no no no what if they are wrong and it is a boy and not a girl

hannah-mj
19-06-2005, 00:00
well at least its only a few things youve bought , my mums friend bought everything for a girl , the bed the clothes & even decorated the room but then it ended up being a boy.......so lets just hope its a girl! x x x

Treacle
19-06-2005, 00:04
I was always telling my friends and family to buy neutral colours and no dresses etc but they would always see cute things in the shop and buy it. Luckily my second baby turned out to be a girl so they got it right. However they got tons of dresses the first time round as well only it turned out to be a boy.

twinkle_eyes83
19-06-2005, 00:07
i no i have always got unisex things its only this once i got something for a girl roll round 7 weeks then i can find out if she or he can wear it

Treacle
19-06-2005, 00:34
LOL, you should have asked at your scan :)

true.moon
19-06-2005, 08:43
do you want the sex of the baby to be a surprise then?

Treacle
19-06-2005, 12:47
I didn't have a choice with mine, the woman blurted it out :)

twinkle_eyes83
19-06-2005, 20:04
they did say it was a girl but you never no it could turn out wrong

Treacle
19-06-2005, 20:30
It's not often they get it wrong though but it has been known.

Jojo
20-06-2005, 11:03
Boys are a lot easier to distinguish (obviously) but girls aren't all that much different apparently and a lot depends on how they are laying when you have the scan. I want to find out what I am having this time. I found out with my youngest, but not my first.

Treacle
20-06-2005, 14:54
The surprise is always nice though.

true.moon
23-06-2005, 18:28
i would want to know because i wouldnt want to get my hopes up
i would be able to think of a name
and decorate the room
buy some clothes

di marco
23-06-2005, 20:53
i wouldnt want to know, id want it to be a surprise. it would be a challenge, seeing if i could go the whole pregnancy without knowing, im so impatient but i think this is something that id make myself not know

Treacle
23-06-2005, 22:12
It is a challenge but it's manageable.

Jojo
24-06-2005, 12:05
i wouldnt want to know, id want it to be a surprise. it would be a challenge, seeing if i could go the whole pregnancy without knowing, im so impatient but i think this is something that id make myself not knowI managed it with Stephen. Wanted to know with Ciaran though, cause was hoping for a girl. Even though I was slightly disappointed, I was just glad that he was ok with no problems, which is the main thing at the end of the day. However, with all of this testerone surrounding me now, I am really hoping for girl and I am getting lots of gut feelings that it is a girl, so I'm gonna find out so I can make sure I am prepared if she is a he. You can go without knowing though. I'm just impatient and want to know if my hubby is a "real" man, cause apparently the more testerone you have as a man, the more likely you are to have a girl!!

Treacle
24-06-2005, 16:13
That's interesting I never knew that :)

Jojo
24-06-2005, 16:33
Problem is I keep winding him about how he isn't a real man!!!! :rotfl:

Treacle
26-06-2005, 04:17

I heard the myth that if you concieve whilst standing up then you're more likely to have a boy.

Jojo
27-06-2005, 11:03
The only one I heard was that if you do it a couple of days before ovulation, you are more likely to have a girl, cause they swim for longer and outlive the males - a bit like normal life really then!!!

Treacle
27-06-2005, 14:54
When labour started with me 2nd I jumped in the bath to soothe the pain. Didn't work though.

Luna
27-06-2005, 14:54
That crocodile guy fromt he tv. Steven something (sorry cant remember his name)said that they had a boy because they had heard of keeping his testicals cold for about a wekk before trying.

Oooo errrr :hmm:

Btw it's Steve Irwin lol :D

Luna
27-06-2005, 14:59
Thanks couldn't for the life of remember his name. But he'd walk about with just very breezy shorts on and then sit with ice packs and frozen peas at night

Treacle
27-06-2005, 15:00
Was he that desperate to have a boy lol?

Luna
27-06-2005, 15:02
Yeah i think he was. He was always going on about it. Did you ever see the picture when he had the baby in the crocodile cage with him? And the croc was going after the baby? Well that was his most wanted son lol

Jojo
27-06-2005, 16:08
The cooler the temperature of the testicles the more chance of conception is a definite one. When we were trying with the others, hubby wore no undies and we conceived on the pill and within 2 weeks of trying. With this one, he was wearing undies, didn't conceive for 6 months and as soon as he removed his undies, 2 weeks later I'm pregnant. Apparently, they don't like it too hot in there!!!

Treacle
27-06-2005, 16:21
LOL, it's all a strange system isn't it? I don't think hubby ever made his balls cooler though.

Jojo
27-06-2005, 16:29
It could have been coincidence, could have been the old legs in the air trick though!!!!!!! :rotfl:

Treacle
27-06-2005, 16:38
LOL :D To be honest you shouldn't really want a particular gender just a healthy baby but there's always a preference in the majority of cases. This time I'm not sure though.

