Friday 19th

Paddy is still reluctant to tell Marlon the truth, so Rhona calls Marlon to arrange to meet him. Paddy is anxious when Marlon questions what Rhona could want to meet for. Later, Rhona realises she has missed her period and rushes out to buy a test. Marlon's annoyed at being stood up by his ex and refuses to let her mess him around anymore.

At the vets, Rhona tearfully explains to Paddy that things have just got a lot worse. He's stunned when she reveals she's pregnant and the baby must be Marlon's. Will Rhona tell Marlon? Will she keep the baby? And will Paddy stand by Rhona?

We dont actually know that Moira prostitutes herself. This is just a thought by Perdita based on the spoilers. She may of course be correct but I think its more likely that Moira does get the drugs for Holly and doesnt tell John. This is what he feels is a betrayal. Just my opinion

Declan takes a shine to Alicia and makes a move at his party but his family ruins his plans

Mon 29th

Declan celebrates his fresh start with a party at his bachelor pad, but is uneasy that Ella is being so elusive over transferring the house. Alicia arrives at the party looking stunning and Declan quickly makes a beeline for her. As they flirt, he moves in for a kiss but in mid-clinch, Declan hears a familiar voice and pauses to see Ella and his daughter Mia have arrived.

Shocked at their unexpected return, Declan questions what Ella's up to but she avoids his questions and continues to enjoy the party, while Mia enjoys winding up Alicia. Later, he's floored when Ella finally reveals they've got no plans to go back to Singapore - she's staying. Elle declares that whether he likes it or not, they work well together - he just needs to give them a chance.

Meanwhile, Roz turns up at the Bartons' while Moira is out. She assures John that she is totally clean and wants to help her mate. Holly is more lucid than before, prompting Roz to ask if she's back on methadone. Moira arrives back and asks Roz to leave, but it's clear Roz is suspicious about Holly's behaviour. Will she suss Moira?

Elsewhere, Justin phones Alicia with the news that he wants to have Jacob at Christmas; Nikhil wants to be more than just a friend for Maisie; and Katie shares a kiss with Henshall at Declan's party.

Tues 30th

Moira is determined to wean Holly off the heroin and gives her a ration for the day. However, when Roz calls round again, she's instantly aware Holly's on something and asks where she got it.

Moira asks her to leave, but Roz pleads with Adam to trust her and when he angrily confronts Holly, Moira is forced to admit the truth to her horrified son. Adam is disgusted, but Moira insists that she's doing it out of her love for Holly and begs Adam not to tell his father, leaving Adam torn.

Meanwhile, Declan begins flirting with Alicia at The Woolpack, determined to prove he isn't going to put his life on hold. When Declan and Alicia arrange to pick up where they left off last night, Ella plays it cool but it's clear she feels a prickle of jealousy.

Elsewhere, when Cain annoys Mia, she knees him in the privates and takes his car keys; Leyla discovers that Alicia has told her a lie; Maisie tells Nikhil that she was foolish to let him go and they share a kiss; and Hazel reluctantly agrees to rescue Bob from a dinner with Viv.

Wed 1st Dec

Holly's need for a fix is increasing and Moira can't bear to see her in pain. Giving Holly the last of the wrap, she's terrified when Adam and John come upstairs and Holly spills it over the carpet in the panic. They don't suspect anything, but John feels they've moved on a step and wants to take the bolt off Holly's door.

Agreeing to a compromise, they leave the room but Holly is in distress about the lost fix. Feeling like an addict herself, Moira goes off to buy more drugs. However, when the police pull her over for a routine pre-Christmas drink driving inspection, they sense her anxiety and when she's forced to turn out her pockets, she's arrested for possession.

Meanwhile, Ella invites Alicia to have breakfast following Alicia's night with Declan. However, it's too awkward and Alicia makes her excuses, telling Declan she had fun but his home life is too weird. Declan assures Ella that he's only just begun having fun and he doesn't intend to stop soon.

Elsewhere, Aaron is shocked when Paddy tells him that Rhona is pregnant but is happy to discover there is still a place for him at Smithy; Maisie tells Nikhil that she doesn't regret last night but they should take things one day at a time; Bob's thrown when Viv invites herself on his outing with the kids to see Santa; and Adam takes an instant shine to flirty and feisty Mia, despite his relationship with Scarlett.

Thurs 2nd 7-pm

John panics when he finds Holly agitated in her room. Deeply uneasy, Adam tells John that he thinks he knows why she's so fraught and so desperate for her mum.

At the police station, ashamed Moira is unable to face her family and calls Diane. She tells the truth, but the officers emphasise the seriousness of her crime - possession with intent to supply. Back at the house, Adam tells John it's not a lapse, its fresh withdrawal - he thinks Moira's gone to score for Holly.

