View Full Version : Vanessa and Darren to leave 'EastEnders'
EastEnders stars Zöe Lucker and Charlie G. Hawkins are to bow out from the soap later this year, Digital Spy can confirm.
The pair, who play Vanessa Gold and Darren Miller on the BBC show, will film their final scenes in the coming months ahead of on-screen exits in the summer.
Vanessa has been tipped for an explosive departure storyline as her stint as Max Branning's latest love interest comes to a close, while details of how Darren's seven-year stay in Albert Square will end have yet to be revealed.
Confirming Lucker's departure, a show spokesperson told DS: "Zöe was brought into EastEnders for a storyline playing Max's love interest and will go out with a bang. Zöe has done a fabulous job of bringing the character of Vanessa to life and the door has been left wide open for her return."
A Walford insider added: "Vanessa has proved to be a popular character and although her exit storyline will be explosive, there is every belief that she may return to the Square in the future."
Meanwhile, in a statement released confirming his decision to depart, Hawkins thanked the EastEnders team and executive producer Bryan Kirkwood.
The 20-year-old commented: "I've enjoyed my time at EastEnders immensely, it's been a terrific chapter in my life and I've loved every minute of it.
"I've had tremendous support throughout my duration on the show and I would like to thank Bryan and the whole team for believing in me."
Lucker, previously best known for her role as superbitch Tanya Turner in Footballers' Wives, has been with EastEnders for a year, while Hawkins has been part of the cast since late 2004.
DS can also confirm that Kylie Babbington, who plays ditzy Jodie Gold, is sticking with the soap despite the departures of her on-screen mum and boyfriend.
That's a shame actually, I like both of these characters although I think Vanessa has had weak storylines. She could have been alot better but it's always got to be about Max and Tanya! I like Darren too.

I've warmed to both of them. Funny that Jodie is staying though. But it could work. She is funny. (although not as funny as Honey was)

They are not the worst characters shame they are leaving
Charlie G. Hawkins has quit 'EastEnders'.
The 20-year-old actor - who plays wheeler-dealer car salesman Darren Miller - has decided to depart the BBC1 soap after over seven years so he can "chill out" and relax into normal life.
He told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "I was to chill out and enjoy being a normal 20 year old.
"It is a very weird feeling to know I won't be on the show in a few months.
"To be honest, I can barely remember life before 'EastEnders'. It will be great having no structure to my life and not having to learn lines. I'm really looking forward to that.
"I've got some savings so I might end up just bumming around for a while. All I spend my money on is an Arsenal season ticket so I could last quite a long time."
While details of Darren's exit storyline have not been disclosed, Charlie has asked for the door to be left open for his character to return in the future.
Charlie's decision to quit the programme comes just weeks after he spoke of his desire to become the show's longest serving actor and eclipse Adam Woodyatt, who has played Maserati-driving businessman Ian Beale since the show began in February 1985.
Charlie said: "I've been on 'EastEnders' for eight years already and I'm only 20.
"You could say I have got my eyes on the Maserati."

Charlie is silly to think about bummy around as he calls it for a while. He would be etter looking for other acting roles because if he leaves it too long he will join the rest of has-been soap stars on endless reality tv shows. Look at his on screen big brother for starters.
Zöe Lucker has promised that there are exciting times ahead for her EastEnders character Vanessa Gold before she makes her departure from Walford.
Bosses at the soap recently announced that Vanessa will be leaving Albert Square in an "explosive" exit storyline later this year.
Speaking on Loose Women today, Lucker confirmed that she is pleased with the plans in store for her alter ego, who first appeared on screen in June 2010.
Asked whether viewers have not yet seen the "full force" of Vanessa, the star replied: "Yeah, definitely. There's so much to come. I was only supposed to go in for seven eps originally, and that relationship with Max was then supposed to facilitate Tanya and Max getting back together again.
"I think because they quite liked the relationship between Max and Vanessa, they then carried it out and carried it out."
Lucker revealed that Vanessa already suspects Max still has feelings for Tanya, who is now married to builder Greg Jessop.
The actress said: "She's savvy and she does know what's going on. The sad thing, the tragic thing about the character is that she realises there's not really anywhere else for her to go.
"She left everything to be with Max and now she's here, she moved away from this mansion, she's living in Albert Square and because she is devoted to Max and really in love with him, she's got to put up with it, really."
"I'm there until autumn time, so I've got lots and lots of really good stuff to film before the departure," she added. "I'm looking forward to it."
Producers have confirmed that Lucker's on-screen daughter Kylie Babbington (Jodie) will be sticking with EastEnders for the foreseeable future.
I quite like Vanessa but I'm not so bothered about Darren. I don't see Jodie lasting long without them on screen.
EastEnders star Kylie Babbington has promised that her character Jodie Gold will still have reasons to stay in Walford following the departures of her on-screen mum and boyfriend.
Last month, it was announced that Vanessa Gold and Darren Miller - played by Zöe Lucker and Charlie G. Hawkins respectively - will both be leaving the soap later this year.
However, speaking on This Morning today, Babbington explained that Jodie will still have a place on Albert Square for the foreseeable future.
She teased: "I'll be staying on the Square. There's reasons for me to stay, but that can't be revealed yet."
Asked whether there could be a new love interest for Jodie on the horizon, she replied: "We'll see, won't we?"
Babbington also confirmed that Jodie's ditzy friend Poppy Meadow will be making a return in the coming weeks. Poppy previously appeared in two episodes back in January.
"She's just come back and I've been filming some stuff with her, which is lovely - some quite comical stuff," Babbington said.
Hawkins, who was also interviewed on the morning show, said that he will be filming at EastEnders for another three months.
Asked about his departure storyline, he said: "I'm waiting to be told. I'm quite excited to find out! Hopefully I'll find out next week."

