View Full Version : Marc Selby (Andrew Hall)
CORRIE is getting its first transvestite character - played by Butterflies star Andrew Hall.
Marc - or Marcia in female mode - becomes a love interest for rival hairdressers Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) and Claudia Colby (Rula Lenska).
They suspect that Marc is seeing someone else when he stands them up - and the pair spot a mystery woman leaving his house.
They don't twig that "she" is Marc going to Manchester's Gay Village in women's gear.
When they confront him he convinces them it was his sister. But the truth will out eventually.
A source said: "Many men aren't gay but like to wear a frock. Cross-dressing is another taboo that soaps are looking to tackle."
Andrew, 56 - who played Russell in BBC2 sitcom Butterflies with Nicholas Lyndhurst and Wendy Craig - joins the soap next month.
Corrie has featured transsexual character Hayley Cropper since 1998.

Audrey Roberts's romance with cross-dresser Marc Selby turns sour on Coronation Street later this month, it has emerged today.
Inside Soap reports that Marc (Andrew Hall) departs screens at the end of August after his habit of dressing up as alter ego 'Marcia' stops being a secret on the cobbles. Audrey (Sue Nicholls) is apparently left heartbroken by his exit from her life.
Coronation Street bosses recently released an explosive summer preview video which sees new sidekicks Kylie and Eva discover the truth about Marc, and it looks like the pair will cause trouble as Kylie (Paula Lane) records footage of 'Marcia' on her phone.
No further information is known at the moment, but it'd be interesting to see how Kylie's relationship with Audrey and the Platts would be affected if Marc did become a target of her vicious side…
Coronation Street's Kylie Platt will soon return to her twisted ways when she tries to blackmail Audrey Roberts over her relationship with cross-dresser Marc Selby, a report has revealed.
Show bosses recently released a summer preview video which sees Kylie (Paula Lane) uncover Marc's secret when she spots him dressed up as alter ego Marcia.
It has now emerged that Kylie decides to use the situation to her advantage as she makes her discovery shortly after being sacked by Audrey (Sue Nicholls) for causing chaos at the salon.
After recording video footage of Marcia on her phone, Kylie threatens Audrey by warning that she will reveal Marc's secret unless she gets her job back, according to the Daily Star.
However, Audrey apparently confides in Marc (Andrew Hall) about her blackmail dilemma, prompting him to take the wind out of Kylie's sails by walking into the Rovers Return dressed as Marcia.
It is thought that Marc's shock decision then causes fresh problems for his relationship with Audrey, who gets cold feet over their future.
Audrey reportedly tells him: "I'm not sure I can carry on like this. Like it or not, people round here will see you as a freak."
Coronation Street's new storyline for Kylie, Audrey and Marc is expected to air later this month.
Coronation Street bosses have dismissed reports claiming that Andrew Hall has been 'axed' from the soap.
As first reported earlier this week, the actor's character Marc Selby will depart screens towards the end of the month as his storyline with Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) reaches its natural conclusion.
However, tabloid suggestions that producers "pulled the plug" on the character are untrue. Andrew agreed to a six-month deal which played out as planned, and the plotline concludes as originally scripted.
A Coronation Street spokesperson told Digital Spy this afternoon: "Andrew Hall is leaving Coronation Street as the much talked about Marc/Marcia storyline comes to a head at the end of this month.
"This storyline always had a beginning, a middle and an end, allowing Andrew to sign up for a six-month stint on the show."
The build-up to Marc's departure sees twisted Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) discover the truth about his alter ego Marcia, causing fresh turbulence for his relationship with Audrey.
