Prince William has become engaged to his partner Kate Middleton.

Clarence House has confirmed that the couple will marry next year. They will live in North Wales following a ceremony expected to be in the spring or summer.

According to BBC News, the couple became engaged last month during a private holiday in Kenya.

William, who is is second in the line of succession to the throne behind his father Prince Charles, met Middleton when they were studying at the University of St Andrews in Fife in 2001. Their relationship is believed to have begun in December 2003.

The pair were reported to have split up in 2007, but were later seen at public engagements together.

Prime Minister David Cameron has said that he is "delighted" at news of the Royal engagement and that he wishes the couple "all the best".

On Twitter, Labour leader Ed Miliband added: "Delighted for Prince William and Kate Middleton on their engagement. The whole country will be wishing them every happiness."

Showbiz magazine Heat tells BBC Radio 5 live they're not that bothered about the engagement because they believe young people these days are more interested in Katie Waissel from the X Factor than Kate Middleton.

I'm not fussed about the Royal Wedding to be honest. It's a complete waste of tax payers money. £30 Million for Charles/Diana's weddings so goodness knows how much this fiasco will cost. And if they divorce will the have to pay the money back.

I am not fussed about it either.. is it just another big wedding.. I wonder if they will appear on 4 weddings on Living to see if they can win the honeymoon... Her theme is a princess wedding costing 100 million

Im not a big fan of Royal Weddings either and feel that in the tight financial times we are in that the Royal Family should pay towards the cost. That said however the amount of money generated by tourism and television rights will more than offset the cost.

Apart from that good luck to the two of them. They are a nice couple and I hope they are happier than Williams father was with his mother.

Kate Middleton will drop her nickname, and soon become Princess Catherine.

Well, not nearly as nice as the ring Prince William gave Kate upon his marriage proposal while vacationing last month in Africa. The ring once belonged to William’s mother, the late Princess Diana, and it’s an 18-carat, oval blue sapphire engulfed in diamonds.

“It’s my mother’s engagement ring. So I thought it was quite nice because obviously she’s not going to be around to share any of the fun and excitement of it all – this was my way of keeping her sort of close to it all,” William said.

Kate was sporting the ring with a matching blue dress when she and William sat down for their first on-camera interview since the proposal, and the two seemed to out-sparkle the diamonds.

William looked relaxed and charismatic as any prince should be, and Kate was sitting with the shoulders-back posture of a soon-to-be princess.

“We’re like ducks. So calm on the surface, but little feet going crazy underwater,” William said.

The two 28-year-olds had been dating since they met eight years ago at St. Andrews University, where they lived together with a couple friends. In 2007, the two famously broke up, but within months, were back together again.

“We went through a few stumbling blocks like any other relationship, but we picked ourselves up and carried on,” William said, later adding, “I’m obviously extremely funny and she loves that.” The two chuckled at this.

Kate will be the first commoner since the 1600s to marry a future British monarch. She came from a middle-class family – her father a pilot and her mother a flight attendant. Kate’s parents later started an online party supply company that’s now worth millions. Kate graduated from St. Andrews with a bachelor’s degree in art history, and has a keen interest in fashion, having done some modeling.

Even though the couple had been planning on getting married for at least a year, Kate said she wasn’t expecting William to ask the big question while in Kenya.

“It was a total shock when it came,” Kate said.

“I was really pleased when she said yes,” William said.

William is second in line to his father, Charles, for the British throne. If Kate and William do eventually decide to have children (William said he wants to take it one step at a time), the first child would move ahead of his younger brother Prince Harry to become third in line to the throne.

When asked if it was intimidating for Kate to be following in the footsteps of the “massively iconic” Princess Diana, William said, “There’s no pressure … No one is going to try to fill my mother’s shoes, what she did was fantastic. It’s about making your own future and your own destiny and Kate will do a very good job of that.”

The two are expecting to have their wedding sometime next year, and it promises to be as big as the sapphire wrapped around Kate’s finger.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will marry on April 29, it has been announced.

The couple confirmed their engagement last week.

They will wed at Westminster Abbey on the last Friday in April, Clarence House revealed.

Downing Street has also confirmed that the date will be a bank holiday.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are to marry at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, it has been announced.

The couple, who revealed their engagement to the world last week, were described as "over the moon" about their forthcoming wedding.

Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, the prince's private secretary, said: "They’re on cloud nine like any other newly engaged couple and they’re now getting stuck into organising their wedding.

"They are completely over the moon – I’ve never seen two happier people which is fabulous."

April 29 falls on a Friday and seems certain to be a bank holiday.

Mr Lowther-Pinkerton said: "The couple have chosen to be married at Westminster Abbey on the Feast of St Catherine on Friday 29th April.

"The couple were moved to choose the venue because of its staggering beauty, its 1,000 years of royal history and its relative intimacy despite its size.

“They are very much in charge giving us firm direction about the arrangements."

The Royal family and the Middletons will bear the cost of the wedding, the reception and the honeymoon, although any associated costs such as security, policing and cleaning streets will be picked up by the taxpayer

“The details of who pays for what haven’t been worked through yet but the Middleton family are very, very keen to contribute,” said Mr Lowther-Pinkerton.

He added that the Prince and Miss Middleton want their wedding to be “a classic British occasion” and “a classic example of what Britain does best”.

He said the couple and the Royal family want the wedding to be an enjoyable event for the whole country while at the same time being “mindful” of the current economic situation.

An April wedding sees Prince William marrying in the same month as his father, the Prince of Wales, whose second marriage to the Duchess of Cornwall took place in Windsor on April 9, 2005.

As the date was finalised, it also emerged that Miss Middleton is to play a central role as a working member of the Royal family after her wedding.

It is understood she is already considering a request from the charity Starlight, which grants wishes to seriously and terminally ill children to work as their patron or ambassador.

At the weekend Royal aides contradicted widespread reports that Miss Middleton, 28, would not be a working princess and that she instead intended to start a family early in her marriage to Prince William.

"Catherine has made it clear that she wants to get stuck into work for the Royal family and that she wants to support her future husband," said a senior royal aide.

Miss Middleton's new role is certain to lead to comparisons with the late Diana, Princess of Wales, who supported many charities.

Party Pieces, the Middleton's family business, already has links with Starlight and some friends of Miss Middleton expect her to accept a formal role with the charity next year.

In September last year, Miss Middleton and her family attended a charity auction at the Saatchi Gallery in London to raise money for Starlight.

Miss Middleton hosted a table at the £100-a-night black tie event and her parents donated a party for 20 youngsters as a prize for the auction.

In 2008, Miss Middleton was also involved with organising the Boodles Boxing Ball in London, which was attended by Prince William and Prince Harry, and raised more than £100,000 for Starlight.

The charity was founded by the actress Emma Samms, who starred in Dynasty, and its current ambassadors include the actresses Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller and the fashion designer Matthew Williamson.

Another charity that Miss Middleton may consider adopting is Place2Be, which provides counselling to schoolchildren in need.

In 2008, she helped to organise a roller-disco charity event in London for Place2Be, during which she was photographed wearing yellow hot pants lying on the floor after taking a tumble in her roller-skates.

Camilla Luddington has been cast as Kate Middleton in an upcoming television movie about the engaged royal couple, according to reports.

Deadline claims that the British actress will star alongside Nico Evers-Swindell, who plays Prince William, in the Lifetime movie William And Kate.

The network previously revealed that the made-for-TV movie will explore the couple's early years together at university in Scotland and "the ups and downs of their nine-year courtship complicated by social and royal family pressures, and intense global media attention surrounding their storybook nuptials".

Production is scheduled to begin soon and it is thought the movie will premiere on Lifetime around the time of the wedding, which takes place in London on April 29.

Luddington has previously appeared in television shows including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Days Of Our Lives.

Irish rugby captain Brian O'Driscoll and his actress wife Amy Huberman have been invited to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Writing on his blog, the former British and Irish Lions skipper said it was an honour to be asked but did not say whether he would attend.

A total of 1,900 guests have been invited to the ceremony at Westminster Abbey on 29 April.

O'Driscoll is acknowledged as one of the most talented players in the world.

He made his debut for Ireland in 1999 and has scored 42 tries for his country.

He has toured with the British and Irish Lions three times, captaining the side in New Zealand in 2005.

St James's Palace has not officially released the names of invitees to the wedding but more than half are family and friends.

Not all the guests at the service will go on to a Buckingham Palace reception.

