Shoba Gulati has admitted that she was shocked when she heard about her latest storyline.

Gulati returned to the ITV soap as Sunita Alahan last year and has since reunited with her estranged husband Dev (Jimmi Harkishin). The current plot sees their son Aadi end up in hospital after suffering a mysterious head injury and it is not long before the finger of suspicion is pointed at the couple.

"Yeah, it was a bit of a shock, actually, to do a story like that," she told RTÉ TEN. "The story is that social services think that we have abused our child so you have to wait and see what happens."

Gulati praised her on-screen son and confessed that she found it emotional to film the scenes.

"The kid that we have on the show, he is absolutely amazing," she said. "I mean you just die when you see him, and he'll pull on everybody's heartstrings."

She added: "Obviously, because you're working with small children, they kind of believe you."

The plot will reportedly also serve as an exit storyline for Ashely and Claire Peacock (Steven Arnold and Julia Howarth).

CORRIE’S Dev Alahan will face criminal charges for child abuse.

Social Services will be called in when his son Aadi is admitted to hospital with a fractured skull.

Doctors who treat the poor lad become convinced he’s been abused at the hands of his father, played by Jimmi Harkishin, 45.

Dev and partner Sunita keep a bedside vigil and have no clue what’s going on until the authorities arrive at the hospital.

They are hauled off for questioning as medics try to stop the lad’s brain from bleeding. Shobna Gulati, 44, who plays Sunita in the ITV soap, says she was shocked when she heard about the storyline and confessed that she found it emotional to film.

She said: “It was a real shock when we found out.

“The kid that we have on the show, he is absolutely amazing. He’ll pull on everybody’s heartstrings.”

But while the couple risk losing all their children, it’s their neighbour Clare Peacock (Julia Howarth, 31,) who is left sweating.

She was child-minding for Dev when the lad broke his skull.

What she fails to tell his parents is that she popped out and left him with lesbian schoolgirls Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent, 19) and Sian Powers (Sacha Parkinson, 18).

An insider said: “They face a nervous few weeks while they are quizzed.”
