CORRIE'S Ken Barlow will be left for dead after being viciously attacked - by his own grandson James.
Charity worker James shows his dark side when he forges Ken's signature and takes out a huge loan against No 1 Coronation Street.
When Ken - played by 79-year-old William Roache - finds the grandson he has started to dote on has robbed him he is devastated.
But when he tries to call the police, James - William's real-life son James, 25 - knocks him out, sending him crashing to the floor. James then panics and flees. Ken is found by Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride), who is distraught.
Gay James came into Ken's life last year as his long-lost grandson - moving in with the Barlows while he worked for the homeless charity.
And it is the charity who put him up to the scam - so they can buy a halfway house.
But No 1 has been home to the Barlows since the 1970s. So when trusting Ken finds he could lose his home if he can't keep up extortionate repayments, he rages at James: "How could you do it?
"You come into my house as a guest, as my grandson, as my own flesh and blood - and then set about robbing my family of everything we've ever worked for.
"You're nothing but a cheap conman, a two-bit crook!"
Furious James replies: "I'd rather be a crook than a doddering old hypocrite like you."
A source said: "It'll be weird for James watching himself punching his dad, but they're gripping scenes."