O'Driscoll is expected to be one of a number of sports stars attending, with David Beckham and his wife Victoria reported to be among the invited guests.

The 32-year-old Leinster centre married Ms Huberman in a highly publicised wedding last year.

Given his popularity in his native country, some correspondents described the nuptials as Ireland's own version of a Royal wedding.

The official website for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton went online Wednesday, a hub of information on the upcoming nuptials including eagerly anticipated details of the bride's dress.

The website, www.officialroyalwedding2011.org, includes photos of the couple as well as features, including on Westminster Abbey, where the wedding will be held on April 29, and on Buckingham Palace, the venue for the reception.

"As well as regular updates on the wedding details ahead of the event, on the day itself the site will be the first place to view information such as the details of Miss Middleton's wedding dress," St James's Palace said.

Information about the bride's gown is being kept almost as a state secret as palace officials refuse to say who the designer is, what kind of style the dress will be or even whether Kate will wear a veil.

The website also hosts the royal wedding Twitter feed as well as the latest YouTube videos of William, 28, and Kate, 29, including their recent visit to the Scottish town of St Andrews, where they met while attending university.

Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, will design Kate Middleton's wedding dress, according to reports.

The 36-year-old designer replaced McQueen following his suicide and had worked alongside him for 14 years.

She has designed dresses for high-profile women before, including Michelle Obama and Sara Buys, who married the son of the Duchess of Cornwall, Tom Parker Bowles.

Despite this, the CEO of Alexander McQueen and Burton herself are both denying that they will be involved with the design of the dress.

However, in the past there has been much secrecy surrounding the designers of royal wedding dresses, with David and Elizabeth Emanuel hiring security and locking the gown in a safe when they created Princess Diana's dress.

George Michael has recorded a cover version for the Royal wedding for the second time in weeks to "make it even more romantic".

The singer has spent two days putting together a track as a special present for Prince William and Kate Middleton.

He asked fans on Twitter to submit possible songs he could cover as a gift to the Royal couple, and has now chosen one.

In a series of posts on his page, he wrote: "So excited that about (sic) the song/gift... Recorded the track all over again yesterday in a different key and a new vocals (sic), sounds even more romantic..."

The song was finished this week but Michael went back to the studio on Wednesday to record it again to make sure the end product was perfect.

He is determined to keep the track a secret until he unveils it later today - but he has given fans a number of clues.

Posting a series of clues for his fans, Michael wrote: "I think I've chosen a song for William and Kate.

"Suffice to say it's a beautiful song and it was never a single so chances are u don't know it. But I think it's a perfect fit. It was written in the seventies by a genius.

"Tell you what, I'll give u a clue that will really narrow it down to that handful of great love songs of the pop era. The first word of the title is 'You' (sic)."

Fans were quick to submit their guesses, and within an hour the 47-year-old revealed someone had correctly named the track - but still refused to publicly say what he will be recording.

He posted: "Oh my giddy aunt, somebody already got it!!!"

The singer, who found fame with Wham! in the 1980s before going on to solo success, also revealed he met Prince William as a child.

He wrote: "I'm so happy for William, I only ever met him twice, but he was such a nice kid.

"Actually he asked me to sing!!! He was only eight!

"It was a Xmas party at Kensington Palace, and believe it or not I'm too shy to sing to small numbers of people so I said no", tweeted Michael.

The song will be available to download for free on Cnn.com from Friday and Michael is urging fans to make an online donation on the Royal Wedding charity website instead of getting the couple a gift.

The official programme for Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding has been made available to download.

Included in the programme is the full Order of Service which will be followed by the 1,900 guests at the ceremony in Westminster Abbey tomorrow morning. The front and back of the booklet are adorned with William and Middleton's respective family Coat of Arms.

Among the details about the prayers, music and hymns which will be heard, it has been confirmed that the bride-to-be's brother James Middleton will read The Lesson.

A personal message from the couple on page two of the 28-page document reads: "We are both so delighted that you are able to join using celebrating what we hope will be one of the happiest days of our lives.

"The affection shown to us by so many people during our engagement has been incredibly moving, and has touched us both deeply."

They added: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone most sincerely for their kindness."

It also reveals that Middleton will vow to "love, comfort, honour and keep" Prince William, while omitting 'obey'.

