It appears my email account has been hacked into and family and friends are getting spam from my account. :( Do I need to set up a new email account now? Not sure really what I need to do now. Grateful for any advice :)

Set up a new email account for your friends and family. Never use that address on the likes of Facebook which is full of links requesting your email address which they harvest and then send out messages purporting to be from you to everyone in your address book The trouble is that if your friend reply to these messages then their email address will also be hacked. Always use disposable email addresses when replying to anything on the internet

I have more than one email address - one I use for friends and family, one for FaceBook, and one to enter competitions with etc.

I do too, and I never open emails from unknown senders. Changed the password and created a new email account, it sucks though having to enter all the contact details again :(

This has happened to several people I know. Changing your password usually works, I don't think there's any need to abandon that account, unless it keeps happening. It's a good idea to make sure your new password is really secure.

I could nearl say 100% that your problem originated on Facebook.. There was a program on there which promised to tell you who had been looking at your page. If you entered your details then it hacked your address book and sent out spam to all your contacts

I don't answer any of those things on facebook, only tick the occasional 'Like' don't use it for anything else
