Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly is reportedly planning to quit the soap when her contract runs out next year.

The actress, who has played Becky McDonald for nearly five years, apparently wants to explore new acting roles but has been assured by producer Phil Collinson that the door will be left open for her.

A source told the Daily Star Sunday: "It came as a huge blow to everyone but, after nearly five years playing Becky, they understood her decision. She wants to go off and try other roles. Becky is one of the soap's most popular characters and since they teamed her up with Steve they've quickly become one of the soap world's favourite couples.

"It was a really hard decision for Katherine as she adores Corrie. She was a huge fan of the show before she joined and will always be grateful for everything that Corrie has done for her. She'll be a big loss but her contract doesn't run out until the end of October so she'll be on screen until next Christmas."

A Coronation Street spokesman said: "Katherine Kelly is committed to Coronation Street to the end of 2011. It would be premature to discuss the departure of any actor when they still have almost 12 months to go on their contract."

I'd prefer Becky to stay she is a great character has involved so much and I'd love her relationships with Steve and the Croppers

Katherine Kelly has played down rumours that she is planning to leave Coronation Street, insisting that she is "really happy" at the soap.

The actress has appeared in the role of Weatherfield's Becky McDonald for nearly five years, but recent reports have suggested that she will quit the part at the end of her current contract.

However, asked by TVNZ whether she is planning to return to her theatre career, Kelly replied: "Oh no, I'm really happy at Coronation Street right now. I've got such a great year coming up with Tracy Barlow [being] back. That's just a gift - Tracy versus Becky.

"I'm definitely happy for now. I know there's a lot of rumours surrounding me going, but that's been for the past two years, so just ignore them for now."

Meanwhile, discussing the complexities of her character, the star explained: "I love playing bad girls, but I do also have a tendency as a person to get bored very easily which is why I never thought being in Corrie would be for me. I never thought playing the same character for four years would stimulate me as much as it does.

"What I love about the writers is that they constantly change Becky [but] they never lose that base rate - the bottom note of the fact that she is feral deep down and a bad girl really. That's always sort of underlying and they've never lost that. So she's not completely reformed but at the same time you can't keep being bad all the time 'cause it's boring."

Kelly is in the running for the 'Best Serial Drama Performance' prize at this year's National Television Awards, which take place on January 26.

A big posh house in the country isn't really Becky McDonald's style, but it turns out it's right up Katherine Kelly's street.

The actress, who has played loud-mouthed Becky for four years in Corrie, would love to don a fancy frock and have a role in one of the country's biggest period dramas.

In an interview with website TVNZ, she said: "We've got great show here in the UK called Downton Abbey, which is a period drama.

"It's like Upstairs Downstairs and everyone would expect that I'd want to be downstairs but I'd definitely want to be upstairs. Put my best arty accent on for that."

However, we probably won't be seeing her in that show for a while, as Katherine dismissed suggestions she's getting itchy feet on the cobbles.

"I'm definitely happy for now. I know there's a lot of rumours surrounding me going but that's been for the past two years so just ignore them for now," she said, and added: "Becky is probably one of the best roles ever on screen. I can't wish for anything else."

Coronation Street's Becky McDonald could be set to go on the run.

The bolshie barmaid - played by Katherine Kelly - is wracked with guilt after stealing money from the corner shop during the tram crash disaster, and believes the only way to stop herself from facing a life behind bars once again is to flee the cobbles.

Simon Gregson - who plays Becky's hapless husband Steve in the ITV1 soap - explained: "Steve reckons it's just a ridiculous solution.

"Whenever Becky gets into any sort of trouble, she wants to run away from it - and Steve thinks that's very childish and stupid. Becky's behaviour is going from bad to worse!"

However, sneaky Steve is equally desperate to keep the shameful truth under wraps, as he believes it could ruin his friendship and solid business relationship with corner shop owner Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin).

Simon added to Inside Soap magazine: "Steve's certain that if Dev knew Becky took the cash, he'd go to the police. But if he thought that Steve did it, then Steve is pretty sure their friendship would mean that Dev might not report him.

"Dev would drop him like a hot potato, though."

Katherine Kelly has revealed that she gets a "buzz" from playing her Coronation Street character Becky McDonald.

The 31-year-old, whose acting career was previously focused on theatre, said that she likes the unpredictability of her role.

When she first arrived on the Street in 2006, Becky came straight from prison.

She told the PA: "I definitely get a buzz from playing the most extreme characters I can.

"Becky is like seven characters in one. She is totally unrecognisable from when she started and yet she has still got that same base note of feral."

Kelly insisted that her time spent on the soap has been "rewarding".

She added: "One minute I feel like I am in some sort of farce with Roy Cropper in the cafe like the odd couple, the young girl and the old man who can't understand each other, and then next moment Becky is in some drugs/crime film and she's smashing up shop windows and diving over bars to try to throttle boyfriends.

"Then another time she is a step-mum to Amy and it is like she is in some kind of chick flick. It has been the most rewarding job."

Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has revealed that she will stay on the soap if there are sufficient storylines for her character.

The actress, who plays Becky McDonald in the ITV1 show, is currently in talks to renew her contract - which runs out in September, The People reports.

Speaking of her future in Weatherfield, she said: "It *depends on what stories they have for Becky. It's always about the roles for me. If the stories are there, I will stay. But I'll know when it feels right to go.

"I always said if they found me a Jack Duckworth I might not go. I guess they have found me a Jack in Steve McDonald, but I will go at some point."

Kelly has previously played down rumours that she is considering quitting the soap.

I wonder how she will exit? She's really screwed up with Liz finding out about her exploits. I enjoyed the way Liz made her squirm on Friday. The other week, Steve read her the riot act, saying every crisis is down to her stupidity and lack of forethought. Becky first appeared as a homeless girl, sleeping in a dorway. Maybe she could go back to that sitiuation. Her selfishness and stupidity should certainly get her there. But before she does, she needs to give Kylie a well-deserved stomping.

Someone like Kylie is sure to have made many bad enemies living the way she does. A drug-delaer she ripped off, a disgruntled ex-boyfiend, an embittered former best pal she screwed over, a landlord who's property she skanked the rent on. Has she been inside? Who did she get on the wrong side of behind the bars? I wonder how long it will be before one of them tracks her down to Weatherfield.

Corrie barmaid Becky McDonald has a very distinctive dress sense.

She loves big earrings, big hair and tiny mini-skirts, all put together in a way that only Becky would choose.

But actress Katherine Kelly reveals if her character is in a bad mood, you can tell by the clothes she is wearing.

She revealed in a web chat on the Corrie website: "Becky dresses how she feels. Bright clothes equals good mood. Dark clothes equals bad mood."

Katherine insists she loves Becky's crazy dress sense.

She said: "I think Becky has got some great items in her wardrobe - she just puts them all together a bit wrong, but Becky thinks she rocks!"

Becky was recently looking a little less stylish after her punch-up with sister Kylie. Katherine revealed a lot of hard work had gone into the cat fight.

She said: "The fight scenes are more technical than they look. You have to concentrate - you can't mess around and you have to look after each other.

"Fights on TV are all about camera angles."

So it didn't hurt as much as it looked like it did then?

After Kylie's quick outburst of her family history, you can see why she's such a little cow. But I'd like to think her elderly scumbag father either died a slow and painful death, and nobody attended his funeral. Either that, or living in loneliness, poverty, debt and squalor on a violent hell-hole sink estate, blighted by drugs, gangs, graffiti, in constant fear of a dose of well-deserved boot soup and knuckle sandwiches. Better still, reduced to a meths drinker under the arches.

Yes, Toyah returns, and has a new career as a carer for severely disabled people. Her rapist has done his time in jail, and is always around to plague and terrorise her. Threats, remarks, and even a bit of hands on the throat put poor Toyah at her wits end. The rapist has a skinful in the Rovers, and drives home. On the way, he crashes into a tree, and spends weeks in intensive care. When he comes out, he is blinded and paralysed from the eyeballs down, unable to walk, talk, feed himself, requiring 24/7 care. Guess who gets the job as his carer, no questions asked. He is at her mercy for whatever abuse and punishment she decides to dish out. He spends long periods of time in his own soiled bed, hungry from a constant diet of gruel, left in darkness, terrified of her footsteps as he knows he faces another vicious beating, and humiliating treatment.

