Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return to the big screen as The Terminator, it has been revealed.

The Austrian action star has been eying several film projects since his seven-year tenure as Governor of California came to an end in January and he announced on Twitter he was ready to make his acting comeback.

Arnie is now attached to star in a rights deal that his talent agency CAA is offering to movie studios to revive the iconic Terminator blockbuster franchise, Deadline reports.

No screenwriter is attached to the project, but it is being lead by Robert Cort, producer of Jumanji and Against the Ropes.
Universal, Sony and Lionsgate, and CBS Films are reported to be interested.

Arnie last starred in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines in 2003. Christian Bale starred in a fourth instalment, Terminator Salvation, in 2009.

The actor recently unveiled plans for The Governator, an animated TV show about a former California governor who assembles a team of whiz kids to fight crime and natural disasters.

Arnie was previously reported to be considering two action thrillers for his comeback vehicle - The Tomb, directed by Training Day's Antoine Fuqua, and Last Stand, directed by I Saw The Devil's Jee-woon Kim.
