Jack Duckworth will die alone on his 74th birthday.

The 'Coronation Street' veteran - who has been played by actor Bill Tarmey for more than 30 years - has been battling terminal cancer and will die at his home while sitting in the same chair his beloved wife Vera (Elizabeth Dawn) passed away in when she died in 2008.

Executive producer of the ITV1 soap Phil Collinson said: "I think Bill has just been astonishing. I think it's an amazing, beautiful, powerful story. It's the sort of story that you actually should tell.

"It's about a man facing up to death. That's something we all have to do. Jack is a hero to so many people."

The producer also confirmed Jack will be reunited with his much-loved late wife Vera shortly before he dies, although he insisted she will not appear as a ghost.

He told the Daily Star newspaper: "Vera doesn't come back as a ghost. She doesn't come floating in on a wire or anything like that. Her appearance is in context.

"It was amazing to see Liz back and it was perfect that one of the last images of Jack alive is the two of them together."

8th Nov 7-30

Jack's overwhelmed as he walks into the surprise birthday party Tyrone and Molly have arranged at The Rovers. As they hide their pain, Jack holds court, reminiscing about his years on the street and making a speech over his cake.

Later, Molly is taken aback when Jack sits her down and reveals he knows about the affair with Kevin and the DNA test.

Meanwhile, Nick is impressed as Leanne works flat out to ensure opening night goes ahead and when he hears she's going to miss her wedding dress fitting, he insists he'll drive her there. But how will Nick react when he sees his ex-wife dressed as the bride-to-be?

Elsewhere, the pastor arrives at the Websters' to talk to the girls about temptation and sin; the silent calls torment John at work; the factory girls speculate that Carla could be pregnant when she gives up the wine; Claire and Ashley continue to argue about France; and Cheryl isn't pleased to see Chris working at The Joinery.

8th Nov 8-30

As Molly insists the affair is over, Jack isn't judgemental and implores her, if she loves Tyrone, to leave Weatherfield with him and start afresh. Hopeful their marriage can be saved, Jack slips out unnoticed and heads home.

Alone in his armchair, Jack looks at a picture of Vera as he falls to sleep. When Tyrone and Molly arrive home, they check on Jack and realise that he is dead.

Meanwhile, Leanne's stunned to discover that Nick has left her at the bridal shop. Confused, she tracks him down at the bar and wants to know what he's playing at - she thought they were getting on great. But she's shocked when Nick reveals that's the problem - seeing her prepare to marry someone else was too much to bear.

Elsewhere, Charlotte tries to kiss John after he admits that he's at breaking point; Peter helps Carla to put a stop to all the pregnancy gossip; and Sophie and Sian are plunged into turmoil when the pastor tells them that homosexuality is a sin.

11th Nov

Tyrone is consumed with grief and asks Molly to tell Kevin the sad news about Jack. As she breaks the news of Jack's passing, Molly also reveals that Jack knew about their affair and the DNA test.

When Kevin asks if Jack told anyone, Molly slams his thoughtlessness and insists it's Tyrone they should be thinking of right now.

Meanwhile, Ty meets with well-wishers in The Rovers to toast Jack's life, and there's sadness as news of his death spreads through the street.

Elsewhere, Owen has finished the work on The Joinery, much to Steve's chagrin, but as Nick and Leanne prepare for opening night, they've got personal issues to resolve. Can they make their relationship work?

Also today, when Sophie and Sian seek reassurance from Emily about their relationship, they're surprised by her response.

12th Nov 7-30

Peter's at Leanne's side on opening night at her request, but as she sets about her work, he's left to talk to Carla. As she asks him how he resists alcohol, Peter explains that in the past he hasn't, but he'll never go there again now he's got Leanne.

Carla is left stung by Peter's words as she has growing feelings for him, and secretly downs a few drinks before leaving alone. The night's a massive success, but Leanne is soon unable to find Peter, who's gone to collect Carla from the police station after she was arrested for drink driving.

Meanwhile, Sally cooks a meal for Molly and Tyrone, but Tyrone insists that she and Kevin join them to eat it. But it's another awkward reminder for Molly of her affair with Kevin. Desperate to move on, she urges Kevin to forget anything ever happened between them.

Elsewhere, events at the Stape household take a new twist when Fiz opens a handwritten letter; Cheryl is intimidated by Chris's presence at the bar; and Nick flirts with Maria, much to Leanne's annoyance.

12th Nov 8-30

At the bar, Nick and Leanne are high on the success of the night and when Nick kisses Leanne, she responds passionately.

They tear at their clothes, giving into desire, but when Rosie heads back to the bar having left her phone, will they be caught in the act?

Meanwhile, Peter is stunned when Carla confesses that she's fallen for him. Peter assures her that she's beautiful and intelligent and in another life they might have a future. His words leave Carla buoyed and she goes to kiss him. Peter's tempted - will he betray Leanne?

Elsewhere, Molly confides in Pam about recent events; Michelle and Ciaran grow closer as a couple; and we finally learn who John's tormentor is...