Katherine Kelly is to leave Coronation Street at the end of this year, ITV has announced.

The actress has decided to bow out from her role as fan favourite Becky McDonald after five years in Weatherfield.

Becky is to remain on screen until early 2012 and show bosses have promised that she will feature in dramatic storylines for the remainder of her time on the soap.

The build-up to Becky's exit begins next month when social services start investigating her 'purchase' of nephew Max from half-sister Kylie.

Believing that her arch-nemesis Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) has reported her to the authorities, Becky soon goes on another rampage - putting Tracy's life in jeopardy and risking the future of her marriage to Steve (Simon Gregson). Details of the dramatic showdown leaked yesterday but the plot has now been officially confirmed.

Further twists and turns are then expected in the coming months as the McDonalds' ongoing story heads towards an explosive exit for Becky.

Speaking of her forthcoming departure, Kelly commented: "It's been one of the hardest decisions of my life. I love Coronation Street and everyone here. I have had the most blissful five years, I wouldn't change one moment of it - but it feels like the time is right to say goodbye to Becky."

Corrie's producer Phil Collinson added: "Katherine is a talented actress who has made the character of Becky a firm favourite with the viewers for the past five years and we will miss her as an actress and a valued member of the Coronation Street family.

"That said, we totally respect her desire to move on and viewers can certainly look forward to an electrifying nine months of gripping storylines involving Becky McDonald as we head towards her departure from Weatherfield."

Today's announcement brings months of speculation surrounding Kelly's future at Coronation Street to an end. Reports first indicated that the actress was planning to leave last December.

CORRIE star Katherine Kelly is leaving the soap - but not before she appears in a series of explosive storylines.
And bosses won't kill off her character Becky McDonald in case Katherine decides to return. :cheer:

The actress, 31, who has played the former drug addict and jailbird for five years, wants to try new projects and spend time with family and friends.

She said: "It's been one of the hardest decisions of my life. I love Coronation Street and everyone here. I have had the most blissful time and wouldn't change one moment.

"But it feels the time is right to say goodbye to Becky."

Katherine told Hello! magazine: "I've been told the door will be left open. It's never been about money and, my goodness, how could you get bigger stories than those Becky has had?

"The fact that I have stayed so long is a testimony to the writers and producers - they made it utterly irresistible.

"But there are lots of people in my life I just don't get the chance to see as much as I would like. The down side has been missing special events in my family and friends' lives."

Katherine quits the ITV1 show at the end of this year but viewers won't see her final scenes until early 2012. The dramatic build-up to her exit starts next month.

Becky goes into meltdown after social services start investigating her "purchase" of sister Kylie Turner's son Max. Becky believes Tracy Barlow has reported her to the authorities and goes on the rampage.

It puts Tracy's life in peril and threatens Becky's marriage to Steve McDonald. Producer Phil Collinson said: "We will miss Katherine as an actress and valued member of the Coronation Street family.

"But we respect her desire to move on and viewers can look forward to an electrifying nine months of gripping storylines involving Becky."

Katherine made herself a favourite with fans soon after joining in February 2006.

Roy and Hayley Cropper took Becky under their wing and she turned her life around.

She was engaged to Jason Grimshaw but hooked up with Steve - played by Simon Gregson - who gave her an alibi after she was arrested for a drunken rampage.

The couple famously had a second wedding after Becky turned up so drunk at the first one that the registrar refused to marry them.

Becky, desperate for a child, bought nephew Max from her wild child sister - raising money by looting the corner shop as Sunita lay hurt after the Weatherfield tram crash.

Katherine said in her Hello! interview that she is looking forward to the July wedding of her old school chum, rugby star Mike Tindall, and Zara Phillips.

She said: "I've been told to buy a hat by Mike. He and Zara are so sociable and I've always had fun with them."

Corrie GAINS a key new character when ex-EastEnder Michelle Collins takes over the Rovers - as revealed in TV Biz on Saturday.

Katherine Kelly has revealed the reasons behind her decision to leave Coronation Street, explaining that she would like to work on new projects and spend more time with her loved ones.

Earlier today, it was announced that the actress is bowing out from her role as Becky McDonald after five years in Weatherfield. She will finish filming at the end of the year, but her final scenes will not be broadcast until early 2012.

Speaking of her forthcoming Corrie exit, Kelly told Hello magazine that she will be pursuing new roles, adding: "I've been told the door will be left open. It's never been about money and, my goodness, how could you get bigger stories than those Becky has had?

"The fact that I have stayed so long is a testimony to the writers and producers - they made it utterly irresistible. But there are lots of people in my life I just don't get the chance to see as much as I would like. The downside has been missing special events in my family and friends' lives."

Meanwhile, writing on Twitter this morning, Kelly denied suggestions that her departure followed a 'fallout' with Corrie producers over her storylines.

She told her online followers: "There are some nonsense stories out there today folks. Loved every minute of Corrie. Wouldn't change a thing. Real reasons in Hello only."

The build-up to Becky's departure begins next month when social services start investigating her 'purchase' of nephew Max from half-sister Kylie.

Further twists and turns are then expected in the coming months as show bosses have promised that Becky will feature in dramatic storylines for the remainder of her time on the soap.

Screaming Becky McDonald has to be dragged away after trying to steal back her son Max.

The devastated blonde is led away by husband Steve after trying to get her hands on the little lad who has been taken into care.

Social services swoop on the Rovers Return and take Max after they are tipped off that Becky and Steve bought him from his mother, Becky’s sister Kylie.

Becky – played by Katherine Kelly, 31 – goes into meltdown as she truly bel*ieves the lad is hers.

She manages to find out that he has been placed with a foster family on the other side of Weatherfield.

After tracking them down she heads to their house to see Max.

But his foster parents have been warned not to let anyone near him so they threaten to call the police and have Becky arrested.

Steve (Simon Gregson, 36) manages to get to her before the police do.

In heartbreaking scenes to be screened next month, fans will see Becky howling in anguish as she is separated from Max. She puts up a fight, but is eventually led home by Steve.

The storyline will mark the start of nine months of heavy action for Becky.

It comes after Katherine’s decision to quit the role so she can spend more time with her family.

Ha ha ha! I knew that house of cards would come tumbling down. Becky is in danger of losing her brains every time she sneezes. I remember a few weeks ago, she was blubbing to Hayley, admitting to have done something wrong, but refused to say what. After the agg she has caused, Steve should chuck her on the streets, back to where viewers originally saw her. But before she leaves, please round up Jez Quigley's old gang, Dennis Stringer's Hell's Angel pals, Tracy Barlow and Terry Duckworth's old cell mates, and give poisonous little cow Kylie the shoeing of her life.

Katherine Kelly has said that she chose to leave Coronation Street because it feels like the right time to move on.

The actress, who has portrayed feisty Becky McDonald in the Weatherfield-based soap since 2006, announced earlier this month that she would be leaving Coronation Street at the end of this year, with Becky's last scenes coming in early 2012.

Speaking to 1Xtra's Gemma Cairney, Kelly said that she feels "ready for a change".

"I was just waiting for this wave to come along when the storylines dipped, and then you'd think, 'This is it, you've had your moment!'" she explained.

"But I turned to Simon Gregson (on-screen husband Steve McDonald), and said, 'I'm waiting for this dip', and he said to me, 'It hasn't dipped for me in 20 years, and if you're going to go, you're going to have to tell them'. So that's kind of the way it's gone!"

She added: "They are leaving it open for me, I would hate to say goodbye to Becky. I might be able to 'do a Liz' and rock back up! Sort Amy Barlow out when she's 18!"

Asked about her future plans, Kelly said: "I just want to try and concentrate and make sure that Becky gets the send-off that she deserves and that the viewers deserve."

Recently, co-star Kim Marsh defended Kelly's departure, dismissing rumours that ill feeling between the actress and producers was behind the decision for Becky to leave and adding that the actress is "a lovely person".

It's never easy leaving a long-running, successful role, but at least Katherine Kelly can comfort herself with the amount of love she's received from fans since announcing her plan to quit Coronation Street.