The last member of one of soap's most colourful families is preparing to say goodbye.
And that means it's unlikely EastEnders fans will ever see the Miller clan back on their screens.
That's the belief of David Spinx, who played the slovenly patriarch of the Albert Square clan for four years.
His on-screen son, Charlie G Hawkins (Darren), leaves the show later this year. His departure will mean there are no more Millers in Albert Square.
Despite doing plenty of challenging stage work since leaving the soap, David would clearly love to go back to playing layabout Keith.
But he sees Charlie's departure as proof he will not get to return.
He told Inside Soap: "Darren is indeed the last of the Millers, so I don't know how that works out for the rest of us who might have wanted to return at some point.
"It would have been nice if he'd had a little wedding and we could've all turned up and had a reunion. I enjoyed my time on EastEnders immensely, and of course I'd go back."
EastEnders character Vanessa Gold has an "exciting" storyline in store before she makes her departure from Walford, executive producer Bryan Kirkwood has promised.
Show bosses recently announced that Vanessa will be leaving Albert Square in late 2011, bringing Zöe Lucker's stint with the programme to a close after a year in the role.
Fans already know that Vanessa is heading for heartbreak as her partner Max Branning is to embark on an affair with ex-wife Tanya in a forthcoming storyline.
However, in a new interview, Kirkwood explained that Vanessa will come into her own once she splits from Max.
"People had better duck for cover when Vanessa finds out that she's been betrayed again," Kirkwood told Inside Soap. "She stood by her ex-husband Harry for years and in no time at all, she finds herself in the very same situation with Max.
"The end of that relationship doesn't mean the end of Vanessa, though. She's got a really exciting storyline still in store. It kicks off over the summer and there's a big change of direction for the character that will really give Vanessa some momentum for the time she's got left in Albert Square."
He added: "I love Zöe Lucker - she's fantastic and I'm really glad that she's getting a proper chance to shine."
Lucker recently said that she has "lots of really good stuff to film" before making her EastEnders exit.
They always promise exciting exit storylines, most of them are predictable and boring, such as finding out their partner has cheated :(

