Robert Sheehan will not be returning for the third series of Misfits.

The show's executive producer Petra Fried announced the news at the Kapow convention in London today.

Sheehan's character Nathan, who has appeared in the show since it began in 2009, will now be replaced by a new character called Rudy.

Casting for Rudy is still ongoing. Nathan's departure and Rudy's arrival are expected to be dealt with in a short film posted on the E4 website before the third series begins.

Sheehan can currently be seen in the movie Killing Bono and also worked on the film Season Of The Witch, which was released earlier this year.

The third series of Misfits is scheduled to air later this year on E4.

Joe Gilgun signs up for 'Misfits' role

Joe Gilgun has signed up to appear in the new series of Misfits.

Channel 4 announced that the actor has landed the role of Rudy in the show.

Rudy is a replacement for the much-loved character Nathan, played by Robert Sheehan. It emerged last month that Sheehan has decided to leave the programme.

Rudy will join the other characters - Kelly (Lauren Socha), Simon (Iwan Rheon), Curtis (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) and Alisha (Antonia Thomas) - for community service. However, he gets a "rude awakening" when he joins the group and is also struggling to keep his superpower a secret.

Gilgun recently appeared as Woody in the BAFTA-nominated show This Is England '86. He also previously starred as Eli Dingle in Emmerdale.

The new series of Misfits, which has been extended to eight episodes, is expected to air later this year on E4.

Ok Misfits fans, as you probably know, Misfits returns to E4 in October with some changes. Robert Sheehan is leaving and Joe Gilgun is joining the gang. And to say farewell to Nathan and hearty hello to Joe we've got an exclusive film coming right here to E4.com.

The film focusses on Nathan, who - armed with a new superpower - has got a plan to go out in style. His target? Las Vegas, baby!

With Marnie and little Nathan Jnr. still in the picture, Nathan is plotting to use his new superpower to scam the casinos. It's a sure-fire plan that can't fail. Except it will, of course.

Vegas Baby! will premiere right here on E4.com/misfits on Thursday 15 September.

Misfits has reportedly been renewed for a fourth series.

The E4 drama has been given the go-ahead to begin work on new episodes, according to Broadcast.

Misfits follows a group of young people in community service who are coping with the problems which come with having superpowers.

The third series - which saw Joe Gilgun join the show to replace departing cast member Robert Sheehan - will conclude on Sunday night.

Matthew McNulty, who first appeared in last year's Christmas special as Seth, has also become a recurring star in the show.

Iwan Rheon has become the second Misfits star to confirm that they will not be returning for the fourth series of the E4 drama.

Rheon, who plays Simon Bellamy, exits the show alongside Antonia Thomas (Alisha), who confirmed her departure earlier this week (December 19).

Rheon commented on his exit: "Thanks for all the comments and support. I'm so grateful for the opportunity that Misfits gave me and all the fun I had doing it. But I have left now and look forward to doing exciting new things. The show must go on! X"

Robert Sheehan departed the sci-fi show at the end of the second series, but ratings have remained strong following the addition of Joseph Gilgun to the central cast.

Misfits concluded on Sunday night with 860k viewers watching on E4. A fourth series has already been confirmed by the broadcaster.

Misfits will introduce three new regular characters in its fourth series.

Iwan Rheon (Simon) and Antonia Thomas (Alisha) both departed the E4 drama at the conclusion of its third run.

The fourth series - which was confirmed in December - will introduce new female lead Jess and two male characters, Finn and Alex, according to Bleeding Cool.

A casting call for Jess describes her as "smart" and a "person who'll question social norms and etiquette", comparing her to a "female version of [comedian] Larry David".

Finn is said to be quick-witted and fast-talking, with "a childlike, naively optimistic view of life", while second male Alex is "super good-looking" but "very standoffish".

Actors between 18 and 25 are currently being considered for the three roles.

Original Misfits star Robert Sheehan quit the show in April 2011 and was replaced by This Is England actor Joe Gilgun for the third series.

Misfits will return to E4 in late 2012.

Misfits star Joe Gilgun has insisted that the fourth series will be "disgusting and completely outrageous".

The actor - who plays Rudy on the E4 drama - told SFX that he is yet to see scripts for the new episodes.

"I'm properly looking forward to it this year and the storyline is always f**king hilarious," he said. "[Series creator] Howard [Overman] is just a fricking genius."