She's received hundreds of messages on Twitter from well-wishers, and responded by writing: "I am utterly blown away by all your lovely tweets. What a treat to come home to."

Katherine also revealed that some people had come up with ideas about Becky's departure, saying: "I'm laughing at all your ideas for Bex exit story. Esp ones involving Roy! You are too funny!"

Although the actress has no post-Corrie projects lined up just yet, it seems a musical career could be beckoning. A remix of her song If It's Too Late, recorded for the Coronation Street album Rogues, Angels, Heroes & Fools, is currently climbing the US club charts.

You never know, if she's successful, Katherine could be the next Cheryl Cole!

Katherine Kelly has explained why her decision to quit Coronation Street was announced so early.

The actress revealed that she will be leaving her role as Becky McDonald last month. However, she will remain in the ITV1 soap until early next year.

Speaking on ITV's This Morning, Kelly admitted that the decision was made to release the news prior to the British Soap Awards because she had been forced to avoid the press at a recent event.

"I don't like lying, which is ridiculous because I do it for a living pretending to be someone else, but I didn't want to lie to you guys in the press and everything," she said. "Because I had seen Phil Collinson by that point in time and we'd had a discussion about it.

"He was still [saying], 'Well we'll go away and have another think', but we were already in talks so we decided to release the information for the Soap Awards, so at least I can talk about it!"

However, Kelly - who will finish filming on December 18 - confessed that while she didn't like having to spoil the outcome of storylines by confirming her departure, the door will be left open for a possible return.

"That was the first thing I said," she recalled. "'I think I'm ready to go Phil but please don't kill me off!'. I'd hate to see the end of Becky. I really would. I've watched Corrie all my life and I'm a viewer as much as anyone, I'd just hate that."

Coronation Street's Steve McDonald will file for divorce from wife Becky in a forthcoming storyline twist, a report has claimed.

According to the Daily Star, the final straw for the pair's marriage comes when Becky uses alcohol to ease her pain yet again, before drunkenly cheating on Steve with 'Noodle', one of her unsavoury old acquaintances.

Becky's latest meltdown is thought to occur after social services investigate her 'purchase' of nephew Max and take the youngster into care.

After stealing Steve's credit card and spending time drowning her sorrows away from the cobbles, Becky reportedly returns to the street and tells her husband: "I had a different bloke every night and Noodle was twice the man you'll ever be."

Discussing Steve's decision to seek a divorce, a Weatherfield insider told the newspaper: "Steve just can't handle it any more. Becky's behaviour has pushed him over the edge."

Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky, will be leaving Coronation Street at the end of the year, but show bosses have promised that she will stay at the centre of dramatic storylines for the remainder of her time on the street.

Katherine Kelly has admitted that her Coronation Street exit will inevitably spell the end of her alter ego Becky McDonald's relationship with husband Steve.

Speaking to TV Times, the actress, who will bow out of the Weatherfield soap later this year after five years on the cobbles, said that it was a sad thing to accept that Steve, played by Simon Gregson, is bound to be left behind when Becky departs.

"I watch Corrie, too, and I am sad because it means that Becky and Steve will break up. They have to, there's no other option," Kelly said.

"I know I have only myself to blame because I'm leaving. People keep asking me why and it's a bit boring really. I'm in my fifth year at Corrie and I feel ready for a change, that's all."

Commenting on the upcoming drama, Kelly revealed that Becky's world will begin to unravel but she "doesn't sense the danger ahead".

Earlier today, it was reported that Steve is to file for divorce from wife Becky in the build-up to Kelly's dramatic departure.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that Kelly is up for 'Best Soap Actress' at this year's TV Choice Awards.

Coronation Street star Paula Lane has revealed that the soap's bosses have not yet reached a firm decision over how her on-screen sister Katherine Kelly will depart the cobbles.

As announced last month, Kelly's character Becky McDonald will be leaving Weatherfield in early 2012 as the actress has decided to bow out from the role.

Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, Lane explained that there are currently a number of possible storylines on the table as the soap's team make plans for Becky's exit.

She said: "No-one knows how Becky is going to leave the street and that is how they want to leave it for her. They've come up with six different endings for her at the minute and they can't make up their minds which one to go for.

"That's how secret they are going to keep it. But I don't think they'd ever kill off a character like Becky. All I know is I'm going to miss Kate so much. She's been an amazing friend."

Asked whether her own character Kylie Turner could fill the void left behind by Becky, Lane commented: "I would never even try and follow in somebody else's footsteps. I really feel and hope the viewers feel that I've created something that is quite different."

Becky will be one of the characters to take centre stage in a dramatic week for Coronation Street which begins on Sunday.

Becky McDonald will leave Coronation Street after husband Steve gets Tracy Barlow pregnant, it has been reported.

Actress Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky, revealed earlier this year that she is leaving the ITV1 soap after five years.

Rival Tracy will allegedly miscarry her unborn child before provoking Becky into attacking her. Steve (Simon Gregson) wrongly blames Becky for Tracy's miscarriage and states that he wants her out of his life for good, adding that he'll never forgive her.

"We are all sad to see Kate leave as she has been one of the biggest and most talented stars," an insider told the News of the World.

"But we understand her decision - and Phil feels delighted to give her a typically feisty exit storyline."

The storyline begins when Steve breaks up with Becky and gets with Tracy, the mother of his daughter Amy. Tracy (Kate Ford) hatches a plot to blame Becky for her miscarriage after discovering that she had a one-night stand with Steve.

Kelly's final scenes will be aired in December. The door will be left open for her return.

Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has revealed that she enjoyed the challenge of her character's latest rampage scenes.

Last week, viewers saw a crazed Becky McDonald smash up Tracy Barlow's living room with a sledgehammer, wrongly believing that her arch-nemesis had reported her to social services for buying nephew Max.

Discussing the shock scenes, Kelly told Scotland's Sunday Mail newspaper: "My brothers laugh their heads off when they see me like that. I am tough in my mind, very strong-willed, but when it comes to physicality, I'm a bit pathetic.

"My shopping bag bangs into my shin and it bruises. So it takes a lot for me, and it always has done, to make Becky look like a street fighter. I do find those scenes full on."

She continued: "There was Ken and Deirdre Barlow, Tracy and Steve. I thought to myself, 'I've got four Coronation Street icons in this room - and they have given me a sledgehammer'. You can have all the health and safety you want but I thought, 'I better not mess this up and bash somebody!'

"It took us six hours to shoot that scene. I did swear a few times after those takes but what a thrill. I do love all that. The further removed from me, Katherine Kelly, the more of a buzz it gives me."

Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly has insisted that her character Becky McDonald is "different" to her on-screen half-sister Kylie (Paula Lane).

Kelly is due to leave Coronation Street by the end of 2011, while Lane joined production in August last year as Kylie Turner.

The actress explained that Lane portrays a different kind of character than her own, and went on to praise her abilities.

Kelly said: "I don't really like it that people put us in the same vein as she is a great actress in her own right.

"She is a half-sister and she is a very different character and Paula will be in the show as long as she wants to be.

"I am incredibly proud of her and I feel protective of her. She is not much older than my sister in real life and I am proud of everything she has done. She will just go from strength to strength."

Kelly recently described her character's rampage scenes in the soap as "a thrill".

Coronation Street hellraiser Becky McDonald has been tipped to sleep with businessman Nick Tilsley in a forthcoming storyline twist.

The fiery blonde, played by departing actress Katherine Kelly, jumps into bed with Nick (Ben Price) in the coming weeks after failing to reunite with husband Steve, according to the Daily Star.

It is thought that Becky only goes ahead with the fling in a bid to make Steve (Simon Gregson) jealous following their recent problems.

However, the plan is expected to backfire badly when it pushes Steve back into the arms of his scheming ex Tracy Barlow, who has been pursuing him for months.

Rumours suggest that Tracy will fall pregnant after she and Steve have a one-night stand of their own, sparking a chain of events which lead to Becky's exit from Weatherfield.

Coronation Street viewers will see Becky return to The Rovers in next week's episodes, hoping to get her marriage back on track. However, she is soon left disappointed when Steve announces that he wants a divorce.

