Former Home and Away star Dieter Brummer has landed a guest role on Neighbours, taking on the part of Captain Troy Miller.

The actor - who played Summer Bay's Shane Parrish between 1992 and 1996 - will appear on Ramsay Street for a seven-week guest stint later this year.

Troy is an ex-boyfriend of established character Sonya Mitchell (Eve Morey) and show bosses are tipping the soldier to be at the centre of drama in Erinsborough during his time on screen.

Speaking of Brummer's casting, Neighbours' executive producer Susan Bower told Holy Soap: "We are delighted that Dieter is joining us and very excited about the character he is playing. The Captain will certainly leave his mark on Ramsay Street."

Brummer's Home and Away character is best remembered for his relationship with show favourite Angel, played by Melissa George.

Since departing Summer Bay, the star has appeared in a number of other Australian shows - including Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities and Underbelly: The Golden Mile on the Nine Network.

Former Home and Away star Dieter Brummer has revealed more details about his new guest role on Neighbours.

Last week, it was announced that Brummer had been cast in the part of former soldier Troy Miller - an ex-boyfriend of established character Sonya Mitchell (Eve Morey).

In an interview with TV Week, the actor confirmed that Troy is likely to stir up some strong feelings on Ramsay Street following his arrival.

Brummer commented: "He's involved in Sonya's dark past and he comes to Erinsborough to work out something to do with that past.

"He isn't intentionally stirring up trouble, but there are aspects of his personality that will cause some problems. I think that's bound to cause waves with Sonya and Toadie, so it'll be interesting to see where they end up."

The show's new recruit added that he is looking forward to sharing scenes with Scott Major (Lucas Fitzgerald) as they are old friends.

He said: "We've been friends for a long time, going way back to the '90s, but we've never worked on set together."

Brummer - who previously played Summer Bay's Shane Parrish - is expected to have a seven-week guest stint in Erinsborough.

Dieter Brummer has revealed the full details of the unfinished business that his Neighbours character Troy Miller has with ex-partner Sonya Mitchell.

The former Home and Away star has joined the cast of the Ramsay Street soap for a seven-week guest stint which will see Sonya's dark past explored further.

In an interview with Holy Soap, Brummer confirmed that Troy is the biological father of Sonya's son Callum and has never quite moved on from their romance.

The actor explained: "I think he would have been more dedicated to Sonya and their relationship in the past if he'd known that she decided to keep their baby. He has never really let go of Sonya. For whatever reason, they finally decided to break up and neither one of them was in a great place at the time. Then he left to join the army."

Of Troy's personality, Brummer said: "He has been through a lot of changes since the early days of his and Sonya's relationship. He certainly stands up for himself. He will turn like a cut snake if he's crossed, and we're just starting to film that side of him now."

Troy has been tipped to cause conflict with Callum's guardian Toadie Rebecchi following his arrival on screen later this year.

Neighbours bosses have signed up Dieter Brummer for another guest stint as Troy Miller, Digital Spy can confirm.

The former Home and Away actor is already back filming at the Ramsay Street soap ahead of an on-screen return later this year.

Digital Spy understands that Troy will be back in Erinsborough for a few weeks. However, details of his comeback storyline are currently being kept tightly under wraps.

Neighbours fans previously saw Troy arrive on the street in mid-2011 for a seven-week guest role, stirring up trouble for his old flame Sonya Mitchell (Eve Morey).

Shortly after his debut, it emerged that Troy was Callum Jones's biological father - and dramatic scenes followed as he tried to claim a permanent position in the lives of Sonya and his son.

A Neighbours source told Digital Spy: "Sonya eventually sent Troy packing last year, so his return will certainly ruffle feathers in Erinsborough. But viewers will have to wait and see why he is back and what's in store for him this time around."

Brummer is best known for playing Shane Parrish on Home and Away in the '90s.

Neighbours and Home and Away star Dieter Brummer appeared in court today (March 23) facing assault charges.

The actor was allegedly involved in a scuffle with security guards at a Logie Awards after-party at Melbourne's Crown Casino last May.