"It would have been nice if he'd had a little wedding and we could've all turned up and had a reunion. I enjoyed my time on EastEnders immensely, and of course I'd go back."
Of course he's desparate to return to the show he hasn't worked since.
EastEnders star Zöe Lucker has predicted that her character Vanessa Gold will not let go of her relationship with Max Branning without a fight.
Vanessa has been tipped for heartbreak in the months ahead as show bosses have confirmed that Max will soon embark on an affair with his ex-wife Tanya, played by Jo Joyner.
Max's (Jake Wood) betrayal is likely to shock Vanessa as the couple start making wedding plans in next week's episodes, which she hopes is a turning point for their relationship.
Pondering the pair's rocky future, Lucker told All About Soap: "If it came to it, she'd definitely fight to keep him!"
However, asked whether Vanessa will want revenge when she discovers that Max has cheated, the actress replied: "We haven't seen that side to Vanessa, but I think she's pretty tough and if pushed, who knows how far she'd actually go?"
Lucker is leaving EastEnders later this year but is currently keeping tight-lipped over Vanessa's exit storyline.
"I couldn't possibly say [what it is] as it's much too early to reveal anything, but it will be exciting stuff," she promised. "Vanessa is trying hard to make Max realise that she is the right woman for him. What lengths will she go to in order to keep her man?"
EastEnders' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood recently teased that "people had better duck for cover when Vanessa finds out that she's been betrayed again".
EastEnders actress Zöe Lucker has confirmed that viewers will see a more "vulnerable" side to her character Vanessa Gold in next week's episodes.
Monday's edition of the BBC soap will see Vanessa have an emotional heart-to-heart with her partner Max Branning (Jake Wood) in the early hours, asking him whether he still loves his ex-wife Tanya (Jo Joyner).
After Max dismisses the suggestion, he soon leaves Vanessa stunned by popping the question. Despite still feeling uneasy over Tanya, it's not long until she delightedly accepts his proposal.
Discussing Max and Vanessa's current storyline, Lucker told This Morning today: "For the past year really, it's been kind of a drip-feed and now because I'm leaving in the autumn, everything starts happening now.
"She tries so hard to get his attention and she does everything for him - she's constantly cooking and looking after his kids and all that sort of stuff. Since Tanya's back on the Square, he just doesn't notice her anymore."
She continued: "Next week, I think you definitely see a much more vulnerable side to her, because she does hide behind all this hair and make-up and it is a façade. Obviously she is quite a vulnerable person."
EastEnders bosses have confirmed that Max and Tanya will embark on an affair in the coming weeks, meaning that Vanessa is likely to face heartbreak before her departure from the Square.
Lucker added: "On EastEnders, secrets don't stay secret for very long. We don't know for definite whether she will find out about the affair, but if she does, I can imagine that it will be very, very explosive."
The actress also confirmed that Vanessa will remain on screen until "September or October".
The affair between EastEnders characters Max and Tanya will feature some the show's sexiest scenes, it has been claimed.
In a plot described as the soap's "hottest ever", the former lovers will be seen meeting for secret sex sessions all over Albert Square, including the car lot office - where Tanya's new husband Greg nearly catches them.
"Max and Tanya are one of the hottest couples in EastEnders' history," a source told the Daily Star Sunday. "The on-screen chemistry between Jo Joyner and Jake Wood has always been through the roof, but this affair is going to take it to a whole new level.
"Those scenes in the car lot are very racy. Max pulls his trousers down as Tanya rips off her clothes - they're rampant.
"It is going to be the sexiest affair Walford has seen. They don't care where they do it, as long as they get to spend some time together."
Tanya previously cheated on Greg on her wedding day.

EastEnders star Jake Wood has expressed excitement over future developments in the soap's Max and Tanya affair storyline, promising that there is a big surprise in store for fans.
Viewers have recently seen Max and Tanya's old spark return as they have finally given into temptation, while their respective partners Vanessa and Greg remain clueless.
EastEnders' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood recently teased that there will be "a huge, life-changing shock for Tanya" (Jo Joyner) as the plot progresses over the coming weeks.
Speaking of the story's future for the first time, Wood told All About Soap: "There's a big twist and the reveal of the affair and the fallout from that will just be the start of another chapter.
"The storyline with Max and Tanya cheating on their partners with each other builds to a point, and then it goes somewhere else entirely. It's going to be very exciting."
Wood also promised that fans can expect a change in direction for Vanessa when she finds out that Max has betrayed her.
"There are some big things ahead for Vanessa," he said. "She's not a lady to be crossed. She's given up everything for Max and I think we're going to see a completely different side to her soon. It's going to be great."

EastEnders character Vanessa Gold will reportedly attack Tanya Jessop when she discovers her affair with fiancé Max Branning.
Vanessa (Zoe Lucker) will storm into Tanya's home and punch her, resulting in the pair fighting on the floor in front of Tanya's son Oscar and husband Greg.
The News of the World suggests that Tanya (Jo Joyner) will end the affair after Max's brother Jack (Scott Maslen) finds out. Max (Jake Wood) dumps Vanessa and confesses all, leading to the fight.
"She hunts Tanya down to her house and forces her way in before attacking her," a source said. "There is nothing like a woman scorned but Tanya doesn't take it lying down. She gives back as good as she gets. It leaves little Oscar in a right state."
However, the Daily Star Sunday claims that Vanessa only discovers the affair when Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) decides she deserves to know the truth, following Max's promises that no-one else is involved in their split.
"Everyone remembers how Lauren exposed Max's affair with Stacey Slater - it was one of the soap's most dramatic episodes ever," another source said.
"So bosses decided it would be brilliant if she ruined her dad's love life all over again by telling Vanessa he's a cheat."
The scenes will air later this summer.

