Surely Ronnie will be sectioned rather than imprisoned?! she's clearly not in a good mental state.

She probably is there until the trial... she will have dimished responsibility I think as she knows what she did was wrong but at the time she wasn't in clear control of her mental state.

Michael will bear the brunt of Jack's anger next month as the distraught businessman remains on a downward spiral in the aftermath of Ronnie's baby swap confession.

The latest drama begins when Michael infuriates Jack by blanking him on the Square. Deciding not to take this lying down, Jack drunkenly heads over to the boxing ring to confront his friend with a whisky bottle in hand.

Michael denies doing anything wrong and when Jack won't listen, Michael takes the bottle away from him and tries to take him home. However, this only serves to escalate things further and as they argue, Jack grabs the bottle back and smashes it against the window.

A Walford source said: "Jack has reached rock bottom at this point and when he sees his friend blank him in the street, he is livid. Drunk, he heads over to confront him.

"Jack explodes, telling Michael that he has no idea how he is feeling as he still has his son. Michael tells him that his 'bleeding heart act is getting boring' - this infuriates Jack who smashes the whisky bottle."

Roxy is frustrated that Ronnie still isn't out on bail, but when she confronts her sister's solicitor, she discovers that Ronnie has sacked him because she doesn't want to be released. On Christian's advice, Roxy then decides to visit Ronnie in prison and offers to get her a new solicitor. However, Ronnie dismisses this, insisting that she deserves to stay behind bars and claiming that Roxy only wants to help so she can prove to everyone that she's the stronger sister. Upset by Ronnie's words, Roxy leaves the prison. She later tells Christian that she has hired a new lawyer for Ronnie, but she can't help but wonder whether Ronnie is right and she really is just doing this for herself.

Meanwhile, it's Jane's 40th birthday and she receives a text message from Ian, who tells her to have a drink on him as he's away. However, Jane is frustrated that Ian didn't send her a card. Christian plans a birthday celebration for Jane at The Vic that night, but when she arrives, only Christian and Syed are there because everyone else is busy. However, Jane soon spots Martin at the bar and they start chatting. With things going well, Jane invites Martin back to her place. As they walk through the door at Jane's, the pair see Ian and Bobby standing there to surprise Jane on her birthday. Ian is stunned to see that Jane has a new love interest.

Elsewhere, Masood grows more convinced that Zainab is in love with Yusef, so he comes up with a romantic gesture to win her back, inviting her to the Argee Bhajee for a surprise. When Zainab arrives, she sees that Masood has covered the rubble in the restaurant with fairy lights. The ice between the pair begins to melt and they start to talk, with Masood admitting his concerns over Yusef. Zainab explains that she has told Yusef she loves Masood, so the couple finally agree to have no more arguments and not let anyone come between them. Soon afterwards at The Vic, Syed approaches his parents and tells them that, as they're now speaking, they need to start accepting Christian. However, Zainab and Masood make it clear that this is not going to happen. Later, Syed sits with Christian and it's clear that Syed is missing having his family around him. Christian soon suggests that they could start thinking about adoption...

Also today, Whitney tells Ryan that her test results are back and she has tested positive for Chlamydia; Lauren and Jack have a heart-to-heart; and Grace isn't happy about Fatboy and Mercy's wedding plans, though she concedes that it's better than Mercy being deported.

Heather is concerned that she hasn't heard back from Kevin, so Darren and Jodie try to help. Darren uses his online skills to find him and soon thinks that he has successfully tracked down the mystery man. On Darren and Jodie's advice, Heather decides to go to see him, despite Shirley's protestations that she could be putting herself in danger. However, when Heather finds the Kevin that Darren has tracked down, it's immediately clear that he isn't the person who she has been talking to. At the same time, Ben and Jay realise that they need to put an end to the Heather situation as it's spiralling out of control. Later, Heather receives a huge shock as she receives an email stating that Kevin was killed in a motoring accident. As she sobs in anguish, Ben and Jay realise that their prank has gone way too far.

Meanwhile, Ian tells Jane how angry he is about her and Martin. Jane apologises for upsetting Bobby but won't apologise for being with someone new. Desperate to prove that he can also move on, Ian ploughs through a list of old flames to see if anyone is available for a date. He doesn't seem to have much luck but soon visits Jane at the chip shop and proudly tells her that he has 'a lunch' later that day. However, Jane is starting to have doubts about her relationship with Martin, deciding that her children come first and she'll have to sacrifice her new man. When Martin arrives to see her, she tells him that they'll have to finish things. At the same time, Ian meets a woman called Jeanette at The Vic and is keen for Jane to see them together. Jane does visit the bar later and Ian thinks he's won the battle.

