Janine discovers the truth about Lily

When he finds an earring, Max phones Vanessa to let her know that she has left it behind and arranges for her to come round and pick it up. When someone does come round, Max is expecting Vanessa, but is shocked when he opens the door to see Lauren, who has returned from America. Vanessa pulls up outside and Max tries to explain to Lauren that she is just a friend, but Lauren suggests that leaving an earring behind is one of the oldest ploys a woman uses to guarantee a return visit. Another car then pulls up and it's Tanya. She and Vanessa eye each other up before frostily introducing themselves and exchanging catty remarks.
Inside, Vanessa tries to make a quick getaway, while Tanya reveals to Max that Lauren was expelled from school for drug use. Max and Tanya eventually agree that Lauren should stay with Max for a while. Max tries to stop Vanessa from leaving, telling her that he needs to see her again soon, at which point Stacey arrives, saying that she had left her phone there the night before. Both Tanya and Vanessa assume the worst and Vanessa leaves before Stacey can convince her that nothing happened. Later, Lauren secretly talks to her American boyfriend, Edward, over the internet. She is clearly smitten by him and encourages him to come to England.
Meanwhile, it's chaos in the Slaters' kitchen but there's also a lot of laughter. Stacey is particularly pleased about Kat and Alfie's return, but her good mood soon disappears when she sees Janine and Ryan returning home from their honeymoon. Stacey later confides in Max about Ryan, telling him that he is Lily's father but doesn't want anything to do with her. She heads back to the stall, and sees Ryan, who completely blanks her. Max witnesses this and can see that Stacey is upset. Soon afterwards, Max strides up to Ryan and grabs his arm, urging him to accept his responsibilities. Janine looks confused until Max reveals that Ryan is Lily's dad. Janine's confusion soon turns to anger as Ryan's world starts to collapse...
Elsewhere, Leon wins two tickets to a music festival in France and hopes to take Zsa Zsa with him; Ricky and Pat try to give Ryan and Janine a warm welcome home by decorating their flat with love hearts; and when a piece of Grace's valuable crockery is broken by Mercy, Fatboy tries to raise funds to replace the plate by dressing Jim up to look like a war veteran and collecting donations.
Janine makes a shocking accusation

Upon hearing the news that Stacey's baby is Ryan's, Janine is stunned. She is instantly cold towards him, stating that he should have told her when he originally found out. Ryan insists that the baby means nothing to him and he loves only her. It looks as though he may be getting through to Janine and he goes to kiss her, but Janine responds by smashing her knee in his groin. She tells Ryan that she wants a divorce and leaves with his suitcase. Janine ends up dragging Ryan's case across up to Stacey's stall and starts slinging his clothes around. Seeing this, Stacey strides over, but Janine is full of rage and before long she tells everyone about Ryan before launching herself at Stacey. When an angry Kat becomes involved in the row, Janine realises she is up against both Kat and Stacey and leaves.
Back at her flat, Pat consoles Janine, but Kat soon arrives and warns Janine to stay away from Stacey. Pat later convinces Janine to stop moping and fight for Ryan. Wanting to salvage her relationship, Janine calls Ryan but gets his voicemail. She goes to search for him, but she sees Ryan leave the Slaters', where he has been arguing with Stacey and urging her to tell Lily that he is dead. Misreading the situation, Janine is devastated. She takes off her wedding ring and hurls it against the wall. After a further argument with Stacey on the Square, Ryan returns to the flat and bangs on the door, shouting that he loves Janine, but she ignores him. Inside, she makes a phone call, claiming that Stacey Branning neglects her baby…
Meanwhile, at Max's house, Max catches Lauren trying to hide something. As her purse contents spill out, she insists that she was only trying to send a text to a mate, and Max feels bad. He worries about Lauren's wellbeing, and tells her that he wants to try to show her mum that he can handle caring for her, so they make a deal. Later, Abi is excited to see Lauren and grills her on America, but Lauren doesn't reveal anything about Edward, her American boyfriend. Later, Lauren is on the internet and is gutted when Edward breaks up with her.
Elsewhere, Leon drops down on one knee and asks Zsa Zsa to accompany him to the music festival, to her delight - but Fatboy asks Mercy whether he should tell Zsa Zsa that Leon has recently slept with someone else.

The social services show up at the Slaters' home, and the family scrambles to clean up the house. Stacey is livid when she learns that someone has accused her of abusing Lily. After examining the baby, social worker Maria realises that it was a false claim. Stacey immediately knows that it was Janine and heads over to her house. Stacey attacks Janine, pulling her hair and pushing her to the ground, but Janine doesn't fight back and Pat eventually pulls Stacey off.
After being attacked by Stacey, Janine decides to go to the police to report that she was an innocent victim in the assault and has lots of witnesses. She thinks Stacey deserves to lose Lily. Hearing these nasty threats, Pat decides to lock Janine in the room and rushes to find Ryan. However, Janine manages to get out of the room and heads to the police station. Ryan manages to find Janine just as she is about to go inside. He tells Janine that if she goes through with her plan, she cannot come back from it. What will Janine do?
Meanwhile, Zsa Zsa has now been informed of Leon's recent antics and tells Mercy that he has until lunchtime to confess all, but he appears determined not to reveal anything. Fatboy soon realises that Mercy has told Zsa Zsa about Leon's secret. Meanwhile, a frustrated Zsa Zsa lures Leon into the van by pretending to want to have sex with him. Once inside, she twists his groin and tells him that she will not go to France with a liar and knows he slept with Glenda. She heads out of Albert Square alone. Upon recovering, Leon still decides to go to France.
Elsewhere, Abi is embarrassed when she learns from Max that Darren knows she likes him; Shirley and Kat get into an argument but end up introducing themselves properly when they realise they are so similar; Lauren and Max try to help Abi by informing Darren that Abi does not like him; and as he continues to worry about Lauren, Max calls Tanya for help.
Max and Vanessa share a passionate kiss

Tanya and her new boyfriend Greg arrive in the Square. Tanya suggests that Greg should go to the café while she speaks to Lauren. At Max's house, Tanya asks Lauren if she is taking any drugs, and Lauren assures her that is the least of her problems.
After the conversation turns to boys and the importance of safe sex, Tanya realises that Lauren is heartbroken when she wells up talking about the American guy. Lauren also tells Tanya that Max has been moping around after breaking up with Vanessa. Tanya meddles in Max's affairs and starts to ask questions about Vanessa.
Meanwhile, it's the day of Vanessa's birthday and Jodie tells Darren that she must buy a birthday gift for her from Harry, because he is too busy to do so himself. Jodie tries to convince Darren that Max probably doesn't realise that it's Vanessa's birthday, but Darren notices a specially made card from Max when he opens a drawer.
At Vanessa's birthday lunch, Tanya arrives to speak to her. Jodie soon realises that Vanessa is having a horrible time with Harry and can see that her parents are not in love. She wants her mum to be happy and encourages her to be with Max if that makes her feel better. Vanessa and Max see each other, and Max gives Vanessa her birthday present. She is overjoyed and they share a passionate kiss.