Meanwhile, Declan makes sure Ella feels she's invading his space and is under the impression they'll soon get bored and leave. However, he's out at a meeting when his new furniture arrives and Ella and Mia look on in horror at the 1980s playboy look he's gone for. Ella mischievously sends it all back - well aware that Declan is going to hit the roof.

Elsewhere, Aaron feels guilty and resentful when Hazel has a dig at him for forgetting Jackson so quickly; Rhona is furious when Marlon tells Diane the whole truth about the baby; Viv is annoyed when Hazel turns up on the outing to the grotto; and Hazel is surprised when Gerry suggests Jackson live with him.

7-30-pm

Cut to the core by Moira's betrayal, John unleashes his rage on Adam. At the station, Moira is relieved to have been released with a caution and admits to Diane that she's been feeding Holly's habit to try and save her but she knows it can't go on. She begs Diane to be her alibi, but when she arrives home to her distraught family, she knows the game is up.

John angrily demands she hand over the drugs, but Moira is lost for words and tells him there are no drugs. When Diane backs her up, John turns on Diane for lying, but Moira steps in and admits the police took the drugs - she was arrested. As the family look on aghast, furious John walks out unable to cope any longer - he loves them all but he can't do this anymore.

Meanwhile, Marlon snaps that Rhona has no right to lecture him after what she's done and Rhona is aware that he's right. She softens and assures him that he can still be involved in the baby's life if he wants to be. Marlon tells Rhona that he's wanted children for years, but not like this. He's adamant that he wants nothing to do with the whole mess - she's made him look a fool and she's destroyed his friendship with Paddy.

Elsewhere, Declan is furious to discover that Ella has cancelled his furniture order; Jackson tells Gerry that he doesn't think moving in with him would work; and Viv is gutted when Bob rejects her offer of a drink at home.

Fri 3rd

John has spent the night in his Landrover and is refusing to talk to Moira. Holly is terrified as she heads back to withdrawal, but Moira can't help her and is at a loss as to what to do. When John arrives home full of anger, he calls Holly down and tells Moira he has a wrap - he wants to know what's so great about heroin.

John tells Holly to set it up for him and they'll share it, but she refuses. He asks which she loves more - her family or the heroin. Holly is honest as she tells him she loves them, but he's heartbroken to see how much she needs that wrap. He breaks down in tears as he tells her they'll take it together - will Holly agree?

Meanwhile, Mia takes her dad's car out and offers Adam a ride, while in the pub Ella can't resist firing barbed comments at Alicia. After Declan bemoans his wayward daughter, Ella tells Mia to be careful - if they want to stay, Declan's going to have to like having them around.

Elsewhere, Hazel warns Bob not to get caught up in Viv's emotional blackmail; Pearl is thrilled about Rhona's baby news; and Hazel finally manages to convince Jackson that he won't ever be a burden to her - but there's a sense he wishes the same could be said of Aaron.

After discovering that Moira was arrested for drug possession, John is furious and loses it in front of the family

John walks out on his family in tonight's Emmerdale double bill, unable to cope with the pressures of Holly's drug addiction for any longer.

As Holly's agitation increases due to her latest withdrawal symptoms, John cannot understand why she's in such a bad way - prompting Adam to tell him the truth about how Moira has been providing her with fresh supplies.

John hits the roof when he hears the disturbing news and when he confronts Moira upon her return home, things get worse as she reveals that she was arrested.

Struggling to see a way out of the mess that his family is in, John furiously announces that he can't take it any more and storms out. Can the Bartons ever recover from this fresh crisis?

Emmerdale airs tonight at 7pm and 7.30pm on ITV1.

Emmerdale star James Thornton has revealed that his screen family's ongoing drugs storyline is about to reach a significant turning point.

The actor's character John Barton has been left devastated by daughter Holly's heroin addiction in recent months, and things get worse in tonight's double bill when he discovers that wife Moira has been secretly providing her with fresh supplies.

However, speaking on Loose Women today, Thornton explained that the family will start pulling together to fix their problems after events come to a head in the next few episodes.

He commented: "As a group, the Barton family came into the show really happy and we were having a laugh - we were sort of like a sunshine family and people said, 'Oh, you're a bit like the Waltons!'

"It's great and we all get on really, really well. So now when we're playing these scenes where we're all screaming and shouting at each other, it can actually be difficult because we really like each other!"

Thornton said that he has enjoyed the challenge of filming "really tough" scenes, but added: "It's nice that this is now the climax to it and we'll see the family come back together again."

Sophie Powles, who plays Holly, recently admitted that her character has a "long road" ahead and may never fully return to her old self.