The latest love twist rumours remain unconfirmed but show bosses announced in April that Becky will leave the cobbles in early 2012.

Nick was also recently tipped for a romance with newcomer Eva Price as part of a 'Summer of Love' for Coronation Street.

The storyline in Corrie are becoming totally crap. They seem to be going for sensationalism. Is it because they are trying to compete with Deadenders. They are two very different soaps aimed at two different audiences. Definately Emmerdale is the best of the three at the moment. It seems that Corrie bosses and scriptwriters just want to punish anyone who wants to leave or who doesnt fit in now.

Coronation Street star Simon Gregson has admitted that he wants his character Steve McDonald to avoid relationships for the foreseeable future.

Earlier this week, viewers saw Steve's marriage to Becky reach the end of the line as he finally grew tired of her erratic behaviour.

Pondering Steve's future, Gregson told Inside Soap: "I think he should remain celibate for a while. Steve tends to like women who are slightly deranged - though he often doesn't realise until it's too late!

"It's obviously up to the writers to devise a future for him, but I reckon he really needs to concentrate on getting things back on track with his family and his work and businesses."

Recent press reports have suggested that Steve may soon have a one-night stand with his scheming ex Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford). However, the rumoured plot twist remains unconfirmed by Coronation Street bosses.

Asked for his thoughts on a Steve and Tracy reunion, Gregson replied: "Now that really would be like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. Steve is mad, but I'm not sure he's that mad. You never know what the writers might have in store for him, though.

"He knows that Tracy is keen on him - but it might not be the best move for Steve."

After spending the past 22 years playing Steve McDonald, Simon Gregson can now be regarded as a Coronation Street veteran.

But when he started out as a teenager, he admits that working alongside established actors could be daunting.

"I was in awe of people like William Roache (Ken Barlow) and Johnny Briggs (Mike Baldwin) when I started," Simon told Inside Soap. "You knew you were joining something big with those types of actors."

But one person in particular stood out: "Bill Tarmey (Jack Duckworth) often gave me advice - he did that with a lot of the younger cast members. He'd advise me how to think differently about a scene, or see something I'd done and praise me by saying, 'Keep that up'."

Simon is in the thick of things once again next week when Steve ditches wife Becky.

"I think he should remain celibate for a while," added the actor. "It's obviously up to the writers to devise a future for him, but I reckon he really needs to concentrate on getting things back on track with his family and his work and his businesses."

Coronation Street's troubled Becky McDonald will plot to kidnap Fiz Stape's baby daughter Hope in a forthcoming storyline, a report has claimed.

The former barmaid starts making her shock plan after striking up a bond with the youngster as they both continue living under the same roof at the Croppers' home in the coming weeks, The Sun claims.

Becky was recently left devastated when her nephew Max was taken into care. She had previously purchased the child from half-sister Kylie as her adoption dreams had been crushed and she is unable to have children of her own.

Hope, meanwhile, is living with Roy and Hayley while Fiz awaits trial in prison after being implicated in her husband John's crime spree.

However, when Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) decides that she wants Hope to move to the jail's mother and baby unit, Becky reportedly springs into action and considers fleeing Weatherfield with the baby.

A Coronation Street source told the newspaper: "Becky is baby-mad and is desperate for one. She grows close to Hope and dreams of bringing her up as her own."

The insider added: "Becky isn't thinking straight and believes jail is no place for a baby."

Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky, finishes filming with the soap later this year and her final scenes air in 2012.

Katherine Kelly has revealed that she would "always" consider a return to Coronation Street.

The Becky McDonald actress, who announced her departure in April, will last be seen on the Weatherfield serial at the end of this year.

Speaking at last night's TV Choice Awards, she told Yahoo: "I would always consider going back to Coronation Street.

"I've had the nicest time there. I'm really only leaving for a change and I made that really clear."

The 31-year-old actress confirmed that producers have granted her request not to be killed off.

"No she won't [be killed off], that's the one thing I can tell you," the star said.

Of whether Becky will reconcile with estranged husband Steve, Kelly added: "I don't know. She's very hurt about the pregnancy thing.

Katherine Kelly has revealed that her upcoming theatre role is the "opposite" of playing Becky McDonald in Coronation Street.

The actress will leave the soap in December after playing the barmaid for five years. She will appear in a new production of Oliver Goldsmith's play She Stoops To Conquer at London's National Theatre from January.

"I'm so excited and I'm really looking forward to it all but I'm trying not to think too much about that so I can concentrate on giving Becky the send-off she deserves," she told the Press Association.

"I finish Coronation Street on the Friday and start rehearsals for that on Monday and it's the complete opposite, it couldn't be a more opposite role to Becky.

"It's in the 1700s set in the west country, the restoration period. [My character] pretends to be a maid to conquer the man she wants to marry."

Kelly added that she originally planned to travel after finishing work on the soap, but that the theatre opportunity was too good to turn down.

"To be honest I was really happy about having a rest in January. When [Coronation Street producer] Phil Collinson and I had the chat about leaving I had such plans.

"I never did the travelling thing because I went to RADA at 18 until I was 21 then went straight into work and that was it. So I was going to Cambodia, Vietnam, I had it all lined up, two months with a backpack on, but no - it's always the best laid plans."

Katherine Kelly recently said that she will "always" be open for a return to Coronation Street in the future.

Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has joked that she is to blame for her character Becky McDonald's recent split from husband Steve.

Becky and Steve (Simon Gregson) hit the rocks earlier this year as the pressure of Tracy Barlow's (Kate Ford) return and losing custody of Max took its toll on their relationship.

Kelly announced her decision to leave Coronation Street in April and her final scenes will air in early 2012, when the Becky, Steve and Tracy love triangle reaches its climax.

In an interview with This Morning as part of the programme's Soap's Leading Ladies series, the actress was asked why Becky and Steve's romance had to come to an end.

Kelly replied: "Because I handed my notice in and they had to break us up! I think if I wasn't going, I really think that it would still go on.

"In fact, I know when Kate Ford came back, I spoke to the producer and he said, 'This is what is going to happen, and if you decide to stay then it won't break them up, and if you do decide to go then it will break them up'."

Admitting that the break-up was her fault, Kelly laughed: "That's what Simon Gregson says to me when I say it's so sad, and he says, 'Well it's your own fault!'"

The 31-year-old added that she will miss playing her character once she films her final scenes later this year.

Kelly said: "I'm already tearing up, my leaving do I might not bother putting mascara on that night - I'm going to really miss… Well she might not be away forever, we'll see!"

The pair were pictured outside The Midland Hotel in Manchester as they shot a bittersweet moment for the estranged couple, who split earlier this year.

The scenes see Becky sharing a hug with Steve following a deep conversation, before bidding farewell to him and sadly walking off alone.

Full storyline details for the scenes are expected to emerge later this year. However, some reports have speculated that this could be the moment that Steve makes his final choice to stay with pregnant Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) rather than reuniting with Becky.

Kelly announced her decision to leave Coronation Street in April and she is expected to finish filming next month. Her final scenes will air in early 2012.

BECKY McDonald is in tears as she says goodbye to her ex-lover Steve for the final time in new scenes from Coronation Street.

The blonde, played by Katherine Kelly, sobs as she walks away from Steve (Simon Gregson) after he chooses Tracy over her.

His decision comes after scheming Tracy (Kate Ford) tells him she's pregnant with twins following their one-night stand.

Katherine Kelly is leaving the ITV1 soap early next year and it's thought the love triangle between Steve, Becky and Tracy will play a big part in her dramatic exit storyline.

These scenes, which were filmed outside The Midland Hotel in Manchester last night, see Becky and Steve having a deep conversation before she hugs him and walks away.

Tracy, who suspects the pair have gone to a hotel for a night of lust, is then seen arriving outside in a taxi after an emotional Becky has left the scene.

Corrie bosses recently announced that ex-Holby City star Jeremy Sheffield will join the cobbles as Becky's new love interest later this year.

Katherine, 31, said she thinks soap bosses broke off the relationship between Becky and Steve after she announced she was leaving the soap last April.

She explained: "I handed in my notice and they had to break us up! I think if I wasn't going, I really think that it would still go on.