Elsewhere, Carol can see that Dot is still struggling to look after herself and Jim. When Carol tells Dot that she needs a carer to help around the house, Dot feels insulted by her suggestion and orders Carol to leave her spare key behind. Later, Dot agrees to go out to lunch with Carol but leaves without turning the gas hob off. When the pair arrive back, Carol notices the smell of gas and stops Dot from blowing up the house by lighting a cigarette. Towards the end of the day, Dot finally agrees to the idea of a carer, as long as she can choose who gets the job.

Also today, Max is distant and irritable when he hears that Tanya and Greg are staying in the Maldives for a few extra nights; Jay tries to sort out Abi and Ben's bickering by locking them in the launderette together, where Ben admits to Abi that he is being bullied; and Vanessa begins to feel that Max is slipping away from her.

Ian is still smug over his new 'girlfriend' Jeanette, so he visits The Vic with her while Jane is working and introduces the pair. However, it's Jean who seems most jealous that Ian has a new love interest. Pat confronts Ian about Jeanette, but Ian claims that he has known her for years. Later, Ian hands a wad of cash to Jeanette and pops out on an errand, leaving her behind at the pub. While she's alone, Jeanette gets talking to Jane and admits that she's actually an escort. When Ian returns, Jane tells him that she knows the truth about his mystery woman, leaving him humiliated. At home later, Ian and Jane have another argument, with Ian claiming that Jane is just like any other woman who he has paid for over the years. As Ian orders Jane to pack her bags and leave, Jane gets tough and warns him that she's not going and plans to take him for everything he's got…

Meanwhile, Heather is still devastated following the news that 'Kevin' is dead. At work, Denise doesn't understand why she's so upset as she never met him, so Heather gets angry over her lack of sympathy. Heather soon gets paranoid that Denise is talking about her to the customers, especially when she hears Denise and Roxy laughing together. Heather storms over to rebuke them and won't listen to Denise's protestations that they were actually talking about Amy. A big argument ensues and Heather loses control by slapping Denise. A furious Denise then orders Heather to go home and not bother coming back.

Elsewhere, Roxy tries to talk to Jack about Ronnie's case but gets upset when he makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with his wife. Roxy asks Michael to talk to Jack, but isn't happy when he appears reluctant to get involved. Later, Michael sees Jack leaving the Minute Mart with a bottle of whisky. He considers going over to talk to him, but changes his mind and blanks him. Jack soon heads over to the boxing ring and confronts Michael over the way he ignored him. As Jack goads his friend, Michael tries to take the whisky bottle away from him and take him home, but a furious Jack smashes the bottle against the window.

Also today, Lydia exchanges on the sale of her house and Ricky moves all of her belongings into Janine's flat; Mo comes up with a new business idea, setting up an OAP movie club in The Vic; Ben feels guilty when he hears that Heather's grief over 'Kevin' has led to her losing her job; Lydia tells Janine that her mum June really loved her, leaving Janine touched; and Edward tells Dot about a girl he once went on a date with, so Dot decides to track her down using the internet.

May 6th

Bickering in the Beale household becomes increasingly petty as Ian divides the house in half with tape, and Jane 'accidentally' spills milk all over Ian. Later, Jane is furious when her card is rejected at the cash machine as Ian has cancelled it. Keen to get even, Jane heads over to the café and takes cash from the till, saying that she's entitled to it as business partner. However, Ian warns that she's just an employee and declares that the cash she's taken is severance pay as she's fired. As the day continues, Ian is shocked to see that Jane has been selling his belongings to random people on the Square. When Ian returns home, he discovers that Jane has changed the locks and won't let him in until he gives her bank card back. Later, Ian gets upset as the reality hits home that his marriage is over.

Meanwhile, Tracey has called in sick at The Vic, leaving Alfie stressed behind the bar. Rainie notices that he's struggling and asks for a job, but Jodie interjects by saying that Vanessa is at a loose end and could do with the position herself. Alfie declares that Vanessa would be better suited to the job, giving her a pleading look. Vanessa thinks that he's only saying it to get rid of Rainie so she agrees, but she's shocked when she realises that Alfie really does expect her to help out. However, Vanessa proves to be a natural as a barmaid, especially when she successfully handles Jack, who's drunk and aggressive at the pub.

Later, Jack continues his drinking session at the R&R. Rainie soon joins him but sticks to drinking orange juice. However, when Phil comes in and makes some nasty remarks to her, she starts drinking alcohol with Jack. Phil later interferes further by throwing the pair out of the club. When Max sees that Rainie is with Jack, he orders her to stay away from him, but Rainie remains defiant. After Rainie decides to pursue Jack further, the pair end up in a passionate clinch.

Also today, Abi realises that Max still has feelings for Tanya and orders him to forget it as her mum is happy with Greg; Carol is relieved when Dot hires a Polish carer named Marta; Julie is nervous about meeting Billy's kids for the first time; and Tanya and Greg return to the Square following their honeymoon.
