The premiere of MTV's new reality show Geordie Shore included the housemates having a fist fight in a club, one night stands and nudity in a shared hot tub.

A spinoff from the successful US series Jersey Shore, the programme features four girls and four guys from the North-East living and partying together under the same roof.

Last night's opening instalment proved to be as controversial as its US counterpart with "self-confessed professional poser" James Tindale ending up in a scuffle on their first group night out. The gym fanatic lashed out at a man who was performing rude hand gestures behind his back while he was kissing a girl. His co-star Greg Lake also joined in the fight, which spilled on to the venue's dancefloor.

Sophie Kasaei introduced herself to the show by getting drunk immediately on arrival at the house and vomiting on the bathroom floor. Meanwhile, Holly Hagan, who has a boyfriend, flashed her boobs in a hot tub and allowed the boys to pour champagne over them.

Gaz Beadle brought two women back to the show's special "sh*g pad" room and spent the night with them, before hooking up with co-star Charlotte later in the episode.

Vicky Pattison and Jay Gardiner were also shown sharing a kiss in a bedroom, but she later claimed that she was more interested in gas man Greg.

The cast have claimed that their show will be better than Jersey Shore and revealed to DS that the "boob flashing and fighting" in the premiere was "the tip of the iceberg".

Geordie Shore continues next Tuesday at 10pm on MTV.

I spotted straight away that the girls were not Geordies. Not due to their accents, but to their appearance. Geordie girls have more tattoos, pieces noses and at least half a head of scarlet hair.

Geordie Shore series two has been given the premiere date of January 31 by MTV.

The hit North-East England-based Jersey Shore spinoff returns for a second run, following the antics of Newcastle's biggest party animals.

Boys Jay Gardner, Gaz Beadle, James Tindale and girls Vicky Pattison, Holly Hagan, Sophie Kasaei and Charlotte-Letitia Crosby will all return to their luxury loft apartment, alongside two new cast members.

All nine stars will be made to work for their luxury lifestyle by operating a mobile tanning booth in Newcastle, "so they can make sure the rest of the North East are as tanned as they are".

Series one star Greg Lake quit the show earlier this year and is currently pursuing other TV projects.

Geordie Shore launched in May, earning record ratings for MTV, and has already spurned successful summer holiday spinoff Magaluf Madness. However, the reality show faced criticism from local MPs over its representation of Newcastle.

Geordie Shore series two launches on January 31 at 10pm on MTV.
