INJURED Robert Kubica's Formula One future remains in the balance after an inconclusive medical bulletin on his progress.
Lotus Renault consultant Dr Riccardo Ceccarelli declined to be drawn on the Pole's chances of a comeback when quizzed by reporters.

He said: "It's a question we can't answer. We can't say when or how."

Kubica's right hand was partially severed in a rally smash in Italy more than a month ago.

He also sustained multiple arm and leg fractures, and is currently undergoing rehabilitation and physiotherapy at Italy's Pietra Ligure hospital, where he is expected to remain for some time.

Asked if he was confident or worried about Kubica's future, Dr Ceccarelli replied: "This is not my style. I can only answer with what I know.

"I've followed the doctors from the first day. We have been very lucky that we have had high-level specialists working with him, and this is positive.

"Robert's reaction has been good. So if you ask me if I have hopes then I say, 'Yes, of course.' But if you ask me whether I have an opinion, then no, I don't.

"All I can say is Robert is getting better every day, recovering very quickly, both psychologically and physically, which is not a surprise for us because we know Robert very well."

Asked if Kubica will need more surgery, Dr Ceccarelli replied: "I would say no at the moment because everything is going very well and there have been no complications.

"The recovery will take a long time so we will see day by day as to how things go. Only after a month will we understand more.

"Robert is moving fingers, moving the wrist. That is positive but we cannot predict anything else."