EastEnders star Jake Wood has argued that his character Max Branning is still in love with ex-wife Tanya Jessop (Jo Joyner).
Viewers have seen Max and Tanya embark upon a passionate affair in scenes described as the BBC soap's "hottest ever".
The couple's marriage broke down after Max's fling with daughter-in-law Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) was exposed in 2007, but Wood insisted that his Albert Square alter ego was more interested in a reconciliation than just another affair.
"We've seen this before with Max," Wood told The Mirror. "He enjoys the machinations of an affair. His relationship with Tanya is an emotional game of cat and mouse. But I think he does love her. He's desperate to get her back.
"I love working with Jo Joyner. That relationship between Max and Tanya has always felt very real, so I'd love them to get back together and be a family again."
Wood also attempted to distance himself from his EastEnders character, claiming: "I'm nothing like Max. I'm a happily married man who would never have an affair."
Wood previously shared his excitement about a "big twist" in Max and Tanya's affair.
EastEnders' troubled blonde Vanessa Gold could find herself at the centre of Michael Moon's schemes before she makes her departure from Albert Square.
Forthcoming scenes will see twisted Michael (Steve John Shepherd) prey on Vanessa when she's left vulnerable after splitting from Max Branning, according to Soaplife.
The magazine states that Michael gives Vanessa a shoulder to cry on at the B&B, before trying to convince her to help him get his revenge against dad Eddie (David Essex).
"He tells Vanessa that Eddie's a liar and a cheat like all the others and he destroyed Michael's mother," a Walford source told the publication. "Then he pulls out a wad of cash and he offers to pay her to break his dad's heart."
It's not yet clear whether Vanessa will agree and, if so, whether she can go through with it, but the scenes in question are expected to air later this month.
EastEnders' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood previously teased: "[Vanessa's] got a really exciting storyline still in store. It kicks off over the summer and there's a big change of direction for the character that will really give Vanessa some momentum for the time she's got left in Albert Square."
EastEnders star Zöe Lucker has predicted that Tanya Jessop will bear the brunt of Vanessa Gold's fury if she discovers the truth about her fiancé Max's infidelity.
Vanessa currently fears that her relationship with Max (Jake Wood) is in crisis due to his distant behaviour, but she is still unaware that he has been cheating on her with Tanya (Jo Joyner).
"She can feel she's losing him, but she doesn't know who to," Lucker told All About Soap. "Every time she talks about the wedding, he's totally uninterested. It's humiliating for her."
Confirming that Vanessa does not suspect Tanya, the actress continued: "If she had any suspicions, she'd be stalking them! Tanya's had dinner with them and they've gone out drinking in the pub. Although they're not pals, Vanessa doesn't see Tanya as a threat and would never dream that she could betray her like that."
Asked who Vanessa would blame most for the affair, Lucker replied: "Tanya, I think. It's always the other woman who gets the blame, isn't it? I don't know if Vanessa would want revenge, but she'd make her feelings known. Tanya and Max should be wary!"
EastEnders viewers will also see Vanessa smash up Max's home as the situation reaches its climax later this month.
Speaking of the dramatic scenes, Lucker commented: "Vanessa's in such a fragile place. She's in the process of having a breakdown and she's losing control."
Yesterday, it emerged that Vanessa is to find herself at the centre of Michael Moon's schemes in a future plot when he asks for her help in getting revenge against his dad Eddie.