Melbourne Magistrates Court today heard that Brummer had tried to bite one of the guards on the night in question, but did not make any contact. He has also been accused of pushing and kicking another, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Brummer's lawyer argued that he was being restrained by up to five security guards at the time and was acting in self-defence.

The case has now been adjourned until May 1.

Brummer is best known for playing the role of Home and Away's Shane Parrish between 1992 and 1996. He has also recently landed a second guest stint on Neighbours, reprising the part of Troy Miller.

Neighbours star Dieter Brummer has avoided a criminal conviction following his altercation with security guards at a Logie Awards after-party.

Soap star Brummer, previously a cast member of Home and Away, was originally charged with unlawful assault after kicking out at one of the guards last May.

However, yesterday (May 1) the Melbourne Magistrates Court agreed to place Brummer on a court diversion programme.

Magistrate Jan McLean is quoted by ABC News as saying: "It is slightly unusual for crimes of this sort of violence to be considered appropriate for a diversion plan."

McLean stated that Brummer had been affected by excessive alcohol consumption and said charges would be dropped if he apologised to his victim.

Brummer has also been ordered to make a $500 donation to Mirabel Foundation, a charity supporting orphaned and abandoned children.

The 35-year-old, who has until June 25 to fulfill his conditions, left court without comment.

Brummer recently returned for another guest stint on Neighbours, reprising his role as Ramsay Street's Troy Miller.

Neighbours star Dieter Brummer has said that his character Troy Miller will be more manipulative during his latest stint on the soap.

Troy - Callum Jones's biological father - has this week returned to Australian screens, while UK fans will see him back from late June. He will remain on Ramsay Street for a few weeks.

The ex-soldier's return has been tipped to shake up life for Toadie and Sonya once again, while Jade will also struggle as her own troubled history with Troy is explored for the first time.

Brummer told TV Tonight: "It was a little bit different this time. Troy knew what he wanted and knew how to go about things, playing characters off against each other and leaving people with a smug, knowing smile which was infuriating for the other characters.

"It was good fun. More interesting than playing a goodie two-shoes nice guy."

He added: "But I think Troy's pretty much done his dash this time around. There's only so far the storyline can go. Callum is his biological son and he missed out on too much of his life to just pick up and be his dad."

Troy's Neighbours return was confirmed in March. He previously had a seven-week Erinsborough stint in mid-2011.

Evil Neighbours character Troy Miller will kidnap ex-girlfriend Sonya Mitchell later this month.

Former army officer Troy, played by Dieter Brummer, will also take son Callum and Sonya's sister Jade hostage.

"From Troy's point of view, he just wants to ingratiate himself back into his son's life and everyone is making that really difficult for him," Brummer told TV Week.

"But it's just not to be, as no-one trusts him for a moment, so he locks Callum inside the house and doesn't want him to go until he's said his bit."

When pregnant Sonya and Jade burst in to protect Callum, viewers will be left to wonder whether they will escape unscathed.

Eve Morey, who portrays Sonya, revealed that there is a "devastating" culmination to the storyline

Dieter Brummer who played Troy Miller on Neighbours has passed away at the age of 45:

Home and Away star Dieter Brummer dead at 45: Actor known for playing Shane Parrish on long-running Australian soap dies after quitting showbusiness to become a window cleaner
Brummer, who turned 45 in May, was found dead after a police welfare check
He played heartthrob Shane Parrish on Home and Away from 1992 to 1996
His other acting credits included Underbelly, Medivac and Neighbours
His death is not being treated as suspicious

Australian actor Dieter Brummer, best known for playing Shane Parrish on Home and Away in the 1990s, has died at the age of 45.

The two-time Logie winner was found dead at a home in Glenhaven, in Sydney's north-west, on Saturday afternoon, NSW Police confirmed to Daily Mail Australia.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

'About 1.30pm (Saturday 24 July 2021), officers from The Hills Police Area Command responded to reports of a concern for welfare at a home on Glenhaven Road, Glenhaven,' a police spokesperson said.

'The body of a man was located inside the home. His death is not believed to be suspicious. A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.'

Brummer starred on Home and Away from 1992 to 1996, and later had roles in hospital drama Medivac and crime series Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities. Following the news of his passing, Brummer's family released a statement saying their world would 'never be the same'.

