhere.
Another issue I have with the writers is the lack of mental health issues being addressed.Obviously Aaron is very depressed so why hasn't he attended a support group, or seen a psychologist or why hasn't Chaz or anyone taken him to see a doctor? I get that Aaron is an adult, but I am concerned about the message the writers are sending. This show doesn't seem to want to address mental health issues in a constructive way. Couldn't the writers write a scene with Aaron at a support group or seeing a psychologist?
The self harm stuff is also very disturbing. It seems to me the writers are just trying to be dramatic and get ratings but they also don't seem to realize impressionable people watch the show.
I find myself more interested in the other storylines on Emmerdale than Aaron's storyline. I get that the writers of Emmerdale are trying to show Aaron is a masculine gay man BUT I also feel the writers just don't want to deal with Aaron's sexuality anymore. I suspect this tortured routine will go on until the end of the year.