Jojo
27-06-2005, 16:40
I would love to have a girl, but as I have already had 2 boys, I am fully expecting another boy. Like you say, at the end of the day, as long as they are healthy, its all that matters and should matter.

Treacle
27-06-2005, 18:09
Exactly. I was lucky to get one of each but now I'm going to have two little girlies. This baby's gender wasn't really important to me because I knew I had a son and a daughter already.

Jojo
28-06-2005, 14:06
I just think to myself, that if it is another boy, I have got three strapping lads (aswell as hubby) to look after me when I am older!!

Treacle
28-06-2005, 22:47
Yeah lol. Be nice for you to have a little girl though - all that testosterone (sp?).

Jojo
29-06-2005, 15:26
Either that, or I'll have to try and persuade one of my lads that growing their hair long and allowing me to plait it, and shopping are the best things in life !! :rotfl:

Luna
29-06-2005, 15:27

eeerrrrrmmm......dont think that will work lol

Jojo
29-06-2005, 15:29
Nah, they may have severe problems in life if I did that!! I'm just happy with whatever I'm given :)

P.S. Please be a girl, please be a girl!!!

Jojo
29-06-2005, 15:44
lol I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. When do you find out? Are you going to find out?Got my 21 week scan on 28th July and as long as little one is obliging, I will be asking and then posting!! Desperate to know so if it is another boy, I won't be too down in the dumps about it. But as long as its healthy, thats the main thing and as I've started to feel it moving today (albeit kicking me in the bladder etc, rather than the traditional popping bubbles!!) I'm even more excited and really, to be honest don't care. Part of me is hoping though!!

Debs
29-06-2005, 18:20
good luck with scan ill keep my fingers crossed for you! so you hope it a girl this time! i thik boys are better!!

Jojo
30-06-2005, 09:37
good luck with scan ill keep my fingers crossed for you! so you hope it a girl this time! i thik boys are better!!Boys are great, very loving, I don't worry so much now Stephen (the eldest) is out all of the time etc, but with all of the testosterone, what with my 2 boys and the hubby (who all seem to suffer a variation of PMT at the same time each month  ) it would be nice to have a girl to balance things out a bit.

Treacle
30-06-2005, 13:25
You can never know though debs until you have one of each. That's the best way to find out

Jojo
30-06-2005, 13:28
I'd keep going till I had a girl if I could, but hubby won't let me....took 2 years to persuade him to let me have this one!!! And he says I am definitely not allowed to have any more, girl or not!

Treacle
30-06-2005, 13:28

Oh prick some holes in the condom with a pin and that way you'll get a leak he won't know about :D

Jojo
30-06-2005, 13:36
He won't use em though I've said I'm not going to take anything for a while after this one is born. Want to give my body an extra long break from it all. Been taking the pill etc for far too long.

Treacle
30-06-2005, 13:39
Tell him you can't take the pill anymore because it's making you feel bad then make him wear a condom in bed when you go back to lovemaking and make sure you prick tiny holes in it with a pin. Trust me it'll work a treat and you may get the little girl you dream of well after 7 or 8 more boys lol, there is a downside but any baby is lovely :D

Jojo
30-06-2005, 13:41
I love children and pregnancy full stop - if I knew I could do it, I would be a surrogate!! (But I know I wouldn't be able to hand the baby over at the end).

The best one is that he doesn't like them, so before he decided he would use withdrawal - that would be an easy way of catching if he did that again

Treacle
30-06-2005, 13:53
I could never be a surrogate mum. I would take the money and the baby and run :D :D :D

Jojo
30-06-2005, 13:57
I wouldn't be able to have the mindset to say to myself that the baby wasn't really mine. Couldn't do it.

Treacle
30-06-2005, 13:58
Nor could I. Money is good though so I'd make sure I got both somehow :D

Jojo
30-06-2005, 14:01
  Me too....

Treacle
30-06-2005, 14:11
I'd make the arrangements so the baby stayed with me until I got out of hospital then when I was discharged I would give them the wrong time and then I would catch a flight to Spain with the dosh in my bank.

Jojo
30-06-2005, 14:12
Good plan!!

Luna
30-06-2005, 14:13
lol - youd never get away with it - plus i dont think you get paid in this country

Treacle

Jacqui Dixon did on Brookside when she had a baby for the Farnhams.

Treacle
30-06-2005, 14:15
lol - youd never get away with it - plus i dont think you get paid in this country
Plus I would get away with it and it would be an illegal plan :D

Luna
30-06-2005, 14:16
lol - but that was done secretly - not through any docs or anything

Luna
30-06-2005, 14:18
Plus I would get away with it and it would be an illegal plan :D

lol - the only way i would do that is if it was for a family member and i'd still be able to have contact with the baby

Treacle
30-06-2005, 14:23
Yes but I wouldn't put it through the docs either.

