Hollyoaks will be rocked by an unusual murder storyline this Christmas, its producer has revealed.
The teen soap's boss Paul Marquess said the plotline will spark a "massive" storyline for the new year.
He told Inside Soap: "We've got the coolest murder happening around Christmas."
He went on: "That kicks off a massive storyline for next year, and involves lots of characters. It's told in a way that we haven't done a murder before - I'm excited by it."
Before the Yuletide killing, a devastating fire will spread through Il Gnosh restaurant and do away with some characters in November.
The storyline kicks off on Bonfire Night, when viewers see "bad things" happening in Hollyoaks, Paul said.
"Then we go back in time for the first four episodes of the week, and four different stories will play out, leaving the audience wondering who will live and who'll die.
"It's structurally very different, and I just don't think that the other soaps would dare to do a plot like this," he said.
"I really hope that it's going to make people cry an awful lot."
