Coronation Street producer Kim Crowther has unveiled the casting of Liz McDonald's new lover.

Actor Ian Puleston-Davies will take on the role of Owen, the father of Weatherfield's first regular disabled character Izzy - played by disabled actress Cherylee Houston.

Shortly after arriving on the Street, he takes a keen eye to Liz (Beverley Callard) and the pair embark on an unlikely relationship which is marred by Becky's presence in The Rovers.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Crowther said: "We've a wonderful actor coming into the show who I've got really high hopes for. I've been trying to get on board for a while and we've created the character for him.

"Ian Puleston-Davies will play a character called Owen. He'll arrive in the show as a father to new girl Izzy who starts working in the factory and we find he's got another daughter as well."

She continued: "Owen's a single dad and he's been a bit controlling, having struggled to bring up these two girls on their own. He starts a relationship with Liz and we find that the one person he doesn't really get on with is Becky.

"Becky reminds him of his previous wife who left him high and dry when he had the girls to look after. So when he starts going out with Liz, there's immediate tension within the McDonald family. He'll live on the Street further down the line too."

Puleston-Davies begins filming at Manchester's Granada Studios over the next few weeks and will first appear on screen in May. His screen daughter Izzy arrives on the Cobbles in April.

The casting of Owen's other daughter has yet to be confirmed.

Should be good, Ian Puleston-Davies is a really good actor. Mind you, I thought that when I heard Reece Dinsdale was coming into Corrie, and that's turned out to be a bit of a flop.

CORRIE'S Eileen Grimshaw fears for her life after nicking £10,000 from her bruiser boss.
Builder Owen Armstrong bashes down her front door to threaten her. Eileen - played by Sue Cleaver, 46 - gets greedy while balancing Owen's books between cab office shifts.

She banks a £10,000 cheque for herself instead of paying it into the business account.

Owen (Ian Puleston-Davies, 51) smells a rat when his company credit card bounces.

He threatens Eileen with violence - but has to back down after she repays the cash and threatens to blow the whistle on his tax fiddles.

Owen threatens: "One day when you're least expecting it I'll make you pay. You'll be sorry."

Oh wow...Owen seems a real nasty piece of work.
And I`m surprised at Eileen for stealing. I thought she was above all that.

What was Eileen thinking. Stealing of Owen. Maybe we should get John Stape to bump him off.

For your information Big Eileen is the name her character is called by both Steve and Llloyd. I was referring to a character in a fictional soap, set in a fictional town. I did not refer to the actual person Sue Cleaver as BIG Sue did I.

Yes it sure does. I have a sense of humour and a mind of my own

Eileen realises she may have the last laugh after all when her half-sister Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh) reminds her she has plenty of dirt on Owen..

Coronation Street's' Eileen Grimshaw could face prison after Owen Armstrong reports her for defrauding him.

The mouthy mum - played by Sue Cleaver - will be left reeling when she gets "too cocky" trying to get her own back on her builder boss, only to find he has turned the tables on her.

Eileen lands herself in trouble when she decides to tell shopkeepers Dev and Sunita Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin and Shobna Gulati) that bad boy Owen - whom she once stole £10,000 from before paying him back - has been dodging his tax bills.

She explained: "Well, she gets a bit cocky doesn't she? Eileen really thinks she has the upper hand as far as Owen is concerned. Because she repaid the cash she stole from him, and because of the evidence she had against him - the unpaid VAT bills - she wants people to know what kind of bloke he really is."

However, the plan backfires when feisty Sunita uses the information to try and blackmail him into repairing her and Dev's shop.

Furious Owen (Ian Puleston-Davies) then sneaks into Eileen's home to steal the VAT bills - narrowly missing being caught out by Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan) - before calling the police who arrest her at her work place.

Sue added to Inside Soap magazine: "Eileen is absolutely mortified because the police turn up at Underwold and arrest her in front of the girls.

"She works out pretty quickly that Owen is behind it, because he was behaving strangely earlier in the day. Nothing would surprise her about Owen so she knows it was him who took her to the police."