Luna
30-06-2005, 14:24
Turkey baster (sp?) at the ready then lol

Treacle
30-06-2005, 14:25
Ewwww

Luna
30-06-2005, 14:28
Well thats how jackie done it lol

Treacle
30-06-2005, 14:29
I would do a Jacqui Dixon though she ended up with the baby in the end too!

Luna
30-06-2005, 14:39
Yeah but with Max

Treacle
30-06-2005, 14:42
That's true  Still he wasn't the ugliest member of the cast.

Luna
30-06-2005, 14:43

Treacle
30-06-2005, 14:51
The mentalist.

Luna
30-06-2005, 14:56
lol yeah but then again it could have been for someone a lot worse i suppose

Treacle
30-06-2005, 15:04
Yeah I thought they were getting desperate when they got Jackie Corkhill up the duff.

Jojo
30-06-2005, 20:02
I didn't watch Brookie.

Treacle
01-07-2005, 01:59
I did but that's a whole different topic :D

Treacle
01-07-2005, 02:00
I think letting your child be fostered briefly would be hard enough if you were ill etc let alone having a baby and giving it away.

Jojo
01-07-2005, 09:42
I find it bad enough leaving them with my mum for a bit or when Stephen goes away with the school for a week, so knowing that they were with another family etc, that were probably being over nice to them because of the situation etc, would be unbearable. After feeling something growing like we are, there is no way I would be able to give it up!!

Treacle
01-07-2005, 15:57
My kids are spending more time with my parents because I'm so tired at the moment not that I help myself by sleeping very little.

They've always stayed there at weekends. Not when they were babies but when they got older they started. When they were babies I would hate to leave them for a second.

Everytime they're not with me I miss them. They make me laugh. Funny things kids aren't they? The things they say! Yes it's nice when they're babies and they depend on you but they're funnier when they start to talk to you. They have such an innocent and humouress outlook on the world and you are one of the ones they depend on to answer their little questions. It's always why this and why that.

Jojo
01-07-2005, 16:04
But I think the amazing thing about children is how good a judge of character they are. They are very perceptive to peoples feelings, like if someone doesn't like children, they tend to stay away from them and not talk to them....

And the dependancy lasts, or at least it has so far with my eldest, which makes me feel good too

Treacle
01-07-2005, 16:06
Yes they are so innocent though but they can be as sharp as knives sometimes.

Jojo
01-07-2005, 16:07
I find it amazing that Ci has so much wit about him. He must pick up on it from us, but his sense of humour is hilarious - you wouldn't think he was only 3!

Treacle
01-07-2005, 16:10
Yes. Mine are always making me laugh and have done since they were 2.

Jojo
01-07-2005, 16:15
My godmother used to say that they were a tonic and it is so true.

If you are down in the dumps, you know for sure that they will either make you laugh, cry with laughter or will tell you it really doesn't matter..

Treacle
04-07-2005, 10:40
They are nice when they are little babies but you can't beat it when they start to talk.

Jojo
04-07-2005, 10:44
Ciaran is so cheeky though.....he's 3 and you ask him a question, so he puts his had under his chin and goes "ummm, let me think about it.....ummmmm......no!!" and then starts laughing - he's hilarious!

Treacle
04-07-2005, 10:46
Well their favourite word is usually no at that age lol.

Luna
04-07-2005, 10:47
Not going to teach my kids (when or if i have them) that no word

Jojo
04-07-2005, 10:48
Especially when trying to get him to give up his blooming dummy.

Since falling pregnant again, he has reverted back to having it, and won't let the thing go.......I'm going to be throwing it in the bin very shortly - the entire UK will hear his screams!!!

Luna
04-07-2005, 10:53
My nephew was like that my sister had to tell him that santa wont come to boys over the age of three that still use their dummy. Now she tells him every year that santa wont come if he doesn't clear out all his old toys and give them either to charity or to the local hospital. And it works everytime

Jojo
04-07-2005, 10:58
I can't work with that one though, cause he knows that Father Christmas is bringing him a new brother or sister - would be a bit rotten to say, but he will only bring the baby if you give up your dummy....

We have been hiding it over the weekend - out of sight, out of mind and all that, but hubby decided to let him come downstairs with it this morning, so now I have a battle on my hands!!

Treacle
04-07-2005, 11:02
My kids gave up the dummy when they were almost 2!!! I've heard that's quite early.

