View Full Version : Eurovision Song Contest 2011
CORRIE star Margi Clarke is making a bid for Eurovision glory with a high-energy dance track.
Margi, 56, who has played fiery Jackie Dobbs on and off for 12 years, has lent her vocals to a Bjork-style record.
In the Nineties, Margi released a version of Edith Piaf's No Regrets with fellow Scousers Half Man Half Biscuit.
She may have some tough competition this time around, though.
Big Brother transsexual Nadia Almada is launching her own bid to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in Germany next year.
The Portuguese-born champ is the centre of an internet campaign to get her song released.

No way we're the laughing stock of Europe as it is when it comes to Eurovision. If these two are the best we can come up with we won't even get into the qualifying rounds.

No, you are second to Ireland as laughing stock.. we entered a bloody Turkey one year
I heard on the radio that Bono from U2 is backing it? Anyone know anything about this? Does Margi Clarke know him or something?
Actually, I think the tracks really good!

Blue to represent UK at Eurovision
Blue have been revealed as the act representing the UK at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Dusseldorf.
The reunited boyband were confirmed to have been chosen by the BBC in a statement made on the corporation's official Eurovision Twitter page. They will perform a new self-penned song entitled 'I Can', with the track's promotion and recording also being filmed as part of a BBC documentary to be screened in April.
BBC Head of Entertainment and Events Katie Taylor commented: "We're enormously pleased to have found an act that not only meets but exceeds all the criteria for a great entry. Blue are the perfect choice and we're so proud to have them representing us at this year's Eurovision Song Contest."
Band member Duncan James also revealed his excitement on Twitter, saying: "Yes the rumour r true!! We r representing the uk in this yrs EUROVISION! We r really excited and cant wait till u hear the song!! ITS BIG!!! (sic)."
The group have previous links to the contest, as Antony Costa came second in the 2006 edition of Eurovision song selection show Making Your Mind Up with 'It's a Beautiful Thing'. Duncan James was also part of the judging panel on the show's successor Eurovision: Your Country Needs You in 2009.
Blue originally formed in 2001 and had a string of top ten hits in the UK, including 'All Rise', 'One Love' and 'Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word', a duet with Elton John, before splitting in 2005.
The final of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest will take place on May 14.

JEDWARD are facing Eurovision heartbreak - after Brits were BANNED from voting for them.
The X Factor twins - Ireland's entry in the semi-finals - hoped young British fans would ring in and help vote them into the final.
But Eurovision bosses have revealed UK viewers will vote in the other semi instead - a blow for Jedward, who shot to fame here.
An insider said: "The boys were banking on a high score from Britain, but now they will have to rely on support from other countries.
"What they will make of them is hard to say - after all they are not great singers or dancers."
Jedward - John and Edward Grimes, 19 - will face acts from 18 other countries.
Fans can't vote for their home entry so no one in Ireland can back them.
Britain gets a bye into the final because it is one of five countries that gives most cash to organise the contest.
The "big five" get to vote in one semi-final, which is decided on by Eurovision chiefs.
Votes are collated from a split of phone votes - which Jedward would expect many of from here - and jury votes.
The source added: "This could be the end of their Eurovision dream."
Jedward's semi takes place on May 12 in Dusseldorf, Germany.
The final is also there on May 14.
Britain's entry is boyband Blue singing I Can.

I don't think Jedward have anything to worry about. Given the UK's Eurovision relashonship with the rest of Europe I can guess that other countries will give Jedward full marks just to be spitefull and on the Eurovision night they will end up with a whole lot more points than Blue. Gauranteed.
Blue have promised to do a naked photoshoot if they win Eurovision next weekend.
The group will represent the UK at the competition with their track 'I Can'. Speaking to the Daily Star, they promised to strip off if they triumph in Germany.
"We'll pose naked for you guys if we win," Antony Costa quipped. "And everyone will be invited to our celebration party.
"We haven't had time for boozing lately with the constant promotion around Europe. But if we win, we'll definitely be putting that right."
Costa insisted that the foursome, who recently posed for Attitude magazine, are all in good shape.
"Don't worry, we've been working out," he said. "And if you've got it, flaunt it!"
The group recently hit out at the lack of radio support they have received for their single in the UK.
DS
:D
That would be enough for people NOT to vote for them
Nine countries have been ruled out of the Eurovision song contest after a semi-final that saw regular participant Turkey eliminated from the competition.
Norway, Albania, Armenia and Croatia are among other countries that will not progress to the next stage.
Serbia, Greece and Azerbaijan are among the 10 countries whose songs will go on to feature in Saturday's main event.
Twins Jedward will represent Ireland at the second semi-final, to be held on Thursday in Dusseldorf, Germany.
There John and Edward Grimes will share the stage with another set of identical siblings - Slovakian duo Daniela and Veronika, aka TWiiNS.
Turkey's exit marks the first time the country has failed to reach the final stage since semi-finals were introduced in 2004.
Turkey, represented by Yuksek Sadakat this year, first participated in Eurovision in 1975 and won the competition in 2003.
Its elimination follows a creditable second place at last year's event, won by German entrant Lena Meyer-Landrut.
The 20 successful semi-finalists will be joined by the so-called "big five" countries - Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the UK - who qualify automatically.
Britain will be represented this year by newly reformed former chart-toppers Blue, whose song - I Can - will be the 14th song performed on Saturday.
BBC News
Jedward have qualified for the finals of Eurovision 2011.
The duo, who shot to fame on the 2009 series of The X Factor, will now represent Ireland in the full competition later this week alongside British finalists Blue.
They were one of ten acts to qualify following tonight's second semi-final, which saw them perform their entry 'Lipstick'. They will now compete at the May 14 event in Dusseldorf.
Along with Jedward, Estonia's Getter Jaani, Bosnia & Herzegovina's Dino Merlin, Austria's Nadine Beller and Ukraine's Mike Newton will compete for the European title.
Also successful in tonight's contest were Moldova's Zdob și Zdub, Swedish competitor Eric Saade, Slovenia performer Maja Keuc, Romania's Hotel FM and Denmark's A Friend In London.
However, in a shock result, the 1998 winner Dana International failed to reach the final of this year's competition for Israel.
The first semi-final saw Russia, Georgia, Switzerland, Finland, Serbia, Hungary, Iceland, Lithuania, Azerbaijan and Greece book their place in the next stage.
The United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France and Spain automatically qualify for the final.
The Eurovision Song Contest airs live from 8pm this Saturday on BBC One.

The girl on the unicycle also was wearing feathery wings LOL...........
And the dancers in the back ground all had the same moves and hand moves,, drove me up the wall,, since every thing to me is visual, I shut off the subtitles so I could prove to myself I was right,, LOL
At least, UK got more points than they usually do last night :)
