Joanna Lumley has reportedly confirmed that she will film new episodes of Absolutely Fabulous later this year.

In November, Lumley revealed that she was keen to return to the sitcom.

The actress has now been quoted as telling Hello magazine that she will begin work on new instalments this summer.

"In late August I start filming on three episodes of Absolutely Fabulous, which we are all ecstatic about," she said.

However, Lumley said that she has no idea what will happen when the show returns, saying: "Miss [Jennifer] Saunders has been so busy writing Uptown Downstairs Abbey for Comic Relief and also Spice Girls: The Musical, I don't think she's started [the script]!"

Lumley has previously said that she "adored" working on Absolutely Fabulous.

Absolutely Fabulous will celebrate its 20th anniversary with three specials on BBC One, it has been announced.

Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley will return to their roles as international PR guru Edina Monsoon and sex-crazed magazine editor Patsy Stone in the award-winning sitcom.

Original cast members Julia Sawalha, June Whitfield and Jane Horrocks will also star in the three 30 minute episodes.

Absolutely Fabulous first aired in 1991 and finished with a special episode titled 'White Box' in 2004.

The new specials will be set in the present day, where Eddy and Patsy are still working in the PR and magazine businesses.

In the first episode, fans will "rejoin the beloved ensemble in the midst of a life-changing experience for one", while the final third episode will feature Eddy and Patsy's own special influence on the London 2012 Olympics.

"It's great that we are able to celebrate our 20th birthday with all the original cast. Like a good bottle of champagne we hope that we have got better with time without losing any of our sparkle," said Saunders.

"Last week when we started filming in dear old West London, it was as if nothing had changed. It was raining. Nevertheless, we are so happy to be working for an audience that has grown just a tiny bit older like us, but is still willing to let us fall over on TV in the name of PR."

BBC Comedy executive producer Jon Plowman added: "Viewers have been fantastically loyal in their devotion to our show, so we're really thrilled to say that it's coming back for three new shows to celebrate our 20th anniversary. All of the originals who are back together again are still truly absolutely fabulous and the new adventures of Edina, Patsy, Saffy, Bubble and Mother, plus a few surprising guests, will be a real treat for viewers."

As unmissable as the Olympic 100m final, but longer and funnier, Absolutely Fabulous returns tonight with Olympics - the last of three specials made to celebrate its 20 year anniversary.

Edina Monsoon (Jennifer Saunders, Bafta 'female comedy performance' for Ab Fab) and Patsy Stone (Joanna Lumley) are well known for having their fingers on the pulse of the nation.

As the sound of the approaching Olympiad reaches deafening proportions Eddy is surprised that it is all about to start. She has rented out her house to a Hollywood A lister, but she is still living in it, as is her daughter (Julia Sawalha), her mother (June Whitfield) and her assistant Bubble (Jane Horrocks).

Patsy tries to get into Eddy's body suit to look suitably great for the A listers, with disastrous results. Health professionals are summoned.

Eddy feels that doors are closing on her, age is catching up with her, invitations are not coming her way anymore and Stella McCartney's shop is closed to her.

To add to her depression, Bo and Marshall (her ex-husband, played by Chris Ryan and his American girlfriend played by Mo Gaffney) arrive to stay for the Games. Things can only get worse.

After their triumphant reunion at Christmas on BBC One, Eddy and Patsy return. Somehow, before the flame has been lit, they will end up running for glory inside the Olympic stadium and crash a reception for the likes of Tanni Grey Thompson, Dame Kelly Holmes, and Stella McCartney.