Jojo
04-07-2005, 11:05
Thats good going. Apparently, the earlier, the better cause they don't get so attached (like I am now finding out lol)

Treacle
04-07-2005, 11:10
I weaned my son off his dummy when he was nearly 2 so I tried the same with my little girl and it worked. My friends daughter Katie still has hers now though and she's 5.

04-07-2005, 17:27
i managed to get rid of nialls at 3 1/2!!! with a lot of help from my friends son!!!

i saw the strangest sight when i picked up one of my friends kids from school a couple of years ago they were in reception so about 4 or 5 and one of the kids came out and his mum gave him a dummy and he stood in the playground with it stuck in his mouth i was just shocked!!!

He was a spoilt brat.

willow
05-07-2005, 07:32
He was a spoilt brat.

that reminds me of the advert for ready brek where the kid is in reins!!! do you know wich one i mean?

Jojo
05-07-2005, 10:41
I know the one Willow. Ciaran is a big lad for 3 and always has been but unfortunately it meant that when he was still in his pushchair at 18 months/2 years people were really looking down at me as if to say why isn't he walking!! If they asked I would have told them his true age and that he didn't take his first steps till he was 18 months. He does look a year older than he is though - bless.

I've seen kids in school uniforms being pushed in pushchairs and with their dummies on their way to school. They appear to have normal buggies aswell. It doesn't matter if there is a medical reason as to why they are being pushed, but the dummy, as brill as they are, its got to go. Ci never has his outside of the house, thats for sure.

Treacle
06-07-2005, 01:02
The dummy always worked a treat though for me. The first sound and I'd stick it in.

willow
06-07-2005, 07:18
oh yes, they are fab both of mine had/have dummys, they are gret and a lot easier to get rid of than a thumb

Jojo
06-07-2005, 10:11
Yep, all of mine have had them, though Ste got rid of his a lot earlier. Ci had really bad wind, though not quite colic when he was tiny and was a really "sucky" baby, so it was an absolute god send then! I would always recommend them, cause as you say willow, you can't throw a thumb in the bin, and I know people that still suck them in their teenage years and older!!

willow
07-07-2005, 09:15
they are fab, another thing is that you can keep them clean, we all know where fingers go!!! one tip i have been given but not tried is giving the dummy to the post box or leaving it out for santa and getting a special little pressie back, my sister sucks her thumb not so much now as we all shout at her for doing it, well she is 25!!!!

Treacle
08-07-2005, 12:30
I can't be doing with all that noise. I had the dummy in right away.

09-07-2005, 09:28
My old health visitor gave me mine - she was brill. Only problem was when she left, my new health visitor had a go at me for Ci having a dummy!!! She said a lot of other stuff aswell, like Ci will be bullied when he starts school, and it was my fault that he hadn't had a check up by the hospital or any other medical staff after he had sceptacemic meningitis (sp?) and basically made me feel like a crap mum - needless to say a complaint went in and I will now have a new one with this baby!! :searchme:  Are they allowed to speak to us like this??

willow
09-07-2005, 09:30

09-07-2005, 10:29
I left it to start off with cause I thought, at least I wouldn't have to have any contact with her again, but as soon as I fell pregnant, I went to see them to tell them I had to have a different HV and the reasons why - the head HV was pretty shocked, though I don't know if she has asked my old HV about any of it.

I was just lucky that I wasn't suffering from Post Natal Depression, cause as it stood, I wanted to go home and open a bottle of vodka - if I was suffering from depression, it could well have tipped me over the edge. I am just very lucky that my hubby fully supports me and got me through it!

i bought dummy for both of mine just in case but i never really bothered with them,id stick in there mouths and theyd gob it back out most of the time so they never really took to them or a thumb which is great.they are ok up to the age of 2 or so but after that when you see kids with em still stuck in there mouths i think it looks silly.

Jojo
09-07-2005, 15:06
I agree - Ci hasn't had his outside of the house since he was about 20 months/2 years. And now its restricted to his bedroom, although the last few weeks, probably cause of all of the talk of the new baby, daddy has been allowing him to have it more...

Treacle

My HV was a meddling cow, she kept going on about how breast milk was best etc. I telt her to sling her hook.

Jojo
13-07-2005, 11:01
I'm waiting to see the what the new one will be like, and if I don't like her, she's gone aswell - you have got to be able to talk to them and trust them, otherwise they aren't going to be of any help to you when you need it!!

Treacle

I always say that whatever your most comfortable with is the best for the baby.

One of my friends was forced into trying to breast feed for 4 days after the baby was born the midwifes where getting fustrated with her and getting angry when the baby refused to latch on. Turns out the baby had a deformity (sp) in her tounge (which ran in the family). Could they have checked this before??? And stop all the destress that she and the baby went through?

It develops naturally. If it's your first you're bound to be a bit vague on what to do but of course you soon pick up on it straight away.