The official programme is available to download from the royal wedding website and 150,000 copies, priced £2 ($3.33) each, will be on sale across London.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will marry at Westminster Abbey tomorrow morning.

Prince Harry reportedly delivered a comical best man speech at Friday's royal wedding reception - leaving guests "in stitches".

The News of the World reports that he wore a fez during the speech and teased Prince William about his bald patch. The Queen had gone home to Windsor Castle, meaning he could be more risqué with his remarks.

One guest said: "Harry's speech was so funny. He kept calling William a 'dude'. He had us all in stitches. Harry ended up saying that William was actually an all right bloke but not as good looking as he was - apart from his red hair.

"It was all in good humour and Prince William clapped as loudly as the rest of the guests when he finished."

The best man then turned serious to pay tribute to their mother Princess Diana and talk of his love for his new sister-in-law Kate Middleton.

"Harry said he loved having a 'sister' and that he cherished Kate as they have become so close. He also said how much his mum would have been proud of them both. It was a great speech and the fez just made it. It was so Harry. It was just the sort of down-to-earth larking about that the brothers are known for."

Prince Charles apparently told guests of the pride he felt for William and "couldn't stop grinning", before leaving around midnight with Camilla.

Harry went on to party "like a rock star", according to reports.

A French court has banned Closer magazine from any further publication or resale of topless pictures of Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, who is the wife of Britain's Prince William.

An injunction, granted by the court on Tuesday, also ordered the magazine to hand over all files of the pictures in its possession to representatives of the royal couple within 24 hours and said it would be fined 10,000 euros ($13,000) for every day's delay.

The ruling prevents Closer, which published the pictures on Friday, from re-using them in print or on its website, as well as from selling them to markets where they have not been published.

Lawyers for the royal couple are seeking damages from the weekly gossip magazine over its publication of the photos in a five-page spread. The scandal has incensed much of the British public and rekindled a debate on privacy laws.

The court in Nanterre, near Paris, said it investigated whether there were grounds for criminal charges against Closer, published by Italy's Mondadori, and the paparazzi who snapped pictures of the Duchess from a distance while she sunbathed topless with William at a villa in southern France.

The couple has also launched a civil suit against Closer over the photos, which show the Duchess, who was formerly known as Kate Middleton, slipping off her bikini top, relaxing on a sun lounger and at one point pulling down the back of her bikini bottoms.

Buckingham Palace has called the photo spread a "grotesque" invasion of the royal couple's privacy.

British newspapers, fighting for their reputation after a string of scandals, have agreed not to publish the images, as has the British edition of Closer which is managed separately, and instead are condemning the photographer.

The Sun tabloid screamed: "Find Le Rat" on its front page on Tuesday and said the photographer would be hunted down and face jail.

On Monday, the publisher of tabloid The Irish Daily Star suspended its editor after the newspaper broke ranks with Irish and British peers, publishing pages from Closer with the photographs in its Saturday edition.

If Kate didn't want picture's of her self taken topless she should have kept her bikini on.She's only her self to blame. She was in PRIVATE property over 1000 yards from a road. Im sure she felt safe from the gutter press and their sleazeball photographers there. She is like any young woman of her age perfectly entitled to bare her breasts in private without the fear of the paparazzi. If they named her Diana it would go down well with the public. My neice was just named after her grandmother who died when my sister in law was young. Its a very strange name though. Takes a lot of getting used to. Now the daily mail says that Kates baby looks like princess eugenie. I think not.

Its the sort of thing they say about public figures
esp Royalty. With papparazi everywhere would be
difficult even if dropped out of public life - as she
did for months quite some time before she died.
She gave well publicised interview about giving
up charity work. Also said she was pregnant when
she died- that was disproved.
I dont think people are influenced by silly
newspaper stories-it behaviours that are seen
that change opinions.

They said Princess Margaret had an illegimate child
before she married- that was adopted out to
Canada.
A couple of years ago he obtained a High Court
ruling to enable him to see her will which was sealed
. This doesn't mean story was true- just he had sufficient reason to think
it was- not the same thing!

Prince "co@k chain" ... well Victoria's Albert is synonymous with that device, although I've read its apocryphal.

But Albert is already one of the middle names of one of the other sprogs, so not only do they have a very shallow gene pool they have very limited imagination when it comes to kids names.

Seriously .. calling him Zog would of been the better option.