"In fact, I know when Kate Ford came back, I spoke to the producer and he said, 'This is what is going to happen, and if you decide to stay then it won't break them up, and if you do decide to go then it will break them up'."

Coronation Street's Becky McDonald will be falsely accused of killing Tracy Barlow's unborn babies in a forthcoming storyline, a report has claimed.

Becky, played by Katherine Kelly, will be left devastated when Tracy (Kate Ford) makes the malicious claim against her later this year, according to the Daily Star.

The latest twist in the pair's ongoing war over Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) is believed to begin when Tracy suspects that Becky has spent the night with the Rovers boss.

When Becky denies any rendezvous with Steve, the two women row - which leads to Tracy slipping and falling down a set of stairs.

Tracy is expected to quickly use the situation to her advantage, claiming that Becky has killed her babies as she is rushed to hospital.

However, viewers will know that Tracy is lying as she suffers a miscarriage a few days before the altercation - meaning that the loss of her and Steve's twins has nothing to do with Becky.

Tracy knows that her false claim is the perfect way to destroy Becky's reputation, and Steve is quickly fooled by her lies.

As Tracy's mum Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) knows the truth of the matter, the schemer reportedly begs her to keep quiet, saying: "He has to believe it was Becky's fault or he'll go back to her. If you don't support me on this, it's the end of me and Steve."

Early details of this storyline first emerged back in June. The plot is expected to build up to Becky's departure from the cobbles in the New Year.

Coronation Street's Becky McDonald will get the last laugh in her war against Tracy Barlow by ruining her wedding, a report has claimed. :cheer:

Tracy (Kate Ford) has been tipped to return to her devious ways in the coming weeks when she accuses Becky of killing her unborn twins by pushing her down a set of stairs.

However, viewers will know that Tracy is lying as she suffers a natural miscarriage a few days earlier - and her subsequent fall occurs when she slips accidentally during an argument with Becky (Katherine Kelly).

According to the Daily Star today, Becky will resort to desperate measures when her ex Steve (Simon Gregson) believes new lover Tracy over her. It is thought that Becky breaks into the Weatherfield medical centre and steals Tracy's records, which prove that the schemer's tragic baby loss had nothing to do with her.

Sources say that Becky reveals the news just as Steve is about to marry Tracy, storming into the ceremony to clear her name.

Becky is then expected to leave the cobbles for good as she heads to Dubai with new boyfriend Danny Stratton (Jeremy Sheffield).

When Steve races to the airport in a last-ditch attempt to win her back, Becky apparently tells him: "You had your chance, McDonald. In fact you had loads of chances and blew 'em all. And I've finally met the man who I know I'll love unconditionally and that he'll love me the same way, so no way Jose."

While storyline details remain unconfirmed by Coronation Street bosses, fans know that Becky's final scenes will air in early 2012.

Last month, we brought you on-location pictures showing Coronation Street stars Katherine Kelly and Simon Gregson filming an emotional moment for Becky and Steve - and the full storyline can now be revealed.

The pair were pictured outside The Midland Hotel in Manchester in early November as they shot what appeared to be a bittersweet scene for their characters.

Coronation Street will air the moment in question at the end of next week after Becky and Steve head to a hotel together for a business meeting.

After Becky has bought Lloyd's share of Streetcars using cash from her divorce settlement, she sets up a meeting with hotel manager Danny Stratton over a possible contract.

Becky is keen to deal with this one on her own, but Steve can't resist joining her at the hotel - where they eventually manage to get Danny to set up an account following a shaky start.

Later, left alone with Steve, Becky makes a last-ditch attempt to win him back - but, although he's tempted, he turns her down for the sake of his unborn twins.

Before they head back to the street separately, the former couple share an emotional hug outside the hotel and it's a reminder of what they once had. However, what they don't know is that Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) has discovered their secret meeting and now wrongly believes they're having an affair.

Feeling angry and emotional, Tracy's turmoil is only just beginning as she suddenly experiences intense pain and realises she may be losing the twins - sparking the final explosive chapter of her love triangle with Steve and Becky...

Hotel manager Danny - played by Jeremy Sheffield - is also expected to play a bigger role in the story as show bosses have billed him as a new love interest for Becky.

The actress, who announced her decision to leave the show earlier this year, shot her final scenes as Becky McDonald today (December 9).

Kelly took to Twitter this morning to tell fans: "Last day filming on the cobbles..."

She returned to the microblogging site in the evening to announce: "It is done. Becky has left the Street! I hope you enjoy the departure Corrie viewers. Final eps on screen Mid Jan. Enjoy! It's all for you x"

Fellow Corrie star Paula Lane, who plays Becky's half-sister Kylie Platt, expressed her sadness at Kelly's departure from the soap.

"Filming some very emotional scenes today with my on screen big sis @katherine_kelly," she tweeted. "Everyone is gonna miss her so much :-("

Earlier this week, details were revealed of an emotional scene outside a hotel between Becky and Steve (Simon Gregson), which forms part of the final chapter in the ongoing love triangle between the two characters and Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).

Becky is also rumoured to be involved in dramatic scenes in this year's Christmas Day episode.

Speaking of her choice to leave the show, Kelly previously said: "It's been one of the hardest decisions of my life.

"I love Coronation Street and everyone here. I have had the most blissful five years, I wouldn't change one moment of it - but it feels like the time is right to say goodbye to Becky."

Coronation Street's Katherine Kelly is hoping to convert more soap fans to theatre by starring on stage.
The Corrie star is leaving the street after five years of playing feisty Becky McDonald and will star in a new production of She Stoops to Conquer at London's National Theatre in January.
Katherine told the TV Times: "Theatre should be for everyone to see, just as television is for everyone to watch.
"My dad was an Irish immigrant who worked in a mine and one of his favourite plays is Waiting for Godot.
"Even if a handful of people who watch Corrie, who would normally walk past a production like that, stop and book a ticket because I'm in it, I'll be happy."
The 32-year-old actress revealed she is fulfilling a lifelong ambition to appear on stage at the National.
She said: "When I was at drama school in London, I used to walk across Waterloo Bridge, look at the National and think, 'It would be fabulous to work there', so I know how lucky I am - and the part is great and feisty."

When does she leave on screen?

Coronation Street's Gail McIntyre has never had much of a chance to get revenge after Tracy Barlow told lies about her in court, but could the opportunity be about to present itself?

According to All About Soap, Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly) will soon beg Gail (Helen Worth) for help as she battles to prove that Tracy is telling lies about her miscarriage.

Tracy (Kate Ford) recently managed to turn Steve (Simon Gregson) against Becky for good by claiming that the feisty blonde killed her babies by pushing her down the stairs. However, viewers know that Tracy fell - and that she actually lost the twins the night before the accident.

While the exact nature of Becky's request to Gail hasn't been revealed, we all know that the Weatherfield mum used to work at the medical centre - and reports have suggested that Becky will try to steal Tracy's records to prove that she's lying.

Could Gail's history at the medical centre provide an opportunity to clear Becky's name and settle the old score with Tracy? Or will she decide that she doesn't want to be a part of it?

Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has confirmed that her character Becky McDonald will be going all-out to clear her name in the build-up to her departure from Weatherfield.

Becky was recently left devastated when scheming Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) accused her of causing her miscarriage by pushing her down a set of stairs.

Viewers are aware that Tracy is lying as she slipped rather than being pushed - and she actually lost her babies the night before. However, Steve (Simon Gregson) has been fooled by Tracy's claims.

Kelly told This Morning today: "Becky's got to clear her name now - that's the thing. She's worked really hard, it's been this lovely redemption story and the Croppers have trained her to be a good woman.

"And now not only has she lost the love of her life, it looks like she might lose her good name - which is what she's worked so hard to achieve. The last couple of weeks, which is all it is now on screen, really is for Becky to prove that she is not the evil person that Tracy is making her out to be."

Kelly also admitted that bowing out from Coronation Street was an emotional experience. She departed the soap in December.

"My last day on set - I actually filmed my final scenes with the Croppers, when she does say goodbye to them," the actress explained. "Myself and Julie [Hesmondhalgh] who plays Hayley - well, she was beside herself! She didn't stop crying in between the takes!

