It turns out that the officer has some shocking news about Gary, which leaves the couple reeling.

Meanwhile, Leanne is regretting the previous evening and can't even face going into work, leaving Nick covering for her. Will she be able to continue running the bar for him after what has happened?

monday 15th 8-30pm

Anna and Eddie are devastated as they discover that Gary has been seriously injured in an attack which left three of his colleagues dead.

Later, the stunned community rallies round them and a sombre toast is made in the pub.

Meanwhile, Leanne confesses to a stunned Carla that she slept with Nick - but not before telling Carla about Peter's new alcoholic friend 'Carl' who he seems to be spending an awful lot of time with. She is unaware that 'Carl' is in fact Carla…

Elsewhere, the pastor makes his feelings about Sophie and Sian's 'life choice' clear; Ciaran lets Michelle know what she means to him; and Jim celebrates his birthday in The Rovers by getting drunk and clashing with Owen.

Thursday 18th

The great and the good of Weatherfield gather to say a tearful farewell to one of their own at Jack's funeral.

As Tyrone makes a heartfelt and emotional speech about the man he came to look upon as a father, his words resonate with the congregation. Ashley and Claire wonder if they ought to give things another go, and Tyrone later surprises Molly with a suggestion.

Meanwhile, with the knowledge of Nick and Leanne's secret assignation now on her mind, Carla asks Peter round to discuss her drink driving charge - but he's shocked by what he finds when he arrives at the flat!

Elsewhere, Charlotte pays another visit to John; Anna struggles to cope as she visits Gary in hospital; Owen is not impressed that Jim spent the night at The Rovers; and Fiz finds Katy and Chesney in a state of undress.

Elsewhere, Leanne busies herself with her wedding plans, but Nick tells her that he can't stand seeing her with Peter. Can Leanne and Nick continue to work together and push their feelings aside?

Also, Owen is less than impressed when Katie and Chesney announce they are getting a place together. As he continues to treat her badly, Eileen decides to help herself to some of Owen's profits.

Alone in The Joinery, Nick demands that Leanne look him in the eye and tell him she doesn't want him. When she can't, he moves in for a kiss - will Leanne be able to resist?

Alison King has promised that Coronation Street fans can expect a number of surprises as her current love square storyline continues.

The actress's character Carla Connor is currently harbouring feelings for Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), while the bookmaker's fiancé Leanne Battersby is about to cheat on him with ex-husband Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).

In next week's episodes of the ITV1 soap, Leanne makes the mistake of confiding in Carla about her infidelity - which leaves the feisty businesswoman thinking that Peter is fair game for seduction.

Speaking to Soaplife, King explained: "Carla can't understand why Leanne would risk losing Peter for Nick. Leanne's confession is all the encouragement she needs.

"But she's smart. She realises the clever way is to get Leanne and Nick together, then be there to pick up the pieces for Peter."

However, on whether things will work out for Carla so easily, King added: "There are lots of twists and turns along the way and it won't necessarily turn out the way people think."

Jane Danson, who plays Leanne, recently noted that Carla holds "all the cards" in the storyline.