'On behalf of my family, We post this today with a heavy heart,' the Facebook post began. 'We lost our handsome, talented, funny, complicated and beloved Dieter on Saturday morning.

'He has left a massive hole in our lives and our world will never be the same. Our thoughts go out to all of you who knew him, loved him, or worked with him over the years.

'We appreciate you respecting our privacy at this terrible time.'

His other credits included Winners & Losers, Neighbours, Underbelly: The Golden Mile and short-lived soap Crash Palace.

According to a report by The Daily Telegraph in November, Brummer started up a window washing business after turning his back on acting.

'People say that I'm just a window cleaner, in reality it's substantially more involved than that. Working at heights it's a relatively specialist trade,' he told TV Tonight in April 2010.

Brummer said he was able to employ his rock climbing skills in his new profession, and was appreciative of the 'life experience' it had given him.

'I just wanted to get a bit of real life experience under my belt, but I'd always intended on coming back to the acting game at some point,' he added. Brummer, who turned 45 in May, was notably involved in a Home and Away storyline with co-star Melissa George, who played his on-screen wife Angel Brooks.

While their characters looked like the perfect couple on the show, their relationship behind the scenes was strained.

'There was a lot of pressure on us. We had to look like the perfect, darling couple in public,' Brummer said in 2018. 'It wasn't like anything off screen. It was all on screen.'

Brummer previously said in 2012 he hated working with George, 44, and even asked producers to kill off his character so he could escape her diva demands.

He told Woman's Day: 'We may have been love interests on the show but the chemistry was far from real!

'Mel was incredibly ambitious right from the outset. I think she wanted to be the next Kylie Minogue.

'She was a big fan and she aspired to be a big star just like Kylie. I don?t think she had much time for the cast of Home and Away.'

Speaking during the Home and Away special, Endless Summer, George elaborated on the issues she had working alongside Brummer.

She confessed: 'There was a lot of pressure on us. We had to look like the perfect darling couple in public.' The actress also made no secret of the fact she resented her involvement in the classic soap.

In 2012, she famously denounced her legacy as a Home and Away alumnus in an interview that has haunted her ever since.

'I don't need credibility from my country anymore. I just need them all to be quiet,' she snapped.

'If they have nothing intelligent to say, please don't speak to me anymore. I'd rather be having a croissant and an espresso in Paris or walking my French bulldog in New York City'. Brummer hit back at his former co-star, dubbing her comments 'unnecessary and a bit ridiculous', adding, 'But then that?s Mel.'

After leaving Home and Away, George went on to find Hollywood success in films like The Amityville Horror and TV shows Grey's Anatomy and The Good Wife.

Brummer's character was written off Home and Away when Shane died from septicaemia (blood poisoning) in 1996.

He received two Logie Awards for his work on the soap, winning Most Popular Actor in 1995 and 1996. In a statement released on Monday, a spokesperson for Channel Seven said: 'Home and Away and Channel Seven are deeply saddened to hear of Dieter Brummer's passing.

'Dieter was a much-loved Home and Away cast member and celebrated by Australian and international audiences for his award-winning portrayal of Shane Parrish.

'We send our sincere condolences to Dieter's family and friends during this very difficult time.'

Many took to social media to share their condolences, with reporter Peter Ford writing: 'Very sad to hear of the death of former TV heart-throb and Logie winner Dieter Brummer at 45 years old.

'Home and Away was a massive hit for him in the 90s. There were other credits too but when you hit such dizzying heights at a very young age life and career after can be problematic.'Fellow Home and Away star and family friend Steve Comey wrote: 'Heartbreaking news. We have lost a free spirit. Vale Dieter Brummer. Way too young. Way too soon.

'My sincerest, deepest condolences to his beautiful sister Karlene and all of Dieter's family & friends. Keep flying young fella.'

Actor Steve Bastoni added: 'I met Dieter Brummer on Underbelly, he seemed like a decent fellow. Very sad news.'

ITV reporter Pip Tomson added: 'Just 45. My god this is awful. Dieter Brummer. Thank you for the memories.'

From interviews he came across as a nice down to earth guy, so sad. Perhaps a child actor syndrome thing, was huge for a few years