"And then with Simon, it wasn't quite the last scene but it was a very emotional scene. Because we film out of order, I actually filmed my final scenes three weeks before I left. But I'm really looking forward to watching it all, with the rest of the nation!"

Kelly is currently in rehearsals for comedy play She Stoops To Conquer, which begins a run at the National Theatre in London later this month.

Coronation Street newcomer Jeremy Sheffield has praised his character Danny Stratton's blossoming relationship with Becky McDonald, claiming that they have a "special" connection.

Becky (Katherine Kelly) first met Danny in early December, when she approached the hotel manager over a possible contract with cab firm Streetcars. Viewers will see the pair grow much closer in upcoming episodes.

However, just as their romance is developing, Danny will be left with a big decision to make when he lands a work transfer to Barbados.

Sheffield told Soaplife: "It's a fantastic opportunity, but bad timing. He's devastated because he saw Becky as a chance of happiness, of the sort that doesn't come along very often. But he decides to go."

"He's thinking about asking her to go with him," the actor continued. "It's quick, but if you have that chemistry and it's such a special thing, you don't want to just let it go because it's not a regular relationship - it's something much more. For Danny, it could be a risk worth taking."

Sheffield also confirmed that Danny could play a part in helping to clear Becky's name after Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) falsely accused her of causing her miscarriage.

"Danny spots Tracy and he remembers how she collapsed and was carted off in an ambulance," he said. "Becky wonders if this might help her to prove she wasn't responsible for Tracy's miscarriage."

Coronation Street continues tonight at 8.30pm on ITV1.

Coronation Street's Becky McDonald is to get her own tribute documentary, ITV has confirmed today.

Farewell Becky will air on ITV1 on January 24, taking a look back at the blonde's greatest moments and exploring how they made it onto the screen.

Katherine Kelly, who recently shot her final scenes as Becky, has filmed an exclusive interview for the programme - while a number of her co-stars have also recorded contributions to the show.

An ITV statement explained: "The character of Becky may have started out as a petty criminal, but she went on to steal the hearts of the nation.

"So, as viewers prepare to say farewell to one of the best-loved characters in British soap, we follow Becky's journey from her first appearance in a police station, through her many triumphs and traumas - ending with her emotional send-off on the show.

"We hear how Katherine made the character of Becky her own after coming into the show in 2006, where the inspiration for those outlandish costumes come from - and fellow actors reveal all on how Katherine doesn't hold back when it comes to the fight scenes or even the soap's more intimate moments!"

Former Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay will narrate the show, while Simon Gregson (Steve), Kate Ford (Tracy), Ryan Thomas (Jason), Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley), David Neilson (Roy) and Paula Lane (Kylie) are among the current cast members who will feature.

Farewell Becky airs on Tuesday, January 24 at 7.30pm on ITV1.

Coronation Street star Paula Lane has admitted that her mischievous character Kylie Platt will be sad to see half-sister Becky leave the cobbles.

Becky's final scenes air later this month following Katherine Kelly's decision to depart the show after six years.

Although Kylie and Becky have a turbulent history, the pair have found themselves on better terms in recent weeks.

Lane told Soaplife of Becky's exit: "Kylie will be bereft. She's thrilled for Becky, but it brings back the memories about when Becky left her last time. They have made amends and she is going to miss her a lot."

The build-up to Becky's departure sees her face a big decision as her new love interest Danny Stratton (Jeremy Sheffield) asks her to move to Barbados with him and his young son.

"Kylie would love to see Becky happy again," Lane added. "It is a fresh start for the pair of them - there is no rivalry any more. They both look like being able to start a new chapter."

Kylie proves to be one of Becky's only allies next week as the feisty blonde fights to clear her name following Tracy Barlow's (Kate Ford) false allegations over her miscarriage.

Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has admitted that she is shocked by Steve McDonald's blind faith in scheming Tracy Barlow.

Tracy (Kate Ford) has set out to destroy Kelly's character Becky in recent weeks, falsely claiming that the feisty blonde caused her miscarriage by pushing her down a set of stairs.

Fans of the soap know that Tracy is lying as she actually lost her babies the night before the incident at Becky's flat, which saw her slip down the stairs accidentally following a row.

However, Steve (Simon Gregson) has chosen to believe Tracy's version of events, despite her history of lies and manipulation.

Kelly told itv.com: "It's like Steve has just lost his memory. Everything that Tracy Barlow has done to him over the past seven years, long before I was even on the scene, has just been wiped and he now believes Tracy.

"Tracy says that Becky pushed her down the stairs, she says that she didn't - and he believes Tracy. Come on!"

This week's Coronation Street episodes see Becky step up her attempts to clear her name, asking Gail McIntyre (Helen Worth) for help with breaking into Tracy's records at the local medical centre.

Reports have suggested that Becky will eventually get the proof she needs, but Kelly kept tight-lipped over what is ahead.

She said: "The end is nigh. Will she get the medical records? Will Gail help her out? Will Steve believe Becky over Tracy? Just keep watching and then you'll find out, won't you?"

Becky's final Coronation Street episodes air on Monday, January 23 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV1.

Coronation Street star Paula Lane has revealed that working alongside screen sister Katherine Kelly was an "inspiring" experience.

Kelly filmed her final scenes for the ITV1 soap late last year and fans will see her alter ego Becky McDonald bow out from the cobbles in a week's time.

Lane's character Kylie, meanwhile, will be sticking around in Weatherfield for the foreseeable future as her married life with David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) continues.

Discussing Kelly's departure, Lane told The Mirror: "I have had a good 12 months to get used to the idea. I have known pretty much since I started, but I do feel that Katherine has taught me a lot and there is no point in being upset about it.

"She has made such a mark on this show, it just inspires me to achieve the same things that she has."

The actress added that Kylie has mixed feelings as Becky's exit storyline unfolds on screen.

"She is thrilled for Becky, but when it happens it is a massive shock to her," Lane confirmed.

IT'S a triple whammy for the Barlows as Becky rocks Coronation Street with a series of sensational revelations.
In some of the most dramatic scenes in the soap's history, she WRECKS Tracy Barlow's wedding by proving she lied about the cause of her miscarriage.

And as Tracy's web of deceit unravels next week, long-suffering Ken Barlow CHUCKS Deirdre out for covering for her daughter.

Then Tracy's brother Peter is exposed as a HOME WRECKER.

But Kate Ford, who plays evil schemer Tracy, admits she can't feel sorry for her.

Kate told TV Biz: "When I watched it, I didn't feel any sympathy for Tracy. She is quite cold and when she wants her own way, she will do whatever it takes.

"As soon as Tracy loses control she turns nasty, which is in her nature. I don't think she gets up in the morning wanting to be nasty, she can't cope with things not going her way. She thinks she deserves happiness."

Tracy, who is set to wed Steve McDonald, had claimed her love rival, his ex Becky, pushed her downstairs, leading her to miscarry their twins.

But she will be left sobbing on the floor in her wedding dress when Becky hands Steve medical records showing she lost the twins the day before she claimed Becky had attacked her.

Upset ... Ken Barlow (William Roache) chucks out Deirde (Anne Kirkbride)
The stunning storyline marks the exit of Katherine Kelly after five years as hellraiser Becky — and even made the actress weep.
In nail-biting scenes, viewers will see Becky struggle with whether she is doing the right thing. But after a tearful confrontation with Steve on the wedding morning, she decides to make the revelation public.

Kate said: "It's quite sad because Tracy did discover that Steve had feelings for Becky. The way she dealt with it was wrong but she was acting in fear.

"She just didn't want to lose what she had wanted for so long. It's dark but the way she sees it is that Becky pushed her emotionally."

Viewers see Becky expose Tracy as a liar before turning on Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) who had covered for her. Ken (Bill Roache) is disgusted.

Happy, for now ... it all goes wrong for Tracy Barlow and Steve McDonald
Kate said: "It's a mother daughter thing — she doesn't believe there is any wrong in her. Ken disowns her and throws her out in the street."
The messy aftermath will see Tracy and Steve living in their new house divided by a partition wall as Tracy desperately tries to salvage their relationship.