Jean would make more sense storyline wise
EastEnders star Zöe Lucker has revealed that there are "fantastic" things in store for her character Vanessa Gold before she makes her departure from Walford.
Vanessa will be leaving screens later this year, but show bosses have promised that she will be at the centre of drama for the remainder of her time on Albert Square.
Lucker told Inside Soap: "I've got three weeks of filming left and I'm really sad about it. The scripts I'm getting right now are fantastic - so I'm really able to strut my stuff as Vanessa."
A new direction for the character kicks off next week when Vanessa has a violent meltdown after discovering that her fiancé Max Branning (Jake Wood) has been sleeping with his ex-wife Tanya Jessop (Jo Joyner).
Lucker explained: "Vanessa's devastated. She's given up a lot to be with Max - not to mention running around after his kids and keeping his house nice. The whole thing is awful for her, and humiliating.
"Of course, she totally blames Tanya. Vanessa can't understand how a woman could do such a terrible thing to another woman. She never saw Tanya as a threat, or dreamt she could betray her like she has."
Discussing why Vanessa's reaction is so extreme, the actress added: "Vanessa's having a breakdown. She's losing control and she doesn't like being in that position at all."
EastEnders fans will also see Vanessa start to become caught up in Michael Moon's schemes in next week's episodes.
EastEnders star Steve John Shepherd has explained why his villainous character Michael Moon recruits Vanessa Gold into his schemes in a forthcoming storyline.
Next week's episodes of the BBC soap see Michael grow closer to Vanessa following the breakdown of her relationship with Max Branning. He then spots an opportunity to cause trouble, promising her a wad of cash if she agrees to break his dad Eddie's heart.
"Michael sees a weakness in Vanessa after the Brannings disown her," Shepherd told Inside Soap. "She has no money, no job and no security. He thinks, 'That's absolutely perfect - she can be my puppet'."
He continued: "Michael has seen a flicker of romance between Eddie and Carol, and he wants to entirely extinguish that. So he's hoping that he can thrust Vanessa in Eddie's path to distract him from Carol."
Meanwhile, Zöe Lucker - who plays Vanessa - admitted that her alter ego is led down the wrong path by Michael when he starts discussing Eddie's past.
"He tells her Eddie killed his mum, and Vanessa's stunned. She thought Eddie was nice," Lucker said.
"Vanessa isn't a callous woman, but she's in a vulnerable position. At the end of the day, she's a survivor and will do whatever it takes in order to get by."
EastEnders' new plot for Michael, Vanessa and Eddie begins next Tuesday.
I think Zoe Lucker has been wasted as the character Vanessa. She could have been one of the all-time great EE bitches, if Footballer's Wives was anything to go by.
Guess they wanted to concentrate on Janine as the bitch without giving her competition
EASTENDERS' Darren Miller will leave Walford after seven years when he sensationally calls off his wedding to beautiful Jodie Gold.
He decides at the last minute he can't go through with it after getting drunk at his stag do and sleeping with troubled Lauren Branning.
Racked with guilt, Darren tells fiancée Jodie at the end of next month and admits he isn't fit to be her husband. A source told TV Biz: "Darren makes a terrible mistake and can't keep it from Jodie.
"He doesn't mean to break her heart, but he does. With no Jodie and no prospects, what has he got to hang around Walford for? He decides on a clean break."
Charlie G. Hawkins, 20, has played Darren since 2004.
Since then his character has run the car lot, got engaged to Libby Fox, turned out to be the secret dad of Heather Trott's baby and been circumcised to win Jodie's love.
When his departure was announced in April, Charlie said he wanted to "chill out and enjoy being a normal 20-year-old". He added: "I can barely remember life before EastEnders. It will be great having no structure to my life and not having to learn lines."
The source said of Darren's exit plot: "This way, the door remains open for him to return."
Sleeps with Lauren never thought that would happen
EastEnders' Darren Miller will make his departure from Walford after cheating on fiancée Jodie Gold, a report has claimed.
The car salesman, played by Charlie G Hawkins, has a one-night stand with tearaway Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) after getting drunk on his stag night, according to The Sun.
It is thought that Darren is later left guilt-ridden over what he has done, prompting him to come clean with Jodie and call off their wedding before departing Albert Square.
"Darren makes a terrible mistake and can't keep it from Jodie," an EastEnders source told the newspaper. "He doesn't mean to break her heart, but he does.
"With no Jodie and no prospects, what has he got to hang around Walford for? He decides on a clean break."
The insider added: "This way, the door remains open for him to return."
Hawkins announced his decision to leave EastEnders in April. He has been part of the soap's cast since 2004.
Meanwhile, Jodie - played by Kylie Babbington - has been tipped to remain in the Square as she has "reasons to stay" following the departures of Darren and her mum Vanessa (Zöe Lucker).
Darren's EastEnders exit is expected to air in the autumn.
Wonder whether Jodie's reasons to stay are connected with the conditions her dad Harry has laid down to help with the wedding costs?

