Home and Away's series producer Cameron Welsh has admitted that he does not currently have any big disaster storylines in the pipeline.
Speaking to Inside Soap, the showrunner explained that the programme will continue concentrating on traditional storytelling in the months ahead rather than relying on high-profile stunts.
Asked if there are any catastrophes ahead for Summer Bay, Welsh replied: "Not at the moment - you have to be careful not to overdo them. They can become 'go to' options when you need a bit of drama.
"We've done so many, from mudslides to earthquakes, that it's a challenge to find new ways of doing them differently!"
Welsh revealed that his main aim this year has been to keep storylines "fresh, real and interesting, without becoming too melodramatic".
He added: "We decided to make Home and Away feel warmer and more aspirational. We wanted it to be family-oriented, so we looked at bringing in new people as well as a few old favourites. The television landscape is always changing, so we like to keep up."
Home and Away legend Ray Meagher (Alf Stewart) recently backed the change in tone, explaining that he does not want the show to focus on "all these bloody guns and all that stuff".