Kate said: "She will fight tooth and nail to keep Steve — she has been talking him round for 15 years!"

Kate is contracted to be in the soap until next autumn but hopes her character will be able to stay on.

Katherine watched the sensational scenes that signal her departure at a preview screening.

She said afterwards: "I hope people will be cheering for Becky when they watch the episode. Tracy has been so mean — she set out to destroy Becky and that's what she did.

From better, to worse ... Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) is exposed as a home wrecker
"It's great that Becky gets to go out with a bang — she drops the bomb then leaves the carnage behind.
"I actually cried twice during the episode — once when her and Steve have that final showdown in the street.

"And then I got really teary watching her saying goodbye to Roy and Hayley. Hayley's tears are totally real, Julie (Hesmondhalgh) who plays her was a right mess on the day.

"We've become so close and she kept crying all the time even though we were seeing each other a week later. She was crying between takes."

Producers went all-out for Becky's exit. It includes the traditional ride in a Street Cars cab but becomes a race against time with Steve dashing to the airport to try to stop her flying off with Danny Stratton (Jeremy Sheffield).

Viewers will see Becky for the final time in the first-class cabin of a plane in scenes filmed at Manchester airport.

Producers decided killing off the character would have been a "cop-out".

Katherine said: "I'm so glad they didn't kill her off — that would have been too easy. This way she's always going to be a cloud hanging over Steve because she could come back at any moment.

Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has admitted that she wants fans of the soap to cheer on Becky McDonald as she gets her revenge against Tracy Barlow. I most certainly will cheer her on :D

Tracy (Kate Ford) has falsely accused Becky of causing her recent miscarriage, but the truth is finally exposed at the schemer's wedding next week.

Once Becky has obtained her enemy's medical records to clear her name, she wrecks Tracy and Steve's (Simon Gregson) big day - getting the last laugh.

Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has predicted that Becky McDonald's departure storyline will prove a hit with fans.

Becky makes an explosive exit from Weatherfield next week, wrecking Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) and Steve McDonald's (Simon Gregson) wedding day by exposing her arch-rival's twisted lies.

The feisty blonde leaves the cobbles shortly afterwards, but she has a big decision to make as she can either start a new life in Barbados with love interest Danny Stratton (Jeremy Sheffield) - or head off alone to pick up the pieces following recent events.

Kelly told the Worksop Guardian: "I think it's just not the ending that you maybe would expect. I certainly didn't expect it. I know they were wrestling for ages with what to do with her.

"The joy of Becky is that she's always been able to do everything at any point, and you never really know which way she's going to go. She's been through so many twists and turns. For me, it would have been completely believable if her final episodes would have been her on a park bench high as a kite! Because why not?

"It could have been anything, really. But the ending that they chose and they wrote is really fitting and I hope it's what the nation would want for her. It's certainly what I would want for her. Hopefully it just wasn't too predictable."

Coronation Street airs Becky's final episodes on Monday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV1.

CORRIE chiefs are considering a comeback for Becky McDonald – and she hasn’t even left yet.
Viewers will see Becky – played by Katherine Kelly – exit the soap on Monday after almost six years. However, Corrie producer Phil Collinson says he would love to have the popular character back one day.
Asked if he’s ruled out a return for party girl Becky, he said: “No. I’d love that. I remember being a viewer when Sarah Lancashire as Raquel came back.

“What an amazing piece of TV that was. It felt so important and iconic. I read it was going to happen and thought, ‘Oh my God, that’s genius.’ And it delivered. It was everything you wanted it to be. So I’d love to do something like that with Katherine.”
When Becky bids farewell, viewers will see the cast weep for real. Mr Collinson said: “They were genuine tears for all of us. It’s a close team. You have to be when you’re making that much television.”
Becky’s exit on ITV will be played out across two episodes. Katherine, 32, is currently in rehearsals for a new play, She Stoops To Conquer, which starts later this month.
She will play feisty 18th Century heroine Kate Hardcastle. Katherine said: "I asked for a change and it is exactly that. It's so opposite to Becky it's fantastic."

Katherine Kelly has described her Coronation Street storyline with Jeremy Sheffield as her "leaving present".
The actress, who plays Becky McDonald, bows out from the soap next week and said her character's recent romance with the Holby City hunk has been a nice way to round off her time on the Street.
She said: "I thought, 'Well done girl, not bad.' He's lovely, I mean, what a gift, hey? He's like a leaving present. How marvellous."
Jeremy, also known for his stint on Dancing On Ice, joined the ITV1 soap last month to play flash hotel manager Danny Stratton, who took an instant shine to Becky when they met to discuss a potential partnership between the hotel and the cab firm.
Becky is set to leave the Street on the day of Steve and Tracy's wedding, when the love triangle storyline comes to a head.
Her final scenes will be on screen on Friday, January 23.

Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has promised that her character Becky McDonald will leave the soap "with a bang".

Becky is to make her exit tomorrow (January 23) when she gatecrashes ex-husband Steve's (Simon Gregson) wedding to her Weatherfield nemesis Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).

Discussing the plot, Kelly teased that her Corrie alter ego will receive "redemption" after being falsely accused of causing Tracy's miscarriage, but said she would not receive "the ending everyone expects".

"I hope people will be cheering for Becky when they watch the episode," she told The Mirror. "Tracy has been awful to her and it's great that she gets to go out with a bang.

"I've had a fantastic time at Coronation Street and I'm chuffed at the reaction to Becky. It's been this lovely redemption story and I think that's what the viewers have enjoyed about it... I don't want to spoil it, but hopefully it's not the ending everyone expects."

Kelly added that she is still in denial about saying goodbye to Coronation Street after almost six years.

"I have seen those last two episodes and I did shed a tear," she said. "It still seems *surreal though. I don't know when it's actually going to hit me that I've gone."

Kelly previously described her Corrie exit as "fitting".

Coronation Street's Becky McDonald bids an emotional farewell to the cobbles in tonight's dramatic double bill of the soap.

Becky (Katherine Kelly) gets the last laugh in her war against Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) this evening - ruining the schemer's wedding day by exposing the twisted lies she told over her miscarriage.

However, despite winning her war against Tracy, Becky decides that there is no future for her in Weatherfield. After saying goodbye to those she cares about, the feisty blonde heads to the airport to start a new life with Danny Stratton (Jeremy Sheffield) and his young son.

Steve (Simon Gregson), meanwhile, is stunned to realise that Becky was telling the truth all along and rushes to the airport in a last-ditch attempt to win her back.

Fans know that Becky is about to make her exit - but will she go through with leaving for Barbados with Danny? Or is her love for Steve so strong that she'll decide to walk away alone and rebuild her life elsewhere?

"Coronation Street changed my life," she told The Mirror. "The time I was there, with the 50th anniversary and tram accident, has been so eventful.

"It's been fantastic because the writers have kept throwing me anything they could think of. It's what's kept me there five years."

Kelly is to make her last appearance as Becky in tomorrow's (January 23) episode and has teased that her alter ego will leave Weatherfield "with a bang", but not in a body bag.

Recalling her decision to quit, Kelly explained: "I said, 'I think I'm ready to go, but please don't kill me off!' I'd hate to see the end of Becky, I really would."

Kelly added that although she has enjoyed her time on Coronation Street, one thing she will not miss is Becky's blonde dye job.

"When I finished filming I went straight to the hairdressers," she revealed. "My hair was so thin at the ends through all those years of dyeing that my stylist felt it was better to cut it shorter.

"My own brother didn't recognise me. And my mum said, 'I've got my little girl back'.

Coronation Street actor Jeremy Sheffield has said that he is proud to have been part of Katherine Kelly's "amazing" exit storyline.

Kelly's character Becky McDonald bowed out of Weatherfield after almost six years on Monday (January 23), jetting off for a new life with her lover Danny Stratton - played by Sheffield.

She earlier crashed ex-husband Steve McDonald's (Simon Gregson) wedding to Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) and exposed her enemy's lies about her miscarriage.

Reflecting on the plot, Sheffield told The Sun: "I have loved playing Danny. The most special thing has been working with Katherine Kelly.

"She is an amazing actress and it's been nice to be part of a storyline that gave her character a happy ending."