He added: "[I don't know] b*llocks. Literally, they don't trust me. I don't blame them neither. It's a case of wait and see, really.

"I'm sure it'll be disgusting and completely outrageous. And it'll have an effect on the people that watch it."

Misfits will introduce three new regular characters, following the departures of Iwan Rheon (Simon) and Antonia Thomas (Alisha).

"I don't know who's playing them," said Gilgun. "I've no doubt they'll be exceptional people.

"The casting people... do know what they're doing and they don't want to f**k up and let the the audience down because it's got a massive following."

Misfits was officially picked up for a fourth year in December.

The series will return to E4 in late 2012.

Lauren Socha will not appear in the fourth series of Misfits.

A Channel 4 spokesperson confirmed to Digital Spy that the 21-year-old actress will not reprise her role as Kelly in the E4 drama.

"A mutual decision was reached between Clerkenwell and Lauren earlier this year that she would not be returning for the fourth series," it was announced in a statement.

"Misfits has been in production for a number of weeks now and Lauren is not part of the lineup."

It was also confirmed that Socha's departure is not related to her recent conviction for racially-aggravated assault.

The spokesperson added: "No. Clerkenwell Films and Lauren Socha agreed some time ago that along with other cast members, including Iwan Rheon and Antonia Thomas, she would not be returning for the fourth series of Misfits, which is currently in production. Channel 4 supports both parties' decisions."

Misfits will return to E4 in late 2012.

Two new Misfits cast members have apparently been revealed.

Karla Crome (Hit and Miss) and Nathan McMullen (Shameless) have joined the E4 drama, ScreenTerrier claims.

The new series of Misfits will introduce three new regular characters following the departures of Lauren Socha (Kelly), Iwan Rheon (Simon) and Antonia Thomas (Alisha).

23-year-old Crome will play Jess, who is described as "smart and articulate" and willing to question social norms and etiquette. McMullen has been cast as Finn, said to be "funny", "enthusiastic" and "childlike".

The identity of the third new cast member - who will portray the "good-looking" but "standoffish" Alex - is yet to be revealed.

Misfits star Joseph Gilgun (Rudy) recently told Digital Spy that he is enjoying working with his new castmates.

"They really are lovely, lovely people," said Gilgun. "You can see they're a bit wide-eyed - I remember feeling like they feel. I know how it feels to be the newbie."

Misfits will return to E4 in late 2012.

Seth is also back in the new series (confirmed) though I don't know for how many episodes. Will be interesting to see him without the Kelly dynamic. Will miss Simon and Alisha as individually they were great characters but hey I still have Rudy who (and I know I don't speak for most here) I personally like far more than Nathan (series 1/2). Then again - I loved Joe Gilgun as Eli Dingle in Emmerdale too. Hope he is still "now you see me, now you see two of me" Would like Curtis to have a better power than turning into a girl. Actually can't think of what new powers would be best for the next season. Any ideas????? We've already had rewind time, go back in history, resurrect the dead, split into two, the Alisha touching power, invisibility, seeing what someone else is seeing, hearing what folks are thinking, rocket scientist, changing sex, immunity from others powers, immortality etc. What next?????

Misfits will return for a fifth series, it has been confirmed.

The E4 cult comedy-drama's renewal was officially announced at a press event this morning (March 19).

The fourth series of Misfits - which introduced a new regular cast - aired on E4 in late 2012.

Series star Matt Stokoe (Alex) told Digital Spy in December that a fifth run had been "planned" but that the show's cast were still waiting for an official confirmation.

"I think they'd like to do it," the actor said at the time. "It's all up in the air and we won't find out until quite late if it's going again. I think it's planned, but nothing's set in stone yet."

Misfits creator Howard Overman previously revealed that he is working a movie version that could potentially bring back old characters.

"If it happens, it will involve past and present characters," he revealed in November. "Whether or not you've completely seen the end of Simon (Iwan Rheon) and Alisha (Antonia Thomas) if our movie has its way, is another issue."

Overman is also working with BBC One on new fantasy drama Atlantis, which is being eyed as a replacement for the popular series Merlin.

Misfits has started filming its fifth and final series on E4.

Howard Overman's teen drama, about a group of young offenders who obtain supernatural powers, will air for the last time later this year. The fifth series will feature eight 60-minute episodes.
