Coming up in Emmerdale, Jackson delivers some surprise news to Aaron - explaining that Paddy has agreed to let him and mum Hazel (played by Pauline Quirke) stay at Smithy for a while.

Aaron appears less than impressed by the news, and soon quizzes Paddy about why he made the offer.

As Hazel gets to know Aaron, it's not long before she's experienced his moody ways and she starts to wonder what her son sees in the mechanic.

Could the situation cause problems for Aaron and Jackson?

Ryan despairs as his solicitor briefs him on what to expect from today's hearing. Meanwhile, Cain is in turmoil as he decides to go and support Ryan in court.

At Home Farm, Natasha coldly warns Nathan to stay away from court, but ignoring her, he arrives just as Ryan pleads not guilty. Cain turns to see Nathan smirking as Ryan is refused bail. Distraught, Faye reels at what is happening and angrily confronts a smug Nathan. Will Nathan get his comeuppance?

Meanwhile, Aaron mentions his concern about Holly to Adam, who takes it upon himself to search her handbag while she's asleep. She wakes up and catches him, but as Adam confronts her, she's furious at his lack of trust and firmly denies that she is back on drugs.

Elsewhere, Andy is left deflated when Adele makes her excuses not to see him that night following a dispute; David tries to support Leyla, but she vows to deal with her mother's death in her own way; and Marlon ponders taking Rhona away for the weekend.


Work brings Paddy and Rhona closer

Marlon is fuming when his romantic afternoon with Rhona is interrupted by Paddy, who needs her help on an emergency callout. In reality, Paddy needs her to save him from an over-amorous client by pretending she's his girlfriend.

Rhona rumbles Paddy for making her come along for protection and they head back to Smithy with some wine. Later, Rhona tipsily plants a platonic kiss on Paddy's lips as she leaves, but is perturbed to find she has feelings for him. Will Rhona be able to bury her feelings about Paddy?

Meanwhile, Leyla finally lets David in and admits she feels guilty that she was angry at her mother for not recognising her when she fell ill. Later, David pushes to know about her sister, but Leyla clams up and insists they are two very different people. He's left worried that Leyla is hiding something.

Elsewhere, Charity urges Cain to keep quiet and not help Ryan; Hannah enjoys spending time with Isaac but is disappointed when she thinks he fancies Victoria; and Cain's guilt rises as Faye tells him she has some doubts about her son.


Leyla's sister makes a surprise visit

Leyla is stunned when her sister Alicia turns up to warn her that she should stay away from their mother's funeral.

After Alicia leaves, Leyla is shaken and snaps at David when he tries to help. He tries to convince her to attend the funeral despite her sister's wishes - but will Leyla listen to David or Alicia?

Meanwhile, Pearl is annoyed that Rhona and Paddy are hungover and drops them in it with Marlon. He is visibly hurt as Rhona squirms, realising she should have called him. However, she's relieved when he later forgives her and insists they spend tonight together instead.

Elsewhere, Ryan is comforted by a prison guard named Abi and is later depressed to learn that Will and Maisie think he killed Mark; Andy is suspicious when Adele has to babysit again but refuses a lift there; Terry and Brenda lightly discuss new business ventures; and Ryan's shocked when Faye asks if there's any truth in the allegations he's facing.

Leyla attends her mother's funeral

Leyla tells a confused David that she's going to the funeral alone. At the crematorium, Alicia is fuming when Leyla comes to sit with her at the front. She rejects any comfort from Leyla and asserts that now their mother is gone, she wants nothing more to do with her.

Alicia coolly tells Leyla to do what she wants with the ashes, before leaving Leyla alone and distraught.

Meanwhile, Rhona decides to hire bikes for her and Marlon for the day and saucily insists they cycle to a secluded spot. However, she gets a puncture followed by a callout and has to leave Marlon with her bike and a puncture kit. When he finally arrives back, he is furious at the day he's had, much to Paddy and Rhona's amusement.

Elsewhere, Katie worries about Andy's intense mood when he misses meeting Adele for lunch; Paddy offers Jackson a roof after hearing he's been evicted from his flat; and Faye tries to convince Maisie to visit Ryan, but her efforts soon result in an ugly spat.

Aaron's surprised by Jackson's news

Aaron is bemused when Jackson explains that Paddy said it'd be okay for him and mum Hazel to stay at Smithy for a while.

As Aaron questions Paddy over why he's agreed to let them stay, Paddy's confused by his reluctance.

Meanwhile, Leyla arrives home after the funeral but it's clear that something is playing on her mind. She closes the shop, and finds herself outside her mother's house watching Alicia and her husband Justin say goodbye to the last of the mourners. As Justin catches her eye, he quickly heads over and tells her to leave.

Elsewhere, Andy is put out when Adele invites Gennie out with them and lets his possessiveness get the better of him; Rhona tags along to Paddy and Marlon's games night; and Terry and Rodney reminisce over a spot of fishing.

Meanwhile, Leyla Harding's fiery sister Alicia makes her debut in Emmerdale next week following the death of the pair's mother.

As Alicia warns Leyla that she's not welcome at their mum's funeral, it's clear that there's bad blood between the siblings - but the cause of it remains a mystery.

When Leyla ignores her sister's wishes and attends the service anyway, Alicia is even more annoyed and makes it clear that she shouldn't have come.

With Alicia becoming a permanent fixture in the soap over the coming months, it looks like the arguments between the duo are only just beginning…


Alicia's first scenes air on Wednesday, August 11 at 7.00pm on ITV1.

PAULINE QUIRKE ruffles a few feathers this week.

The Birds Of A Feather actress, 50, plays Hazel, the mum of Jackson Walsh (Marc Silcock, 21).

And she wastes no time putting her foot in it when she challenges her son’s boyfriend Aaron Livesy (Danny Miller, 19) about his feelings for her son.

She puts him on the spot as soon as she meets him.

Pauline said: “She’s got a big personality, so it’ll take some getting used to for Aaron. She’s bubbly and really friendly.”

LEYLA HARDING is told to stay away from their mother’s funeral by her fiery sister Alicia, who rocks the village on her debut.



Leyla turns up anyway and the sisters have a furious row.



An insider revealed: “The viewers know Leyla is not all she seems – she’s got a past and thinks she’s put it all behind her. But Alicia is a reminder of where the pair grew up.


They were brought up on a council estate and Alicia thinks her groomed and polite sister is passing herself off as someone she’s not.”



The mystery about their feud deepens when Alicia’s husband Justin turns up to visit Leyla.



Our insider went on: “Leyla is taken aback after Justin says he just wanted to check that she was okay.



“And when boyfriend David walks into the shop she lies and tells him Justin is a sales rep.



“Alicia and Justin’s marriage is pretty strained at this point and it is obvious that all is not well.”
