Derek has been bemoaning society's obsession with celebrity this afternoon.
"More value is attached to a celebrity than to a nurse," despaired Derek. "That's not the sort of society I want to live in."
"I thought the whole point of a meritocratic society was that people actually achieved recognition and admiration based on merit," he continued, perhaps forgetting for a moment that he is a contestant on a reality show.
Kemal cut in to state that for some people celeb worship was the best part of their lives. "The underprivileged find comfort in celebrities... It's like a new religion," he professed.
Regardless, Derek thought the trend would be the downfall of the country. "People want to achieve a great deal for no effort at all!" he sniped.
But the Tory wasn't letting it get to him too much. "Before it becomes an acute problem I will have snuffed out long ago and my ashes will be scattered over the hunting fields of England," the right-winger quipped.
So Derek won't be doing any glossy magazine interviews when he gets out then?
