as you know i am pregnant,i have had chicken pox before but is it safe to come into contact with a child who has had it last week? the spots have scabbed over so its supposedly meant to be safe but is it?
also my 15 month old son hasnt had it yet and we go on holiday wednesday so i didnt want him to get it before we go or whilst there,im planning to get daddy to take him for a walk when this child enters the house but do the germs linger? will be breathing in contaminated air when he comes back even though the childs gone?
help, need some advice before tomorrow morn at 11am!

Luckily I've never had it. Does that mean I can still catch it?

yeh i think it does. i had it 3 times when i was younger, i thought you could only catch it once so obviously i was very unlucky!

My son had chicken pox in March for his 21st Birthday, it made him very ill, that is the only child hood illness he has had and that waited till he was 21.He even had the spots inside his mouth and ears, and down below well thats another story.

My hubby had it 4 years ago, 2 weeks after Stephen had it - spots appeared in every possible oriface (sp?) and he spent his entire time in a calamine bath. Shingles is caught from the same virus aswell, which can be really nasty!

I had to look at this link to feel and get along with my brother, and play with him again. Its really good it tells you about all the causes. HERE IS THE LINK:

Hope this helps since it helped me. By the way my sister had it then my brother had it two weeks after on his birthday... so no one came. He didn't go school for two weeks. Its so much better to have it young so you don't remember much trust me!! WQ you do have a chance of still getting it and they say you can only catch it once and then when your in your golden ages to catch it again.. thats when you practically can't walk.

i thought you could only catch it once too, my biology teacher said that you could only have it once, but i managed to have it 3 times! :(

Majority of people only get it once, cause that one occasion normally acts like a vaccine - your body builds antibodies to prevent it returning, but it doesn't always happen. You can get shingles after having chicken pox too, and the virus is much the same

yeh my biology teacher said it was cos its the same virus each time so once youve had it once you have a lifelong vaccine against it, he was quite shocked when i asked him how come id had it 3 times, he didnt know what to say

Its just like when you have your jabs - peoples bodies mostly build a vaccine against the illness, but there is the minority that don't.......did you have it close together??

I doubt your body had a chance to create its own vaccine against it by that time and thats why you have had it so much. I know of others the same.

I had chicken pox when I was five, still got a few pox marks on my leg where I couldn't resist picking them. I got shingles when I was 25 through stress, that was worse then the chicken pox. But didn't catch chicken pox again in march when my son had it. Back in the late 50's when I was little, mums would have chicken pox and measles parties so the kids got it over with when they were little. :rotfl:
