Emmerdale star Kelsey-Beth Crossley has confirmed that she is leaving the Dales-based soap.

Crossley, who has portrayed Scarlett Nicholls since 2007, revealed via her Twitter page that she was waiting for news on an audition.

The 18-year-old posted: "The most stressful part of auditions is waiting for a verdict! Ahh ha! X (sic)."

When asked if this meant she was leaving Emmerdale, Crossley confirmed that she would be exiting the show.

After a series of well wishers contacted her, she added: "Thanks guys, had to announce because I didn't know how to reply to the tweets asking about storylines. Love you all and the support xxxxxx."

Crossley is one of a number of actors to confirm their departure from Emmerdale in recent months, with Suzanne Shaw recently announcing that she is leaving after a year on the programme.

I find Scarlett alright. She just hasn't had a lot to do since her split with Jason and Chas and Carl splitting up. It would have been nice if her and Chas bought the Wooley. Good luck to her.

Emmerdale returnee Kelsey-Beth Crossley has promised that viewers can expect "a bit of drama" from her character Scarlett Nicholls when she arrives back in the village.

Scarlett is back on screen tomorrow evening (October 31) in the build-up to the funeral of her half-brother Carl King (Tom Lister), who was killed off in the soap's live episode earlier this month.

Crossley's alter ego will be back in Emmerdale for a handful of episodes, and she is expected to challenge Charity Sharma's attempts to take over the Kings' haulage firm.

Revealing how her return came about, Crossley told The Wright Stuff today (October 30): "I was at a party actually, and I found out that Tom was going, and I was in shock. Everyone knows he's a really well-loved character and I think everyone was a little bit like, 'What are they doing? Why?'

"But sometimes it has to be people who people really care about [who are killed off], otherwise it's not the best TV, is it?

"I'm back for ten episodes, but I get to squish a bit of drama in during that time. It's been so brilliant. It's just like a family and everyone gets on so well. I've missed everyone so much this year."

Asked whether she would make a more permanent return, the actress replied: "Well, they didn't ask me, to be honest! It's great to go in and be free to do other things, because I've got some great auditions coming up as well. I'm happy."

Viewers can also expect a new look for Scarlett when she returns, as Crossley has lost three stone during her time away from the soap.

She said: "I wasn't really that happy [with my weight] and I was getting a bit of criticism from the media, from the public. It happens, I understand. I realised myself that I wasn't that happy with it, so I joined the gym and joined Slimming World and I feel a lot happier now."

Crossley bowed out from the role of Scarlett last year.