Sheffield went on to confess that he was initially apprehensive about accepting a part in Corrie, but found the experience to be "100 times better" than he expected.

"I was really nervous as Corrie is so popular," he recalled. "I was worried I'd have to put on a Northern accent, but they assured me I wouldn't.

"From the word go, people made me feel welcome. I really enjoyed it. I'm sad to leave."

Kelly, meanwhile, has said that she is "delighted" with how Becky left the soap.

"She's had a rough old ride of it over the past few years - which as an actress, has been fantastic to play," Kelly noted. "But as a viewer, I would be upset for Becky, so I think it's nice that we've rounded things off."

Former Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has expressed her delight over the "amazing" success of her new stage project.

The actress, who recently bowed out from her role as Weatherfield's Becky McDonald, is currently portraying the lead part of Kate in a production of classic play She Stoops to Conquer at the National Theatre in London. Her performance has secured a warm response from critics in recent days.

Kelly told This Morning today: "The press night didn't happen until a week into the run for us, and the reviews have been amazing. It's lovely being in a hit! But the audience have loved it from the very beginning. They don't stop laughing.

"I had some friends in last night, and they couldn't believe that it was written in 1773. We haven't changed anything - it's the original script, we're in corsets and it's exactly of that period.

"But the director wanted it to be so accessible. He didn't want anybody to leave thinking, 'I didn't really understand that'. You understand the story straight away, so I think that makes it really present and really fun."

Kelly added that her departure from Coronation Street is still sinking in, as she was busy on stage when her final episodes were broadcast on ITV1.

She explained: "I didn't see them [go out]… It's all felt very surreal. The thing that's made it feel like it's actually true is things like Twitter and the messages I've had through."

The more successful she is going to be on stage, the less likely she is going to be back :( but I wish her well :)

Katherine Kelly has claimed that her new role in ITV's Mr Selfridge is not comparable with Becky McDonald in Coronation Street.

The 32-year-old actress said that her new socialite part "couldn't be more opposite" to the downtrodden character she portrayed in the ITV soap between 2006 and 2012.

Kelly told PA: "I love the fact that it's based on the real thing and the part for me couldn't be more opposite to Becky - she is absolutely the top of the social circle, Lady Mae.

"She is the one of all the women who hang around with Mr Selfridge, she is the only one in the pecking order that's three steps above him and that's just a thrill to play."

Kelly will appear opposite Entourage's Jeremy Piven, who plays Selfridges owner Harry in the biopic.

She added: "All I know is Andrew Davies is an amazing writer, I adore the scripts, I think that Jeremy Piven is outstanding.

"I always look at the script and the part and for me the script is excellent, it's based on a true story which I always like."

Katherine Kelly has insisted that she has no regrets over leaving Coronation Street.

The actress, who played Becky McDonald for six years, revealed that she would "love to go back" to the Weatherfield soap at some point.

Speaking on the British Soap Awards red carpet, she told PA: "I don't regret leaving at all. I haven't had a chance, I haven't had a moment to even think about it.

However, Kelly added: "The door is completely left wide open and I'd be happy to step through it at any point.

"I had a glorious time there and I'd love to go back but I was ready for a change."

Of her attendance at the star-studded ceremony, Kelly added: "Tonight is like a high school reunion for me, that's what I'm excited about. It's nice to come out en masse and celebrate."

The 32-year-old won 'Best Exit' for her departing episode in which Becky jetted off to Barbados with new boyfriend Danny.

Since leaving Corrie, Kelly has signed up for upcoming ITV drama Mr Selfridge.

The British Soap Awards will air tomorrow night (May 2) at 8pm on ITV1.

Katherine Kelly has revealed that her former Coronation Street co-stars have already been asking her to return.

The actress, whose character Becky McDonald only left Weatherfield in January, admitted that she does "miss" the show.

"When I left the show I made it clear that I wanted the door to remain open so I'd be able to return," she told The Mirror.

"They're always asking me to go back and I think that, one day, I will. I have so many happy memories from working on the Street and I do miss those on the show."

The 32-year-old has also today (May 31) been confirmed for a role on This Morning, following in the footsteps of EastEnders legend Pam St Clement.

From Monday, June 11, Kelly will front a four-part weekly segment in the programme entitled Kelly's Heroes, which sees the star tour the country to meet charity campaigners and other unsung heroes.

"I'm really excited about the This Morning project, although I had no idea just how difficult presenting actually is," Kelly said.

"I got to meet all these ordinary people doing extraordinary things - all oblivious to how inspirational they all are. It was very humbling."

According to a source, ITV is keen to establish Kelly as one of its "golden girls", claiming she has a "big future" with the broadcaster.

The insider added: "Kate was immensely popular with Coronation Street viewers, and ITV bosses thought she'd be a natural in front of the camera, if given her own format. The hope is that [Kelly's Heroes] will lead to other things."

Katherine Kelly is soon to star in ITV's high-budget drama series Mr Selfridge alongside Entourage's Jeremy Piven.

Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas has revealed that he would like Katherine Kelly to return.

The actor, who plays Jason Grimshaw in the ITV1 soap, said he would love her character Becky McDonald to make a cameo appearance on the Cobbles.

"I'd like to see Becky's return some time, I miss that character very much and I miss the person very much, Katherine, I think if she ever came back as a guest appearance it would make my day," Thomas told MSN.

He also told the website that he has a great relationship with co-star Sue Cleaver, who plays his on-screen mum Eileen.

"We're quite protective over each other and we look after each other. She brought me up in a way," he said. "It's been great to have such a great mum on and off screen."

Speaking of younger brother Adam, who stars in Emmerdale as Adam Barton, Thomas added: "I'm very proud of him. It's great that me and Adam are both working in soaps. To see him doing it as well is great.

"There's never any rivalry between any of the soaps. We're all doing the same job, we're all very close and get on quite well. I've got a lot of friends from different soaps."

Kelly quit Coronation Street last year to pursue other projects. Her final scenes aired in early 2012.

Former Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has revealed that she would never rule out returning to the soap.

The actress, who played troubled Becky McDonald, left the show last January.

Speaking to new! magazine, Kelly said: ''If I was going to be in a soap again, I imagine it would be Corrie.

"I've always said I'd never rule out a return. I had a great time there. I'd always consider it."

However, the one thing the actress doesn't miss about her most famous character is her dyed blonde hair.

"It was hard work being a blonde when you're as dark as me. Thankfully, I had a brilliant hairdresser otherwise my hair would have just dropped out," she added.

Kelly also revealed that she has no plans to move to the US to try and chase a career in Hollywood anytime soon.

"I lived in America as a child. I've got a Green Card, so I could go over if I wanted to, but things are going so well for me in the UK, I don't know why I'd want to. I think we make fantastic television."

Kelly recently played the part of Lady Mae Loxley in ITV's drama series Mr Selfridge.

Katherine Kelly has ruled out a Coronation Street cameo as Becky McDonald when Hayley Cropper bows out later this year.

Viewers have recently seen Hayley diagnosed with stage two pancreatic cancer. The character is expected to lose her battle with the disease later this year, as actress Julie Hesmondhalgh exits the soap after 15 years.

Despite Kelly's previous suggestion that she may return to the show if Becky's close friends Roy and Hayley were in trouble, the actress told The Sun's TV Magazine that a cameo is unlikely.

She said: "Unfortunately there's a really boring logistical problem. There's such a tight window between when Corrie film the episodes and when they broadcast them - and I'm shooting Mr Selfridge from now until November.

"So even though I've always said I'd love to pop back, I don't think that will be a possibility. Isn't that sad? It's a shame, because Becky would definitely have come back."

Kelly also revealed that her role as Lady Mae in Mr Selfridge has allowed people to accept her as someone other than fan-favourite Becky.

She said: "When I took two months off last Christmas and went on holiday to Australia the air hostesses were like: 'Aw, Becky.'

"But when I came back after Mr Selfridge had been on, people were all: 'Hi, Lady Mae.' I was like: 'Yes!'"

The circumstance of Kylie's death were kept secret until the episode aired, but the aftermath will now see David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) determined to get revenge on those he holds responsible for Kylie's demise.

Its always the case at funerals with soaps that key people do not turn up.
