Former EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy is to make another appearance as Sonia Fowler in the New Year, Digital Spy can confirm.

In early 2011, fans will see Sonia return to Albert Square for one episode as she finds herself drawn into a new storyline centring around her half-sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer).

Sonia's sudden reappearance in Walford comes after a huge confrontation between Carol, Whitney and Connor sees truths emerge over Connor's relationships with Bianca's mother and stepdaughter.

After events come to a head, Bianca mysteriously disappears from the Square - but Sonia's comeback sees her provide some answers to questions that Carol and Ricky have about the feisty mum's whereabouts.

A Walford insider revealed: "True to form, Bianca has got herself into big trouble while trying to protect her family and, scared about what might happen, she does a runner.

"When she suddenly goes missing, Sonia turns up unannounced and drops the bombshell that she knows where Bianca is and what she is going to do next."

Sonia's brief return will also see some other truths revealed as viewers discover what she and husband Martin have been getting up to away from Walford.

These are the first pictures showing Sonia Fowler back on Albert Square as Natalie Cassidy reprises her EastEnders role for a one-off episode.

As revealed last month, Sonia returns to Walford after a huge confrontation between Carol, Whitney and Connor leads to a mystery when Bianca disappears.

When Sonia turns up in the Square, she makes the surprise announcement that she knows where Bianca is and what she is going to do next. But what could be in store?

Fans last saw Sonia in February 2010 when she attended Ricky and Bianca's wedding.

Tiffany's behaviour disturbs Bianca

While sweeping outside the bookies, Carol receives a phone call from Connor but rejects it, unaware that he is watching her from across the street. Soon afterwards, Glenda arrives and - noticing Carol's anxious mood - she reassures her about her relationship with Connor, prompting Carol to admit that she's in love. Later, Carol and Connor finally admit their feelings for each other and make plans to run away together. Carol shares her plans with Glenda, but in doing so, she accidentally refers to Connor as 'Billie'.


Meanwhile, still struggling with her discovery about Carol and Connor, Tiffany has punched Bobby Beale and told people at school that her grandmother died violently. Bianca and Ricky are called in by Tiffany's head teacher to discuss the matter, and they're shocked and confused by her behaviour. When Ricky tells Carol what's been going on, she insists she knows no reason why Tiffany would act in this way, but she realises that she has to break up with Connor and breaks the news to him later in the evening. Later, a distraught Connor receives a visit from Whitney and kisses her passionately.

Unsettled by the day's events, Bianca searches Tiffany's room and is deeply disturbed by some of her drawings. She then tells Carol that she believes Tiffany is being abused...

Elsewhere, Tamwar has been left in charge of the refurbishment at the Argee Bhajee but is annoyed when Zainab interferes. He soon makes contact with Afia and arranges to meet her at The Vic, but his parents are planning an anniversary celebration at the pub and spot the pair when they arrive. Darren quickly covers for Tamwar by claiming that Afia is only at the pub to see him. Later, however, Tamwar promises Afia that he will stand up to his parents by telling them that he's continuing their relationship whether they like it or not.

Also today, Alfie visits R&R with Max, Jack, Roxy and Christian - trying to have some fun for the first time since his devastating loss.

Kat and Alfie are not getting along well. Annoyed with her husband, Kat embarrasses him in front of Roxy and Christian at The Vic. She reveals that Michael has been listed as the father on Tommy's birth certificate - despite the fact that Alfie had agreed to put his own name down. However, Kat soon starts to regret her behaviour and wants to apologise - but she changes her mind when she sees Alfie laughing with Roxy. Deciding that he must not care about Tommy's death, Kat storms out of the pub.


Meanwhile, it's the day of the Argee Bhajee's grand re-opening. In a fresh attempt to re-connect with his parents, Syed delivers a good luck card to the restaurant. Zainab is secretly touched by the gesture, but Masood rips the card up. As the opening night begins, Afia insists that Tamwar needs to come clean over their relationship or it's over. Just as Masood is about to make his big opening night speech, Afia and Tamwar both enter the restaurant. Will Tamwar tell them the truth or will he back out?

Elsewhere, Bianca is missing following the assault on Connor. Ricky fears that she must have been responsible and wonders what he should tell the police. However, while he's being quizzed by a policeman, the officer gets a call and hears that Carol has confessed to the attack. Although she's not telling the truth, Carol believes that she should take the blame as the situation is all her fault. Ricky and Max agree to go along with the lie and also tell the police that Bianca is in New Zealand with Pat. However, the police later arrive again, telling Ricky and Max that Connor has identified Bianca as his assailant.

Also today, Roxy tells Christian not to put off discussing the idea of a baby with Syed for any longer; Kat rejects Mo's request to move into The Vic, even after Mo promises to sub-let the Slaters' and give Kat a cut of the profits; Patrick and Kim set up camp outside the Argee Bhajee with a boot-full of alcohol to sell as the restaurant has no alcohol licence; and when Christian asks Syed about the idea of a family, he receives a frustrated response as Syed insists that it's not the right time.



Sonia returns to Albert Square

Still worried over the situation with Bianca, Ricky leaves her another message, begging her to come home as they can get her a good lawyer. Ricky, Jack, Max and Carol all wonder what they should do, but their family meeting is interrupted when there's a knock on the door. Their surprise visitor is Sonia, who informs them that Bianca has been staying with her at a B&B in London. However, she admits that Bianca is in a bad state. Ricky decides that they should get Bianca abroad and allow her to lie low, but he soon hears from Sonia that Bianca has decided that she wants to give herself up as it's the right thing to do. Accepting her decision, Ricky tells the kids that Bianca has to go to prison.


Sonia soon reveals that she has split up with Martin and that she now lives in London with Rebecca. The news surprises Carol, but Sonia explains that the split happened at the same time as Billie's death so she didn't want to trouble her with the news. Later, Carol accompanies Bianca to the police station as she prepares to hand herself in.

Meanwhile, Zainab wants to obtain a liquor licence for the Argee Bhajee and consults Masood over the idea. Masood agrees as it makes sense for the business, but he insists that the licence must not be in his name. Zainab also consults Denise about how to handle Tamwar following his recent behaviour. Denise advises that disapproving of his relationship with Afia will only make their feelings stronger.

Elsewhere, Tamwar pays a visit to Syed and asks if he can stay for a while. Confiding in his brother, Syed explains about how Christian wants them to have a baby. As he explains the situation, Syed finally comes to a decision...

Connor is a subsitute for Billie (I don't mean in regards to sleeping with him) but in other ways.. and I have notice Whitney is using Billie too to get Connor to be with her.. when he didn't want to go to the concert, she immediately said "oh Billie want to come with me".. honestly I wish it was all over.. Carol and Connor is annoying, I want you, I don't want you, play by the rules blah blah blah.. either be with him or not..

Here are three newly-released pictures offering a glimpse of the drama in store in tomorrow night's episode of EastEnders.

Tuesday's edition of the Walford soap sees the Connor/Carol/Whitney situation reach a climax as Carol makes a big confession to Bianca, before Max is forced to step in as the situation at home spirals out of control.

By the time Thursday's episode dawns, Connor has been attacked and Bianca is missing - but fans will have to wait and see just how the action gets to that point by tuning in tomorrow…