Me neither. But then she will fall pregnant and is unsure if the baby is by Darren. Nice little sibling for Geroge. Or Ryan is the daddy. Nice little sibling for Lilly ( dad's ex- mistress, it doesn't get any better) Anyway both are from our screens in the autumn....
I'm not very pleased to hear that Jodie is staying in the Square. :thumbsdow

Jodie should leave with Poppy
VANESSA Gold makes a splash as she leaves EastEnders - getting soaked by a cab.
In her final dramatic scenes Vanessa, played by Zoe Lucker, 37, is drenched as she is left stranded after a business transaction with Eddie Moon goes horribly wrong.
Eddie and Vanessa argue over plan
David Essex, 64, who took the role of Eddie this year, is also leaving the BBC1 soap and seals Vanessa's fate moments before her exit.
It all starts when Eddie goes to pick up the businesswoman in his car. In an undercover deal between the two, she throws him a bag of money but is shocked when he unpacks her luggage from his boot and dumps it on the street.
Wheeler dealer ... Eddie leaves Vanessa stranded
As baffled Vanessa frantically screams at him, Eddie hands her the cash back and leaves her stranded before she is unceremoniously drenched. Normally people leave the Square IN a taxi, so this must be a first.

Please. The sooner the better!

Nah.. she should just run over her when she leaves
EastEnders' Vanessa Gold will face fresh heartache later this month when her estranged husband Harry puts her in another awkward situation.
Harry - played by Linal Haft - hasn't been on screen since late 2010, but we see him again briefly at the end of August as Vanessa swallows her pride and makes contact with him.
After losing Max's financial support when he dumped her, Vanessa (Zöe Lucker) gets in touch with Harry because she needs his help to raise funds for Jodie's wedding, according to a report in All About Soap.
Harry later sits down for a meal with Vanessa, Jodie and Darren - but it's not long before he shows his true colours once again, declaring that he'll only pay for the wedding if Vanessa doesn't turn up for the ceremony… That is what I thought would happen, not fair
It's clear that Harry still wants to punish Vanessa for leaving him, but will she agree to respect his wishes? Will Jodie and Darren have to scale back their wedding plans? Or could Vanessa become further embroiled in Michael Moon's schemes to make the money she needs?
EastEnders airs Harry's ultimatum on Tuesday, August 30 at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Ah well good on you....
EastEnders star Zöe Lucker has revealed that she loved filming her character Vanessa Gold's recent meltdown scene.
Earlier this month, Vanessa completely lost control by smashing everything in sight at Max's house after discovering that he had been cheating on her with ex-wife Tanya.
Reflecting on the dramatic moment, Lucker told The One Show: "It was really good fun, actually, doing that! It was one of those things where as a person, you think, 'It'd be quite nice at times to be able to just completely trash a room!'
"The director of that episode, a guy called Karl Neilson, is absolutely brilliant and he basically just set the whole thing up for one take.
"So you've got all the cameras in the right positions, he made sure that everybody was sure nothing was going to go wrong and then he said, 'Right, in your own time, just go for it!'"
Lucker confirmed that she has now filmed Vanessa's exit scenes but would be interested in a future comeback.
"The door has been left open so that's all good, because I did absolutely love my time there," she explained. "I finished two weeks ago and was really sad - sad to say goodbye to everybody and sad to say bye to that character.
"I've had such a lovely run over the past couple of months. I sort of spent a year not doing that much, [though] it was great to work with Jake who plays Max. But as I say, these past few months I've been getting some really, really good storylines and getting to spread my wings and work with lots of different actors, who I think are brilliant."
Lucker joined the cast of EastEnders in March 2010.
Former EastEnders star Zöe Lucker has revealed that she was happy with the surprising circumstances surrounding her character Vanessa Gold's departure from the soap.
Vanessa's final EastEnders episode aired last night, showing her team up with new lover Eddie Moon for revenge against his son Michael (Steve John Shepherd), under the impression that they could then head to Spain together.
However, in a final twist, Eddie dumped Vanessa at the last minute and she felt unable to return to Albert Square as she feared the police were investigating her theft at the boxing gym.
Lucker has now insisted that Eddie's decision was the right one due to the way Vanessa had plotted against him with Michael earlier this year.
She told BBC Three's EastEnders: The New Moons: "Eddie did the right thing in leaving Vanessa, because he can't trust her.
"As much as I would have loved to have seen Vanessa and Eddie run off into the sunset, I appreciate why Eddie did that."
David Essex's final scenes as Eddie also aired last night, but executive producer Bryan Kirkwood and scriptwriter Christopher Reason both expressed hope that he may return one day to continue his story with Michael.
Kirkwood said: "The man's a proper gent and he's a proper star, and I'm very hopeful that we haven't seen the back of Eddie or David in EastEnders."
Reason added: "Of course I'm sad to see Eddie Moon go, but I'm also hopeful that he'll come back. So stick around because the final showdown in [his] story has yet to be played."
No doubt she would like to come back too and I think it could work
